Debunking Babygate
A sad masterpost of sorts that I am sorry I even have to make.
Tumblr media
First of all, I want to start by stating that I created this blog to serve one purpose: to find truth. Upon discovering Louis and Harry’s rumored relationship, I was torn by the idea that something that seemed so real to me was officially considered a wild conspiracy theory. So, I started this blog to look at all the details. I did not “ship” Louis and Harry, but I believed they were more than friends. It seemed clear to me. I tried to debunk their relationship and I could not. Now, this lead me to babygate. I was so upset by the scale of which Louis and Harry’s relationship appeared to have been covered up that I almost believed it the first time I saw “proof” for BG, but I knew, like most things, there are two sides of a story and you have to view both in order to see the whole picture clearly.  So, I began going through BG proof and trying to see if I could disprove it. To me, this was very easy to disprove, unlike something happening between Louis and Harry. The ease at which I was able to disprove things lead me to the conclusion that Louis did, in fact, have a child. This brought me furthermore to the conclusion that Louis and Harry were likely not together when this child was conceived.
I didn’t receive the answers I “wanted.” Of course a fairytale perfect love story for Louis and Harry would be what I would want, but what I always wanted more was the truth. On my blog, there is no bending the truth to fit a desired narrative. In fact, I have often posted things and discovered they were debunked later, then updated the posts to reflect their debunked status.  A lot of what I have written have just been theories because there is not enough information to come up with a definitive answer. I’ve tried to make that clear when that is the case. People take theories, even other peoples’ theories, and hold them as facts. This is both problematic and closed-minded. Both “antis” that believe Harry and Louis were never together, and Larries that believe Harry and Louis are still together, ignore massive amounts of evidence that point in different directions because they don’t want it to be true. When a story becomes something you want to believe more than you want the truth, you get fake proof and bogus theories. Unfortunately, it appears a vast majority of the popular 1D blogs fall in this category.
I think a lot of people in this fandom don’t understand how to discern fact from fiction, and I think that might largely be due to age. This is often a skill acquired with age and experience. If you look only at the proof that Eleanor was Louis’ girlfriend, or Taylor was Harry’s girlfriend, you will believe it.  It looks like the truth.  However, if you spend real quality time on a good Larry proof source, you might begin to see things a bit differently.  I’ve spent hours and hours on Elounor and Haylor proof blogs and still found that the evidence and timeline for Louis and Harry’s relationship was stronger. Similarly, those that already believe Larry is real tend to take any babygate “proof” as fact, or, at the very least, as a solid argument. In order to really see if something is, in fact, credible, you have to look at the other side of the story, no matter how painful that may be. In the case of “babygate,” the other side of the story paints a very different picture.
“You only get half of the story…” - Louis Tomlinson
I received the following ask, so I am going to address the points made as well as some others.
Tumblr media
1. Firstly, the opinion that Freddie is Brett’s twin is a subjective opinion. I strongly disagree, as do many others. Aside from having blonde hair and blue eyes, I see nothing in common. His lips and nose look exactly like Louis’ to me.  This doesn’t debunk anything, it just proves that visually, there is no proof to be gained. You cannot prove or disprove parentage based on looks unless maybe race is involved, but since Freddie is white with blue eyes and so are both Brett and Louis, that leads us nowhere. To me, Louis’ nose and mouth as a child look near identical to Freddie’s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Once again, the thing about Calvin cannot be used at proof for several reasons. First of all, it came from an update account and in terms of proof it is as weak as Anastasia Steele’s tea (I am sorry for this reference). It is hearsay. There is no proof that he said that. Second of all, it is ludicrous to assume you can know the date Briana would have gotten pregnant. Assuming she carried to full term, which it appears she did, there was a good window of 2-3 weeks that she could have gotten pregnant.
Tumblr media
Full-term is considered 39 weeks through 40 weeks and 6 days. That is nearly 3 weeks.  That means there is a three week period in which a woman can get pregnant and still have a full-term pregnancy.  However, babies are often born a week early and are perfectly healthy, which would extend the window that B could have gotten pregnant to four whole weeks!
3. Her bump did not disappear. This is one of the proofs that bothers me the most. I don’t know who first suggested this. She is sitting down, far away in the picture and wearing all black, which makes it hard to see.  Even so, I can clearly see the bump, so I assume everyone that “doesn’t see it” doesn’t want to see it. You can tell from the other picture taken in that dress that she was carrying rather low, so the bump wouldn’t have been big right under her bust line.
Tumblr media
Carrying low:
Tumblr media
People love to ridicule Briana’s pregnant body and say her belly looked weird or was not big enough. After having worked with hundreds of pregnant women, I can tell you this: no pregnancy is the same. The way women look during pregnancy and carry their child depends on genetics, age, whether it is a first pregnancy or not, their natural body size, etc. Many young, fit women have smaller bumps for their first pregnancy. To compare Briana’s 8 month belly to another woman’s is fundamentally wrong and proves nothing.
Additionally, look at all the people in that picture. All those people knew her and saw her. I am to believe they were ALL in on babygate? That seems like a lot of moving players and way too many NDAs.
4. While I don’t understand why people that lie do what they do, it kind of doesn’t matter that Ashley stole some pic of a random girl in the hospital (or other times).  She was probably craving attention and not being given any pictures.  She was really riding on the coat tails of Briana’s momentary fame. The thing is, we do have real pictures of Briana in the hospital bed, wearing the hospital gown, with a newborn Freddie, as well as other pictures taken in the hospital.  So, that real picture cancels out whatever Ashley did earlier on in the day, despite how shady it was.
The fake picture Ashley posted (belonging to another woman):
Tumblr media
Real pictures taken in the hospital:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Briana’s parents celebrating. Clearly, Tammi was not the one that gave birth.
Tumblr media
Louis, holding Freddie in the hospital. Didn’t people make a big deal about him going to a sunglass store that day?  Weird.  Here he is playing with the baby by putting the sunglasses on him.
Tumblr media
5. Guess what? Briana did NOT have a nose job while pregnant. Below are two pictures of her.  The one on the left was taken before she got pregnant/when she and Louis were hanging out. The one on the right was taken the day she left the hospital with Freddie. Clearly, her nose is exactly the same.
Tumblr media
The full shots so you know I am not lying about the times they were taken:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pictures used to “prove” she had a nose job while pregnant are terrible pictures of her that do not properly show how she looks.
6. How is the lack of a video of Freddie being called by his name proof? I take videos of people all the time and rarely do I call them by their name. If there is no video of him being called Freddie, then we cannot assume he does not respond to it. There is no logic there.  This is a very weak point.
7. The newborn Freddie looks very much like the Freddie we see today. The reason for his temporary medical helmet was never disclosed, but it doesn’t matter.  I also don’t know what pierced ear picture you are talking about, but below is a picture of Lottie with Freddie.  You cannot fake this kind of love.  You cannot force an entire family to fake a relationship with a child.
Tumblr media
You could not have forced Jay to fly to America to play a part in such a sick and twisted lie.
Tumblr media
More pictures of Freddie that show it has always been the same baby.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
8. People state that Briana carried the carrier out of the hospital and no woman that just gave birth would have done that.  The picture that they always use is to prove this, is this one:
Tumblr media
This picture was actually NOT taken when she left the hospital. This picture was taken when she brought Freddie out of the house for the first time. Louis carried Freddie out of the hospital right after he was born:
Tumblr media
People also like to make a big deal about the fact that Briana walked out of the hospital instead of being pushed in a wheelchair. I worked on the maternity floor of a hospital for over a year and young mothers that gave birth vaginally without complication were often completely fine to walk out of the hospital. It really depends on the mother.
9. People act like Briana was planned for awhile to be “the mother” of his “fake child.” What is interesting is April 25, 2015 this article was printed. The article was titled:
Tumblr media
The girl in question was the girl in this picture with him, not Briana.
Tumblr media
Several other girls were also pictured in the article and a group of girls were mentioned, but none were Briana.  The thing is, Briana was there.  Why would she be left out of an article if they were “seeding” this relationship, trying to lead up to BG?
Tumblr media
Briana can also be seen in this video. She is the first one to enter the building before Louis says, “das your fookin job you fookin loosah!” to the pap. (The title that mentions her by name was changed after she had been identified as the mother of his child.)
10. Even more interesting is the fact that the following pictures are not widely circulated.  The first one is actually pretty hard to track down outside of some Briana timeline tumblr posts. It was taken on May 5th, which would have been around the time B got pregnant. Wouldn’t they have been widely circulated if they were only taken to “prove” a fake relationship.
Tumblr media
When has Louis ever had a moment like this with Eleanor? Did he suddenly, overnight, become not only a good actor, but also suddenly agree to go along with stunts to this extreme? He had more chemistry with Briana than he ever displayed with El.
10. People say Briana was never pregnant. I’d like to end this right now. She clearly had a post-partum body.  She gained weight in her face and thighs during the pregnancy, and that was visible. With a strapped on pillow tummy, that would not have been the case.  Additionally, her saggy belly was visible shortly after giving birth.  She is young and naturally slim, so she “snapped back” quickly, but there are still pictures that show she was obviously pregnant.
This is Briana leaving the hospital after giving birth. She has a belly, larger breasts, and her face has obviously gained weight.
Tumblr media
Additional pictures of her shortly after giving birth. Weight on her upper thighs and a post-partum belly.
Tumblr media
11. People have stated that Louis never got a paternity test because it is not public record. They state there was never a custody hearing/agreement. I went so far as to speak to a lawyer about this who said that nearly every single celebrity will have these records sealed, so there is absolutely no way to prove he did not get them.
Here is the thing, whether he got a paternity test or not, his name is on that birth certificate. So, guess what that means? Legally, he is claiming him as his son. Since Briana was, in fact, pregnant and she and Louis looked very cozy together around the time she got pregnant, it would not be out of the realm of possibility that it is biologically his as well.
Tumblr media
There are a lot of other things people use as proof, but this post would literally never end if I tried to debunk them all. These are the major points and a lot of the tiny things are so ridiculous that I don’t see the point in debunking them. A lot of things have debunked themselves over time. People thought the pictures of Louis and his kid were fake/photoshopped originally, but clearly there was a real baby, so why would they have photoshopped anything? People thought the baby was a doll initially, but that was also proven false with time.  There are a lot of strange things that occurred PR-wise with this kid.  The early announcement of the pregnancy and all of Louis’ pap-walks with the kid were so bizarre and I don’t have an explanation for them, but they cannot be used as proof that the kid is not his.
I leave some final questions for those that believe in BG to mull over:
If they wanted to make the baby a big deal/hide H&L’s relationship, why did they ban the discussion of the kid from MITAM promo and allow H&L to sit together? Don’t these things completely contradict each other? Management also “allowed” (aka most likely orchestrated) RBB for promo, so why would they simultaneously use H&L’s relationship for promo/larrybaiting while trying to cover up their relationship with an elaborately orchestrated fake baby stunt that has lasted years into hiatus?
When, in the history of ever, has a “fake baby” been a thing that was pulled off and carried out for years to forcibly closet someone? Bearding is a thing. Not fake babies.
The kid was born after the hiatus, but before Louis went solo. What purpose does this serve? Timing wise, how does this make any sense? Who was pulling the strings for this to happen to essentially out-of-work Louis?
If Louis is the underdog whose album is being held back, thus the one who is making zero profit for Sony at the moment, why would they invest millions into an elaborate and very risky fake baby scandal for nearly four years? They’d be hemorrhaging money over an artist they essentially don’t support and receive very little profit from.
Parting thoughts: I know we, as a fandom, are all obsessed with Louis and follow every breath he takes, so we care about the baby’s existence and what that means. You know who doesn’t care about the baby or even know he has a kid? The general public. Louis is NOT that famous outside of the 1D bubble. Most people couldn’t pick Louis out of a line-up of 2. Most people have never heard of him. So, essentially, this elaborate, risky, incredibly involved “stunt” would be just to try to get to Larries?  That’s essentially what Larries believe. This is for their benefit, so they might change their mind about Louis’ sexual orientation or his relationship with Harry. Seems unrealistic.
Additionally, I beg of anyone that is reading this to have some sympathy. These are real people you are calling names, making bizarre theories about, and harassing. Even if you’ve read through this whole post and still think the kid is Brett’s, and Briana was never pregnant, you should know that you cannot be 100% sure.  If there is even 1% chance that the kid is Louis’ and Briana’s, they need to be respected.  Briana may be young and still party while her parents watch the kid a lot, but she is a young single mom that loves her son dearly, and all the hate she gets from the 1D fandom is surely eating her up inside.

Sometimes I wonder if H gets gender euphoria from our tweets. We call his pecs tits and talk about how big they are. We call him she and her and use feminine terms to describe him. We call him princess and baby girl and talk about how pretty and delicate he is.
We talk about how good of a mom he’d be. And how great of a wife he is and how Louis so lucky to have a girl like H.
Idk I just, he probably doesn’t hear it a lot in real life and I know how much those small but incredibly affirming compliments and terms mean to trans people and I just wonder if H feels their power and sincerity when he reads them on Twitter.
Even if people say them ironically, they still mean something you know?

The way Harry’s gender is only to be expressed in bite sized pieces that are tolerable to his het fans. He’s only allowed to wear dresses if they’re costumes. Painting his nails is only okay if it’s part of his brand and can be profited off of. She and Little freak are songs he can release as long as they’re never talked about or acknowledged in depth.
The Sushi video made is so fucking clear how much H has been exploited by his management. He’s only valuable if he’s making them money. He can be who he wants off stage, behind the scenes, but the minute he goes outside he’s just a brand. He can be feminine and express his genderqueerness in a tolerable way. He can be a mermaid and use the woman’s washroom and wear silk camisoles in the music video, as long as that doesn’t bleed into real life.
Harry’s fanbase is terrified of the word “trans” when it applies to H. They cannot find a way to make “Harry is genderqueer” make sense in their minds. It’s impossible for H to be anything but straight let alone transfemme or gnc. And all this is proven when the only time H is allowed to express himself, he still has to cater to them.
H is trans, genderqueer, nonbinary, gender non conforming, transfemme, whatever word you want to use. He is not cis and this music video makes that fact.

This is a highly controversial opinion that I’m scared of posting on Twitter:
Abusers are not inherently bad people and they have the capacity to change.
I’m seeing a lot of people talk about Shia and how no one should pay him any mind because he’s an abuser and… this mindset that because someone was a shitty person at one point in their life means they can never take accountability and become better is harmful. Shia has talked about how he knows he was abusive and how he caused a lot of people a lot of pain. He stepped back and went to rehab and took the time to change. He’s said time and time again that he deserves everything that’s being done because he recognizes that he was an abuser. Like, of course that doesn’t excuse or erase what he did and the hurt he caused, but he’s genuinely trying to get better. He’s sober and clean and doing the work that needs to he done. I just think that while yes, he did a lot of shitty things and caused permanent trauma he should be allowed to exist without being shamed and bullied.
Believe it or not, a lot of abusers suffer from mental illness and their actions are a direct reflection of untreated mental health issues. Sometimes that’s an addiction, BPD, or mania. Sometimes it’s a crippling fear of abandonment and severe anxiety. All these things create toxic relationships. But, they can be treated. And once they are, those toxic relationship patterns go away. And a lot of people with mental illness and addiction unintentionally hurt people. So I just think that this idea that someone having a history of abuse means they’re a horrible person until the day they die is not helping anyone.
People can change, they can learn and better themselves, they can take accountability and actively try to become good people. They can do this while still suffering from the consequences of their actions and be held responsible.
Idk. I just think that people have the capacity to change and leaving no room for that is not helpful to anyone.

Holiday by Louis Tomlinson - Analysis
(LEAKED SONG)
The conceit of this song is that the version of Louis who goes out at night and parties is separate from his narrating self. He uses the sexual tension between himself and his alter ego as a metaphor for the allure of self-destruction.
He lives like the weekend Has vodka and chain smokes Wears vintage Reebok That he overpaid for
Louis begins with a self-portrait. He is well known to enjoy vodka, chain smoke, and wear vintage sportswear.
Arise when you leave him Stays when the lights come on All tumult and feelings
Here he uses "you" in the way that really refers to himself. "Arise when you leave him" indicates that when you wake up, you leave the night time hard-partying version of yourself. "Stays when the lights come on" indicates that his other self doesn't really go away during the day. "All tumult and feelings" indicates that the alter ego carries emotional conflict over into Louis' daily life.
Says I look like someone Someone he met in Spain
This is the type of interaction that implies a fling. Louis uses it to show that he has been involved with this man and he is now flirting with him again.
We had the deepest talk I said that’s a mistake But he won’t let it go
Louis is trying to deny their connection, but the man won't let him forget. More metaphorically, Louis is trying to deny the darker part of himself and the things it has forced him to understand about himself.
I think he's gonna break This guy’s got nothing good to say I think he’s gonna have a heart attack
The hard-partying alter-ego is on a path to self-destruction. He's not someone you should listen to and his poor life choices are putting him on track to an early grave.
It’s another holiday Until somebody gets hurt It’s another holiday Until somebody gets hurt
Holiday is when you let loose. We can assume that Spain was also a holiday trip, and on that trip Louis had to confront some things about himself. Now this trip is bringing them back up. The pain resulting from that is spoiling the vacation.
His life’s like a movie But nobody’s watchin'
This tells us he's living an exciting life and that it is private. Louis goes to private parties/clubs and that is where this alter-ego's life happens. It also reveals insecurity, a desire to perform and appear cool even when no one's paying attention.
Smokes like he’s James Dean
This line drives home the song's themes of self-destruction, a desire to project a superficial persona, and homoerotic subtext.
James Dean is a major pop culture icon. He is the definition of cool. He starred in movies as a bad boy. In real life, he was gay and had a secret affair with fellow movie star Marlon Brando. His untimely death became a legend. He died at age 24 speeding in a car he called "Little Bastard" which he said was cursed. This made him an icon of self-destruction.
Louis had a 'baby James Dean' era while in 1D, where his aesthetic closely matched James Dean's. Out of the band, he did a photoshoot where he recreated some iconic James Dean moments, including this iconic homoerotic scene from Rebel Without A Cause:
Tumblr media
Slow shadow boxing
Shadow boxing is sparring alone with an imaginary opponent. In other words, Louis is fighting with an opponent who is not really there. He's fighting himself, or rather his shadow self. 'Slow' suggests that this fight is happening in his mind while he smokes.
Tries to be cool but Can’t let the night move on Asking for cigarettes
He smokes to affect a cool persona, but it's really a chemical and emotional dependency. He's the friend at the club who wants to stay outside and smoke another cigarette rather than go back in and party with the group. He'd be having more fun if he wasn't trying to be cool and he dealt with his emotions.
The song continues, repeating the chorus which does not change in meaning.

hi gina, i saw on twitter that antis/solo harries are blaming us larries for what harry said about people who „blur the lines for you“ and that he means us with „there's this corner of the thing, and they're going to say this, and it's going to be really crazy, and they're going to be really mean, and it's not real...“
like they think he’s indirectly calling us out and calling us disrespectful. i know that it’s twitter and i shouldn’t take this serious because i‘m confident in my believes, but i don’t really know what to say or think about that. what do you think?
Hi sweetheart. A friend sent me this tweet just now:
Tumblr media
And this really sums up Harry's promo. I think this article is particularly blatant and anyone who's will to look beyond their "side" can see it. He calls Twitter a shit hole and points fingers at fans (larries, sure, but really, also harries because everyone fucking hates Olivia). He comments about exploring his sexuality (what straight man ever?), but also has multiple quotes from his current "girlfriend". He allows a focuses on DWD, but only spoken about through teh author and Olivia while he speaks himself on the tenderness of the gay sex scenes in MP. One Direction and X Factor are mentioned, but there are plenty of comments about how he's surpassed even his time in "the band". Oh, and don't forget, there's lots of talk about his movies, but also mention of how he doesn't think he's that into making movies and he's already working on HS4.
They really laid out a little something for everyone.
And people are pissed. But just you wait, we'll get a little wholesome Harry content and everyone will forget how upset they are. @daisiesonafield-blog just pointed out to me how they did this after everyone was angry about the deluge of pap shoots and the fucking circus at the restaurant in New York. Suddenly we get a cutesy interview that was done months ago at Coachella and everyone forgot to be mad at Harry.
It's exhausting being his fan. And you either have to roll with it and accept that this is the way it always has been and will continue to be, or you ignore it all and just focus on his music.
But this is how he and his team are playing things. There's something for everyone. He's not going to double down on anything without also having wiggle room for dissenters to clutch at something else he's said that proves their beliefs. I really don't see how this is sustainable, but so far his charm and his talent are carrying him through it.
And just to be clear. I think H is queer. I think he and Louis are together. I think Holivia is a steaming pile of horseshit. My beliefs remain the same. I just don't know how much abuse I care to take in exchange for being vocal about it.

Twitter is a buzz with calling harry out for that BS today and I agree.
I’m sure he wishes we were still talking about his fake ass PR relationship. I’m sure we’ll see pap pics of him with Olivia or something instead of an actual apology or any growth on the subject.
I’m so over it.
It was an extremely unfortunate way to make the point that the sex scenes in MP are tender and beautiful.
I don’t entirely agree with what this person in your screen shots said because I still don’t think every actor has to be out in order to play queer characters. IMO if you’re an actor who’s not ready to come out, it’s okay. No one should be forced to out themselves in order to work. But someone who isn’t out has to understand that people are going to be upset (or uncomfortable) if they have commentary on queer art. Most people aren’t going to be able to hold space for the idea that an actor is possibly closeted — that person is just going to be assumed to be straight.
Harry is trying to walk this line by saying his sexuality is his own, which he’s absolutely entitled to, while inserting himself into a very queer space and simultaneously presenting himself in a very heterosexual way. Yes, of course he could identify as bi/pan or he could be GNC, but barely anyone is going to give him the benefit of the doubt there. As far as most of the GP is concerned, he’s a cishet man.
I hope with all my heart that he has some queer people on his PR team because he seems to badly need that. I know he means well, but over and over again he says things in ways that really hurt people and that only reflects badly on him. I hate it because I know this film means so much to him, and I can’t imagine his intention is ever to hurt people, but can someone fucking step in and help him with some nuanced language for when he does talk about this film?

No one is saying Harry has to come out to as queer. He’s gonna be queer whether he comes out, tweets about it, sits down with Oprah and does a tell all or stay in the closet forever. But, that doesn’t mean that he gets a platform to speak out and give opinions about queer issues that directly impact queer people when his perspective is that of a cis/het man. It’s like, say I non binary person, before I came out and was therefore seen as a cis woman started talking about how gender is pointless and overrated. Obviously that invalidates other trans people and even tho I’m trans, if at the time I said those things I wasn’t out, they would hurt people and cause offence.
It just means that people, of all marginalized communities need to be mindful of the communities we claim and how we interact with them before speaking about important issues. That’s all. No one is forcing H to come out, it’s not about that, it’s just that, while he’s not out, making statements about what he thinks is good gay sex on film, while it may have been well intentional, offended a lot of people.
Because how would you like it if your straight friend started saying that the gay sex they watch is too rough for their liking. I’d bet you’d be offended. Why? Because straight people don’t get to decide what good queer representation looks like because it’s not their community that’s being represented.
So while I know that queer people don’t need to come out, and that Harry doesn’t owe us anything, in this society it is the standard that queer people have to come out. Especially public figures. If you don’t tweet it, you’re straight. And I know that fucked up. It’s really really fucked up, but that doesn’t change reality. And that reality is that Harry Styles will be perceived as cis/het by the general public until he tells us blatantly otherwise.
And knowing that, means knowing that what he says will be taken as the opinion of a straight man, which I know, sucks, but it’s true. And when those opinions are on a queer specific subject, Harry’s words will be seen as him talking about something he has no right to talk about.
And again, he doesn’t need to come out in order to voice his opinions, he can say whatever about whatever, but, that doesn’t mean the GP is gonna see it as him, a queer man speaking about something that impacts him personally. They won’t because that’s not his public persona or narrative right now. So when the GP and his queer fans get frustrated with him it comes from a place of constantly living in a world where their identities are prosecuted. It comes from a place of anger, that this straight man gets to talk over them, gets to decide what good representation is for their community. They have a right to be angry because if all they’ve seen is the recent tabloids of H and O holding hands, walking down a street every other day, or listening to WS, Carolina, Cherry, Cinema, and all the media just pushing his heterosexuality, it’s easy to understand why they’d think he’s straight. You can’t blame them for believing what Jeff has been forcing down their throats for the past 6 years.
So yes, fans are angry and disappointed, but the Larries and real fans aren’t asking him to come out, we know the truth. We know about the closeting and how much abuse he’s suffered in the industry and how hard he’s fought to be himself. We know all this, but they don’t, and right now they see another white, cis/het popstar profiting off of a marginalized community.
That’s all I have to say.

The rolling stone article was a shit show. I don’t know who thought it was passable but here we are. Everyone is pissed. Solo’s and Holivias are angry because it shows Harry completely dismissing his and O’s relationship. The GP is pissed especially queer fans because it potrays him as a straight man giving an unsolicited opinion on how gay sex is depicted while he talks about the gay character he will be playing. There’s been a lot of debate on whether straight actors should play gay characters. Many people will say that giving those roles to straight actors takes away an oppurtunity for a queer actor. It also shows that queerness is not something that can be put on and taken off like a jacket when it’s raining. So Harry, already not on the good side of those who want more real queer rep in films goes out to say what he thinks good gay sex should look like on screens? That just completely dismisses how hard so many queer filmmakers have fought to have gay movies in gernal, let alone those with “sensual, emotional sex”. Gay movies that had sex were catered to a female audience so those tender, romantic sex scenes weren’t there for so long because amature porn type sex was accepted when genine love and affection was not. Sex between men was okay because the audience found it hot but a true connection was too much actual “gay content”. But in regards to Harry finding “two men going at it removes the tenderness from it” I really think he needs to look at the definition of of sex because that’s literally what it is. In fact, Brokeback Mountain- one of the few sex scenes in film that most people can name and it was extremely sensual and vulnerable and caused waves of criticism across the film industry when it came out.
So despite the fact that Harry is queer and closted and probably has no say in whether he partook in this interview, his comments were irresobnsible. It pissed off and hurt a lot of people because even though he may be gay as a peackock, he’s not out. He has never declared himself to be a part of the LGBTQ communitity. And as much as he can make vague statements about his sexuality and evade labelling it, he has never officially come out as anything other than straight. And he doesn’t need to. Let me say that clearly, Harry does not owe anyone an explanation about his sexuality, BUT that does not mean he can just start giving his opinions about gay sex on use the queer aestehtic but not have to face the reality of being queer. At the end of the day, when we know he’s going home to Louis, everyone else thinks he’s going home to a woman- Olivia. And that he gets on stage and wears clothes that Freddy used to, sing gay anthems, queercode to the inth degree, but then never has to actually take on the burden of being queer in this society. He doesn’t get the same criticism and homophobia other queer artists do. He can wear whatever he wants and star as Tom and sing about dick but until he makes any move to distance himself from the cis/het image that’s been created for him, he is afforded that straight pribegalge that protects him.
We know Harry is closested and can’t come out, but when he goes and does an interview where he talks about his sexuality and how it’s not fair when people question his querness on the basis that he’s never dated women or anyone publicly, but then in that same interview the journalist calls Olivia his girlfriend and talks about how the internet impacts their relationship. Both cannot be true. It’s impossible for him to have never dated anyone publicly while going along with the narrative that Olivia is his girlfriend of two years. And maybe he doesn’t have a choice. But guess what, he’s on pap walks all the time, articles about their relationship come out every day. She is referred to as his girlfriend and he talks vaguely about their relationship. For all intents and purposes, he is dating Olivia. So you can understand how shitty it must be for the queer fans who don’t know as much as we do see this pop icon continuously play up his sexual abiguity and take on the queer aesthtic just to go on and give unsolicted, harmful views about how gay sex is potrayed on screen in an interview in which your girlfriend talks about being victimized by his fans, all the while the end of the day those same queer have to go back to a reality where their mere existence is vilified. They don’t have the option to just “go back to being straight”, they can’t just turn off that inherent part of themselves when it suits them. And I’m not saying that Harry has to come out, not at all, but he does need to be aware that there is a responsibility that comes with being a public figure, especially a public figure that has been highly influential in a marginalized community and how their words and actions might affect that community.
Before I came out as nonbinary I said a lot of questinable things that because of my, at the time, cis she/her I’m not trans idenity came across at hurtful to NB people. But because I’m out, those things I said are now relatable and understood because of my place within the community.
“Damn, pronouns are hard to figure out”
“Why does everyone have to make such a big deal about gender”
“Why does gender matter anyway, I’m just human”
These statements coming from a cis person scream invalidation and trans micro agressions, but a nonbinary or trans person saying them changes the context. And not to say that I didn’t have a right to say them when I wasn’t out, but I was mindful of how they would come across because like with Harry, without a tie to the community they can come across as offensive.
And sometimes it feels like H wants to placate both sides of the fandom. He doesn’t want to deny or confirm Holivia because it means he has support from two very big sides of the fandom and by confirming one of them, he’s cutting off a huge chunk of his fans. So sometimes it feels like he’s feeding each side morsels to keep us strung along until the next time. He has a foot on each side of the fence and I think people are getting fed up. You can’t be this great man who’s a budding gay icon and poprocker who changes lives, and also be the kind of man who profits off of and strings along his queer fans while he dates a woman who’s a known supporter of peodophiles and abusers. And yes you can argue contracts and closeting but it’s been 2 years of this stunt, 12 since the first stunt, Harry is now 28 and continues to call Jeff his best friend, hang around him and promote his brands and thank him at every show. It just seems like if Harry really wanted to, he could fight more. He could rally for lights up and make sure that his charity campaigns aren't filled with cheesy song lyrics relating to gun violence. And I’m not blaming him because I don’t know the whole situation but at this point, I’m tired. H must be tired. Everyone is tired of this stunt and this hiding and it shows on days like today. The entire GP is calling him a queerbaiter, and the thing is, if I didn’t know as much as I do now, I would have said the same thing based on that interviews and the info bites that go viral. You can’t blame queer fans for being pissed, they have a right to be because if all you see is the outside, Harry does look like another white cis/het man profiting off of a minorty without living their reality. And his fault or not, it’s disappointing.

Harry Styles, Queerbaitor or Queer Icon? (Mock Article)
Maz Love, The Larry Times
Harry Styles, where do I even begin. When I was assigned this topic I didn’t realize how opinionated and outwardly spoken his fans, and the general public are on his every move. It seems everyone and their grandmother has an opinion on him. After scouring both sides of a very polarized fan base and general public, I have come to the conclusion that all these extreme views are rooted in homophobia, transphobia and an overall lack of understanding of the queer experience.
When Styles was cast as Tom Burgess- a closeted gay police man in Bethan Roberts screen adaptation of her book My Policeman, there was one term I kept seeing repeatedly- Queerbaiter. Many were outraged that Styles, a seemingly heterosexual man was cast as a queer character, thus taking away a big opportunity from an actual queer person. It’s been a long standing debate within Hollywood on whether it’s okay to cast straight actors in queer roles. Many would argue that it’s not. There are of queer actors who deserve the recognition and more importantly, it acknowledges that being queer isn’t something you can try on and off like a shirt. With Styles playing Tom and his history of co-opting important parts of queer culture, many are quick to call out the singer as a queerbaiter. Saying he is someone who uses the queer aesthetic to increase profits and cultural relevance. These claims are not unfounded. Styles has been an open advocate for love in all forms, routinely runs around with pride flags at his concerts, helps fans come out and actively breaks gender norms. These should be great things right? But Styles has refused to comment on his sexuality, has only dated women in the public eye, and when asked about using the queer aesthetic for profits his response was a throwaway, claiming he just likes what he likes. Many queer people are upset that this high profile man has been able to avoid labeling his sexuality even as he continues to take gay roles and use the queer aesthetic like it’s not something people aren’t killed, abused and beaten for on a daily basis all while dating a woman.
I can understand where these folks are coming from. Their rage isn’t unfounded or misplaced. Styles, for all intents and purposes is heterosexual to the general public and by taking on the the role of Tom Burgess and waving around pride flags like they are anything more than fabric to him, must be disheartening.
However, I will ask, does anyone, regardless of their public stature, owe us an explanation on their gender or sexuality? Are queer celebrities required to sit down and record a twenty minute video describing when they first knew they weren’t straight? Or a tweet officially declaring themselves a member of the alphabet mafia? No. They don’t. Styles is not the exception.
After seeing the commentary on Styles sexuality the one thing that kept coming up for me was what they were basing their assumptions on. He wore a dress on vogue, no straight man would do that, he must be gay. He paints his nails and wears designer clothes, no straight man cares that much about their appearance to dress up each day. All these little comments are really just reflections on the harmful stereotypes queer men face. It sets a standard for what queer looks like. It makes it hard for more masculine men to be taken seriously when they come out, it immediately places more feminine men into a box that they may or may not fit into. And more importantly, it’s assuming someone’s sexuality based on their clothes and expression.
Harry Styles wearing a dress or painting his nails is not an indicator of his sexuality. Nor is it an open invitation to discuss it. Now, Styles has been dropping what many in the community refer to as ‘queer codes’ since the early days of one direction. And while the general public may not know the words to a rarely played unreleased song, his fans do. In his song Medicine which Styles started playing on his first world tour, the lyric “I mess around with him, and I’m okay with it” can be heard, oftentimes with a smirk, coming out of Harry’s mouth. He released “Lights up,” a song which has been deemed a bisexual anthem by fans on national coming out day. Styles is very careful to use gender neutral pronouns when talking about love interests and many of his songs (She, Fine Line, As it Was, and the music video for Treat People With Kindness) deeply explore the themes of gender and the gender binary. Now, these things are often overlooked by the general public but I find it important to note that Styles has been insinuating his ties to the queer community for years and that his unwillingness to give the public a definitive label is not from a place of malice or deceit, but for the simple reason that he does not owe anyone his label. That label is his, and it’s his choice on whether he wants to share that label with the world. And if not, that should not give his fans the wherewithal to call him a queerbaiter and say he’s pretending to be gay for money. It reinforces the narrative that queer people have to come out in order to be seen a queer. They don’t. Queer people will be queer whether they tweet about it or never tell a soul.
This applies to Styles and every other celebrity out there. He has made his concerts a safe space for everyone, his rainbow flag waving is the highlight of his shows for many, and he will make a wonderful Tom Burgess that will be cherished for years to come.
So let’s leave the homophobic stereotypes and standards in the past and let people, not matter how famous do what they want without knowing down their doors for explanations

After all the shit that’s happened on twitter I decided to make this post. People would rather believe that their idol does stereotypically queer things so they can profit off their queer fans. Like? That’s a horrible thing to do. Queerness is not something you can shrug on and off for the sake of profits and popularity amongst a ceratin group. If we are going with the theory that Louis is straight I, a queer person would be highly irked by his behaviour. First off, Only The Brave is about queer love. Louis didn’t write it, so if Louis sat down, read the lyrics and said “I’m straight and can’t relate to any of these lyrics but tons of my fans are queer and I know they’ll eat this up so I’ll take it instaed of passing it to a queer artist who would have a personal connection to the song” That would be such a fucked up thing to do. Not to mention that the song has literally become a beacon of light for his queer fans and the venues become literal pride parades for the song. He literally did a shoot with polari. That is a language created by the queer comminuty so they could communicate with eachother without getting fucking arrested or killed by homophobes. I would find it highly inappropriate for a famous straight man to promote and profit off a brand founded on the struggles of the queer comminity without having any connection to the community or those struggles. Especially when there are so many artists who are queer who could understand those struggles. Also, Louis knows what Larry is, he knows what blue and green mean. He goes out on stage every show and sings a song with Larry in it. He gets the venues to light up in blue and green. He points at Larry signs. The only shirt he wore twice on tour was blue and green. If we think he does all these things on purpose but that Larry isn’t real, it means that he is misleading an entire part of his fandom for profit and popularity. Plus, the Larry fandom is made up, primarily of queer people. It would be absolutely shit of him to constantly bait his queer fans just so he can make more money. Because that is what he’s doing if Larry isn’t real. He’d be preying on his queer fans and making himself more marketable to them because he knows they make up a big chuck of his fandom. But do you know how fucked up that is? Pretending to be gay and queercoding just for money? Like it’s something that people aren’t killed, disowned, beat and abused for? Like being gay is some trendy thing that makes you seem hip and woke? People would really rather believe that Louis is doing all that than believe that he might be in a relationship with his ex bandmate. Because if I wasn’t dead set on the fact that Larry is real, I would actively despise Louis with a passion for misleading his queer fans and profiting off the queer aesthetic.
Same with Harry. If Harry is straight than all his queercoding and coming outs would means he’s literally just ‘playing gay for fun’. What is light’s up? What is She, medicine, fine line? LIke?? How do you explain those in a cis/het way? They’d rather think that he has to get drunk to think of his girlfriend and that when they have sex is the only time he knows her than the possibility that the “her” in question is a reference to his gender idenity. Same with She. It’s like the thought of Harry being anything but cis/het is an absoutle tragedy. They’d rather create a version of the story where Harry actively hurts queer people. And the whole Holivia thing. You really want Harry to be the kind of guy who sleeps with his boss while she’s in a relationship with a man who she has with two young kids with? She also just happens to be Harvey Weinstein's right hand man and she’s also ten years older and in a position of power over him and can impact his career in the industry. You really think Harry would do that? And if he did, you should be concerned. That is a recipe for a relationship built on manipulation and power. Why would anyone want that for Harry? Because it’s better than him being queer? Because it’s better than him being anything other than the cis/het fantasy you’ve been sold since the day he auditioned for the X factor. So when people say that Larry is fake and clearly they’re both straight I just want them to evaluate what that means for them. Because if they are straight and Larry has never been real, not only are they profiting off the queer aesthteic and their queer fans, they are causing harm to real queer people who can’t come out, who can’t be themselves because guess what? Being queer is still a sin and bad to so many people. Also, do you really wanna believe that Louis, a world famous singer was so irresponsible he got a one night stand pregnant? That’s the first rule in Hollywood! If you’re gonna have sex, use protection! And if you do get someone pregnant? GET A PAT TEST! Lord knows some people would use a baby just to get money and fame. Also, Louis has always kept his private life to himself. He would not all the sudden take his baby on walks so he can get photographed for publicity and relevancy. Like? You want to believe that Louis is the kind of day to expose his newborn to the paps just so he can get media attention? Or make so many Billie Jean references? Get his own sons birthday wrong? Let the media believe he’s a dead beat dad? Is that who you want to stan? A man who refuses to acknowledge his girlfriend of 10 years? A man who treats his girlfriend like a dog walker and trophy wife? I would not support a man like that.
So all of this is to say, which narrative paints Louis and Harry in a bad light? Which one makes them seem like queerbaiting homewreckers? The one where Larry isn’t real and where Louis isn’t a dad.
If there day ever comes where Larry is confirmed to be nothing but a wise tale, H and L will lose my support because of how much they interact with the fandom and continue to push Larry.

This is long but really important after the Greg James used they/them for Harry and then corrected himself. Please have a read, it’s important
Just had a long ass Twitter argument without someone. It was about how talking and speculating about H’s gender is invasive and disrespectful, how assuming or saying he’s not cis is not okay and… I have lots of thoughts about this. We, as people, categorize everything. This includes assigning strangers a gender. We assume everyone’s gender. The people who serve us food at restaurants, the bus drivers and cafeteria workers at schools. We automatically assign them a gender, it’s just what we do. It’s not wrong, it’s not something that needs to be stopped, it’s just part of being human. And as humans, we all have a gender, whether it be a binary gender, one outside it, or the absence of gender, we all share the experience of gender and how we express it.
Harry is first and foremost a human, but he’s also a public figure. The majority of his life has been picked apart and dissected. From who he’s dating, to the car he drives, he’s no stranger to invasive probing into his life. Now, when we talk about Harry as a public figure, and knowing the industry he’s in, we can collectively agree that the music industry is extremely homophobic, especially towards men who’s core demographic are young women. Harry, who for all he’s said and done is queer, can’t even come out in 2022. He has done and said all the right things. He sang Medicine at cochella along with Boyfriends. He’s practically Freddie mercury incarnate on stage. For all intents and purposes he is a queer icon in pop music. He has never had to explicitly come out in order for people to pick up on the fact that he’s not straight. And he shouldn’t have to. Queer people don’t need to come out in order to be queer. They’re gonna be queer whether they’re out or not, whether they dress in rainbows or defy every stereotype out there. Now, when it comes to gender, it’s a similar but different story. We are just, in western society, recognizing genders beyond the two binary ones. Though they have existed in other cultures for centuries, due to colonization, they’re only just becoming accepted in western culture now. This means that as homosexuality is just becoming tolerated by the majority, trans and genderqueer identities are under attack and greatly misunderstood. Most people don’t even know what it means when I say I use they/them pronouns or identify as non binary- most people being adults. Youth are much more accepting as we are growing up with it becoming so normalized and common. But while the majority of the population being blissfully unaware of any gender identity outside man or woman, it’s hard to navigate the world as someone who doesn’t fit into its binary structures. But, what is nice is knowing that other genderqueer and queer people, even allies who are aware of everything will see me for who I am without explicitly needed to come out. Whether it’s asking for my pronouns, automatically defaulting to they/them, double checking what I’m okay with being referred to as, they just know that I’m not cis. They know because of the choices I make in the way I express myself. It’s the clothes I wear, my mannerisms, my jokes, my blatant display of masculinity and femininity in the same outfit. At my university, if you dressed androgynously, people just assumed you were nonbinary unless stated otherwise. It was protocol to ask for people's pronouns and gender. It was normal because gender wasn’t a thing that was shameful or something to be shoved away. Cis or not, gender was something to be celebrated. So when I look at H, and see so many queer codes that are recognized within the trans community it makes me think. I’m not making everything he does about gender, I’m just seeing things that stand out to me and make me go “that’s not something a cis man would do”. Not many cis men who are 21 would sit down and order womens jeans knowing he’d have to tuck to wear them. Not many cis men want to be female rock stars. Not many cis men relate to female mermaids or see themselves as a mermaid- a huge visual in the trans community in the uk. Not many cis men would write songs about the complexities of gender and the longing for the freedom to be feminine. A lot of trans and genderqueer people would though. And that’s not assuming anything. It would be had i said Harry’s trans because he painted his nails or wears a dress, it’s so much deeper and complex than that. Myself and so many other trans people recognize ourselves in H because of all the small, complex things that he does, that all we trans folks do. Me and other people pointing this out, bringing attention to our belief that H might be genderqueer is not invasive or disrespectful, it’s stating what we see and bringing it to light. I guarantee you that H could not care less about our Twitter threads or tumblr posts about his gender. I bet he giggles when he sees a tweet

My mom was talking to my aunt and was using they/them pronouns and I know it’s been hard for her to adjust but this was the first time she was using them without thought, like they just flowed naturally and with ease. I was in my room and I could hear her and I almost started crying because it just means so much. I’m so thankful that my mum is so supportive and does her best to understand and learn. It means the world to me.
