Living room beat progress update 12\16\23

Hi gang, are you ready for your scheduled progress update? I sure am the worlds most consistent writer. well anyway ive been doing some planning for a4 and im gonna kinda explain my current roadmap here.

-do end of a3 animation

Yeah i havent done it yet, ive just been procrastinating. Anyway though its gonna be a short one and it wont take long so this isnt like a major deal or anything.

-do a4

I have the events of a4 planned in detail already in a text file so all i have to do is write the dialogue and turn it into comics. Ive said it before and ill say it again: a3 was WAY too many comics. There were so many comics that were just a couple of words and thats just completely stupid. A3 couldve been like 100 comics but instead ended up at 300+ because i did it like an idiot. But im not gonna do that with a4, it will be pretty short in comic number but each one will have loads of dialogue. It will be super efficient.

-post

I might actually post a3 before finishing a4, but again a4 is going to be super short in page count so it probably wont take TOO long to actually make, so waiting til after its done isnt completely unreasonable.

-do new website

Blogger sucks, its a terrible platform, so im gonna make a new website and host it on github pages. It will be made so that it is super easy for me to bulk upload LOADS of new pages at once so that i wont keep putting it off like ive been doing with the rest of a3. It will be all automatic and everything so i dont have to spend multiple hours on it lol. I will also be able to do bulk changes to the page format so i dont have to go individually through each post and change it. Maybe even a back button????

-do a lot of the story

This is a super vague bullet point but i just kinda want to make my way a fair chunk through the story before doing the next point because it would be kinda annoying to just be halted after a4 for ages.

-go back and redo a0 through a3 (and maybe a4, well see how that turns out)

Ive already said it in this post but a0 through a3 kinda just suck, theres loads of changes i would make now if i made them, so i plan to go back and change them. This would also make lrb more accessible for new readers because they dont have through over 100 pages for it to get 'ok'. I also plan to have a summary page to catch people up on the story of a0 through a4 quickly so that they can get into a5 and beyond. I will probably only keep that summary page until ive finished remaking a0 through a3, but i will post it after a4 as a4 is a good break off point in the story (youll see).

-do rest of the story

This is pretty self explanatory. Theres loads of story to go.

Among all of these points is also planning a5 and beyond as what i said before isnt true. I originally wasnt going to change the actual story i had planned but i changed my mind on that, the main story is being changed quite a bit.

The thing is i noticed the problems with the structure but didnt notice the ROOT cause of those problems, the fact that the characters act as too much of a conglomerate and have literally 0 independence.

Ok what do i mean by that. Well basically all of the alternate reality versions of streve and brian, and even streve and brian themselves, could be compressed into 1 character reasoning their decisions out with themself. They have 'disagreements' but they dont have any REAL disagreements, they always come around and end up acting as a group in the end.

Now is this because im a bad writer? Probably but i can (try to) fix it in future parts of the story. So im gonna do that.

I also plan to make more social media for the comic rather than just tumblr and reddit. Like a twitter even though that site is dying.

I also also need to come up with a name to sign these posts with. All webcomic authors have some name they go by, i dont. So ill come up with one. Anyway thats all i have to say for this progress update. This one ended up being super long so hopefully that makes up for me missing so many. See you next saturday.

Progress update 12\11\23

Yo!! Ive been randomly gone for like 20 days so heres a progress update finally! Im going to post the rest of a3 eventually, tbh i just couldnt be bothered because uploading pages is super tedious, it takes about 2 minutes per page, which doesnt sound that bad but when i have to upload almost 100 pages in one session that means it takes over 3 hours to upload! and it is a super tedious process too. So i kinda just kept putting it off because of that. Eventually i would like to make a new website where i can just bulk upload all of the pages super quickly. But you cant do that with blogger and i cant code lmao.

But while ive been putting off uploading the pages ive been kinda thinking about the problems with the comic as it stands. A3 did not need to be 300+ pages long, it couldve been a third of that, but i kept putting a single line onto each individual page, which resulted in the page count being way too high. But that is a simple problem to fix, just put more lines onto each page in the future. So im gonna do that with a4 and beyond.

But there is also a problem that has been kinda cropping up as ive been turning my plan in the google doc that i plan the comic in into actual comics, and i could go on a long rant about this for thousands of words but i wont do that because that would be super annoying. There would also be loads of spoilers. So instead im just gonna say that there was a major problem with the structure and progression of the story which was rooted at the foundation of the entire plot, and i have been thinking about how to fix it for all of these (around) 20 days. But now today i finally figured it out, so im gonna post the rest of the pages soon-ish whenever i get around to it and then i will work to restructure the rest of the story A LOT. The structure will be COMPLETELY CHANGED. The actual story itself wont be changed tho. But yeah anyway thats the update. Sorry about being a bit vague but i couldnt go into more detail without spoilers.

(late) Progress update 11\20\23

Yo sorry about not posting this progress update on saturday! Its ironic and very in character that literally the first update after i say im gonna start being consistent on progress update days is late. I got super sick, so i wasnt really able to post it. I swear this is the last delay!

Im gonna give some proper numbers on how much there is left to do. I have written the script for the rest of act 3 in a text document and i am turning it into actual comics line by line. I have 256 lines to go. Each line is usually equal to a single comic, but sometimes there are multiple lines to only 1 comic. Either way, i have around 200-250 comics still left to do.

That may sound bad, and as if it will take a long time, but the time is decreased by a lot because i have already written all of the dialogue so all i need to do is copy and paste it from the document.

Im gonna go work on the comic now rather than keep rambling here. Sorry again for the repeated delays, i SWEAR this will not be the norm, this is taking WAY longer than i wanted it to. Remember when i said i would release it in late october to early november? Ahaha, sorry

Progress update 11\11\23

Yo, progress is coming along at a steady pace, not many specific details to update on as its all major spoiler stuff. In a more meta update sense, i want to say that this isnt going to be the norm, me saying that the next act is going to come out way before it does and then saying 'sorry it took longer than expected', in future i will be much more consistent! There were just a bunch of unexpected things that happened during the creation of this act that slowed it down a lot.

Regarding the release of the rest of act 3, i plan to schedule the date to post it when i've finished it. I'll probably post it on the next wednesday after i finish it or something like that, and all the time between the actual finishing of the act and the release will be used to begin work on the next act. I want to have this specific structure to my scheduling.

On that note, ive decided to start doing updates every saturday, which is what this is. The time on the saturday that i post the update, the length of the update, etc. are going to be inconsistent still, but every saturday i will write a small note here about what progress ive made.

Again though, sorry for this act taking so long! The amount of content in this act after this amount of time probably is going to disappoint, but this will not be the standard! There is a fair bit more work to do on the act, but hopefully i will have it done to be able to post on the 22nd (or, and this is a stretch, maybe the 15th). No guarantees, though.

Oh and also im not going to be doing the comics where the entire panel is covered in a massive wall of text (like 3-4 to 3-12) anymore. It wasnt good structuring and was super daunting from a reader perspective. So im not gonna do it anymore.

Hey dont have much to say right now, i just wanted to say that act 3 is taking a bit longer than expected so its going to be out later than expected! Dont worry it shouldnt be too long, im like 95% sure ill be able to finish it before the end of november. Probably in the first half of november. Thats pretty much it for now!!

Progress update 10\23\23

Wow, 23 23 what a day. Anyway ive started writing just the script for the next parts of the comic before turning that script into actual proper comics with drawings and such. Idk if this is faster but the part im working on is very dialogue heavy so its good to be able to edit the full manuscript before fully sealing everything into image files. I wrote a little over a thousand words today so far, i might work on more later today but well see. Anyway the main point is that progress is coming along well. The rest of act 3 will either release in late october or early november unless plans change.

UPDATE ON ACT 3

Living room beat hasnt had an update in 9 days so i figured i should probably explain why, bc it might seem like i abandoned it or something, which i havent. Ive been working on new comics this whole time (currently i have 48 comics sitting in my backlog).

The reason i havent been posting them as i finish them like i was doing before is because its actually super tedious to do that and its also pretty harmful to my workflow, i just work better and faster on the comic when i dont post so ive sorta just slipped into not posting.

Because of the benefit of not posting as i go, ive decided that from this point forward im going to just bulk post each act as i finish it, so im going to finish act 3 and just post it onto the site and then post act 4 a month or so later or whenever im done with that.

I also think this is better because im very inconsistent with WHEN i work on the comic, so it could get super annoying with me just posting 4 comics in the middle of the night that arent super important to the main ongoing narrative. It would probably feel like the story is moving at a snails pace and just not going anywhere which is obv not what i want.

Also, the comic is very much structured around binge reading despite me having been posting it as i go up until now, so this release structure will honestly just make more sense in all aspects.

Im also planning on posting maybe 3 or 4 comics from the next act whenever i post, so like when i post the rest of act 3 ill post 3 or 4 comics from act 4 to just give a taste of whats to come. After that ill just retreat into my cave and finish the rest of that act.

The only thing is i dont want to just not post for like 6 months or something as some of the future acts are going to be a lot longer than the current ones. So i think im gonna limit the backlog to 100 comics as that also coincides with the blogger daily post limit. Idk if ill ever actually get 200+ comics in a single act though. Well see.

But yeah i just wanted to update on that and say i havent abandoned living room beat. I dont really have an eta on when act 3 will be posted, currently im at 3-92 but theres still some more stuff that happens in this act, so who knows. Ill keep updating here every now and then.
