one day i will find my post about it but the final seasons for sam and dean are so about them becoming their parents in every awful way. dean becoming the possessive paranoid man blinded by his own fear and anger who priorities an idealized version of the people he loves over the real people standing in front of him and sam fading into less of a person and more of a symbol.

I have no idea! TLJ ticked me off so much that I haven't watched any new SW since.

That said, I think Jared resembles Mark Hamill and Hayden Christensen more than he does Harrison Ford or Adam Driver. I thought, and still think, that the sequel trilogy would've worked better if it had been set after a larger time jump, so that we could follow distant descendants/reincarnations/successors of the OG characters. Jared would've made an amazing distant-future Skywalker.

Supernatural S4E03 In the Beginning // S1E01 Pilot

Honestly, I have a hard time understanding why "Nightmare Logic" is getting so few votes compared to "Mint Condition," unless it's just dislike for Dean's weird jacket in "MC." Neither of them is bad enough to ruffle my feathers; neither is good enough to inspire fic and art and songs of praise. Both of them feel innocuous, yet forgettable.

"Beat the Devil" wins because it isn't forgettable. It isn't always good! But it does feel like it rewards my patience in putting up with the parts I don't like. Sam's confrontation with Lucifer has a zing! that most TV episodes (SPN or other) just don't have. "Nightmare Logic" has... um... Like I said, it's pretty forgettable.

I don't think the next episode will be hard to beat!

SUPERNATURAL 7.03 The Girl Next Door

"The Scar" is certainly better than Yadira Guevara-Prip's previous episodes, because 1) it isn't about the wayward sisters and 2) it doesn't promise dinosaurs that it never delivers. She's a capable actor, probably the best of the "wayward" cast, and she makes me feel for Dark Kaia in a way that I never did for Claire or Patience.

The gag about Sam's beard is cute. Yes, Sam, you look good with it. Some people like the beard. I even like the beard, and I'm generally not a beard-loving woman.

I'm less sold on this week's MacGuffin, a spear capable of wounding Michael. I can work with the idea of a spear from another dimension being more powerful here, but I cannot with the idea that it injures Michael without doing anything else. Remember how a the prime universe's less-powerful Michael's confrontation with Lucifer caused Earthquakes, before they could even start fighting? If she stabbed him hard enough to leave a scar-- if she even had a weapon strong enough for that to be possible-- shouldn't there be omens and warped reality and species going extinct in the Florida Keys? Besides, the episode ends with the Winchesters still not in possession of the spear, it has no spooky ghosts who parallel the Winchesters' sibling issues, and the part with the vampire heads is just stupid. Maybe Dark Kaia should reconsider her hiding strategy?

So, while I don't hate "The Scar," it just doesn't grab me. It's got the lowkey boredom of an episode that lacks complex characterization or pulse-pounding suspense, yet can't qualify for a genre that doesn't need those things. I do kind of hate parts of "Beat the Devil," but then, it does also have parts that grab me, so I'll take it over "The Scar."

Chuck: Hey all! Next up we have The Scar - Sam gets Dean home, and Dean doesn't like Sam's beard, or the random AU hunters milling around the bunker. Dean discovers a scar on his arm while changing for an offscreen wincest moment (see tags) and he, Sam and Jody go off to find dark Kaia and her Spear.

"Everybody Plays the Fool" is such a funny song for Crowley's first scene with the Winchesters. It isn't just apt for a crossroads demon; it's foreshadowing, because, as it turns out, even Crowley's been "fooled" by the Colt's reputation.

Giving it to the Winchesters, and the Winchester's scheme for using it, aren't exactly dumb moves; they're desperate. But, when you think them through, the level of wishful thinking becomes obvious. How could a handheld object made on Earth, of Earthly materials, drawing its power from an eclipse of our solar system, have taken out one of Heaven's 4 most powerful weapons? It'd defeat the purpose of creating such powerful weapons in the first place, and we already have holy oil to screw up narratives with angels.
