The Allen and Heath Qu-16 digital mixer needs to happen at some point in my life.

Here are the top three dynamic microphones that are extremely versatile. From percussion to stringed instruments these are the way forward in my opinion.

First acoustic guitar! There is a maze of guitars out and it can be hard to know which one is best. In my opinion something with a thin neck and a solid wood top is the best option. Solid wood is more resonant than laminated wood and so produces a more accurate tone. Try them out and compare! This will help you understand the differences. The 4 brands that have a great beginner range that I would recommend checking out are the trusty Yamaha, Epiphone, Fender and Sigma. These will have a range from £100 to £350. If you are going to pay more that £500 then get an all solid wood guitar or a Martin or Taylor Mexican range. Enjoy your search for the right acoustic and have a great Christmas!

The Sontronics STC-1S stereo pair are fantastic cardioid pencil microphones with variable filters are pads. If you are getting into recording I would highly recommending these. Mainly because they are under £300, sound extremely clear and perfect for micing up a large number of instruments. Tips - Why you should mix on monitors, overear and inear headphones. Making music is like making a good sandwich. If you miss a key ingredient you won't be happy. Monitors are great to crank up the volume when making a tune. But to hear true detail - levels/panning/frequencies that may be clashing etc headphones are the way forward. I will always recommend listening to music not just your own through monitors and headphones as much as possible, then every mix will be more consistent, like your sandwich with all of the right flavours and nothing over powering! Compare your mixes to others of a similar style. Listen at a low volume to stay creative for longer.
