Crosshair: don’t you kriffing dare die on me
Tech: I have no intent on doing so…
Time for a rescue mission I recon 👀
This is basically a part two to this drawing! The brainrot for any Tech and Crosshair interaction is very real my guys, I just need them all to be happy 🥲

The Marauder’s lights were dimmed to emulate night. The only illumination in the ship came from the floor lights, control panel and the smear of stars as the ship zipped through the hyperlane.
Echo used the flattened and stretched starlight to see as he worked Tech’s mini air compressor around the head of his scomp. Small bits of metal and wire fell into the cloth across his lap; no wonder the thing hadn’t been turning smoothly since before he’d driven it into the head of that battle droid. He tucked the compressor away and tossed the debris into the scrap bag to be dealt with later.
He ran his left forefinger around the edge of the scomp and, with only a thought, made it spin. It turned smooth, slowed to a stop when he willed it. And for a moment he found himself marveling at how quickly you could get used to something so new, so strange.
Before his surgery on Anaxes, Kix had given him a choice to have the scomp removed. With the caveat that he had nothing, at the moment, to replace it with and it might be 30 rotations or more before they could make that happen. If they could.
Echo had chosen to keep it. Even if they’d had a mechno hand ready for him, he thought he might have chosen to keep it. It was...useful. Though he could admit—thinking of the empty sketchbook he’d found in the Tipoca City library, now tucked carefully away in his pack—there were some things he missed having a right hand for.
With a sigh, he spun the scomp once more, making sure it turned solidly. He’d need to remember to oil it when he got a chance; he’d left his bottle on Kamino, still not quite used to some of his new needs. In the back of his mind, he could hear Fives making a joke about him forgetting the lube.

I keep revisiting this bit, mentally. And after the most recent episode of TBB, I think I'm definitely keeping an idea I had for the second, larger part of this series.
Also, yes, I headcanon that Echo sketches. If you were able to see the reg manuals on his old datapad, in addition to underlined important bits and notes in the margins, there would be doodles.
Though I'm sure that's not the only thing Echo misses having a right hand for. Good thing the clones are pretty ambidextrous. (I'll show myself out.)

So at this point, if we get him back, we're not getting him back whole, are we?
There's no way the same writers who've spent an entire season lingering on Crosshair's PTSD would just give Tech a factory reset with a bump on the noggin'. And there's no longer time to give him a healing journey. The best we can hope for is open-ended optimism. The possibility that he might be himself again someday, in a future we'll never see.
It's starting to feel like a Faustian fucking bargain at this point.

After looking at all these hints and parallels put together in one place...
I have to reiterate how annoyed I'm going to be if they amount to nothing. (And given there's only one episode left....I'm preparing to be annoyed.)

I cannot get over how much this one scene informs us of Tech's priorities, personality, and how much he cares about his squad.
THE SCENE: "Replacements," season 1 episode 3; the Marauder is in dire need of repairs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene is often played for laughs (and let's be real, it IS hilarious). There's Tech, completely ignoring Echo's not-so-subtle hints to help fix the ship, instead prioritizing tinkering with his gadgets because his definition of "critical systems" is apparently vastly different than others'. Result? The ship crashes.
But... Tech is RIGHT to be concerned about the chips.
He has been warning his brothers about the chips since Order 66, multiple times throughout "Aftermath" and "Cut and Run."
Tumblr media
2. He suspected Crosshair was susceptible to the effects of the chip early on.
Tumblr media
3. He saw firsthand the friction caused between Crosshair and the rest of the squad due to the chip, with the ultimate result that Crosshair attacked the squad and shot Wrecker.
Tumblr media
OF COURSE he is going to prioritize creating a device that will test the functionality of their own chips - and I think he has two reasons for this.
First: Prevent further catastrophe by making sure no one else on the squad is at imminent risk of acting out like Crosshair did.
Tumblr media
Can you imagine what could happen if anyone else became susceptible to the chip's effects? (Oh yeah, we can: we see exactly what happens with Wrecker on Bracca.) Tech's not losing another family member the way he just lost Crosshair.
Second: Support his theory that Crosshair's actions ARE a result of the chip. (Omega talked to Crosshair about this (in a roundabout way) in the brig, but it's Tech who mentions this possibility to the squad.)
Tumblr media
And if they can find a reason, a solid explanation, for why Crosshair has turned on them, maybe they can find a way to help him.
Tech is logical and rational. He understands people by analyzing them, finding reasons to explain their motives and actions; and by understanding them, he can come up with a plan to fix the situation. And that's exactly what he's doing here: by proving his theories about the inhibitor chips, he can better help his family.
So, as much as I still laugh over Tech's nonchalant "We're fine" as they're LITERALLY CRASHING, I also find it so dang heartwarming and sweet that Tech was SO focused on saving his team in other, equally crucial ways ❤️

Alright, to ao3's soon to be arriving Wattpad Refugees, a basic guide to general user culture:
1.) Unlike Wattpads vote system that let's you like each chapter, the ao3 equivalent kudos only allows one per work. Everyone is generally quietly annoyed about this. To engage with each chapter, you're heavily encouraged to comment. Trust me, it makes people's day.
2.) Ao3 has no algorithm. By default it's latest updated work first. You can find things to your taste through searches, filters and tags.
3.) 'No archive warnings apply' and 'user has chosen not to use archive warnings' mean two very different things. No archives warnings means the work is free from any content that could require a warning tag (character death, graphic depictions of violence, non-con, etc). User has chosen not to use archive warnings means it could contain any of the warning content, be it hasn't been explicitly tagged. Treat it like an allergen. No archive warnings apply is allergen free. User has chosen not to use archive warnings, may contain traces or whole chunks of the allergen. If you're likely to have a bad reaction, maybe don't take the risk.
4.) Speaking of warnings, ao3 has very few restrictions on the type of work that's allowed. Whatever your personal thoughts or feelings on that are, thats how the site is. You're likely to run across some dark subject matters and a lot of people are uncomfortable with reading that. You're well within your rights not like these works and have your opinion on whether they should be allowed, but harassing the authors of such works (or any works) is more likely to come back on you than them. Ao3 operates on a strong policy of 'don't like, don't read'. Use the tagging system to your full advantage to only engage with the kind of works you want to see.
We look forward to welcoming you all and seeing the fantastic works you create. Happy writing!

The Bad Batch, S3, E14, "Flash Strike"
Yeah, the whole "just following orders" thing isn't going to fly with Echo.
Which is absolutely beautiful, given how he started out: repeating orders, reminding his team "Arc Troopers follow orders," catching up on his reg manuals, etc.
He's come so far.
(He better survive.
Also, nice to see his ears again but I'm wondering how he's handling things without his neural relay thing (have we ever gotten an official name for his head piece?).
I need to get back to more Echo stuff in my Written in the Dust series.)

When spooning from behind ...
Hunter will rest his arm over you and cup your hip in his hand.
Wrecker's arm will rest heavy over you, but his large hand will be warm and gentle across your stomach.
Echo will curl his arm under yours to press against the middle of your chest and pull you to him.
Tech will move his hand throughout the night, subconsciously wanting to hold all of you.
Crosshair will spread his fingers over your stomach to cover and claim as much skin as possible.

I need it. Much as I like fixing things in fic, I need more canon SW stuff to have some happier endings (a la Mando sitting on his porch watching Grogu play in the dirt).
(And yes, we are all C-3PO.)
What could it be?
Tumblr media
Apparently, Star Wars Holocron (@sw_holocron) recently posted a picture of Omega on Twix with a caption saying they'd seen the next episode of The Bad Batch and it features their favorite line of dialogue in the entire series.
Tumblr media
Intriguing, most intriguing...
With Episode 14 leading into the grand finale, I cannot help but hope that some version of these words will come out of Omega's mouth: "Tech's alive!"
And before someone hits me over the head with my brightly colored clown shoe, allow me to add:
In Star Wars Rebels, we knew they wouldn't be the ones to stop the Empire, but they were able to save Lothal from the Empire's grip, and wipe Thrawn and his Tie Defender plan off the table. This was a huge blow to the Empire and ultimately lost them the war. I'm still beyond salty about Kanan's death and Ezra not being there to savor the victory, but this outcome was pretty much inevitable with them being Jedi and what Yoda says in the OT. On a happier note, everyone else in the Ghost family survived to continue the fight, with Jacen Syndulla's birth an unexpected bonus. In other words, the finale was not a bloodbath with main characters dying right and left. (BTW, a gentle reminder that the ending of Season 3 of The Mandalorian was downright cheerful what with Grogu and his adopted dad hanging out peacefully on their new homestead.)
With this in mind, is it delulu to anticipate a similar bittersweet finale for The Bad Batch? Yes, we know they can't stop the rising Empire, but as others on this hellsite have theorized, reuniting ALL the members of their squad/family after being separated over and over again since the first episode would be a precious personal victory even if they must endure the loss of any regular clone colleagues in the attack on Tantiss.
This season focused a lot on Crosshair's redemption, which definitely required this time and care to make his return believable. As for Tech, it seems many out there think he has to be fully un-brainwashed by the end of the finale if he's to be revealed alive as CX-2. But can't the Batch simply find this out and take him away (willingly or not) during the attack to help the prisoners escape? At the end of Rebels, we weren't sure what happened to Ezra, but there was hope that he'd be found based on the epilogue.
In similar fashion, even if Tech's mental condition is ambiguous at the end of TBB finale, at least the audience and the Batch squad are left with hope that he can be restored to his true self as much as is still possible because now the brothers and Omega are fully reunited come what may. Who knows, maybe there will be an Rebels-like epilogue that helps explain more about the Batch's outcome, along with the aftermath of Tantiss, such as the clone uprising, and any long term impact on Project Necromancer.
For now, just being a spectacled spectator with two more episodes that will prove me right or vewy vewy wrong...

I can’t help but think of the parallels with how fives had to go into the blank shiny armor again when he was looking into the conspiracy. And now Echo is in shiny armor trying to unravel a different plot. if echo dies in shiny armor like fives did I will BURN EVERYTHING
