In exploring all sorts of edges, from the ideological to the cultural, I have learned that they all share one simple thing in common.
They are points of connection, thresholds, places where the limitations of category begin to dissolve and take new shape as they become something other.
The edge of your mouth connects your mouth to your whole face.
The edge of your skin connects you to other bodies, or to the space between yours and other bodies.
The edge of your lawn connects you to the whole neighborhood.
And so on.
It is really our limitations——the things that make us distinct——that serve as the relational webbing (to borrow a term from the illustrious Shante' Zenith) holding us in the wider reality context.
Exploring those limitations is actually the key to the experience of freedom.
--
In playing with edge, we become aware of the limitations of our perceptual field.
Some days, we will be able to expand what we can include in out felt experience.
Other days, we will want to contract.
But being able to do this at will gives us greater facility with our boundaries, energy, and attention.
You don’t just need an edge to be soft.
You must be keenly aware of your edge in any given moment in order to know when, where, and how to be soft.
--
These are excerpts from an article I wrote about one of the three core dynamics of the extended body.
We will be working with Edge, as well as Centre and Periphery, at Soma Metaxy: Three Dynamics of the Extended Body.
This 2.5 hour ritual movement workshop will give you a set of practises designed to support the authentic expression and full aliveness of the body.
Artists, musicians, dancers, and performers of all kinds will especially benefit from this exploration of the threshold between the imaginal and the somatic.
May 31st, 6.15 PM, at Haw Creek Commons.

SOMA METAXY: 3 Dynamics of the Extended Body // MAY 31 6.15 PM // Haw Creek Commons, Asheville NC // $25
Tumblr media
No experience leaves us unmarked.
In this respect, a body can be seen as a system of impressions.
In my dance lineage, we often dedicate our practise to the dead—ancestors, ghosts, or even feelings and events that haunt us.
We dance as living altars. We dance as the remembrance of all those who came before, human and non-human.
Tumblr media
For this event, you’ll be asked to bring one portal object for our communal altar.
This object can represent an ancestor that you’d like to dedicate your movement to, or a place that lies embedded deep within your memories.
It can even be a simple symbol representing the Otherworld, underworld, Spirit world, or more-than-human levels of reality in some way.
During our time together, we’ll be inhabiting the space between the somatic and the imaginal in order to build greater connection between them.
This sort of creative movement practise is perfect for actors, dancers, musicians, and anyone else that wants to support their body towards greater creative expression, awareness, and regulation.
Tumblr media
Please consider your portal object selection with great care and self trust, ideally a few days to a week before we meet.
Our portal objects will serve as anchors to the tangible as well as bridges to the world beyond.
SOMA METAXY: Three Dynamics of the Extended Body. May 31st, 6:15 PM, at Haw Creek Commons.
I am looking forward to sharing creative ritual space with you!
// More about Soma Metaxy //
The "extended body" is an experience we have at the intersection of the soma, the imaginal, and the environment. As a ritual movement practise, Soma Metaxy (which translates to "body between") can help us rebuild our sense of communion with the more-than-human world.
In this 2.5 hour class, I will lead a group of 30 humans through 6 movement meditation practises for dropping deeply into centre, exploring our periphery, and meeting the edges of our sense-gates.
Join me on May 31st at 6:30 PM to learn these techniques, which are inspired by Butoh, Laban-Bartinieff Movement Analysis, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Reichian characterology, and more.
Admission is $25. Check out the Facebook event page to learn more and sign up:

Are you in, or are you out?
Tumblr media
Because there is no "in between" anymore.
Gone are the days of your indecision, of avoiding grief by avoiding choice. You couldn't go back if you tried. What a relief to know deep within that even if you could, you wouldn't dream of it.
You have come far, dear warrior. You have done well to arrive here now, considering the task that lies before you and every other human being of this earth.
It's no small task.
Are you in?
The boundaries between seeming opposites dissolved before your discerning eyes long ago. An alchemist is never fooled by apparent extremes. There is great harmony within you, for your mind is as sharp as your heart is soft.
Offer your genius back to whence it came.
Retrieve all parts neglected, abandoned, hidden away safe from judging eyes and torches all aflame. Weave them, that they may become an elegant quilt. Wrap the children of the world in it, so that they may know the warmth of the arms of God.
The world was born anew while we slept in those arms. Now the path is lit by the torch of our collective courage. Now the ancestors stand proudly at our sides. Now the way forward is clear and beckoning.
Can you set down your addiction to hardship, your love of deprivation, your need to sacrifice? Can you stretch to hold more, to tether the past to your arms and legs and let it fortify you, rather than obstruct your stride?
Can you let yourself be the beloved, the exalted, the loyally followed?
You are cordially invited to let the old world die. You are invited to fiercely love it to death. You are invited to steward a new world--a world in the image of the gods.
Are you in?

This collective message is from 1/25/24.
Collective messages, which used to be on my website, are migrating to Substack.
These are prose poems intended to be used either as creative inspiration & guidance or for entertainment purposes. They are based on a set of cards, runes, and numbers I pull intuitively every Wednesday.
They are timeless, which means they are relevant to whenever you feel drawn to them rather than to the date they are written.
I’ll post an old message from the website every Monday at 8AM and a new message every Thursday at 8 AM.
If it resonated, you can check out the extended analysis below.

There is nothing noble about self-abandonment.
You’re not doing it out of love for others, as much as your inherited paradigm might want you to believe.
You’re not doing it because it’s the right thing to do.
Cosmic laws flow from an authenticity, an earnest realness far beyond any small human sense of right and wrong.
You’re doing it to adhere to a false sense of what’s safe.
To avoid stirring the pot. Keeping sweet to control how you are seen.
Once upon a time, it wasn’t safe for you to be seen.
And what would happen now, if you came fully alive, fully online?
What would they think of you then? How would it change things?
Better not to risk it, right?
Wrong.
My love, this delusion is unsustainable.
That tight suit you wear to blend in is bursting at the seams.
And you are not yet ready to be revealed in your radiant, full creative power.
Get ready.
Because the world is craving, now more than ever, a version of you that is fully alive and surrendered to the animate force that moves through all things.
And the world will create circumstances under which this will come alive, whether you are ready for it or not.

The Oscillator's Stone is a weekly publication exploring the intersection of ritual theory, art, imaginal-somatic practise, and syncretic witchcraft.
There are two publications, one of which is completely free and the other of which is partially free:
Ritual Reflections (Wednesday)
Every week, I pull one card as the theme for the Ritual Reflections newsletter and publish it on Wednesday.
The newsletter is broken into five sections. Sections one and two are available to the public, but sections 3-5 are only available to paid subscribers.
Tarot tune
An original song based on a tarot card. There will be a new one every week, lyrics included.
Offerings
Here, I'll share about upcoming workshops, courses, lectures, and ways to work together more intimately if you're looking for ritual support, oracular guidance, or creative direction.
Song of the week
A song that feels relevant to the week's musings.
Quote of the Week
A quote from a book I’m currently reading. Usually, it doesn’t have anything to do with the card of the week.
Ritual reflections
Here, I usually share whatever has been going on with me lately. Sometimes, I write about some topics I’ve been exploring. Other times, I’ll write more propositional material on the nature of ritual practise. Sometimes I just ramble for a few paragraphs about something I’m processing. No matter what, the ritual reflections will always be tied back to the notion of magic.
Collective Messages (Thursday)
Every week, I create a prose poem based on tarot and oracle cards, runes, and numbers that I intuitively select.
This prose poem can be used as intuitive guidance, creative inspiration, or purely for entertainment. It is up to you what feels best, but please take things as they resonate and always trust your own judgement regarding the meaning of things.
The collective message is broken into four sections:
Prose poem
The message itself, which is in prose poem format.
Extended analysis
I explain the meaning of each rune, card, and number that was divined.
Offerings
I'll share about upcoming workshops, courses, lectures, and ways to work together more intimately if you're looking for ritual support, oracular guidance, or creative direction.

"Time is a construct."
I’m sure you’ve heard this woefully reductionist statement more than enough times, and I’m not one for this kind of reductionism, but let’s explore this statement a bit more closely.
What people usually mean by this is that time’s not real.
Well, sure, maybe “half an hour” is an arbitrary unit of measurement, but it’s also a way of experiencing the world.
We are born, we age, we die.
We watch the earth tumble through countless iterations of the same seasons over, and over, and over again.
We wake up and watch the sun slowly ride overhead in what some cultures regarded as a holy chariot.
The construct of time is integral to the human experience, it’s integral to how we make sense of the world.
But those of us steeped in this capitalistic productivity mindset, those of us steeped in a culture that’s obsessed with progress and plagued by greed and materialism, we only see one way of experiencing time as valid.
We only respect the experience of linear time.
Past, present, future.
And the human capacity to time-bind, to borrow a word from the cognitive scientists, has contributed to our survival as a species to no small degree.
We need to experience linear time. But it’s not the only way.
Ask anyone you know who has ADHD or any other form of neurodivergence. We experience something known as “time-blindness.”
Folks with ADHD are often chronically late and tend to hyperfocus on tasks, get distracted, and lose track of time.
But if you actually speak to one, you’ll likely discover that phenomenologically, time itself ceases to exist for them.
Suddenly we find ourselves in the place beyond place, in the time outside of time.
Serious ritual practitioners and trance-induction artists train their whole lives to be able to do on purpose what an ADHDer’s family and friends desperately want them to stop doing.
But this is the place beyond place, the time outside of time—the place where the oracles and seers live.
When I was a child, I spaced out a lot. I did a lot of what I called “talking to the fairies.”
I’d go into this place beyond place, this time beyond time, and I’d have visions. I’d hear voices.
…I had precognitive dreams, many of which actually unfolded in adulthood.
I was called imaginative, creative, and gifted by some. I was called lazy, spoiled, and inattentive by others.
But these experiences felt normal to me.
Familiar, even, like I’d done them many times over, like I was meeting old friends, like I was remembering ancient ways that those around me had forgotten.
So, what was happening with me, exactly?
Where did these precognitive dreams, these visions, these voices, come from?
And what’s really happening in the experience of the oracle, the neurodivergent, the ritualist in trance?
What’s the point of experiencing time as nonlinear, of experiencing place as nonlocal, of experiencing events as acausal?
Well, what if this perspective is as true as the linear, causal, local perspective?
What if, in some ways, it’s actually more true?
This is an excerpt from the lecture I’ll be giving on transrational divination on April 26th, 7PM EDT.
This will be a deep exploration of intuitive ability, the nature of time, the importance of perspectival facility, and the sacred responsibility of seership in a society that sees the imagination as separate from reality, rather than a valid way of experiencing it.
The recording and transcript will be available to paid Substack subscribers and those who have signed up, but if you’d like to join the unrecorded live discussion, sign up here.

I made a playlist for my ancestors.
And I mean all of them.
Even the ones who are speculative (which is all of them.)
Even the ones who were perpetrators of violence, the ones who sold others into slavery, the ones who got into my gene pool by way of forcing themselves in.
All. Of. Them.
When we don't claim the whole ancestral field, we fragment ourselves. We move through the world only half-alive. We can offer only a fraction of our gifts and power to the world.
But when we claim our wholeness, including the wholeness of those who came before, we heal the ruptures created by the harmful actions of the wounded ancestors and we invite more of the support of the benevolent ones.
And we clear a channel for those who will arrive after, so that they may offer even more potent medicine to the world.
So I sing to every one. I claim every one. I dance with every one.
Listen to the playlist at the link below! It features everything from Ghanian folk and sean nos and spirituals to sea shanties.
Oh what a blessing it is to be a mutt 🌙
