Hi, regarding some of the previous asks, I must say, do you think undead beings can be good, or they are always inherited evil? Also is necromancy so evil as they say? Isn't death just another force of nature. What is more evil bringing back a loved one or using light to blind and burn? Shouldn't be relative?
You went from is Necromancy is always bad to whether or not goodness is relative in 4 sentences. Not that I mind your questions, you’re just not going to get an individual answer for all of them, you’re going to get the collective answer for all.
See, in any setting when these questions come up, it’s not a moral failing to be the ones asking them or to have the onus of answering them. All of us have to deal with the eventual uncertainty of having to decide what is truly good or whether anything is good, or whether moral and ethical philosophy is worth getting into in the face of the very real daily challenges we face.
But that’s not what being a Paladin is about. A Paladin is someone who needs to make those decisions and act on them with the force of their convictions. If necromancy or undead are present, the Paladin is the one is among the first to decide how they’re going to deal with this, knowing that their decision will have a moral force behind it that anyone who knows the Paladin will respect. If a Paladin finds an undead revenant on the quest to avenge their family, and they choose to accompany them, observers will pause and consider whether that revenant is more than an undead monster. If a fallen angel threatens a group of half orcs for their perceived impurity, a Paladin standing in the angel’s way is a moral argument against the very real evil that presents with the force of your convictions that others will see and recognize.
In other words, everyone can speculate on relativity and exceptions on morality and ethics, but a Paladin is one will be taking their cues from because once they find their conviction, they are oath bound to stick to it.

ive seen people mention that a perk to using a mace or warhammer is that they can shatter a sword. while yes, a sword can be pretty fragile in comparison to what is essentially an upgraded club, the thing about that is swords are nimble. they have the center of mass that close to the guard for that reason, it allows them to be quickly moved
so if you swing that mace AT a persons sword, that person can just...move the sword really easily. and you, already in mid swing, will have to commit to that swing all the way back up to a ready position

The villagers watched a mighty paladin battle the demon under the full moon. At long last, the demon was vanquished.
"Did you see an old lady?" the villagers called. "It took her!"
The paladin looked at the moon setting, then shuddered and seemed to shrink. The armour turned to mist, the sword became a cane.
"I'm here."
"You're a… werepaladin? Is that a- How?"
"In my youth, I was bitten by a paladin." The old woman smiled fondly. "Many times."

Round 1, Side A - D'Arce (Fear and Hunger) vs. Paksenarrion (The Deed of Paksemarrion by Elizabeth Moon)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda:
D'Arce (Fear and Hunger)
her hair is dumb and i like that
Paksenarrion (The Deed of Paksenarrion)
First of, she is literally a paladin. She starts out as a shepherd's daughter and then goes on to join a mercenary company and eventually becomes a paladin. She fights cultists and various monsters over her journeys and eventually disappears. Not too clear on the details because I haven't read the books for awhile. Unrelated to her paladin accomplishments, she is canonically aroace (:
Pakse is *the* Paladin ideal - she's got the touch of the gods, the sense of evil, the divine mount and beyond all that, hell even when she doesn't have any of those things yet, she's so damn good. Virtuous to a fault.

i hate whenever theres a paladin/knight/generally gruff protector-type character in an alternate or historical time period, and when theyre adapted to the modern day or theres a popular modern AU headcanon theyre ALWAYS a cop. you fools. you fucking fools. a good aligned paladin wouldnt be a cop they would be a drug sponsor. a domestic cleaner. a child support worker. a sanitation worker. its not about cutting people in half with a zweihander its about serving the goddamn community

“Oh, that wasn’t a fight. It was more an alternate means of communication Journeyman and I have developed over the years. You never set out to fight someone. What you want to do is confront them and resolve whatever issues are at hand. It doesn’t always have to be physical. But if it is, it doesn’t matter if you win or you lose,” Grimm said. “If you’re willing to fight, you make your point and win respect. But.” He paused for a moment for emphasis. “Never. Ever. In front of the crew. It would gut his pride and their morale if you won and do worse than that if you lost. Always discipline. Never humiliation. Hear?”

Yet keeping calm the knight just quipped, "Why should I shy away? If fate is kind or cruel, man still must try. "
