 In 2005, Marvel Cinematic Universe started freely delivering its own movies and circulating them through Paramount Pictures.. Previously, the studio had co-produced several superhero films with Columbia Pictures, New Line Cinema, and others, including a development deal with 20th Century Fox little profit from its licensing deals with other studios and wanted to make more money from its films while retaining artistic control over projects and distribution.5 Avi Arad, director of Marvel's motion picture division, was pleased with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films, but didn't with the others. As a result, it was decided to create Marvel Studios, the first major independent film studio since DreamWorks.

Arad's deputy Kevin Feige recognized that unlike Spider-Man and the X-Men, whose licenses belonged to Sony and Fox, respectively, Marvel still owned the rights to the main members of the Avengers. Feige, a fan of Marvel, managed to create a shared universe much like creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby had done with their comics in the 1960s. To raise capital, the studio secured funding through a revolving Loaned $525 million over seven years at Merrill Lynch.5 Marvel's plan was to release individual films of its main characters and then merge them intoone crossover film.8 Arad, who doubted the strategy but insisted that it was his reputation that helped secure the initial funding resigned the following year.69

In 2007, Kevin Feige was appointed head of the studio. To maintain its artistic integrity, Marvel Studios formed a creative committee of six people familiar with comics: Feige, Marvel Studios Co-President, Louis D'Esposito, Marvel Comics Editorial President Dan Buckley, the Marvel creative director Joe Quesada, writer Brian Michael Bendis, and Marvel Entertainment president Alan Fine, who oversaw the committee. Feige initially referred to the common continuity of these films as the "Marvel Cinematic Universe", but later adopted the term "Wonder Cinematic Universe". "Wonder alluded to the MCU as Earth-199999, inside the congruity of the organization's multiverse, a progression of fictitious imaginary worlds.
