I’ve been thinking about an Urban Exploration type of Storyline for these two.
Ryan and Kaitlyn who have been friends for a long while, but didn’t meet in the Hackett’s Quarry Summer Camp. In fact neither of them ever went. Instead they’ve been killing time on free days with exploring abandoned places in their state, both rather just curious about what has been left in ruins instead of believing they might find some supernatural shit.
They always go together, but they don’t tell anyone else that they’re doing this, since, y’know, it’s not a very legal hobby to have. And they’re surprised with how many abandoned places there are. Ruins, sure. Fully intact houses? Whoa. Entirely emptied hospitals, schools and factories? Less whoa, more oh.. creepy moments were kind of what expected them especially in these places. Finding stuff like untouched medical equipment, old pictures or paintings, and Graffiti over the walls was nowhere near actual blood streaks, satanic looking symbols on the ceilings or disturbed Squatters.
But they never ever tripped an alarm, and that was easily Kaitlyns pride talking, whenever she joked about how the cops wouldn’t even know they were here in the first place. Both her and Ryan were very strict on their deal with the police, aka, they’d do anything to avoid them. Tripping an alarm was just not an option for people like them in a place like this. So, no matter what, the cops won’t find out.
Except who will then, when they find something they truly shouldn’t deal with alone?

an angsty 'what if for today 🔊
The first night after the failed events of The Quarry, Ryan found Dylan sitting alone by the lake. Dylan, who still had both hands, whose bite was healing, and who remained infected. And he felt guilty for what he'd done. He could never fault Ryan for his moral compass, but only himself, for loosing control.
But Ryan knew he was to blame. It wasn't Dylans fault, after all, he'd told him to cut his hand off. If Ryan had just done it, none of this would have happened. If he’d just listened, they would be alright.. right?

Dylan is the only one who can break through Ryan's stern mask, and he helps him to loosen up, forget about his hard life and practice a bit of optimism.
At least for as long as they're with each other..
Since they're often separated, Dylan gifted his favourite hoodie to Ryan, as a reminder that they'd see each other soon again. Gladly Ryan isn't allergic to cat fur, since Schrödinger likes to make sure he's remembered as well :)

Ryan and Dylan have a noticeable size difference in the game
(as in, Dylans a damn block. If he fixed his posture, and they’d be standing in front of each other, Ryan would be staring straight at Dylans Adams apple.)
which gave me the lovely wonder about how Dylans oversized comfort hoodie would look on Ryan. Since they can’t be together 24/7 after these horrid events, Dylan decided to gift his hoodie to Ryan, to make sure a piece of him stays to comfort him while they’re apart <3

In The Quarry, we never get to see what happens to the boys after full moon.. While Dylan seems to process the shock of losing his hand well, since he practically gets over it immediately (even after the shock), Ryan never really gets a chance to stop and think about whats going on, let alone himself.
So I imagine that he struggled heavily with the trauma after they returned home, and didn't know how to deal with it. Therefore Dylan stayed with him, and made sure that he knows they’re okay now.
The boys also inspired Windhauch on Ao3 to write a beautiful little story about Ryans first time of getting help to heal :,) It's called ‘Rising moon and feelings’, I read it and I’ve been obsessed! Please check it out below ❤️🩹
