Oh shit it's the site of Melanie Martinez' new music video
You stumble upon an abandoned carnival, taken back by nature. The power switch is rusted to the “on” and everything appears burnt out. As you wander throughout the abandoned land, lights begin to slowly flicker to life until everything is lit up again. With a lurch, the rides screech back to life, music playing slowly. All around you a cackle joins the dark chorus.

This is some Lemony Snicket shit right here
You’ve lived your entire life being good, respectful, in short, a gentleman (or gentlewoman). Your whole life feels incredible, with sometimes problems sprinkling here and there for you to mature or add to your perception of life. However, one day you find a man in a parachute landing in your backyard, with a poster that reads ‘It’s an experiment’, and hands you a napkin with something written on it before promptly being taken away. The napkin reads ‘You are our savior, the chosen one’.

DELTARUNE THEORY
So y'all know at the end of the genocide ruete when Chara say something like "let's destroy this pointless world and move on to the next" ???? Well Deltarune seems to be set in another reality or something, like all the relationships are different and it's just fucked up?! Right!? Well what if Deltarune is one of the other worlds Chara was talking about? An anagram so to say, seeing that it's like the first game but...different. Mixed up. Alternate.

Thumbnailing
I was asked a question about what size canvas I use, and it got me thinking about thumbnailing, too. It is so important to thumbnail, and if you don’t, you might just want to give it a try! I usually open a huge canvas, zoom in and draw tiny boxes, and then draw within those boxes or rectangles. I actually have examples, because I’m working on something right now!
Tumblr media
I probably could have worked even smaller on my thumbnails, but I managed to remind myself not to get TOO in detail. It’s really easy to become focused on small things, opposed to the over all picture and mood, but I think this really illustrates the importance of it. It didn’t matter if it was nice, or polished. I was simply trying to lay things out so that I could figure out what would be the nicest composition and present the best moods and interactions. My first two tries were alright, and if I had started drawing at full size I probably would have committed to my first drawing, because I would have had nothing to compare it to in the first place. It wouldn’t have been bad, but it obviously could be better, and that shows with the last two thumbnails I believe! It really gets the juices going, too! I probably could have done a few more thumbnails, but I was overall satisfied with the last two. So, it is those two that I blew up a bit bigger. (Not full size yet!)
Tumblr media
And you can see I was still able to focus on the over all composition and not get bogged down with details. I can still make out the characters (Who belong to @hkasof by the way, check them out!), but still really analyze the composition itself as a whole!  Now I feel a little more confident that I’ll have less troubleshooting in the end, and I can blow them up to the full-size I intend for them to be, and start really cleaning them up! BASICALLY: Try thumbnailing before you overly commit yourself to something! You might like it and how it effects your work, and you’ll have more successes than failures out of the gate. At least if you’re anything like me!

"WHAT THE FUCK HAVE YOU DONE???" "You SAID you wanted her body so-" "I DIDN'T MEAN FOR YOU TO BRING ME HER LITERAL CORPSE!" The Demon rolled his eyes. "You should have been more specific," he grumbled, dropping the dismembered leg of the young woman's sweetheart, "I was only trying to do my job!" The woman pinched the bridge of her nose, "Marty, what do I keep telling you? You can't jut go around tearing limbs off people; it's just not socially acceptable here." She looked down at the mass of flesh that had once been her crush from work, "Come on, she sighed, "Help me hide the body.
Instead of having a guardian angel, you have a guardian Demon. His methods are often much more violent. But much more straightforward.

HELPFUL
Tips on drawing environments in comics
I’m by no means an expert on drawing comic environments, but I’ve been using a few specific methods to get them done which I’d like to share! These tips did pretty well on Twitter so I figured I might share them on Tumblr as well [example panels from my webcomic Shaderunners]:
Tumblr media
First, if you’re drawing backgrounds while using straight lines/a ruler and you’re struggling with your environments looking stiff, FREEHAND! It makes everything looks more natural, even if it’s not technically always “accurate”. Here’s a comparison (old/recent):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In general environments look more real the more “imperfect” they are, This isn’t a hard and fast rule of course, and I’m sure there’s cases where a stiff quality is HELPFUL to your story - so I think being aware of the difference in effect is key!
Second, for environments there’s a little trick I like to use, and this kinda depends on your style and how rough the place you’re drawing is, but I like to add little marks and dirt to the walls, the floor, everything. It makes things feel more real/lived in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Third, get SketchUp or a similar 3D modeling software. Drawing a comic is hard work and if you’re doing it alone some shortcuts will have to be taken - that is NOT to say that it’s cheating if you take them. It’s simply helpful.
Tumblr media
A thing I never see talked about is how 3D modeling is a SKILL, not a magic hack. I had to get BETTER at creating environments in SketchUp and incorporating them into the comic organically. Here’s an example of an old background done with the help of SketchUp above a recent one:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s No Need To Colour Everything. See how in the first pic below I coloured (er, you know) every object on the shelves? Waste of time - if anything it takes away focus from the characters. Nowadays when things are small, faraway or unimportant I let them blend into the background.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Similarly, in crowd scenes I used to draw every single person and detail, thinking that it would look impressive. The result was spending hours on a panel readers would look at for two seconds. Plus, after all that work it didn’t actually end up looking like that big a crowd.
Tumblr media
Compare that to crowd scenes I draw now – by no means perfect but I feel that leaving out details in the faraway figures makes the scene look fuller; it leaves room for the reader’s mind to fill in the gaps and imagine the crowd being bigger than is shown.
Tumblr media
And uhh that’s it? Basically this advice is mostly little tips that can be helpful, rather than a guideline/rule. Environments in comics (to me at least) are an efficiency game, and I’m constantly thinking of ways to be economical when I work on them while also having fun!
Tumblr media
Hopefully this was helpful to someone out there, and if you were intrigued by these panels you should check out my webcomic at @shaderunnerscomic!
