My headcanon is that Alastor grew out his hair to cover up his lack of human ears. And also because it made him look too meek.

okay, holy shit, Hazbin Hotel fandom you guys have to stop shipping the only AroAce character with literally everybody else. Like leave Alastor out of this, he isn't Allo, he is sex and romance repulsed, he literally implies/says in both the pilot and the show that he is not interested in sex or romance. Stop sexualizing an AroAce character, stop changing the meaning of "AroAce" just so you can ship him.
Yes, Aromantic and Arosexual are HUGE spectrums, but it is very clear that Alastor is not interested. It's okay for characters to stay friends, or stay enemies. You don't need to ship and sexualize every character ever.

Aroace "discourse" is fucking weird because if you can understand how an agender person (someone with no gender) is trans and queer, surely you can understand how an aromantic or asexual person is queer.

Queerness is not just about sex and romance. Since the concept of queer has been around, so have asexual and aromantic people. Lavender marriages, voluntary spinsters, vows of chastity used to cover a disinterest in sex. “Monosexuals”, “anesthesia sexual”, “anaphrodites”, category "X". Queer-platonic relationships, asexuality and aromanticism are an undeniable part of lgbtq+ history. Before there were any terms, any flags or acronyms, choosing to not conform to society’s romantic and sexual guidelines has been the very essence of queerness. The inherent queer experience of feeling alienated because you don’t love the “right” way or feel the right feelings for the right people, of trying to meet the expectations set for you while trying to build a life that doesn’t feel like a lie. These are all part of the aspec experience. We aren’t “invading” a space we don’t belong because it’s a trend, or an internet identity. We’re not “spicy straight”. We’re making ourselves known in a community we have always been a part of.

I know Alastor canonically doesn’t know there’s even a name for his lack of sexual/romantic attraction, but can you imagine how much of a menace this man would be if he knew about ace community memes?
Aroace puns at every possible opportunity. He doesn’t like cake, but garlic bread would suddenly become a staple in every meal he cooks for the hotel. Denmark would be absolutely fucked.

"but aces and aros can be in relationships"
Yes, I know that, but do YOU know that aces and aros in relationships are still aces and aros? Do you internalize that? Are you aware that we don't just suddenly turn straight, or gay or anything else?
Yes, even demis
Are you aware that a sex repulsed asexual will still be sex repulsed even in a relationship, and so, might never fuck you?
Are you aware that a romance repulsed aro will still be romance repulsed even in a seemingly normative relationship and might not like doing typical romantic gestures and activities?
Are you aware that a sex neutral or positive asexual might not actually be sexually attracted to you at all even if they do fuck you?
Are you aware that a romance neutral or positive aro might not actually be romantically into you even if they are comfortable with typical romantic gestures?
Are you aware that our identities are just as permanent as yours?

People using the “aroace people can date to” as an reason to ship alastor makes it seem like an excuse to feel good about themselves about erasing an characters aromantic and asexual orientation

"Aro/ace people can still date" is a statement about aro and ace people being able to do whatever they want with their lives, NOT an excuse to ignore a character's aromanticism and/or asexuality so you can ship them.

You know how I know media literacy is dead?
Because I know that in if in seasons 2 of Hazbin Hotel, Alastor looked at the camera directly and said "I am Aromantic Asexual, I have no attraction to anyone of any gender, sexual or otherwise. I will literally kill you if you try to hit on me." And people will still somehow say that it's not enough evidence.
Like why does Alastor have to say the words with his mouth for ya'll to believe it?? Ya'll are pretty confident that Angel Dust is gay and he's never said it directly (at least from my knowledge). Were none of ya'll taught context clues in school???
We really need to bring back the "why are the curtains blue" discussion...

Mhm. I've been out as ace since the early 2000s. But there's a reason why I've slipped so deep into internalized acephobia in the years between 2014-2018, that I not only went back into the closet, but was actively trying to "cure" myself of my asexuality. We were viciously hated against. And everything we did and had as part of our culture was labled as cringe. We were seen as fake, prudish, hateful, disgusting, offensive, etc. As if our existence alone was an affront to the world. I despised myself for being ace during that time. Especially as an ace that didn't want to be offensive, or homophobic or ableist. I knew my orientation wasn't any of that, but the acephobes were so loud and prevalent that I lost sleep over it.
And guess what? People who were previously unaware or on the fence about asexuality, saw the discourse and fell right into acephobic rhetoric. Like my family members. Who were already acephobic before, but got so much worse in their discrimination against me because of all the new discourse feeding their uneducated hatred.
We're still nowhere near accepted, included or welcomed by all queer spaces. But I'm so glad that the younger aces that came out more recently have at least a somewhat better place to exist. Even if we still have a heck of a fight ahead of us until we stop being a discourse topic.
I don't think younger/newer users fully grasp the shit show that ace discourse was around 2014-17
It was so hostile that, to this day, discussions that begin to derail just enough can make me physically nauseous, some specific mockery trigger crying sessions years later. We lost most accounts with any sort of ace positivity. There was no information, no support, and all this damage was done predominantly by other queer people.
All this to say that you, however you identify yourself, should be engaging with aphobic comments the same way you do any hate. We don't sugarcoat or try to be comprehensive with people who are blatantly racist, homophobic or terfs, so why give it a pass just because it's coming from a queer person? I see how this tolerance goes and it's done enough damage as it is.
