My mom’s mom was the mother of 9 children. The notion of this inspires wonder and awe in me. When I visited her grave the other day, I imagined her chiding me for not yet venturing into motherhood. #rip #reflection

Shadow Science: The How and What of Eclipse Magic
Forward: You don’t need to be a psychonaut to appreciate an eclipse, but if you were ever curious about the occult, now might be a good opportunity to gain some practical experience in magic. Behold, a lesson in shadow science~~~
Psychic/spiritual attunement with the cosmos is always possible, but alignment of past, present, and future is more easily achieved during eclipses.  Native Americans, witches, and mages will be utilizing the relative position of the sun, moon, and earth during the eclipse to honor the past by setting intentions to effect change.  Eclipse magic is more effective and more severe because it is born of rare (conditional) and powerful energy.
Three conditions must be met for a total eclipse to occur.  1) the sun and moon appear to be the same size when viewed from earth. This occurs for example when the moon is at perigee (closest to earth in its orbit) while the earth is farthest from the sun (summer).  2) The moon is in a new moon phase during totality.  3) There is a straight line between the axes of all three bodies (syzygy conjunction).  Syzygy between neighboring objects within the same system are rare, and because they are rare, we sense their occurrence.  You could say that a solar eclipse presents an opportunity to experience rare force field changes (flux) that occur when massive astral bodies in close proximity traverse one another at high speeds.  Force is experienced as a push or a pull caused by an interaction between two objects, such as how the gravitation pull of the moon at perigee effects the tide.  Syzygies amplify our sensory experience and therefore our perception.  In those moments, time seems to fly.  It’s as if you have stepped into a flux capacitor.   In some occult circles, eclipses hold within them the energy of an entire cycle of seasons.  Point is, things are likely to get weird (stretched?) when all of this energy is compressed into such a short time-span.  If you ever wanted to ride in a DeLorean, now is your chance.   Buck up! Perhaps you consider yourself to be more grounded or otherwise unaffected by cosmic forces. That’s a comforting feeling, but in reality, you are never truly grounded.  You live on an object that moves in tune with other objects and the forces governing them; accordingly, you are always a passenger in the cosmic dance.  As a passenger, you are likely to be effected.  The two most influential bodies in our solar system are the sun and the moon, and this is represented in astrology.  The conjunction of these two bodies relative to earth represents a unification of the two aspects of one’s psyche: the subconscious and conscious.  When both aspect are aligned with the earth, such as during an eclipse, the unification of the receptive and expressive aspects of an individual, or the blending of one’s subconscious with one’s conscious, comes to bear on one’s reality.  This is a recipe for transmutation!  Furthermore, new moon energy compels us to release the old and make way for the new, to let go while simultaneously setting intentions for new beginnings and fresh starts. There is no better time to do this than when you feel resolute in your intentions, such as when your inner world is ready to be manifested outwardly. That feeling is usually brought about because your forward orientation is aligned with your past position.
Brandishing and releasing an arrow in the sky, with a target in mind or in sight, is a good analogy for eclipse magic.  Be mindful of this and use it to your advantage.  Employ your talismans and your creative energy.  Consider also that the conjunction of two celestial bodies does not occur in a vacuum but rather against the backdrop of the cosmos.  During the 2017 total solar eclipse, the sun and moon are conjunct in Leo.  This means that both aspects of the psyche can simultaneously draw upon Leo energy (leadership, creativity, perseverance, power, determination).  Furthermore, they will be almost on top of Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation Leo.   Something about this gives me goose bumps.
