My friend from Lebanon wrote up a really good thread on Twitter I thought I should share here, just to clear up some of the inaccuracies floating around:
I know the fandom’s popular take is that Tony decided to figure out time travel all because of Peter, which is not untrue, Tony loves Peter and he felt strongly that he owed it to him to at least try; but this take is also undermining Tony’s character because all you need to ask is if Peter had been alive, would Tony still came round and helped the Avengers and figured out time travel for a chance to get everyone else back, and the answer is undoubtedly a yes. When the possibility was presented to him, no matter how hard his head would be telling him to ignore it, his heart couldn’t look the other way. Remember this is Tony ‘I saw them all dead. I wasn’t ready. I didn’t do all I could.’ Stark, he couldn’t possibly sit back and watch everyone else suffer, knowing there was a way that might help while he enjoyed the comfort of having his family safe.
This is a character who’s constantly weighed down by survivor guilt, from the first Iron Man ‘I shouldn’t be alive, unless it was for a reason.’, to Age of Ultron when his worst fear was everyone dying because he didn’t do enough. And although frustratingly Endgame didn’t care to mention at all how Tony felt about Stephen giving up the stone for him so he could live while half the universe got dusted, there was a line from Pepper which reflected Tony’s morality and showed us how it hadn’t changed after all these years, ‘but would you be able to rest? [..] Trying to get you to stop has been one of the few failures of my entire life.’ Because that’s who Tony is, he simply can’t stop and walk away especially when knowing he’s one of the few who could do something about it. Tony Stark’s whole arc is him trying to the right thing, he struggles, he makes mistake, but he never stops trying to do what he knows in his heart that is right. I’m not undermining Peter’s importance to Tony, but this take ‘If not for Peter Tony wouldn’t risked it all’ is seriously reducing Tony’s years of character foundation, the truth is, regardless of who he lost or didn’t lost in the snap, when someone presented him a not-out-of-reach possibility to bring everyone back, Tony would still eventually came round and risked his life to do it, because this is Tony Stark. I just feel that this needs to be said.

“My boy is Benedict!
He’s brilliant, actually. And it’s not blowing smoke up his arse, like ‘Brilliant as in: ‘He is a nice bloke!’ He has a sensibility and an oddness to him. And a directness and a fantastic sense of humor […].
He is a very generous, very thoughtful, focussed, disciplined actor […].
Not everyone runs in the Olympics… Benny should be running in the Olympics.”
