All about confidence!- A fergutrent oneshot
"Oh! You're hot baby!" Zoe exclaims to her hedgehog friend in order to encourage him.
Russell stops for a moment and turns to her with a sheepish expression.
"Do you really think i'm... hot?"
The purple dog was silent for a moment before responding.
“Oh, darling, that’s just an expression. But look at you!” Zoe puts her paws on Russell's shoulders and turns him to face the mirror. “The way a person behaves can say a lot about them, making them more or less attractive. It’s all about confidence!” She says, making space for her friend to admire the view of himself, without realizing that his gaze was actually directed towards her through it.
“Hm, if you say so… It must be easy for you, I mean, you’ve always looked good.” He tried not to register the way her eyes lit up as he said that.
“But looks aren’t everything, darling! Not to mention that you have several other qualities.” She said approaching the hedgehog again.
“I know, but none of them are very useful for the thing I have to do!” He said frustrated with himself. Why didn't they just choose another pet to be the model for the collection?! Vinnie would love all this attention and cameras, Pepper is already used to an audience, and Zoe is literally a pro at modeling. She would be perfect for the activity, and not just because she's pretty and-
"I disagree!"
“Huh?” Russell's train of thoughts were interrupted by the little dog.
“Who of us is the most organized and makes sure no one feels left out?”
“Um… me?”
“And who is by far the smartest and comes up with the most efficient plans to help others?”
“Me…” Russell couldn’t help but feel his cheeks heat up a little. He never thought Zoe could recognize these qualities in him.
"Exactly! It takes some sort of self-confidence to do what you do, you have it in yourself, you just need to show it to the cameras!”
“Hah, I see. Acting as if I'm the best person in the world, and that no one is better suited to this job than me!” He said with an ironic tone.
"That's right!"
"Just like you?"
“That’s right- hey!” Zoe exclaimed offended, although deep down she understood where he was coming from with that argument. It's not like she doesn't still feel a little jealous about not being chosen as the model.
But this wasn't about her. As much as she didn't want to admit it, Zoe knew he had potential. Beside appearance, Russell had charisma! Another thing that can also make someone attractive, and she knows very well how powerful this combo of qualities can be. What she didn't expect was that Russell wouldn't have realized it. Which was adorable in her opinion.
“I’m just kidding!” He said between laughs. “In fact, I actually have to thank you for all the help, having one of the best professionals to guide me as a model is an honor!”
“You’re welcome, darling. And honestly, you are the perfect choice to take these photos.” Zoe said as she touched her index finger to her friend's nose.
Without realizing it, the two were staring at each other, waiting for a specific next move, but it never arrived. Which resulted in some awkward laughter, none of them really knowing how to continue the conversation.
Russell admired the cyan of Zoe's eyes and how they stood out against the purple fur on her face! That she had always been attractive, that was a known fact, but at that moment there was something different. Maybe the way she was smiling at him, or the fact that she said those sweet things making him feel more confident. Whatever strategy she was using, it was working.
On the other hand, Zoe wondered why she couldn't look away from her friend. She's always been attracted to pretty things, but that wasn't quite the case with Russell, at least not until now. It seems that the tips she gave really worked, when the hedgehog shows more confidence in himself, it's like she's seeing him shine in a new light that she's never seen before. This was beautiful, it was amazing, it was… hot. ‘Wait, what?’
“Okay Russell, let's go. Are you ready?" Blythe approached the two pets holding the clothes he's gonna use for the set.
Russell hesitated for a moment, but gained courage and headed towards the human. "Let's do it!"
"Good luck." Zoe said as she sees her friend leaving. He turned to her with a genuine smile.
“I won’t need it, I’m confident of it!” he winked her as he said and left.

Thinking about Cupchal as young adults that can't admit they're in love.
Well more like Cuphead can't admit he's in love with Chalice. I've always seen Cuphead being very distant from the thought of being in love and very awkward about his feelings, especially when it comes to Ms. Chalice. He'd always stop himself whenever he got to close to Ms. Chalice, he'd always bite his tongue whenever he wanted to say something to her that would come across as weird or creepy to others.
I think this would disappoint Ms. Chalice the more it happened. Like, she'd be waiting for him to hug or kiss her and Cuphead would just scoot away from her! Like what? She would try and get him to repeat things or say something that he held back from saying, but Cuphead would refuse each time.
When they all got older and Ms. Chalice got into a relationship in highschool, Cuphead couldn't be more jealous. He couldn't be worse at hiding it. Cuphead would always give Chalice's boyfriend dirty looks whenever he'd touch her infront of him, or give him a hard time when he wasn't with Ms. Chalice.
Chalice has been trying for years to get Cuphead to admit his feelings for her, but was never successful. However, this time was going to be different. She knew that Cuphead seeing his placeholder next to her filled by some square would get him to tell her how he's felt for years and maybe put a stop to this painfully fake affection. (Chalice, you smart girl, you. You know Cuphead so well)
The night Cuphead finally confessed was at thier junior year prom, when he decided he had enough of Ms. Chalice's boyfriend getting too close to her. He went on the dance floor and separated Ms. Chalice from her boyfriend and took her outside. Chalice was angry, she was having a good time and Cuphead decided to embarrass her. For good reason though, outside she was reprimanded for teasing him all this time, but the argument became an apology from him about not showing her his feelings.
