the way some people can take this like you are calling them racist for liking a white guy is interesting but i definitely don’t gaf about what the actors look like. im just saying that it’s a bit appalling how quick people were to take marcus out of the picture after sydney was shocked marcus asked her out like she was flustered and everyone acted like marcus was the bad guy but he mostly just picked a really funny time lol and ofc it made her uncomfortable for reasons i listed (the brigade hierarchy system) and she was caught off guard with the timing (soft opening she was probably thinking about a million things)
i also listed many more thoughts in the replies but i think chemistry wise marcus and sydney are good if not better than the romance between claire and carmy which felt like friendship honestly. sometimes casting is funny and it doesn’t matter how good of an actor someone is you can’t really fake chemistry. let’s see what the writers have gone with and hope they have sense to know it’s not fan service to explore complex elements about relationships even work ones since this one is all about the culinary world mixed with “work work work” hustle lifestyle
i think if marcus was white hardly anybody would be shipping sydney with carmy cause let’s be fucking fr… sydney and carmen’s dynamic is so different even without the hierarchy
including the brigade, marcus has been scolded by sydney before she is one ladder rung above him and sydney has taken so much shit from carmy her boss it’s taken them forever to be where they were at the end of season two
carmy is almost toxic most of the time i hate that fucking word but it’s the truth! i mean he’s human it’s perfectly normal to have a lot of emotions but the way he loses his cool. would you really wanna work or put up with someone like that? no but you encounter people like that in life all the time. at least he acknowledges when he’s being shitty and tries to apologize for it. it is exhausting still. and shit i don’t blame syd if she never feels anything but platonic feelings towards carm.
i just think it would be the more popular ship if marcus looked a certain way given that their friendship already feels like the start of something and most of the time carmy is just cordial with sydney im open to it still don’t get me wrong i love the idea of them
i feel like people always have trouble seeing the black character who’s a comrade anything more than a friend the same can be said about sydney and carmen but it just feels different when it comes to marcus because he’s a Man. i don’t wanna start a horrible negative discussion btw just sharing an unpopular opinion that’s why i brought it on tumblr cause who gives a shit tbh this is just a show that isn’t hurting anybody ​still like sydcarmy don’t come at me with words about hating them lol

when sydney is telling her story about how sheridan crumbled you can tell she is a pretty great storyteller even in season one when she talks to marcus about her life before the beef. most of the people at the bear /beef have that charisma gary, ebra, richie (unfortunately at times)the later one who does it as a way to honor mikey’s stories and seemed to get that from him
but sydney hasn’t really talked with the crew like that at least not from what we have seen on the show so i’m going to give my suggestion and hope that in season three sydney is chatting with the crew after or before service and getting close to them cause she seems chill when nobody is fucking going crazy and yelling at her and she likes to talk
i think that will end up making her closer to richie i think they’ll have conversations like that now that they have both mellowed down and seem to be on okay enough terms aka not trying to rip each others throats out
i see rich telling her about mikey and her telling him about her mom and just the similarities they share in general likewise how mikey would’ve felt about the new spot and her
