So lately my anxiety has been through the roof; I won’t be seeing my family this year thanks to the ongoing pandemic bc it’s too unsafe to fly and too far to drive, and I haven’t seen them since last year’s holidays. I think I’m finally realizing that, and it’s got me really upset. I don’t exactly have a wide circle (or practically any circle) during this pandemic since 99% of my friends live in other states, cities, or countries, so it’s just been me and my pets for the last ~9 months with occasional visits with one friend who is moving to another country in next month. And it’s all hitting me at once to culminate in really severe anxiety and some resultant depression.
As such, I’ve been really off track with eating well and exercising. And I’ve been lenient with myself bc I recognize that this is tough, and I need to cut myself some slack, but I also know that the habits I’ve gotten into make me feel worse. I’m struggling with getting my sugar consumption back down to a healthy level and that’s my biggest (physical) concern at the moment because it really does screw with my cognition and clearheadedness and mood (and makes my skin break out and leaves me with a stomachache...).
Basically, I know what I need to be doing, and I know how to do it logically, I just can’t seem to get myself there.

So I’ve been keeping track of the Chrystul Kizer case (a 19 year old black woman charged with killing her abuser when she was 17). You can find the full story here: https://nypost.com/2019/12/18/chrystul-kizer-faces-life-in-prison-for-killing-her-alleged-pedophile-abuser-randy-volar/. In case anyone didn’t know:
-her hearing is set for June 8, 2020
-her bail is set for $400,000
-you can keep updates on her here: https://freechrystul.wordpress.com/2020/03/05/some-good-news-for-chrystul/, as well as find resources to support her. You can write her a letter, sign petitions, etc.
-her family has set up a fundraiser for her here: https://fundrazr.com/FreeChrystulKizer?ref=ab_AdkL5uoLQcdAdkL5uoLQcd I’ve been keeping track of it often, but hardly anyone has contributed! This is what it looks like now:

Not even close to the $45K goal. She needs money not only for court and bail, but also for things afterwards, like therapy.
If you could reblog and share this, that would be great!

There’s a lot about losing weight that is awesome. my clothes fit better, I don’t get tired out as easily and my knees don’t hurt as much, but there is one thing you dont prepare yourself for…loose skin. Going from as big as I was to what am now has left me with an awful stomach. But do you know what? I’d take a bit of loose skin over being as big as I was any day. So here I am, 6 and a half stone lighter and happier, loose skin and all!

Home constantly with this quarantine means boredom and/or binge eating have been hard to avoid. Most days (weekdays at least) are fine overall due to the routine I’ve got with work, but weekends are definitely rough.
But I have to say, I’m pretty proud of how far I’ve come. My binges now tend to cap out my daily calories at about 3000 (including my other meals). Sure 3000 is way too much, but previously I could eat that and more within just the binge alone, discounting the rest of my daily eating. And the frequency with which that happens is way down as well! I haven’t put on any weight in my month of quarantine, have been maintaining and trying to get a good amount of physical activity in most days.

I have done 20 minutes of exercise 3 whole days in a row and I know it’s not much of anything at all, but I am AWFUL at exercising any sort of consistently. It’s usually one sporadic day every couple weeks or so, so this is already a win!
*to clarify, when I say exercise, I mean exercise by doing something outside of my regular walking. I walk a lot every day, but I do nothing to improve my strength, so I’ve been following some beginner strength training videos and asked my mom to call/text me and ask how it was going a couple of times a week to help me be motivated (and serve as my reminder since I will genuinely forget to do it. I set an alarm to remind me by 6:30pm if I still haven’t done it. I accomplish nothing without alarms to remind me that time is passing.)

Work out tips for begginers
…written by a beginner
I have been struggling with working out my entire life. Why? Because I hate it and I’m just really bad at it. Recently however, my mental health has gotten so bad I was willing to put anything into getting better. One of the things I had to start doing was regular working out. So today, after months of working out regularly, I bring you my mini fitness guide for beginners:
Have a legit reason why -People hardly ever do things just because they should. You might be able to start off with that reason but you won’t last. I work out to better my mental health. What about you?
Put away embarassment, focus on your body -Working out is intimidating as hell, especially if you’re not very good at it. Try not to worry about what others think about you, just focus on doing it correctly. Doesn’t matter whether you’re jogging or doing yoga, just focus on you and your body.
Try as many things as you can -Deciding you’ll do a specific work out routine every week or this one yoga flow every day is great, but at the beginning it is important to try out what you like and what you’re good at. Try looking up a workout on youtube one week, then go jogging the next. Then you can go and play tennis with friends or visit the gym.
Be consistent -You might not even have a schedule. You don’t even need strict rules. Just make sure you keep going.
Even the smallest things count -There will be days when you just can’t do it. Especially if you struggle with mental health issues, things might seem extremely overwhelming. Just remember that something is better than nothing. You might not work out for hal an hour, but you might choose to walk home instead of going by car. You might not go jogging but you might go for a walk.
Do not make working out a punishment -Don’t go and exhaust yourself because you overate. Never take working out as a punishment.
Eat enough and eat healthy -Do not starve yourself. When you force your body to give away more energy than it usually does, you better feed it well.
Listen to your body -There’s a big difference between being lazy and actually being exhausted. Many motivational posts and quotes might call you out on excuses but when your body tells you you can’t do it, then don’t force it. You might make things worse.
Keep going -Just don’t quit it. You might have a pause for a week or even more but the second you realise it, get back. Get up and get back on it.

reminder that yearly goals are achieved by setting monthly goals that are achieved by setting weekly goals. Achieving your major goals comes through progress and setting smaller, challenging but achievable goals that leads to getting through those major goals. This helps make those major, daunting goals less daunting, having step by step for yourself to achieve whatever you want.
