I’ve been getting my results back from my doctor about my tests for checking if I have rheumatoid arthritis and everything is normal… which like sucks but I’m also pretty sure I have a different type of arthritis. But I’m afraid my doctor will be like “you’re good, no further testing required!”
In other news, my finger has been hurting for like a week now…
Oh and the x-ray technician at the doctors office is leaving so we have to go to one further away which is hard since we don’t have a vehicle.
I just needed to rant.

So I talked to my doctor today and she scheduled me a blood test to see if I have any autoimmune diseases that is causing my joints to hurt. And I’m conflicted because I don’t want arthritis even though I suspect I have it… but I also want it to be arthritis because then I have a name for it and can start finding ways to treat it. I guess it’s more wanting a diagnosis cuz either way I’m gonna have the pain.

shower tips my fellow disabled friends
1. compression socks
I use ankle-high compression socks the second i get out to prevent blood pooling, it works great! It helps me stand on my own and avoid painful blood pooling while i dry off.
Tumblr media
2. Shower chair
These can come in many forms-- i use a small wooden stool that looks like this and fits in my bathtub:
Tumblr media
Some people have small tubs, and these types, though more comfortable, may not be possible. A shower stool like this may just be your solution:
Tumblr media
If you have a large enough shower and you need a back to stay upright, you can get one like this:
Tumblr media
3. Wall handles
You can of course install handles, screws and all. But Amazon offers these with strong suction cups that can be installed in seconds. I havent used them myself, but they look great!
Tumblr media
4. quick showers
You don't always need a fullbody shower to not be considered disgusting; dont be ashamed to only wash your hair, pits, face, and whatever other parts feel gross. You will be clean enough as long as water runs over your and your get the grossest matter off of you. All that is important is you feel clean.
5. mobility aids/seating
Having a cane post shower (even if you dont struggle enough to need a cane outside of showering) can be a lifesaver! Also, utilizing a chair in the bathroom can make a good place to dry off.
If you have any more tips, leave em in the replies!!!

Kind of an accommodation but it wasn’t intended for it, I have a rolling office chair in my kitchen. It’s so nice.
dear disabled people, how do you accommodate your home?
i have shower stool (my recent purchase and i'm so happy with it) and thinking about getting a tall chair (like ones they have at bars) for cooking/doing dishes

I just got a cane from goodwill for $3 and I use it sometimes. But here’s some tips if you need it!
[tagging as cane user even though I don’t use a cane full time so people can see it]
Ive had two people ask, so here ya go!
The Complete Guide to Buying Your First Cane!
Youve researched or spoken to a doctor, and decided you need a cane... but which one? Theres so many with different features! Lets get into it!
1. Handles
The handle was one of my main issues when first buying a cane. The most common handle I see on the market looks like this:
Tumblr media
These handles are the worst, from personal experience. Any grime, sweat, oils, etc from your hands will soak into it, and there is no way to wipe it off entirely. Its so gross, 0/10 do NOT reccomend.
The handle I use looks like this:
Tumblr media
This one is so easy to wipe off with baby wipes or even wash in the sink, and after months of use, hasnt broken down. It provides a nice cushioning as well!
As for wooden canes, I havent tried them. I think if your prone to hand/wrist pain (which may appear once you begin using your cane regularly), it would hurt due to the hard material. I would get one with some kind of rubber cushion!
2. Folding or Non-Folding?
I find that my non-folding cane is more stable feeling than my first folding one. I am a 24/7 mobility user, and cannot move without a cane, so a non-folding one makes sense for me. If you would like a folding cane, I would invest in a nicer one so it feels more stable than the cheapest options.
3: Cane bases
There are lots of options for cane bases, all of which are great for different purposes. These are fully replaceable and pop off the bottom, so if you find a cane you like with the wrong tip, its very easy to buy the one you want to want.
This one is most affective for speed and weakness, with minor balance issues, and is the one I use:
Tumblr media
For very severe balance issues, a quad-foot might work better, like this one; bear in mind you will move extremely slowly with this one:
Tumblr media
For bariatric patients, or people with very extreme balance problems, a cane base like this one may be best; this one will not be a replaceable attachment.

4. Hand/Writs Pain Associated with Cane Use
Was ive used a cane, I have gained hand/wrist pain. For this, I use soft, low-support hand/wrist braces, and compression gloves, like these ones.

so yeah, thats it! I hope this helps somebody :3

Also on top of that, one I had to use my cane just to go down there because I felt like my knee was going to fold under me and then my ankle started hurting for now fucking reason! What the fuck!?
