Volume on for this one. It was my first attempt at trying to choreograph poi in my living room. There is a point where I didn’t realize how close i was to my coffee table but i kept flowing & it didn’t break the timing. I practiced till it was clean & debated posting, but I ultimately feel life & each experience we have is an opportunity to grow. We can see change, but fist we need to practice a little self- love so we can meet ourselves where we are at. This allows us to stay present in our daily’s and when we look back we can appreciate our own growth journeys. I feel the need on this first Valentine of the decade to repeat my fave quote as it has bearing: When you change the way you look at things; the things you look at change. For the few minutes today that my teen daughter actually wanted my attention for her clothing selections, (she’s figuring out her style), we ended up grabbing a journal i have on a shelf w actual photo albums! (Can you believe they still exist?) In that journal is the singular photo of me from Koh Phangan, Thailand (Age 24) which had been in there for the past 20 years! Her jaw drops, w a big: wow Mom. Look at how flat your stomach is, how long your hair & so brown! You were such a hottie. She continued to inspect the pic in amazement! She read a little of the journal too. Watching my 15 yr old daughter acknowledging that mom was once young too was pretty cool. She went from seeing me as Mom; Nagger; Controller of house & her freedoms to seeing me as a younger person in a foreign country expressing adventure, independence, fearlessness & a completely open ❤️ heart ❤️. It occurred to me that when you are more petite there’s not quite as much spine to stretch especially in a pose like #urdhvadhanurasana or upward bow. So much effort is concerted in arms and legs holding the body up. This flow was taken today after teaching yoga class. I did not have any prepared ideas of where I was going but this little hip opening and heart opening flow happened.
