BTS - In The Mood of Love Pt.1 First Listen Review

BTS has finally comeback on 29th April 2015! Their third mini album is called In The Mood of Love Pt. 1, and I am guessing maybe there are other parts coming soon. This morning, I spent my time listening to the songs in the album and overall, I have to say that I am impressed and this is exactly my cup of tea.

First song is the Intro : 화양연화

This song is used for the comeback trailer. It started with a panting breathing, followed by Suga’s emotionally rap that gradually become harsher, stronger, and simply better. The beat is great, and really compliments Suga’s voice. Suga’s rap makes me able to feel his frustration and desire to find something through this track. This track is about 2 minutes long, considering it is an intro, but I somehow hoped it will be longer.

Rating : 8.5/10

Second song is the I Need You

This title track is completely different from BTS’s other title track like Danger that has heavier beats, `in your face’ lyrics while this song is softer but still maintains that raw lyrics about wanting a girl to stay. This title song started off slow, but when the beat drops, I am sure this song will be your jam right away. This songs starts off with Suga’s rap, continues with Taehyung’s singing before Jimin and Jungkook singing how they need the girl in the chorus. Rap Monster continues to rap his heart out before Jin’s sweet voice makes you melt. The chorus is definitely very catchy and reminds me to a chillstep song. J-Hope doesn’t get much lines here but I’m sure he will get lines in other songs. The last chorus reminds me to the last chorus in Danger because of it certain pauses in it.

Third song is the 잡아줘 (Hold Me Tight)

This song is what exactly I expected from BTS because to me, they do this style the best. The song is a laid-back song, and just perfect for me to listen before I go to sleep. Considering the title, we can’t expect it to be a very heavy, upbeat song, can we? This type of song reminds me to Crush’s `Want’ from Crush On You album. This song talks about how they hopes the girl that they love holds them tight, not letting them go. The message doesn’t differ much with I Need You. The chorus is very relaxing and just my type of song. The beat, is just…perfect. If this song has choreo in it, body roll is a MUST! Can I just say how I love how Jimin sounds here? Definitely a recommended song from this mini album.

Fourth song is SKIT : Expectation!

It is not actually a song, it is just the members talking and I guess it is about their album. Because I don’t understand Korean, I can’t understand anything from it…The struggle…

Fifth song is 쩔어 (Sick)

This song is life to me! First listen, I already hooked up to it. Jungkook’s `hey yo ladies and gentlemen’ is so epic and gets me pumped up for the song. The drop has a funky, fresh beat that is so awesome, I can’t express it in words. The song makes you energetic, and you will want to dance to this song. The message is totally different from I Need You and Hold Me Tight. This type of song is new to BTS, and they pulled just right. For the fans that are not into slow type of song, this will be your jam!

Sixth song is 흥탄소년단

A very upbeat song that shows about who they are. This might be their second official anthem, next to Rise of Bangtan from O,RUL8,2? album. The starting of the song that says ` We’re here, the fun boys. Here, here, the fun boys’ is so fun and catchy! It sounds like they are enjoying it so much. I literally clap my hands while listening to this song. The funky beat with BTS singing together while clapping hands sounds like a great song to me. I wondered whose deep, hoarse voice after the first chorus. I guess it is V? But to me, I felt like I had heard this song somewhere, thus, makes this song sounds expected to me. It is a great song, but it didn’t leave a huge mark compared to Sick.

Seventh song is Converse High

First time I heard the title, I thought that maybe Rap Monster wrote the lyrics to this song, because he said before he really likes girl that wears red converse. The song is a happy song that tells about a boy who loves converse on their girlfriends. It is a cute, innocent song that it reminds me to Miss Right in Skool Luv Affair album. Perfect for couples that are drunk in love, this song is very suitable while you are walking on the park, with the shining sun, together with your loved ones. It also gave a spring/summer feel to it.

Rating: 7.5/10

Eighth song is 이사 (Move)

This song is…perfect. R&B/Hip-hop is my favorite genre from BTS. The voice in the background sounds annoying at first, but as the song goes on, it is actually perfect with the song. Jungkook’s chocolate voice makes me fly through the fluffy clouds…(whut?) Anyways, this song tells about how they are moving to a better, higher place. I guess this song is a story about them, since they debuted until now. The memories of that time lingers in their minds in a form of bittersweet moments, as they take a step into a better person. It is a very personal song to them, I suppose. My second favorite song after I Need You.

Rating: 9.5/10

Ninth song is Outro : Love is Not Over

Just like other outros, only the vocal lines take part in this song. The song reminds me to Outro: Does That Makes Sense from their last album. Outros are usually one of my favorites in the album. Just like the intro, I secretly hoped that this song will be longer, but I know it won’t come true. *sighs* Anyways, the vocal line harmonize in this song, making this song very awesome and emotional. They hoped their girl will come back to them and loves them. It is a continuation from I Need You. They still wants the girl, and their singing proves how desperate they are.

Rating: 9.0/10

Overall score: 88/100

Finally, I am done with the first listen review of BTS new mini album. BTS never disappoints, and this album is one of the greatest from them. Very worth listening to. If you are not a fan, try to listen to the mini album, and you will be hooked to them. ARMYs, make sure to support them and helps them to get the number 1 on music shows!
