Kageyama approached the carriage, offering you a nervous hand. With a quiet, “thank you,” you took his hand and stepped down.
Once you reached the path, you curtsied. “Your Highness.”
Tobio bowed, raising your gloved hand to his lips, like his father taught him to do. “Your Highness.”
The rest of the formalities passed swiftly, but when it came to speaking to each other, both he and you were speechless, caught up in studying the other. That is, until you finally relented and held out a hand—one for shaking, not for kissing.
“It’s very nice to finally meet you, Prince Kageyama,” you said, your smile still strong. “I’m excited for what’s to come.”
“Me, too.” Tobio reached out to take your hand in his—solemnly, like two comrades would before rushing into the unknown. They wouldn’t know what the future holds.
Neither will we.
