Learn some vocabulary related to talking about your hometown in Japanese!
Ideal for listening practice regarding the ~があります and ~が見えます constructions, but also just a small insight into my life and where I live in Australia.
Also, this is a re-edit/re-purpose of an old video from 2017 (which I deleted from my channel), so it may look slightly outdated haha.
日本語が勉強している人のための動画ですけど、英語が勉強していて、南オーストラリアのアデレードへ来るつもり日本人ものための動画です。よろしくお願いします。

I shied away from including colors that are loanwords (like オリーブ色)because they are usually pretty self-explanatory. feel free to correct me if I made any errors, or add other colors you find important which I may have missed. If people make enough additions to add other advanced colors, I may end up making a part 2 for this post. Thanks for reading.

Video time!
Ever wondered what this "koto" (こと) is that you keep hearing in Japanese? How about why Japanese people sometimes say "koto" (こと) but then use the "no" (の) particle instead? Have you ever wondered how to use a verb or an adjective as the topic of a sentence in Japanese? Today I'm hopefully going to answer those questions for you with this video about nominalizers in Japanese!

ちょっと is one of the more useful and commonly used words in the Japanese language. Even if you’re very new to Japanese, it’s pretty likely you’ve come across ちょっと before, because it’s short, simple, and easy to say.
But not all ちょっとs are alike. For example, two of ちょっと’s meanings, “little” and “very,” contradict one another.
If I combine ちょっと with a word like 難しい, meaning “difficult,” it can mean either “a little difficult” or “very difficult.”
That’s a pretty significant change, don’t you think?
Luckily, learning the differences between all of these ちょっと usages should be as short and sweet as the word itself, so let’s get right to it!
Prerequisite: This article is going to use hiragana, kanji, and provide example sentences. A beginner level of grammar will be very helpful as well.

Let’s learn from Japanese conversation!
Today’s topic is “What do you want?”
Tumblr media
What do you want?
A: いま、なにがほしいですか? B: ミルクセーキとホットケーキがほしいです。 A: What do you want now? B: I want milkshake and hotcakes. A: そうですか? わたしもホットケーキをたべたいですよ!いっしょにたべましょう B: うわーいきましょう! A: Is that so? I also want some hotcakes. Let’s eat together! B: Uwaa! Let’s go!
…………………………………………
Important Points
Below are some points you might need to know~
About ほしい Although you can use ほしい (hoshii) to express what you want. You cannot use it to express what other people want. You can never know what other people really want so it’s impolite to talk as if you know about it. When you want to talk about other people, you need to use another word. We won’t share it for now, but just keep in mind that you can only use this word to talk about yourself or to ask what other people might want.
そうですか そうです (sou desu) is often used as a response to other people’s talking. Without ending particle か (ka) or ね (ne), it has a nuance which means “I see”. そうですか (sou desu ka) often translated as “Is that so?” or “Really?”. While そうですね often translated as “Right?” or “Isn’t it?”.
…ましょう Japanese conjugates their verbs to give additional meaning. Verbs conjugated with ましょう (mashou) have a nuance to ask other people to also do the action. So it’s often translated as “Let’s”.
うわー The stripe (ー) in this word means that the last kana sound is prolonged. So it shall be read as “Uwaaa~”
Happy learning °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°
