(Que chique, até aqui eu tô agora! [apanha]) Just a poor Brazilian ficwriter who LOVES Boueibu, Free!, YOI, Saint Seiya, Zoróscopo, Zodícopo and some other stuff...
|| Posts mainly in Portuguese and English (but please be patient, English is not my first language!). I can also understand Spanish.
To any fic writers who worry they are wasting their time... I read a fic for a relatively small and inactive fandom about three years ago. And there was one specific scene where a character watched another dancing like an idiot to a beyonce song and it was so sweet and loving that even now years later I have that song on one of my spotify playlist so every once in a while it will play and remind me of that fic, and every time it does I smile and feel a little happier.
The stats on a fic will never really tell you if your writing touched someone. There's no numerical way to show you what impact you made. Maybe you are wasting time, or maybe you are writing something that someone will remember for a long time, something that will never fail to make them smile.
How the heck do people write short fics??? Any time I try to plan something that I WANT to be small and simple, wHOOPS suddenly there's 50 characters navigating a lengthy plot with many shenanigans in order to save the world and people are dying probably. Not - everything - has - to - be - like - thiiiiiiis ugh. Short fic writers, please share your secrets!
There are a few things I do when I’m writing one shots and short fics:
have a simple, direct plot that doesn’t take a lot of twists and turns
just write one or two scenes with no particular ‘plot’ but an emotional goal
skip the details and descriptions for the most part
spend more time on dialogue and/or moving the plot forward than on giving a full picture of the scenes
Extras / OCs that only serve one purpose don’t get full backstories and descriptions. They don’t need them. They’re lucky if they get more than a name.
When I’m writing short fic (which is most of the time), it’s more of a sketch than a painting. I’m getting the ideas across but I’m not filling in all the bits and pieces that I could.
Short fic authors: what advice do you have for anon? How do you manage to NOT write 300K?
Since lots of people are doing Whumptober and Kinktober and Fictober and other events, I’d just like to put it out there again that drabbles and ficlets and oneshots are stories in their own right.
Posting them as separate works makes them easier to find, easier to filter, easier to reread. Posting them in as separate works in a series allows readers to subscribe to the series and get notified of each new story you post, just like they’d be notified of each new chapter in a single fic.
Posting them as separate fics also lets readers know which tags and characters and ships are involved in each separate story so they can better decide which stories are for them and better filter out the ones that they won’t enjoy.
Plus, you can only kudos a single story once. Let them show you all of their love!
Short fics are still fics. Please consider posting them independently from each other. 🧡🖤
Yknow, when you keep insisting that adults can’t enjoy fandom or play video games or what cartoons or whatever, it’s other young people that you’re hurting the most. Because the most you’ll do to adults is offend or annoy them with that nonsense, but when you plant that idea in a kid’s head, they grow older with the horrible dread looming over them that the things that bring them happiness and comfort have an expiration date. When I was a young adult, I was genuinely depressed about the thought of getting older because I thought I couldn’t keep enjoying all my hobbies, like I had to give up everything I enjoy once I reach [x] age.
And that is simply not true. It’s bullshit. But the harm is does to people is very real. Kids are so afraid of getting older, and one of the big fears is that their life will become painfully bland and boring once they hit adulthood, as if all adults do is work and pay taxes, possibly raise kids. No more fun, no whimsy, no playfulness, no joy.
Anyway, I’m 33 and I love video games and fanfiction and cartoons. If you tell me I’m too old for that stuff, I’ll roll my eyes and block you and go on with my day. But I will worry about the 17 year old who saw your post too and feels a sinking in their chest at the thought that they have to give up the stuff that makes them happy. THAT’S what bothers me.
I totally see Isaac having the same kind of thought here - perhaps in a slightly more nervous tone, the poor thing. As for Jean, maybe he wouldn’t even have done anything naughty in dates like these, I suppose.
I’m sorry if this is offensive and maybe I’m just really pea-brained, but I can’t grasp how someone can capture the raw appeal of men with such pinpoint precision while having zero attraction to them. Is it that you exclusively date women, hold a small amount of attraction to men, but just choose not to date them? Sorry if this is invalidating to you as a lesbian in any way. I know my share of being invalidated, given that I’m a bi woman, but I just had to know.
I’m not even remotely attracted to men and I never have been, I’m just a very good writer
The funny thing is that I was able to see this scene under a brand new light after finishing Shakespeare’s Romantic Ending.
I mean, when I first played the aberrant event (his route hadn’t been released yet), I was wondering whether Shakespeare was joking with a straight face — maybe to make them see the absurd of the situation — or even being seriously trying to show himself as a good friend while getting stuff from his plays that he kept at home. Of course, there was that spicy innuendo, but I was just “Oh, that would be hot, hahaha, nice joke!”.
Reading again after his route, though… ooooh boy, this scene IS SO MUCH MORE interesting 😏
Vincent: tie me down!
Will: rope or silk
Mc: WHERED YOU GET THOSE. PUT THOSE AWAY
My favorite scene.
Wills been waiting for Vincent to say those words for a while
