LORD SHANGO ‘ORIGINAL 1975 MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK BY HOWARD ROBERTS’
Somewhere amid the sea of pimps and tough guys, Blaculas and Blackensteins that came to characterize the films of the Blaxploitation era was a curious little oddity that defied classification. Not scary enough to be horror, too supernatural to be drama, with far too many animal sacrifices to be a romance, Lord Shango represented a solemn, contemplative, spiritual alternative to the sort of “exploitative” sex and violence-laden criminal storylines that gave Blaxploitation its name.
Released in early 1975, Lord Shango’s marketing materials painted it as a horror movie…but in truth, it’s a thoughtful, deliberately paced blend of genres similar in tone and cultural content (comparable to the spirit and feel of the 1973 film Ganja & Hess…and also starring Marlene Clark) and plays like a “woke” old-timey melodrama in the mold of the “race films” of the early 20th century from pioneering black directors like Oscar Micheaux and Spencer Williams. This racial consciousness is undoubtedly a manifestation of the Afrocentrism and Black Power movement of the ’60s and ’70s.
Writer Paul Carter Harrison, whose playwright background comes through in the literate, dialogue-driven script, was raised in a family that had roots in Marcus Garvey’s Pan-Africanism movement and the Gullah culture, and a couple of years before Lord Shango, he wrote a book about the imprint of traditional African beliefs on the black experience and the need to reflect this influence in the arts.
Released by Bryanston Pictures who rose to prominence by financing and distributing films such as the crossover porn sensation Deep Throat, as well as big horror & cult films like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Bruce Lee’s Return of the Dragon, the Andy Warhol productions Blood for Dracula-Flesh for Frankenstein, John Carpenter’s Dark Star and the animated Blaxploitation parody Coonskin.
Like the movie, the soundtrack showcases a clash of different “worlds” — musically speaking, that is. Three distinct musical styles run throughout the film, each serving to set the tone for one of the primary settings: gospel in and around the church, African drumming in the Yoruba village and jazz/R&B/funk in the “real world”. The music in Lord Shango is almost a character unto itself.
The man versatile enough to provide this vital musical accompaniment was accomplished trumpeter, singer, composer & conductor Howard Roberts…known for his work with icons such as Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin and countless others. Roberts had already released a couple of his own albums, including one that seems like a direct precursor to Lord Shango: 1968’s Let My People Go, in which he set traditional African-American spirituals to African percussion. As the popular saying goes: the right man for the job.
Howard Roberts put his musical expertise to use on the set of Lord Shango. But it wasn’t a one-man show, of course. Among the talent he brought was ‘Gospel All Stars’ member Ella Mitchell (Sylvester, Peter Tosh), Chief Bey (Art Blakey, Pharoah Sanders) and Howard Roberts’s own Chorale (naturally) who had already worked with greats such as Ahmad Jamal and Little Richard. Vocals were also handled by the prestigious Aaron Staples Community Choir…and Milford Graves (the trailblazing free jazz percussionist) supervised the African drumming, which was reportedly performed by a pair of “African priests”.
The soundtrack to Lord Shango has it all! Expect hypnotic Yoruba drums, call-and-response chants, spiritual belting gospel choirs with Doo-wop backings…to more contemporary R&B jams with an easy-going Al Green soul-vibe, blazing funk (the more ‘stereotypical’ Blaxploitation sound), an array of fantastic jazz permutations, soothing piano ballads combined with cool mid-tempo horns…and even ‘loungy’ Latin fusion jazz-funk. This album is a must-have piece of art that just begs for a place in every serious soundtrack collectors’ collection.
Originally released in 1975 on Bryan Records (the musical division of Bryanston Pictures) it has since then become a hard-to-find collectible record that fetches high prices on the second-hand market. Tidal Waves Music now proudly presents the first official reissue of Howard Robert’s classic soundtrack to ‘Lord Shango’. This unique album comes as a deluxe 180g vinyl edition and features the original artwork. Also included is a double-sided insert featuring original movie stills and lengthy-exclusive liner notes by renowned Blaxploitation author Mark H. Harris.

THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (ORIGINAL 1972 MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK BY DAVID HESS)
Born in 1936 in New York City, David Hess began his career recording million-dollar chart toppers for the likes of Elvis Presley, Sal Mineo & Andy Williams in the 50ies & 60ies. His biggest hit is probably ‘Speedy Gonzales’ which ended up selling more than eight million copies worldwide. After a career as a record company executive the 1970s, Hess took on the role of actor, writer, director and producer in the movie industry. Writing and working with directors as Rainer Werner Fassbinder and directing the 1980 slasher “To All A Good Night” were only a few of his many accomplishments. Most of us will remember him as Krug Stillo, the leader of a gang in Wes Craven's classic 1972 cult shocker “The Last House On The Left” as well as portraying the villains in Ruggero Deodato’s “House on the Edge of the Park” (1980) and Wes Craven’s “Swamp Thing” (1982). Other movie roles include ’21 Hours At Munich’, ‘Hitch-Hike’, ‘Body Count’ and ‘Zodiac Killer’. David Hess also appeared regularly on the TV screen with appearances in shows such as ‘Knight Rider’, ‘The A-Team’, ‘The Fall Guy’ & ‘Royal Pains’. Throughout his film career Hess' love for music never waned. He continued to produce music, including several albums ("Caught Up In The Moment" and "Live & Unplugged in Hollywood, 2002."). Some of his music can also be heard on more recent soundtracks, such as ‘Cabin Fever’ (2002) and ‘Manhunt’ (2008). On October 7, 2004 just two years after his role in the 2009 horror epic “Smash Cut” starring Sasha Grey, David Hess sadly passed away at the age of 75. He will forever be in our hearts. David Hess composed the soundtrack for ‘Last House on the Left’ & his work here contains some truly beautiful songs, the discovery of which, for some, may be in stark contrast to the brutal displays of sadism and violence for which he was known to purvey onscreen. The fact that Hess could perform as both the poet, and the monster, is a testament to his skill as an artist. The soundtrack to Last House On The Left is a brilliantly unique and diverse mixture of farcical comedy, poignant, reflective folk music and instrumental experimentalism. Hess constructed a wonderful counterbalancing entity, which serves only to accentuate the impact of the movie. One Way Static Records now proudly presents the complete 1972 soundtrack to Wes Craven's ‘THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT’ composed by David Alexander Hess. DISCO GODFATHER (ORIGINAL 1979 MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK BY JUICE PEOPLE UNLIMITED) on STRANGE DISC RECORDS.
In 1979, inspired by the massive success of both “Saturday Night Fever” and “The Godfather” movies, shock comedian Rudy Ray Moore created DISCO GODFATHER, as a black-POV parody of the disco phenomenon. Disco Godfather is a classic Blaxploitation movie about an ex-cop, with a talent for both martial arts and jive, who sets out to fight the PCP epidemic taking over his neighborhood. Directed by J. Robert Wagoner, the film is starring Rudy Ray Moore (who also co-produced the film) and established genre actress Carol Speed.
Already a legendary X-rated comedy star by the 1970’s, Rudy Ray Moore later transitioned into movies. With the money he earned performing at clubs he financed DOLEMITE (1975) which would turn out to be his most iconic and successful film. Moore returned to performing stand-up during the ’80s and ’90s and gained a new fan base when rappers like Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes began sampling his records and hailing him as “the Godfather of Rap” for his use of rhymes in dialogue. In 2018 (10 years after Moore’s death), it was announced that Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow) would direct the upcoming biographical-dramedy “Dolemite Is My Name “about Rudy Ray Moore. The Netflix film will star Eddie Murphy as Rudy, other cast members will include Wesley Snipes and Chris Rock.
Every cool film needs a cool soundtrack, so the movie’s producers turned to the band “Juice People Unlimited” to crank out a funky disco flavor bomb. This studio band consisted of many noted musicians, including legendary drummer James Gadsen (one of the most recorded drummers in R&B music, having played on hundreds of hit records); bass player David Shields (Smokey Robinson, Patti Labelle, Gloria Gaynor); guitarist Paul Jackson Jr. (The Temptations, The Pointer Sisters, Bobby Womack); guitarist Wali Ali (Rick James, Marvin Gaye) & percussionist Melvin Webb (The Gap Band, Janet Jackson). The funky tunes on this album were written and arranged by the legendary Ernie Fields Jr., recognized for his baritone sax work with such iconic artists as Marvin Gaye, Rick James and Freddie Hubbard. Fields’ other credits include working as a session musician for (as well as touring with) Fred Wesley in the 1990s … and more recently his involvement as a music contractor for American Idol, The Voice and X Factor.
Delivering four lengthy tracks (including trippy sound effects and slurry nasally vocals), the band succeeds in capturing the essence of the movies’ message and concept perfectly. With distinct nods to the drug hallucination sequences depicted in the film, the repetitive funky disco groove reflects a state of trance that fits the imagery on the film like a glove.
The original (and never before reissued) 1979 vinyl soundtrack has become a highly sought-after album due to its incredibly high caliber of respected studio performers and collaborators. Collectors will shelve out a hefty amount for an original copy. Strange Disc Records now proudly presents a deluxe vinyl reissue (1000 copies) containing an insert with unseen pictures and extensive & exclusive liner notes. Released exclusively for Record Store Day (UK & Europe) 2019, available in participating stores on April 13.

THE MAGNETICS (featuring ALAN HOWARTH) ‘A HISTORICAL GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE’ on STRANGE DISC RECORDS.
Strange Disc Records proudly presents the first ever vinyl reissue of a landmark Icelandic minimal Synth album: The Magnetics ‘A Historical Glimpse Of The Future’ (1981).
The Magnetics were Jakob Magnússon and Alan Howarth, an intriguing international & iconic duo. Keyboard player Magnússon was an Icelander who already had an impressive jazz resume, while Howarth was making a name for himself as a Hollywood composer – in 1981, the same year that A Historical Glimpse of the Future was released, he also was involved in the soundtracks for two hit John Carpenter movies, Escape from New York and Halloween II.
Both have been quite successful in their post-Magentics careers, Howarth with more soundtrack work (They Live, Big Trouble In Little China, Christine etc. ) and Magnússon with various jazz outfits. Jakob would end up working as the Icelandic ambassador to the UK during the 90’s.
Throughout the fantastic A Historical Glimpse of the Future album you can hear the soundscapes people came to associate with the 1980s films scored by Carpenter/Howarth. Dark and moody material but with a strange twist as you can hear on the synth cover of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” & the old-timey cabaret-styled “I’m Getting Married Today”, two truly bizarre pieces that doesn’t seem to fit at all… and somehow by not fitting actually fits perfectly, which is the real story of A Historical Glimpse of the Future.
Originally released in 1981 on WRT (and going for hefty amounts on the second hand market), Strange Disc Records proudly presents a deluxe vinyl reissue (1000 copies) containing an insert with extensive & exclusive liner notes from Jakob Magnússon himself. Released exclusively for Record Store Day (UK & Europe) 2019, available in participating stores on April 13.

CANNIBAL FEROX (ORIGINAL 1981 MOTION SOUNDTRACK BY ROBERTO DONATI) LP
One Way Static Records proudly presents: Umberto Lenzi’s ‘CANNIBAL FEROX aka MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY’ (Original 1981 Motion Picture Soundtrack by ROBERTODONATI).
Maestro Roberto Donati was born and raised in Italy and as a guitarist/singer he ended up forming a wide variety of bands playing a broad spectrum of musical genres like Rock, Pop, R&B and Country & Western. Many of his songs were recorded as singles on the ‘Belldisc’ label in the late sixties and seventies. With all this experience under his belt Mr. Donati then devoted himself to the composition of soundtracks. These were all recorded under the pseudonym ‘Budy’ and were often collaborations with Maria Fiamma Maglione (who sadly passed away from cancer in 2003) thus the name ‘Budy Maglione’ was born.
Working with different directors (including legendary director Umberto Lenzi) he has written music for films in various genres including Italian comedy, erotic, western & horror. Highlights include "EMANUELLE e LOLITA” (1978), "EATEN ALIVE” (1980), "CANNIBAL FEROX” (1981) and “DAUGHTER OF THE JUNGLE” (1982).
Just like his contemporaries ‘Fabio Frizzi’ and ‘Riz Ortolani’, Roberto Donati was an established player in the Italian soundtrack scene…the most fame he received was probably for his soundtrack to Umberto Lenzi’s exploitation shocker “CANNIBAL FEROX” (better known in the States as “MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY”) a notorious video nasty, labeled as “The Most Violent movie ever made” that was banned or severely cut in 31 countries.
Umberto Lenzi’s 1981 Cannibal Ferox is often described as one of horror filmdom’s golden grails of soundtrack albums and holds its place between other contemporary classics like Cannibal Holocaust & The Beyond. Eli Roth described it as “powerful tribal, pounding stuff” and served as an inspiration when editing his new movie “The Green Inferno” (which is an homage to the Cannibal film genre).
Like many of the Italian cannibal films, the soundtrack is just as powerful and effective as the disturbing butchery. The use of funk guitar, bass, rock piano and synthesizer makes for a fun yet still powerful sound. It’s 70s recklessness with an 80s sensibility, perfect for a film that rides the line between two decades. Surprisingly funky and light-hearted, then again: there are cues which are genuinely mean and foreboding, serving as an essential piece that makes the film a pulse-pounding inferno of death.
Available as a deluxe limited vinyl edition on classic black vinyl (with obi strip) . This release features the original 1981 score and an additional four bonus tracks. Also included is an insert containing exclusive and extensive liner notes by Giovanni Lombardo Radice, Roberto Donati and Robert Kerman.
Available in stores & with online retailers worldwide. Also available from Light In The Attic Records --> http://www.lightintheattic.net

SURF NAZIS MUST DIE (Original 1987 Motion Picture Soundtrack by Jon McCallum) on STRANGE DISC RECORDS.
The title alone was enough for schlock fans to go rifling through VHS bins in search of a rare ex-rental copy of this 1987 TROMA gem, and understandably it’s gone down in history as one of the b-movie world’s oddest movies. The film really does exactly what you’d hope – set in a post-apocalyptic future, neo-nazi surfer punks are running riot, and of course, a gun-toting grandma seeks to wipe them out after they kill her beloved grandson. Seriously. Even if you’re not into this kind of thing (but we don’t believe that for a second), Jon McCallum’s synth-laced score is a thing of beauty & suits the post-apocalyptic setting of the film. Fans of Tangerine Dream and John Carpenter’s scores will be at home on this record. McCallum is also the composer behind genre classics such as ‘Miami Connection’ (1987), ‘Terror Eyes’ (1989) and ‘Soul Taker’ (1990). Aside from his composing work he worked on the special effects for Phantasm 2 and George Harrison’s “Got My Mind Set On You,” music video.
We are very proud to bring you the fantastic synth driven score to “Surf Nazis Must Die” by Jon McCallum. This unreleased classic soundtrack has been bootlegged for years, and we are happy to give it a proper release. Packaged as a deluxe vinyl edition with front artwork by McCallum himself with additional art direction by Adam Maida. This release also comes with an insert containing extensive liner notes and unseen pictures.
Available in stores & with online retailers worldwide. Also available from Light In The Attic Records --> www.lightintheattic.net

METAVARI 'ABSURDA - MUSIC REIMAGINED IN THE SHORT FILMS OF DAVID LYNCH' (LP)
Metavari, the moniker of American composer and electronic musician Nathaniel David Utesch introduces his new album: ’ABSURDA: Music Reimagined in the Short Films of David Lynch’.
The album contains eleven original tracks, each of which have been scored in unison to a collection of short works from filmmaker David Lynch. Spanning Lynch’s career, the films represent a breadth from student work (e.g., ‘Six Figures Getting Sick’ and ’The Alphabet’) to contemporary pieces like the title track, ‘Absurda’, and his now infamous animations: ‘Industrial Soundscape’ and ‘Dream #7’.
‘ABSURDA’ plays through as thoughtfully as the rest of Metavari’s synth-heavy catalog, but there’s an evolution here that explores a deeper level of experimentation. It is a chaotic collage of sound, rhythm, and melody; weaving through both harmonious passages and abrasive acousmatic sound. An almost “plunderphonic” execution of MIDI sequencing and percussion utilizing PCM synths and foley samples. It’s clear that Metavari has found himself on a new path as he carves his niche in electronic music.
Metavari describes the process as a “scribbling on top” of Lynch’s films. “I’ve followed David Lynch’s career my entire adult life; cherished pages from a series of love letters that feel like they were written just for me. This project is the semblance of what I’ve scribbled, in my own language, on top of those letters as I write back to the man who has inspired me more than he’ll ever know.”
The album comes packaged in a deluxe reverse-board printed jacket with a custom die-cut center hole, also included is a digital download card and a special 4-panel insert (containing synth patch diagrams & instructions for dropping the needle in unison with the ten films. This LP (on CLEAR vinyl) is strictly limited to 1000 copies worldwide. Released exclusively for Record Store Day (UK & Europe) 2019, available in participating stores on April 13.

THE BLOB (ORIGINAL 1988 MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK BY MICHAEL HOENIG) LP
One Way Static Records proudly presents, for the FIRST TIME on vinyl : MICHAEL HOENIG’S 1988 soundtrack for THE BLOB.
The Blob is a 1988 American SF-Horror film written and directed by Chuck Russell (Dream Warriors, The Mask) & Frank Darabont (The Fly II, The Mist, Tales from the Crypt). The film stars ‘Shawnee Smith’ (Saw), ‘Kevin Dillon’ (Platoon, Entourage) and Jeffrey DeMunn (The Hitcher). Special effects in the film were handled by legendary makeup artist ‘Tony Gardner’, known for his work on Army Of Darkness, Darkman, The Return Of The Living Dead…and who helped create the signature helmets for Daft Punk.
A remake of the 1958 horror film of the same name, The Blob is all about an amorphous acidic amoeba-like organism that devours and dissolves anything in its path as it grows, where it begins to feed on the residents of the fictional town of Arborville, California. Much like the original film, the remake has gained a cult following after its theatrical release in 1988.
Soundtrack duties for the film were handled by German composer Michael Hoenig, who actually doesn’t need much of an introduction.
Hoenig was part of the burgeoning progressive Kraut & Kosmische rock scene in Berlin where he was a member of the band ‘Agitation Free’ in 1971. In 1975 Hoenig joined the electronic-pioneer band ‘Tangerine Dream’ and then went on to collaborate with other big names like Klaus Schulze’ & Manuel Göttsching (of Ash Ra Tempel). In 1977 he released his first solo album, the highly acclaimed Berlin School classic ‘Departure From The Northern Wasteland’.
Over the course of multiple decades, Emmy award nominee Michael Hoenig has composed a diverse and extensive catalog of material that includes the theme to ‘Dark Skies’, the soundtrack to the extremely popular ‘Baldur’s Gate’ PC game…and countless others. Horror scores composed by Hoenig include Class Of 1999 (1990) & The Gate (1987)…he also performed on the soundtrack for Galaxy Of Terror (1981).
Michael’s music for The Blob is classic top shelf synth-driven electronica that fits the film like a glove. The voices, dark strings and feverish percussion create a rhythmic drive that embodies heroic desperation and a massive sense of relentless doom. Hoenig fashioned a creepy, compelling and atmospheric synth-based score, unleashing textured waves of sonic terror and suspense. This release is available as a limited classic black vinyl edition (with obi strip) & on a wide variety of color vinyl variants :
—> Pink/Purple Swirl Vinyl (limited to 400 copies) available exclusively from LIGHT IN THE ATTIC & MONDO in North America and through TRANSMISSION in Europe

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (ORIGINAL 1990 MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK BY PAUL MCCOLLOUGH) 2XLP (STRANGE DISC)
Strange Disc Records proudly presents FOR THE FIRST TIME ON VINYL : Paul McCollough’s original soundtrack to Tom Savini’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1990). Night Of The Living Dead (1990) is a remake of George Romero’s 1968 zombie classic of the same name. Directed by Tom Savini, the film stars iconic horror actors Tony Todd (Candyman), Tom Towles (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) & Bill Moseley (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). Savini was initially hired to perform the special effects, but was persuaded to direct by Romero who also rewrote the original 1968 screenplay and gave his seal of approval. Met with resistance at the time of release (expectancy levels were very high), nowadays the 1990 remake is appreciated by fans worldwide and has grown into a classic of its own. To quote the press: “Most remakes are horrible, and diverge so much from the original film…this version is so close to the original it’s scary”. Scoring duties were handled by writer-composer-actor Paul McCollough (known for his work on Midnight, The Crazies, Santa Claws, etc). Whilst the original film was mostly stock soundtrack, the score in Savini’s version is more 'Carpenter-esque' and the synth provides some very eerie effects used brilliantly throughout out the film. Paul delivers a frightening and disturbing (in all right ways) score here…giving it an atmosphere of creepy supernatural darkness and a feeling of impacting doom. Listener beware … you won't be able to listen to this without having to look behind your shoulder! Now, for the first time on vinyl, Strange Disc records proudly presents a deluxe DOUBLE vinyl edition featuring Paul McCollough’s complete original score for Tom Savini’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1990). This release is available as a limited classic black vinyl edition (with obi strip) & on a wide variety of color vinyl variants :

CANNIBAL FEROX ‘ORIGINAL 1981 MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK’ LP
One Way Static Records proudly presents: Umberto Lenzi's 'CANNIBAL FEROX aka MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY' (Original 1981 Motion Picture Soundtrack by ROBERTO DONATI). This release features the original 1981 score and an additional four bonus tracks. Available as a deluxe vinyl edition on classic black vinyl (with obi strip) + on two color vinyl variants : BLACK & BLUE SWIRL VINYL (Limited to 300 units) & TRANSPARANT ORANGE VINYL (Limited to 200 units). Black vinyl will be available from record stores and online retailers worldwide on 9/7. The TRANSPARANT ORANGE color vinyl variant is available exclusively from Zavvi in the UK. Included with ALL versions is an insert containing exclusive and extensive liner notes by Giovanni Lombardo Radice, Roberto Donati and Robert Kerman.

THE BOOGEYMAN ‘Original 1980 Motion Picture Soundtrack’
One Way Static Records proudly presents: Ulli Lommel's 'THE BOOGEYMAN' (Original 1980 Motion Picture Soundtrack by TIM KROG & Synthe-Sound-Trax).
Ulli Lommel was a German writer, actor and director. In the sixties he took up roles in films by ‘Russ Meyer’ and ‘Rainer Werner Fassbinder’ which resulted in him both getting several nominations and winning awards. Later Lommel moved to the US in 1977 to work with Andy Warhol and to direct movies from the likes of ‘Cocaine Cowboys’ & ‘Blank Generation’. Since the mid-1980s, he directed several films, from drama to science fiction, but mostly horror. In his later years he became notorious for a long line of direct-to-video movies based on the lives of serial killers, ‘Son of Sam’ and ‘Zodiac Killer’ being the most well known.
In 1980 Lommel directed ‘THE BOOGEYMAN’ starring John Carradine, which became a ‘slasher genre’ hit and made the UK's banned ‘Video Nasties’ list. Two sequels were also produced in 1981 and 1983.
To underscore his film, Lommel needed a soundtrack that fitted the times like the synth based John Carpenter styled soundscapes used in Halloween. By the late seventies, electronic music had achieved new heights of popularity. Technological innovations such as the Mini-Moog became a weapon of choice for new composers, churning out chilling electronic music that showed the industry its full creative potential.
For this he turned to Tim Krog and his team ‘Synthe-Sound-Trax’ (SST for short) composed out of Jan Barlett and Ed Christiano. This trio produced a soundtrack far more progressive and unique than one might expect. Moving easily between traditional melodies and more experimental textures, The Boogeyman’s score is a superb example of an economical but highly effective scoring style that would be prevalent throughout the ensuing decades.
Available as a deluxe vinyl edition limited to 900 copies. 300 HAND-NUMBERED units on classic black vinyl (with obi strip), 300 HAND-NUMBERED color vinyl units (transparent purple) & 300 HAND-NUMBERED color vinyl units (highlighter yellow). Black vinyl will be available from record stores and online retailers worldwide on 8/10. The TRANSPARENT PURPLE color vinyl variant is available exclusively from Light In The Attic & Mondo in North America and through Transmission in Europe. The HIGHLIGHTER YELLOW color vinyl variant is available exclusively from Zavvi in the UK. All versions also come with an insert containing extensive and exclusive liner notes by Charlie Brigden, J.A. Kerswell & the late Ulli Lommel himself.

POPCORN (ORIGINAL 1991 MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK BY PAUL ZAZA) LP (STRANGE DISC RECORDS)
Strange Disc proudly presents, for the first time on any format : the original soundtrack to POPCORN (1991).
This ‘horror-fan-favorite’ was directed & written by ‘Alan Ormsby’ (Deranged, Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things, Cat People) and produced by veteran ‘Bob Clark’ responsible for iconic films such as Black Christmas (1974). POPCORN stars scream-queens Dee Wallace (The Hills Have Eyes), Jill Schoelen (The Stepfather) and Kelly Jo Minter (The People Under The Stairs).
The film took inspiration from the rich history of the horror-iniverse (from the 1950s onwards) and is both self-reflective as it is postmodern. POPCORN uses the ‘films-within-a film’ theme an pays homage to horror’s long low-buget tradition. Released in theaters in 1991, it has gained a large cult-following since its release.
The sublime soundtrack was composed & performed by ‘PAUL ZAZA’ who was responsible for scoring many horror-classics such as Prom Night (1980) & My Bloody Valentine (1981)…and of course that huge hit movie we all know: Porky’s. POPCORN was entirely shot in Jamaica, so on some tracks you can definitely sense the ‘island flavor’ slipping into Paul’s eerie trademark sound.
Now, for the FIRST TIME ON VINYL (or on any format) Strange Disc record presents a deluxe limited vinyl edition that also comes with a double-sided insert containing exclusive liner notes by Paul Zaza & Kristy Jett.
Supervised and produced by composer Paul Zaza himself, this release is available as a classic black vinyl edition (250 copies) & as a color vinyl variant (300 copies Popcorn Swirl Vinyl).
