I’m calling it here, dear fellow whiterose shippers, I think we might have to give up. Episode 9 felt like they were building up for Weiss and Jaune together (and I hate it).
Okay, I’ve spent about 3 days ruminating on Ruby’s rant moment and I’m still pretty angry at Jaune for taking to focus away from Ruby and making it about himself.
I get it, Jaune, you’ve been alone here all this time in a constant loop and depression of thinking you’ve failed everyone, but get in line. Ruby FINALLY voices her thoughts and gets interrupted and it just feels like she’s getting sidelined again.
I’ve talked about this to anyone who would listen but Ruby’s view that she should put herself second ALLLLLLLLLLLLL the way at the beginning of the show is the most heartbreaking thing ever. Here she is, the youngest one out the entire school, thrust into a situation and not able to voice any of her problems while being the peacekeeper of her team.
There’s no way in hell they’re gonna handle everything this volume so I’m assuming volume 10 is when the Ruby trauma will get resolved.
ALSO! Really random, but Ruby’s expression when she starting ranting looked super familiar and for some reason I thought of Alyx but then I came on here and everyone immediately was like “Oh, that looked like Cinder” and now I’m worried this is gonna be Ruby’s villain arc lmao
But also, I feel like Ruby’s heading straight towards Neo so... Neo and Ruby confrontation time? Maybe they’ll be stuck on a bridge as well LOL
in hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have watched rwby at night
ngl I woke up every single person in the house with my screeching when I watched rwby. I don’t screech.
I. Don’t. Screech.
That’s just not what I do.
Think “stoic, at most laugh or an “oh wow!” when excited” type.
But the build up, the transitions, the dialogue.
UGH, it was all so good!! 10 years in the making, man. 10 years. Now that is what I call slow burn. Love how everyone who has worked on rwby was excited for that a moment as well.
Anyways, in the end my brain couldn’t calm down and I am sleep deprived... but happy!
They're showing us their evolutions. You can see that volume 1-3 Weiss doesn't look happy, but that the she looks more determined in her volume 4-6 self. Volume 1 Blake looked serious, and her volume 4-6 self looked almost angry and very determined too. Yang smiles in both v1-3 and v4-6 self, but they're also different smiles; brightly and then a determined smirk.
And now their current selves?
Weiss is smiling brightly, and both Blake and Yang have confident smiles on their faces as well. The three of them went through major character arcs throughout the volumes that led them to change to be the people they are at the time. And their smiles? It shows that they like themselves now. They're happy with who they are.
Ruby?
Her first self is smiling, but her v4-6 self just looks... Tired. Not angry, not determined. Tired and sad.
Okay, wait, give me a moment because I’m not okay.
Someone mentioned that Jinxy’s price is based off of the object: Yang’s arm = knowing how it feels to be loved, because it’s kinda what started bumbleby, which, yeah, I don’t know if I’d give that price either.
But Ruby’s price for Penny’s sword is freaking TRAGIC. Enough Hope to fill the jar? Bruh, Penny’s sword is the symbolism of WHY she doesn’t have any hope left and if Ruby had any left, she would’ve lost it anyways after seeing that sword! Ugh someone just give Ruby a hug, please, because she needs to cry and talk about it. (I still can’t believe Penny got killed a SECOND TIME and AFTER SHE WAS FINALLY TURNED INTO A REAL HUMAN, it’s like at the end of Pinocchio, they just shoot him).
I’m so here for this volume being Ruby’s arc though (I’m hoping the OP doesn’t mislead me, the OPs have been spoilers for the whole volume, I hope that hasn’t changed) because despite everyone having time to go through their thoughts and feelings and come out of it stronger than before, Ruby has not had that luxury and I really want her to.
She’s the youngest in the team and yet she’s had to be leader this whole time. She’s had to be strong because, as she said to Jaune in the first volume: “she’s a leader now, and she can’t fail because it’s not about her anymore, it’s about everyone else” and girl, please, you gotta take care of yourself. You see her lose hope and break down a little going against Ironwood AND Salem at the same time, but she still never got the time to really process it all because she needed to come up with a plan fast.
I also feel like the rest of the team knows Ruby is not feeling well/depressed because they’re trying their best not to look at Ruby for all the answers and direction like they had for the past 8 volumes and not asking her what they should do.
Anyways, I’m excited for volume 9 (read: more RWBY), can you tell?
I have gotten AT LEAST 5 other people interested in watching RWBY and it is slowly starting to spread out from there, so I am excited for this migration.
In the last week I've seen more and more people on twitter saying they were starting RWBY and like. Is this it. Is the sapphic migration already happening
