im like. imagining that cell doesn't know certain things that one should know. he's having a normal ass conversation with bulma or something (i imagine in his imperfect form for some reason) and bulma's like, 'yeah, and then my family and I are going to go to the beach on saturday!" and cell is like, 'what the fuck is a beach', and bulma pauses because she knows damn well cell has seen a beach, running around sucking up people all the time, so she describes it to him and he's just like, "oh you mean B24 terrain type" cause thats what the super computer labeled it as to him
#I always imagined that Cell would have similar confusions with things Gero's computer 'teaching' him would deem unnecessary for him to know#things like the names of foods or human-specific games and activities or even basic emotions#they would just be filed away under a generic label on a spreadsheet with maybe a brief descriptor if he's lucky#after all; why bother explaining to a living weapon what a bowl of ramen is other then 'food' or 'edible substance no.01728'?#Even a wet hard-drive like a brain has limited storage capabilities#and Gero(and by extension his computer)would deem it far more important for Cell to know Goku's entire history and all his fighting#techniques in graphic detail verses understanding what sadness is#dragon ball#cell#reblog

A bit of a sequel sketch to my 'we could have been friends' drawing with kid Gohan and larva Cell. This time, they're actually playing superheroes together! Gohan made his costume out of old clothes and a bed sheet for a cape, and made Cell's out of construction paper and string. As to whether Chi-Chi would be upset about Gohan stealing her laundry, well that's for them to worry about later...

Fandom Engagement, Insecurity, and Connection
I've been wanting to pose this question for awhile now, and that is:
This is something that has plagued me for years. The moment I start creating writing fic for a fandom, that's the same moment I can't read anyone else's fic and have to limit the comic/fanarts I look at. I judge myself so harshly in comparison to others, beating myself up by thinking, "Why couldn't you come up with an idea like that? Everything good has already been done and done better, so why even bother? You'll never be as good as them. You'll never have your stuff liked as much as theirs."
And on and on.
I'm recognizing this is a trauma response, and my brain is trying to protect me from a threat rather than focus on enjoyment. I have yet to discover what the threat is. But what I think it's leading to is connection and the feeling of belonging.
My therapist shared something from a book on autism that autistic people (and ND in general, I believe) experience a particularly powerful energy transfer between themselves and someone they share a common interest with. It's deeper than other connections, and that's been so true for me. I don't really have many people I connect with who share the same interests as me (i.e. the same fandoms). And it feels so lonely.
The reason this is coming about so strongly again and why I'm shaming myself so hard is because my newest hyperfixation is Hazbin Hotel (You can never plan for them, can you? They just happen😅 ). I read two fics and LOVED them. Wanted to find fanart. And I was loving getting the chance to finally engage with content because I had no intention of joining the fandom to contribute.
And then I did. And everything shifted.
Even though the evidence is there that people enjoy what I've written so far for Hazbin, the insecurities are roaring to where I'm ready to throw in the towel, burn it all down, and tell myself "Why do you think you're special? Why do you think people would want to read your stuff? Look how many more likes and comments that author/artist has. You'll never be that good."
So I'd love to know if anyone has experienced this as a creator, and if you're fundamentally looking for connection too. And I'd love to know if it happens more in ND individuals.

As much as I dislike Todd Howard for basically causing everything wrong with modern Bethesda, boy do I feel sorry for him here.

Todd Howard is a lying coward who has helped stagnate Bethesda as a game company of course but god damn imagine having to deal with Elon at a professional event your company is mainlining where you couldn’t just leave the conversation without it being a headline. Genuinely a nightmare

Boy I can't wait until AO3 puts in a system of tag blocking like a Blacklist or something.
I know you can exclude tags while searching, but I'd love to not have to tailor my search prefs every time I just want to browse, ya know?
At least let me block the mass crossover stories! I don't want to block *all* the crossover stories, but the ones with like 3+ fandoms are either just short fic compilations that have minimal in common(don't do this, seriously) or are just plain...bad.

Anon was likely referring to Total Drama Reunion, which had a cease and desist issued by Fresh TV to it.
This was primarily because the project was easily mistaken for an official product by a layman and was shown in media coverage as a 'continuation of Total Drama', right when they had an actual continuation in production and ready to be announced. Also, the creators were actually profiting from TDR by setting up a Patreon and having ad revenue turned on for YouTube.
Technically, any fan work can be in danger of this happening to them, but most corporations ignore fanart and fanfiction because they're considered transformative enough to not be mistaken for the actual media in question and the fan artists are usually not trying to profit from them. But Total Drama Reunion went out of its way to match the show as closely as possible and marketed itself as such while also 'taking donations to support the team' ie. turning a profit using Fresh TV's IP. These are two things no corporate media entity is going to tolerate, thus they took action.
So, if you wanna make a fan animation that won't get Fresh TV's lawyers knocking on your door, don't match the show too closely or falsely represent it as official and do NOT set up any kind of profit generation for it. That means no Patreon, Ko-Fi, PayPal donations, ad revenue, sponsorships, merchandise, ANYTHING.
Remember, most IP owners actually prefer to look the other way when it comes to fan art, because hiring lawyers costs money and it's bad publicity to 'punish' your fans. But if you do something that causes an IP's ownership to fall into question, they WILL smack you down hard to protect their copyright and trademarks.
Be careful if you're doing an animated Total Drama project. If you're using official characters you may get a cease and desist from Fresh TV, they've shut down fan projects before.
this was one of my main concerns, but i realized other people have reanimated some world tour songs (gacha life animators specifically) using the same unaltered audio, so i THINK we should be fine. if anything, I'll be sure to put a huge disclaimer.
i think the fresh situation was similar to the warrior cats one. the companies are mostly concerned about using the likenesses of the characters themselves rather than it being purely a fan animation with music (even from the show itself). i could be wrong though so feel free to correct me!
