content warning: excited disabled person rambling/light hearted
i've recently started watching criminal minds - and by that i mean i watched 5 seasons in like a week - and i need to talk about season 5 reid
because what do you mean mgg (reid's actor) had a knee injury and needed a cane and they wrote it in? what do you mean they were super nice and normal about it? what does it say that this is honestly one of my favorite disability representation in a show? (excluding shows that are made specifically around disability, which will obviously always be top tier)
there's something so beautiful about seeing a character clearly fitted for the actor, and therefore being realistic. reid uses crutches and a brace for a long time, then switches to a cane, eventually switches to no aids. the mentions to the aids are minimal, only when it would logically come up in conversation. when he uses the cane, he can stand up and kinda walk without it but still in fact has it. everyone ever so casually gathers around him when he's sitting down and he adapts everyday activities as well, with no comment from anyone.
i know this post doesn't make sense and i don't care but i'm just honestly so overfilled with joy at seeing the most casual disability representation, specially considering this season is from 2009 like aaaaaa/positive

I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but intrusive thoughts are basically your brain’s (sometimes very upsetting) way of saying “If there were two guys on the moon and one of them killed the other with a rock would that be fucked up or what?”
I’ve personally found that adding the “would that be fucked or what?” part in myself really helps put the more disturbing thoughts we sometimes get into perspective. Helps me say “yeah thar sure would be fucked up” and move on with my day.
It’s not a secret desire, it’s not something that only occurs to you because you’re a bad person. It’s just your brain deciding to process the fact that it knows an uncomfortable thing exists in the world by feeding it to you in an absurd “what if” with you as the main character.

Why will the trans community as a whole never actually learn about intersex history and intersex current issues? Why are we so heavily erased and stepped on and talked over even by yall? It's fucking exhausting living in a world that wants to crush you out of existence to the point that intersex people are why yall even have access to a lot of the procedures you do but then divide the world as cis vs trans, tme vs tma, masc vs femme, binary binary binary that we dont exist in, and never ever acknowledge that you are a perisex person participating in the erasure and oppression of intersex people. You are not immune to hurting us just bc you're trans. We are not a safe or privileged group over trans people. Yall won't even acknowledge us, how do you think mainstream society treats us? The same as it treats you! But it doesn't matter AT ALL to literally the majority of you! Why! Lmfao!!! I feel so fuckjng insane every day bc of this!

thinking about my friend
my cis queer friend who, despite being almost exclusively surrounded by other queers, despite having a friend group made up of 50% trans people, despite putting pronouns in the name cards for her birthday party, still referred to Tao and Elle from heartstopper (a cis boy x trans girl ship) as a "technically straight couple"
and don't get me wrong: she corrected herself, she apologized, she recognized that was a stupid thing to say by herself and quickly; this is not a callout post
it's just a comment: on how you can never really unlearn that kind of bias. Transphobia is ingrained into us from the moment we're born, every single piece of media and institution is built on it. never assume you're free from it

I was chatting with a blind girl today (as disabled people do when they're sat next to each other on the bus) and I suddenly realized how truly horrifying the concept of an internet blackout would be
yes, we're all super dependent on it for news and our day to day life but for some people, an internet blackout would mean to be completely stripped from their independence
like this girl is able to get anywhere by herself, without any help from seeing people, because she can use her GPS with text to speech
if she doesn't have that resource she'll have to go back to asking the bus driver, or people around her for directions. and subsequently trust these people to 1) be nice 2) be correct
I dunno. I don't really expect anyone to take anything from this post, maybe just encouragement to keep thinking of different ways the disabled people around you are always fighting for access. this is just kind of a thought dump.

if ur disabled and you smoke cigarettes or weed or vape or drink or whatever you're not a bad person. i feel like a horrible person for having vices but im fucking human, going through more shit than most people and what i do to get by doesn't and should not define me. it doesnt define you either. give yourself a break, you deserve it.

you have to lean on them differently than a cane tho. with a cane you usually favor a side and kind hunch over it a bit. when you're using two crutches you have to evenly distribute your weight on them. don't get me wrong, it's really hard and will take practice. but thinking of then as two canes will just mess with your head.
what really helped me start to understand how to hold onto them was to try a swing-through gait, where all your weight has to be on then for a second. it can help you start to tune into the crutches as an extension of your body. also remember that if you're using an alternating gait, they should be in tandem with their opposite leg. so right leg moves, left crutch moves, etc.
if you have tiktok i recommend looking for videos of forearm crutch users on there. it helped me!! and good luck!!
bought forearm crutches. i have no idea how people use them it's so difficult??? they should provide more support than a cane but i can't take a step without overthinking my every move-

"But why do you let your disability stop you?" Because that's.... what disabilities... do. That's... literally the basic definition... of being disabled... A disability impairs your ability to function. That's what the term means. That's the main thing

Hey! I think you're really cool. Especially for the post you made about bodily autonomy.
I still don't understand it completely, but that's ok! If you could answer genuine questions that are kind of dumb, pls tell me! If not, have a nice day!
Also, are you ok with sfw agree accounts/therian accounts following you? And what's your opinion on them?
absolutely!! I think agere and therianism fit into that post as well. Literally who caree how others perceive and live their bodies. Coping mechanisms are coping mechanisms. Personal identity is personal identity. It doesn't harm you so why do you give a shit (/not at you obviously)
I am open to questions but I may not answer them or take a while because my brain has been scrambled eggs lately :3

pwNPD Survey!
I’ve created a survey to collect the experiences of pwNPD, this will be used to educate others on NPD as a whole, and be an accurate and broad resource for others who are learning abt NPD for any reason. (Questioning if you have it, just wanting to learn, educating family/friends, etc). (As most resources are very ableist towards pwNPD).
This data will be presented in the form of a document! It will be posted here when finished.
All responses are 100% anonymous, I don’t even know who says what because this survey doesn’t collect emails or any identifying information!
This survey is for pwNPD, which includes self diagnosed, professionally diagnosed, questioning, and people with NPD traits!
Link to the form above :)
Please share, reblog, respost, etc!! I’d love to have as many responses as possible! :3
This survey will be open indefinitely, as I want to gather as much data as possible and update the document as needed when it’s created.
