I decided to sift through replies/reblogs for answers instead of getting my work done, so here’s some suggestions for What To Do Instead:
There's a bunch of adhd advice out there that's like "people with adhd tend to work better under deadlines due to the anxiety so here are ways to artificially induce a stress response in order to get you to get work done" and it's like well what if I don't want to be stressed out all the time in order to function
Reblog to let your followers know that they’re safe from jumpscares/screamers/etc from you on April 1st but they are NOT safe from getting boop’d like an idiot amen
A reminder for those of us with cats at Easter that lilies of ANY kind are BAD for cats. Some species such as Calla, Peace and Peruvian do not cause kidney damage or death like Easter and daylilies, but they can still cause irritation and gastrointestinal issues if ingested...
Adding on to everything above, I made a document full of links to various sensory tools, and the “oral” and “gustatory” sections have some stuff that would be helpful for toothbrushing!
Personally, I also don’t use toothpaste at all; I use Y-shaped flossers (but i don’t use them most days and usually only on like 1-4 teeth when I do, but this is a major improvement from previously never flossing); I brush in the shower (some people think it’s gross but I don’t see why) and that helps a lot with water-based sensory issues and lets me brush more thoroughly; and I have sensitive gums so for a while I used post-surgical (VERY soft) toothbrushes provided by my dentist, they don’t get teeth as clean as harder brushes but they almost don’t hurt
I have trouble taking care of my teeth because everything that involves doing that is a sensory nightmare. I decide to do some research to see if there's anything I can do about this. The results?
"How to make your autistic child brush their teeth"
"Autistic Children and Sensory issues relating to tooth brushing"
"How to get your little shit to brush his fucking teeth"
Like, yeah Google, thanks, that really helps. And like, even if I was a child, some of the advice seemed... unhelpful. Like, doing a dance and singing a song while brushing your teeth? Even for a kid, I don't think that would help distract from a sensory experience as intense as brushing your teeth. Like, the extremely intense and unpleasant flavor, the intense feeling of the brush against your teeth scraping across it, even mouthwash has such an intense and disgusting flavor that I have difficulty keeping it in my mouth for more than a few seconds. I wish there was SOMETHING that could be done.
$50,000 immediately dropped into my bank account wouldn't improve EVERYTHING but boy it sure would be a grand, sexy little start to a good, happy life path, don't you think
you will have a much healthier relationship with your own mental health if you stop seeing disorders as essential modes of being that you fall into or don't and treat them instead as models through which to view your experiences and put exactly as much stock in as you find they have useful explanatory power to you
hey why tf is renting considered the “cheap” option for “poor” people, as opposed to getting a house with a mortgage?
you can get an apartment with a bedroom, a living room with kitchen appliances in it, and a bathroom for about $1100 a month, if you can pay $3000 up front. I know because that’s my current situation. and you have very few rights or freedoms with an apartment, you’re charged out the ass for minor repairs (eg. $75 to replace a toilet seat; again, I know from experience), you have to pay to use shared laundry facilities, and with a place this small, you also probably need a storage unit (in my case, about $100 a month for a 10x10)
you can get a house with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, 1.5 bathrooms, and maybe even a basement for also about $1100 a month, if you can pay at least $4000 up front. I know because I almost did that. and you have a lot of rights and freedoms to modify your house and land, you’re allowed to fix things yourself or shop around for the cheapest services, you get your own laundry machines for only the cost of operation, and you can keep all your stuff in your house for free
so wtf, capitalism? why are poor people told to “just get an apartment” as if it’s fast, easy, and cheap? it’s exactly the same as a relatively-cheap house, except much shittier
