in all honesty, one of the most beautiful things in mass effect to me will be the ssv normandy’s development.

in one, shepard warns the council that sovereign is the real threat and that the reapers are coming. when joker tells the commander the council is preparing to send a fleet against saren she says:

“i want the normandy at the head of that fleet.”

only to be once again undermined and taken for a fool because of the visions they have. which would physically destroy a lesser mind, is something the council fails to comprehend. has to take it upon themselves to steal their own ship; not only that, but ask it of the crew to it as well. all because they were practically lured into impound because of udina; the very embodiment of hotheadedness (which is what the council thinks is humanity’s biggest fault, but continues to side with him when matters are most dire).

honorable mention: in me2 when the SR2 is revealed and joker says “it’s good to be home, huh commander?” and shepard says “i guess we’ll have to give her a name.”

she then leads the fifth fleet towards sovereign during the battle of the citadel, and lands the killing blow mind you.

what’s even more beautiful:

the ssv normandy is at the head of every single fleet in the galaxy at the end of the final game. exactly where she deserves to be.

you know what my favorite thing is about kaidan and his story ark?

he undeniably follows shepard loyally through the first game no question. he admires her for her title and the medals she single-handedly won. he had no reason to doubt her authority.

another note is that you have missions pertaining to every one of the crew members, except kaidan. (or ashley if you so choose). wrex, with his family armor. garrus, with dr. saleon. tali, with the geth data. and even liara, on noveria.

mass effect 2 is about loyalty. earning the trust from your crew, even garrus and tali need a loyalty mission before they can perform their best on the mission.

what im trying to point out is, you don’t just go somewhere and fight someone or something for kaidan to think better of you after mass effect 2. you earn his trust. through being exactly who he remembers you to be, through showing him that you still care by visiting him at the hospital after mars.

kaidan never needed anything from shepard. he just wanted to know that she was real. that her feelings for him, everything that happened between them was real.

and it was.
