More Princess Diary please! Have you also read books from this?
I have not read the books, but I'm rewatching both movies now. If I end up writing a fic for it (which, it's looking like I might) it'll go differently than the movies/books. I'm also re-obsessed with the movie 'First Daughter' and would like to take some scenes from that as well (if you haven't seen it, 10/10 recommend it). Also, FYI, I'm starting a new job, so Idk how fast I'll reply to stuff, but I promise I'm seeing it all!
“He’s who?”
“Your father.”
Spider looked towards his mother. “I thought I didn’t have one of those.”
“Spider, of course you have a— “
“How sure are we about that?” He wrinkled his nose. “I mean, maybe I’m, like, the next Jesus or somethin’.”
Paz snorted. “Baby, this is serious.”
Then why are you laughing? He thought to himself.
“Why does he want to meet me now?” He gestured towards himself with a frown. “I mean, he’s about fifteen years too late to play house, don’t you think?”
“It’s complicated. He’s an important person in Genovia— “
“That little pear country?”
“— and we wanted to make sure you wouldn’t be in danger during the war.” She rubbed her shoulder, the place where Spider knew an old army tattoo was hidden. “We met when I was at the end of my tour. And, when we realized you were coming, well . . . it was safest for me to head for Pandora.”
That . . . kind of made sense. It was also the most information Spider had ever gotten about his father. When he was younger, he used to ask all the time. Where’s my Papa? Why isn’t he here? Do I get two mamas since I don’t have a papa, like Sue in my art class?
“It’s not dangerous anymore?”
Paz hesitated. “The war is over. And, he flew all the way here because he wanted to see you.”
“Where’s he staying?”
His mother scratched her head, glancing towards her coffee. “The Genovian consulate.”
Spider blinked. “Who exactly is this guy, mom?”
“Uh . . . “ She shrugged. “He’s sort of the . . . King?”
“The Tire King? The Burger King?”
“The . . . Genovian . . . King.” Spider’s jaw dropped. “Holy fuck.”

PRINCESS DIARIES/FIRST DAUGHTER AU (W/ A TWIST)
Spider, who grew up in the city of Pandora with his mom, Paz.
He spent most of his days with his best friend, Lo’ak and his siblings at their apartment. Skateboarding, ditching gym, avoiding the popular kids and drinking their body weight in coffee.
His mom is an artist and they live in an apartment a few blocks down from his friends.
It’s not perfect; they don’t have a lot of extra money to go around, the water pressure is shot, and the piercing he let Lo’ak give him two weeks ago is infected as hell. But, it’s a good life.
Until his father shows up.
The King of Genovia, famous for his heavy military force and trying to start a war against the United States over a decade before, allied with the large country with a name so long it was known worldwide as simply RDA. The small country was controversial for more than one reason, but the King, Miles Quaritch, was making attempts to secure his rule.
That’s where Spider came into the picture.
Spider, with his long, always-messy hair and crooked smile. Spider, who went by a nickname earned in kindergarten and got mostly B’s in school. Spider, plain old Spider.
Spider, the Prince of Genovia.
I'll probably make another part, but I haven't watched Princess Diaries in a hot second, so I'll be back after rewatching 1 and 2.

Will you ever write anything with modern au again? I love Days into Decades!
I don't have any plans atm, but I do have some ideas for another modern au! So, it's a possibility for sure! I do think I like writing modern au's more than anything set on Pandora, mostly cuz it gives me a bit more freedom with what I write, so that'll mostly likely be what comes next.

As for the fic with fem Spider, maybe you would add a scene where S is getting her period and Quaritch is, you know, an awkward but trying to help dad?
That's a good idea! I do think it'd be SO awkward on both parts. Like, to this day my own dad doesn't know I have a period. So, I imagine it'd go something like this:
Spider frowned down at her feet, contemplating the plausibility of her making it to the medbay without anyone noticing her.
"What's wrong Tiger?"
Spider frowned harder, glancing up at Quaritch. "Nothin'."
"Doesn't look like nothin'."
"Is Z around?" She asked, glancing around the Recom's quarters. If she had to admit it to someone, she did not want it to be him.
"No. She's at the mess."
Of course she is.
"I've got to go to the medbay." She mumbled, standing up.
He grabbed her by the shoulder, scanning her for injuries. "What happened? And don't say nothing."
She winced. "Headache."
"Bullshit."
"It's personal." She grumbled quietly. "Trust me, you're better off not knowing."
"Spider, you've got three seconds to tell me what's- "
"I got my period!" She yelled suddenly, glaring up at her not-father. "Happy, now?"
Quaritch's face contorted. "Uh . . . "

MAJOR SPOILER FOR BRIGHTSIDE
I wrote this a little while ago and just reread it. I love it too much to keep it to myself, so here's a sneak peak into way further into this fic.
“Spider, come on, sweetheart.” Jake beckoned, arms reached forward. “I’ll catch you, I promise.”
Sweetheart? When had Spider been called anything but, well, Spider? Kiri was baby girl, the boys were buddy and son. Tuk had too many nicknames to keep count of. But, her? Jake had never cared enough to call by anything like sweetheart. Spider had never been delicate enough for such a word.
Her Dad had nicknames for her. Plenty of them. Tiger and Sport, Buddy and Kiddo. It seemed like he did everything he could to avoid saying her name, to keep from acknowledging her as Spider.
Both of them, pulling her in a direction she didn’t want to go.
“Spider, c’mon!” He shouted, desperate. Trust me, he seemed to be yelling at her.
In the months— and oh, it had been months —she’d been stuck with the recoms, all she’d wanted was to be saved. So, why did something about it feel so wrong?

Next chapter (also available on AO3)
Spider’s day had started out badly. None of the Avatars were out, some sort of malfunction causing a all-hands-on-deck situation. That in itself wasn’t all that bad, except Norm had insisted she stay in her room all day because nobody could ‘take her’ to visit her friends. As if she hadn’t taken herself a million times before. She’d snuck out when nobody was looking, hoping to at least do something fun before she got in trouble for leaving (if they even noticed she was gone).
“You’re too little.” Lo’ak insisted that morning, the same way he told Tuk she was too young to join them on their adventures. Him and Kiri were going to go on a hunt, somewhere deep in the forest. Somewhere restricted. Spider had overheard them conspiring earlier that morning and decided she’d be going with them.
“I’m just as big as I was yesterday.” She reminded, crossing her arms in front of her.
The Na’vi boy huffed. “Yeah, well, look how well it went last time.”
Spider’s hand went up the the scars across her shoulder, the raised lines bumping under her fingers. “That’s not fair.”
“Life isn’t fair.” He snapped. “Just— why don’t you go help Grandmother collect herbs or something?”
“Why don’t you go eat Palulukan shit?” She asked rhetorically, scooping up her bow and storming in the opposite direction of Mo’at’s home.
She would go hunt on her own and catch something big enough to feed the whole family. She’d need to get help carrying it back, but Neteyam could be bribed to help and he was good at keeping secrets. If Lo’ak asked, she’d say she carried it— whatever it was she found —all the way back on her own.
Lo’ak was too loud, anyways. Spider was small, but she was fast and quiet, minus the soft wheeze of her mask. Besides, she was older, the oldest of them all. If she was able to bond with an Ikran, she’d have been considered an adult by Na’vi standards. Neteyem was almost a whole year younger than Spider and he had passed all his tests.
It made her mad, just thinking about it all. She wanted to punch something or scream. Instead, she ran. She ran and ran, until her chest hurt from how hard it was to breathe. She ran until her legs felt liquid and her mask fogged up from her breaths. She ran until she couldn’t and then she sat and she cried.
She hated crying. Always had. When she was younger, everyone at the lab would always freak out when they saw tears, like she was dying or something. She’d learned early on to hide it when she’d needed to cry, when she was too angry to do anything but sit and let the angry tears flow.
Spider was sixteen, but she felt no older than six. Sitting at the base of a large tree, the grass itching at her legs and shorts getting slightly damp from the cold ground. She dropped her bow at her side, curling her bare toes into the dirt and pressing her hands against her heaving chest in an attempt to stop the racing beat of her heart.
Lo’ak sucked. They all did. She shouldn’t have left the lab, shouldn’t have—
Ugh.
                                                                                                                                                                      ‘
She shouldn’t have thought Lo’ak was still her friend.
Spider blindly reached for her belt, untying her songcord and holding it up in front of her. It was short and frayed and most of the beads were flawed. Kiri had helped her start it when she was six, filling in the start of her life with beads they’d made themselves. There were ten in total, marking the moments in life she’d deemed important enough to record. The other kids her age had more, but Spider didn’t think much of her life was worth remembering. In comparison to everyone else, she was boring.
Spider’s first bead, marking her birth, was a piece sawed off of her first crib, a dresser drawer padded with pillows. The plastic-like material was soft and smoothed after so long, as plain as the rest of Spider. Neteyam’s birth was marked next, followed closely by Kiri’s. She ran a thumb over the bead marking Lo’ak’s birth, a piece of ember holding a drop of his blood. All of her friends were marked that way, even though she’d burnt her fingers melting the droplets and had to sneak around to get them without making it a big deal.
By the time she’d gotten to Tuk’s birth bead, three other badly-made beads had been woven into her cord. Her first bow, her first hunt, and the worst fever she’d ever had. After that, she’d stopped eating all the Na’vi foods she’d came across, sticking to what she knew was safe.
Spider hadn’t wanted to mark down the Palulukan attack at all. She was scarred enough to never forget it. But, Neteyam, of all people, had saved a tooth from the animal that attacked her. He’d barely waited for her to wake up before asking for her cord and tightly braiding it on.
That one was her last bead. The following year had been filled with PT and schoolwork inside the lab. Norm, who’d always been worried about Spider and her frailness, had been especially hesitant to let her leave after the incident. Jake had taken her bow for a half-year, until he’d found her trying to make herself a new one. Even Neytiri, who’d always been relatively uncaring when it came to Spider, had started making her wait for a chaperone each night when she tried to head home. It was like that one moment had transformed the way everyone saw her and not in a good way.
She considered adding a new bead. Something to represent the change in how everyone saw here. Or, maybe if she really was angry enough, a new bead to mark the last time she talked to Lo’ak. Spider had gone over a year without talking with her foster parents, the McCosker’s, when she was younger, after her first (and last) haircut. Eventually, they ran away to the RDA when the Sky People returned, leaving her behind. But, she was sure that even if they had stayed, she wouldn’t have spoken to them ever again.
She was so caught up in her anger, she didn’t notice anyone coming until it was too late.
“Spider?”
Her head snapped up, eyes locking onto the Na’vi as she emerged from the thicket. “Tuk?”
“Are you okay?” She asked, sitting herself next to Spider and twisting one hand in the hem of the older girl’s shirt. The hem of the tank top was frayed, little strings coming loose where it rested against her belly button.
“I’m fine. Did you follow me all by yourself?” She sighed at the hesitant nod she got in answer. “Tuk, you know you aren’t supposed to leave camp by yourself.”
“But, you’re sad.” She said, as if that made any rules go out the window. Spider sighed, wrapping an arm around her. They were nearly the same size, Tuk just a few inches shorter than her. Still, it was obvious in everything she did that she was still just a carefree little kid.
Neteyam and Lo’ak used to be like that. When they were kids, they’d go fishing and get Ikran rides from Jake. Since the return of the RDA, both boys had been forced to become men. Kiri didn’t see action, but she saw the victims of the battles, saw people heal and saw others . . . not.
Spider missed when they were all as innocent as Tuk.
“Thanks, Tuk-Tuk.” She smiled at the girl. “But, really, I’m fine. Now, we should really get back before your Grandmother notices you’re— “
A branch snapped somewhere close by. Both girls cocked their heads towards the sound, listening. Voices. Humans. They were speaking English.

Chapter One of BRIGHTSIDE
Spider had always been an outsider. It didn’t matter if she was around humans or Na’vi, around the young or old. It didn’t matter, because her father was a monster. It didn’t matter, because although Spider couldn’t remember either of her parents, she was a reminder of all the bad they did.
Jake had said it once. He didn’t mean for her to hear it, probably. She’d gotten in a fight with Kiri, over a wooden Ikran that got broken when they were playing. It ended with Kiri pulling her hair and Spider pinching her arm, at which point the adults stepped in and separated them. Neytiri had punished Kiri while Jake took Spider back to base camp early. She was six or seven, maybe, still too young to visit the Omaticaya without an adult accompanying her.
“You can’t fight with the others.” He told her as they flew, one arm wrapped around her front so she wouldn’t fall off. “They’re bigger than you and sometimes they don’t realize their own strength.”
The lecture wasn’t anything new. Spider was always and would always be the weakest link. Lo’ak was two years younger than her and even he was bigger than her already. She ‘hmphed’ a response, brow furrowing in annoyance.
Jake sighed. “How about I make you a brand-new toy? I’m sure it’ll be much better than Neteyam’s hand-me-downs, huh?”
She crossed her arms in front of her, digging her elbow into Jake’s arm. “I liked that one.”
It wasn’t really about the toy Ikran— if it was, then her mood would’ve been easily changed by a ride on a real Ikran, which can actually fly and take her with. It was about the fight, how Kiri got to stay at camp and Spider had to go back to the stupid lab and the extra-stupid scientists. There were only, like, two other kids there and they were both way younger than her. And they all thought she was weird. Norm would make her put on shoes and too many layers when she got back, Max would probably try to make her do more schoolwork. She hated the lab.
“You can come back in two days, okay?” Jake offered, seeming to sense her mood. “I’ll even come pick you up, so you don’t have to wait for the slow-pokes. How does that sound?”
“Two days?” She whined, turning to glare up at Jake. He was looking forward, too high up for her to be seen, so she tugged sharply on his hair.
“Hey, it’s not— “ He cut himself off as he finally peered down at her, eyes suddenly widening. She wondered if he saw something down below, behind her. But, no, he was staring at her like he’d never seen her before.
“Jake?” She asked, features morphing from angry to scared.
He seemingly snapped out of it as his Ikran jerked below him, startling him back from whatever had happened. Spider, as emotional as most six-maybe-seven-year-olds were, was already starting to cry, startled by whatever had come over the man.
“Are y— you mad at me?” She mumbled, tears starting to drip down her cheeks. “Are you gonna— are you gonna tell everyone I— I— I can’t go back to the forest?”
A big hand reached up, as if to brush away tears. Unable to breach the mask, Jake settled for pulling her closer, trusting his steed to keep them steady.
“No, I’m not mad.” He assured, cupping the back of her head with one hand. “It’s okay, I’m sorry, it’s okay.”
By the time they landed, Spider had mostly stopped crying. Jake carried the girl inside, peeling off the mask and setting her down once they’d been through the airlock. Max was waiting near the door, frowning at the tear tracks on the girl’s face. Eclipse was still hours away, meaning everyone expected Spider to be gone for a long time yet to come.
“Is everything alright?” He asked, scanning the little human for injuries.
“I— “ Spider cut herself off, feeling like she was about to start crying again. Instead, she just shook her head, running towards her room.
She ended up crying in bed for another few minutes until she felt better, sure that Jake was already gone by the time she got back up. But, she’d been wrong.
She hated the feel of the shoes trapping her toes, making her always quiet footsteps loud as she crept towards the lab. She hated socks and dresses and most of all, shoes. But, she also hated when people were angry at her and she really wanted to ask Max for a hug. And some food, ‘cause she hadn’t gotten lunch yet and she was too short to reach the rehydrator buttons.
As she neared the lab door, she heard voices echoing into the hallways. The door was always closed to the lab, but she must’ve left it open on accident when she’d run away.
“I feel like such an asshole.” That was Jake’s voice.
“What even happened out there, man?” Max asked, voice quiet. “Spider barely ever cries.”
“She furrowed her brow and I swear, it was like I was staring at Him again.” Jake groaned. “The next thing I know, she’s crying and it’s her again. But, I . . . “
“Quaritch is dead. And Spider is nothing like— “
“I know that, Max. But, I just . . . it’s just hard, sometimes.”
Max sighed. “It’s hard for all of us. I mean, every day she looks more and more like . . . like both of them.”
Spider had snuck back into her room before she could hear anything more. But, the words had stuck with her. It was the first time she’d heard anyone talk about her like that, but it wasn’t the last.

I'm Back!
Sorry for ghosting for a little while, I've been buried in school and honestly got kinda obsessed with The Walking Dead for a minute there. I'm gonna try and do this fic for fun while I work on my book, JUDE (I couldn't come up with a cool name, so I just named it after the main character XD).

Me? A new fic? Whattttttt . . .
Spider grew up knowing she didn’t matter.
She was an orphan, only useful as a lab rat to study or an assistant to help the scientists with their work. The fifteen-year-old spent her days gathering herbs and human-safe foods for meals and various experiments. Her only friends were a whole different species, taller and stronger and faster than her. It was only right that she’d be left in the dust every time.
That’s why she wasn’t surprised when the Sully’s left her behind.
Welcome to my newest fic, BRIGHTSIDE (title taken from the Lumineers, iykyk) First chapter now up on Ao3!

(Excuse typos, my laptop broke so this is all via the phone and I'm very tired)
I really like the idea that part of why Neytiri is distant/cold to Spider is more to do with him being so fragile (and her not wanting to face anymore loss) than him being a sky person. Like, she's accepted Jake and all that and prob chills w Norm and Max at the very least.
I wrote a near-death childhood experience for Spider a while ago and I kind of keep linking it to why Neytiri never took him in like she did Kiri (beyond the obvious; Kiri is the daughter of a friend, Spider the son of an enemy; Kiri is one of the People, Spider "can't be").
Idk, just kinda like trauma bonding but the opposite I guess? Like, there was a traumatic experience that drove her away from him rather than closer I guess.
*shrugs* whatever, lmk what y'all think. Also, if anyone knows any good laptops/Chromebooks $200 or under, please lmk. I'm in the USA, so Best Buy, Walmart, etc is what I'm looking at. Thanks in advance!
