Enjoy Upthere for the both of us
TW - panic, separation, mention of death.
“M-man, it's strange being back in the Underwhere after so long. Sure brings back memories, eh bro?” the green capped man lightly nudged his distracted brother and gave him a weak smile.
It was really strange. They knew their time was limited, they dreaded it as time grew near, but now that death had ironically taken them both at the same time they weren't as scared. The knowledge of where they were to end up and that they would still be together must have helped ease their nerves, plus they were thankful that their passings were calm and peaceful.
The brothers held hands as they walked down the hall and passed D-men who barely spared them a glance to get to the queen of this realm. Queen Jaydes. She stood tall as she patiently watched them approach her and give her respectful bows.
“My condolences, Mario and Luigi.”
“We hope you and Grambi have been well, Jaydes” Mario politely said after rising back up to look up at her.
“We are and it is thanks to you two and your friends that we are allowed to continue doing so. We also thank you for not letting our daughter's sacrifice be in vain” the queen responded, giving the two a small smile of gratitude.
Mario offered his own smile but it wavered a bit. He took a deep breath and asked her, “Do you perhaps know how Peach has been? I hope she is being treated well in the Upthere. I really miss her…”.
Peach's passing hadn't been easy for anyone in the kingdom, especially Mario. He missed her more and more each day he lived and though he may not be able to join her in the afterlife, he hoped her spirit was happy as a Nimbi.
“She's doing well, last I heard from Grambi. She really misses you.” answered Jaydes, receiving a thank you nod from Mario.
“Now, we must delay no further. Your judgements shall be revealed” announced the queen of the Underwhere, taking a bit of time to go over their actions and deeds in life.
Mario held Luigi's hand tightly and shut his eyes as he waited. He really wanted to enjoy Upthere with Peach and Luigi, but he wasn't going to hold his breath. Sure, the two had saved countless lives and suffered many dangers during their adventures but that could not lessen their crimes. They had ended up here when they fought Count Bleck back then, unlike Peach, and they could not deny their fates. At least he still had Luigi with him. Nothing could harm them as long as they're together.
Finally, Queen Jaydes gave her judgement. “Fate has smiled upon you, Mario. Peach will be delighted to hear the news of your arrival to Upthere”.
He opened his eyes and stared at her in utter shock. Was this…was this true? Was he truly going to the Upthere? Was he going to see Peach again? He couldn't believe it.
He laughed happily and thanked Jaydes profusely, turning to Luigi and grabbing his shoulders in pure joy.
“D-did you hear that Lu?! We're going to the Upthere! We're all going to be together again! We'll be Nimbis like Peach and live on clouds! Isn't that amazing?!”
Luigi didn't show the same excitement as Mario did, only giving him a small smile. It was a happy smile, of course, but it was also sad. This confused Mario and brought his own excitement down.
“Luigi? Hey, what's wrong? Aren't you excited?” Mario asked his younger twin softly, growing more confused when Luigi took a step away from him.
“Tell Peach I said hi when you get there, ok bro…?” was all Luigi said.
It finally clicked at that moment. Jaydes had only said Mario's name, not both of their names. But why?! He had done as many crimes so why was only Luigi getting the short end of the stick?!
“What's going on? Why can't you come along?! How is this fair?!” Mario asked in a panic, looking between Luigi and Jaydes for an explanation which the queen provided.
“Your brother really loves you, Mario. He was adamant that you deserved to be in a better place than this. He made a deal with me to ensure your place in the Upthere while he stays here in the Underwhere with me”, explained Jaydes.
“Don't worry, bro, I'll be fine. Besides, I'm glad I can still be useful by helping Jaydes with the roudier souls…” Luigi tried to calm Mario's rising panic.
Mario was not willing to listen, “Have you lost your mind?! Do you have any idea who you will be stuck here with all alone?! You can't do this! End the deal, I'm not going anywhere without you!” shouted Mario.
This declare was taken as a sign that the D-men would need to step in, getting ahold of Mario and started dragging him away to the gates of the Upthere. Mario struggled against them and demanded they let him go, pleading with Luigi to not leave him and begging for Jaydes to not do this.
All Jaydes did was bow her head in guilt as Luigi tried to keep a smile on his face despite the tears running down his face. Mario could feel feathery wings form on his back the closer he was dragged to the gates but his focus was on his brother and his transformation into a Shayde. He started crying, his begging growing louder and more desperate as struggled against the D-men and reached out towards Luigi.
“Enjoy Upthere for the both of us, bro. I love you…” Luigi softly said, his voice quivering from trying to keep his sobs in.
The gates opened and Mario was forcefully thrown past them.
“LUIGI!!!”

Clara
Clara wasn't born, she was created by the Dark Stone while it was used by Antasma. Antasma had made a wish for a living being that was as powerful as the stone itself, intending to use said creation as a prototype to his own army to take over the world. However, the stone gave him a baby girl, which very much upset him since it wasn't at all what he wanted and so he left her as he didn't have a use for a baby.
She ended up being petrified along with the Pi'illos upon Antasma's imprisonment and continued to stay petrified even after the Pi'illos were freed because she wasn't found and no one even knew of her existence.
Her petrification was an act made by the Dark Stone intentionally so she would survive until she was found and rescued from her abandonment, the stone had given her a large chunk of its power to her and it didn't want that chunk to die and be wasted.
Luigi ended up finding her petrified form by following the instincts the Nightmare Chunks activated in his head, freeing her. He was mortified when he freed her since he hadn't realized she was alive and immediately took her in.
He took her back home with him and gave her the name Clara. With the help of his family, he provided her with all the baby necessities and took as many notes as he could from Dreambert and Eldream about dream bats, wanting to provide for her the best he could despite knowing so little of her kind.
Clara was raised like a normal, happy little girl alongside Alisha, who was most ecstatic to have a little sister she could actually love. The locals give her permission to munch on their dreams freely, especially the elders who adored her since she was a baby and took naps regularly. This helped her a lot and kept her at top health.
When she got older, she took up playing the flute as she liked how beautiful and calming it sounded. Later on, she took up the hobby of dreamcatchers and light catchers. She liked using different coloured threads to create differently designed dreamcatchers that could potential help with her dad's bad dreams. She loved creating light catchers since she loved how shiny it looked and how the colours bled out into the room, even more so when she could use gems and see-through beads to decorate it.
While she loves eating the local fruits of the Mushroom Kingdom, she loves nothing more when her dad takes trips to his own world once a year or so and brings home the fruit called mandarins, jumping all over the place excitedly and asking for them the second he opens the door when he returns with them.
She can turn into a bat at will and turn her legs into a flowy, ghostly tail but she prefers to have legs since everyone else has them and she can wear pretty shoes with them.
She wears glasses due to her bad eyesight but she doesn't mind, although she switches them with eye contacts when she's of age.
She knows of how she came to be from her own memories from when she was created and who she is regarding the Dark Stone and Antasma but she hardly cares. Luigi, Dreambert and Eldream helped her train her powers so they don't go rogue all of a sudden and she doesn't consider Antasma as anything to her, not even her creator. Why should she? Luigi stepped up and gave her all she needed and more, so she wants nothing to do with Antasma.
I'm not use if she can be considered Antasma's biological daughter since the only thing connecting them in what they share from the Dark Stone. Blood has nothing to do with their connection or anything.

Alisha
TW: mention of death, mention of abuse, mention of homicide
Alisha was born way before the bros, still in the Mushroom World but in a more secluded area where only humans lived.
She did not live a good life, which led to the homicide of her biological family and her death by a rope.
Due to the amount of hatred and need for revenge she felt, her spirit took over the mansion she was trapped in her whole life and trapped the souls of her family in it to force them to do her bidding and suffer for their crimes and wrongs against her.
This led to many other fools who thought they could wonder in her mansion and leave alive, all dying in agony at her hands.
King Boo ended up finding her after his many defeats against Luigi and took a liking to her powers and festering hatred, offering her to work with him in exchange for greater power. She agreed on it.
Luigi was sent to her mansion by E-Gadd who caught her ghost activity and she unleashed hell on him, using all the trapped souls to scared and hurt him. She made sure he wasn't killed, wanting to have that honour.
However, as Luigi went through the mansion, he found notes, diaries and other clues, learning the history behind this mess and in addition, her own. He felt awful for her, realizing that even now when she had full control, she was suffering.
When he reached the end and battled her, he tried to calm her down and help her but she wouldn't listen. She thought he was trying to trick her so he could escape with his life, why would she be given what she couldn't have in life? Especially now after all she's been through, after all she has done to end up this way?
When she finally had the chance to end him. She couldn't. Her knife wouldn't touch him. Her hand wouldn't move. No matter how much she screamed, she raged and cried and accused him of using foul magic, she couldn't kill him. The scared and broken child she tried to protect with rage and wrath was full displayed to Luigi and she couldn't hide it again.
Luigi only hugged her and lulled her to sleep.
He took her home that day and refused to let E-Gadd tell him otherwise. He had made up his mind and was determined to give Alisha what she should have had all along.
This is how she became his first adopted daughter and she would forever be grateful for being found and taken in by him.
It took awhile for her to learn to live a normal life or get murderous with others that tried to test her patience but Luigi didn't give up on her.
She learned how to truly be happy, found out what things she liked, what hobbies worked for her and how to be who she wanted to be.
She now joins Luigi when he goes to haunted places, helping him progress when stuck and fight off boos and hostile ghosts.

Daisy: if these two met as children, Daisy would be the first to initiate conversation and try to get Luigi to come out of his shell and play. Luigi would be extremely shy but with a bit of encouragement he'd come out and be friends with Daisy. These two would be great friends and spend a lot of time together, drawing, playing sports, etc. A strong friendship that will come to last for years.
Peasley: if these two met at a young age, I feel like Luigi would end up being more confident in himself thanked to Peasley's encouragement and support, especially if Mario followed suit to it. It wouldn't be a drastic change but a noticeable change. Luigi would also be a good support system to Peasley when his royal duties start to become a bit too much or when he starts doubting himself, especially in their teenage years when they can feel the most emotional.
Dreambert: if they met young then it would be before Antasma came into the picture. These two would find solitude in each others calm demeanors and friendly attitudes. If Dreambert offered to show Luigi the dream world or enter Luigi's dreams for a surreal adventure, they might have ended up tapping into Luigi's dream powers a lot sooner and they would have helped train him to use them better. Eldream would be able to help with this too since Snoozemore wouldn't have been in the picture either and Eldream is a trusted friend of the royal Pi'illo family with a lot of old knowledge about dreams.
Bowser: I mean, canonically these two did meet when they were young, Luigi being a newborn but the meeting wasn't all that great. It even got worse when baby Mario and Yoshi showed up. Plus, baby Bowser is spoiled rotten by Kamek and was shaped into the beast the Mushroom Kingdom now fears so I don't think there would have been a chance of a friendship with them.
King Boo: King Boo was probably around way before the bros were born so he'd still be an adult when Luigi is a child, but he'd still have his normal red gem instead of the purple one on his crown so he wouldn't be all that insane. Even if we make a version where King Boo is still a normal, common boo, his main goal when meeting Luigi would be to scare him to tears, especially when Luigi is an easy target to be frightened. However, when the bros become the heroes of the MK and King Boo kidnaps Mario, he might remember them, faintly since then he'd only see them as nameless victims to scare. He might remember Luigi a bit more from being a favourite so he'd be surprised at how he can push forward despite how scared he still is. Pretty sure the boos would have given him early trauma from that so it'd be a lot harder on Luigi.
Antasma: for Antasma, I'll stick to Luigi being Dreambert's friend and they both found Antasma as a bat and took him in. He'd get attached to both children due to their care and kindness towards him. You didn't hear this from me but he is closer with Luigi since he sneaks him extra sweets and has the best dreams to munch on. When he turned evil and took the Dark Stone he tried to get Luigi to join him but he obviously refused and it made Antasma have a festering hatred of betrayal much like with Dreambert. Luigi was forced by Dreambert to escape before Antasma was imprisoned since Dreambert didn't want him to be targeted and so he wasn't aware of the petrification of the Pi'illos, only that Antasma didn't intent to go down alone.
Dimentio: We can't even confirm his past, how can we confirm he was ever a child? Technically, my new AU fits with this scenario but might as well come up with another. Unless Dimentio was aware Luigi would be the Man in Green of the Prophecy, I doubt he would even care. If he did know, however, he may be the reason Luigi is still alive after everything he's been through before the events of SPM happened. He would monitor Luigi whenever the Count didn't have need of him for a mission or task and he would keep an eye on how he faired as a child, which he could then use to manipulate him with in the future.

ISTAAAA!!
Been a while since I offered a Bowuigi AU idea! Buckle up, this one is going to be rough 😈
It all starts with a typical, run of the mill battle of the Bros against another villain on the outskirts of the Mushroom Kingdom. For once Bowser is on their side. Well, sort of, he wants the same thing as the villain and won't take no for an answer. All in all, your usual boss battle.
Until it's not.
Something goes wrong wrong wrong, the villain triggers something, a huge explosion is about to happen, Mario grabs Luigi's hand and flings him away to safety right before everything goes KABOOM!!
All goes dark for Mario.
When he wakes up, he's stuck under rubble and it takes him hours to get out. Outside, everything is...different. The battlefield was barren and scorched when he last left, now it's lush and green in the bright sun. There is no one around.
Whatever, Mario thinks, the priority is to make it back to the MK castle. But it's easier said than done; the bridge he wanted to take is broken, the usual warp pipes don't work...
He comes across some Shy Guys at some point and instead of attacking him, they shriek and run. Mario follows them, and that leads him to one of Bowser's floating fortresses. On Mushroom Kingdom territory.
More and more worried about Peach or Luigi being prisonners,Mario manages to sneak inside and starts looking for his friends.
That's when he comes across Bowser.
Who looks a lot rougher than the last time he saw him. But what's surprising is how flabbergasted Bowser looks at his sight, before turning absolutely furious and charging, attacking Mario with a rage and desperation he's rarely witnessed, roaring "LEAVE US ALONE !!!".
Mario fights, and although he's not in top shape, manages to land some big blows on Bowser, and even gets him into a position where he can jump on him and deal a serious attack as Bowser is laying on the ground.
But right before his foot can connect, a blast of lightning intercepts Mario and sends him flying.
"Get away from my husband, bastardo!!!"
That voice...Mario looks up, and, standing defensively in front of Bowser, fists cracking with lightning...
"Luigi??"
"...Mario ??"
Bowser gets back up and immediately scoops up Luigi:
"You know it's not him! You know it's happened before! Stop falling for the tricks of that...thing !"
And before Mario can react, Koopa Troopas pile on him and manage to overcome him.
Once he's locked away and everyone has calmed down, he progressively learns the following facts:
It's been years since the battle.
He's been dead. Not missing : dead. His body, or what was left of it, was buried by Luigi and Peach in the aftermath of the battle.
Everyone in the Mushroom kingdom was heartbroken, of course, especially Luigi and Peach, but Bowser was more affected than everyone expected by his archnemesis' death. To the point he fell into a deep depression and started neglecting his kingdom.
King Boo saw an opportunity and turned on him, attacking the Darklands and capturing Bowser and his family. Luigi, initially looking for missing Toads, accidentally came to Bowser's rescue.
That was when the first impostor came along. Right after King Boo was defeated, something vaguely shaped like Mario with red eyes showed up and attacked them both. Bowser and Luigi, reacting on instinct, protected each other. Luigi was in a deep state of shock afterwards, to the point Bowser, himself deeply shaken, kept him and nursed him back to health.
Luigi stayed in the Darklands for some months after that. They started bonding. Luigi was angry at Bowser, of course, but he took being in their enemy's care as his punishment. He couldn't stay at the Mushroom castle, feeling guilty and ashamed whenever he was around Peach, and unable to talk about his brother with her. Bowser was the closest persn to Mario aside from Peach and himself, and they started having long discussions about his brother. Then it moved to other subjects. Then Bowser started showing a different side of him, one that gave Luigi the comfort he deeply needed. Then Junior grew attached to Luigi.
When they started dating, another Mario clone showed up. Still a poor imitation, but just a bit more similar to the original. They defeated him, but it burned away and they couldn't gather enough information to know where to look.
It showed up again. And again. Each time Luigi and Bowser grew closer, another Mario clone would show up out of nowhere to attack them. And each clone was closer to the original than the previous one.
The one who attacked when peace was signed before the Darklands and the MK had a normal human skin (instead of a dark metallic one).
The one who attacked when Luigi officially moved to the Darklands had blue eyes.
The one who attacked on their wedding day could speak.
Luigi was now scared of that new threat showing up. And yet he was sure this one wasn't just a clone, this was the real Mario! Somehow back from the dead!
...Right ?
That was what Mario learned.
But what he concludes is this : Bowser must be behind all this. He has magicians who dabbled in necromancy, he has cloning magic, he would be able to do this. Mario didn't understand why Bowser pretended to love Luigi instead of Peach, but he was convinced all of this relationship was some kind of ploy to get revenge on Mario and use Luigi. And Luigi had to be under some influence to love and trust Bowser. It had to be. It couldn't be otherwise!
....Right?

Is Bowser sincere in his sentiments for Luigi? Has he been using him since the beginning? Is Mario the real Mario or the most advanced version of these evil clones? Who is right? Who is wrong?

I felt tender for Luigi's adopted daughters, they look like little monsters but they just need love and care.

Liliana, my cat have the same name (lol)
Clara was found by Luigi as a baby so she was raised like a normal, happy little girl. Alisha is a whole other situation that will be explained later. All I'll say, it wasn't pretty.
I didn't draw Liliana with water colours, she was done with Crayola knock-off markers and a bit of coloured pencils to try and make the top part, where the vines are, to look like the texture of tights (which I failed at miserable. It least it looks cool).
Liliana lives in a lake near a small town and she has put the fear of constant death in the residents. She drags underwater anyone foolish enough to wonder too close to her lake, which is mostly tourists the town welcomes in so they can save their own for a little bit longer. She drowns her victims and feeds on their nutrients, if the town ever tries to call for help, act against her or defy her, she'll threaten to flood the town and drown them all at once.
