I've been really tired for the past couple of days so I haven't been around much. I'm feeling better today after getting lots of rest, so I'm planning to answer some asks and catch up on things this weekend.

Episode 31: Party Planner
It was summer and Kaylynn was nearing the end of her pregnancy. Lucy had invited her over to give her some baby items she no longer needed for the twins. Kaylynn had a lot of free time these days. Her job had become quite physically challenging with her growing belly, so she decided to go ahead and quit. Matt had begun working as a vet tech, and since school was out, he was able to work full time for a bit.
"Have you decided what you're going to do once Matt goes back to school?" Lucy asked her. Kaylynn told her she hadn't decided yet, but she hoped to have it figured out soon.
"Right now, I'm just trying to fight off my boredom while I wait for the baby to arrive," Kaylynn explained.
"If you're looking for something to do, I could use some help planning the boys' first birthday party," Lucy offered. Kaylynn happily accepted. She was grateful to have something to keep her occupied. Lucy told her she'd decided on a fishing theme but didnât want to go too big with it. âTheyâre not going to remember it anyway,â she explained. âAt this age, the party is more for the adults.â
As they brainstormed ideas, Kaylynn realized she had a lot of contacts in the community due to her job at the cleaning company. She sent messages to a few of her former clients and before she knew it, sheâd made arrangements for balloons, cake, and decorations. She even knew someone who could bring a food truck, which was sure to be a hit among the adults.
âWow, Iâm glad I asked you for help!â Lucy exclaimed. âIt would have taken me forever to get all of this together.â
Kaylynn was glad to help, and she was feeling excited about putting everything together. She couldnât wait to see how it would all turn out.

Episode 30: Coming Clean
If Paul was planning to test the waters about coming out, it seemed that talking to Jamie was the best start. After their awkward encounter which revealed their shared attraction to Thornton, they still hadnât properly talked about it.
Paul began by asking her what happened between her and Thornton that nightâaside from the dirty version sheâd already told him about. He made it clear that he was asking without judgment and that there were no hard feelings. After all, she was right that they never defined their relationship.
She said she was upset with Thornton that night and confronted him. She didnât think it was right for him to cut her off like that because of Morganaâs insecurities. After some back and forth about it, Thornton and Jamie both admitted to having feelings for each other. Things started to get physical, but Thornton stopped and said he couldnât continue. That was when Jamie stormed off and found Paul.
She apologized for using Paul to deal with her feelings about Thornton, but Paul supposed he was doing the same thing that night. âIf you didnât already figure it out, Iâm bisexual,â he confessed, feeling a bit lighter now that heâd shared the truth with someone else.
Jamie sensed the weight heâd been carrying and warmly embraced him. She assured him that she didnât feel any differently about him and supported him 100%. Paul was appreciative, but pointed out that the bigger issue at hand was her feelings for another man. Jamie sighed. âI wish I didnât want him, but I do,â she said, her eyes brimming with tears.
âI guess I could say the same,â Paul quipped, and they both laughed at the awkwardness of the situation. It felt good to share a laugh with someone over something that had caused him such turmoil.
Ultimately, Paul and Jamie agreed that there were too many outside factors at play for them to continue their romantic relationship and decided to just be friends.
After Jamie left, Danica and Wesley came to check in with Paul. They'd picked up on the tension between him and Jamie and were wondering if everything was okay with them.
Without getting into all of the details, Paul told his friends that he and Jamie decided they were better as friends. He also took the opportunity to come out to them. They both apologized for the hurtful comments they'd made in the past and promised to be more supportive.
Paul ended the day feeling as though a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He was finally experiencing the acceptance he'd craved for so long. He just hoped coming out to his family would be this easy.

Mia: God, Ivan.. youâve spent this whole holiday moping.
Ivan: Ainât you sâposed tâbe able tâdo whatever yâwant on vacation?
Mia: [sighs] I guess, but youâre bumming me out.
Ivan: Sorry.
Mia: Iâm tryna make you feel better, is all. No one said I was any good at it.
Ivan: Thanks for tryinâ-.. youâre doinâ pretty good.
Mia: I reckon you just needed some time to think, yâknow? You can sit down nâ hash it all out once you get home.
Ivan: I know him well enough by now tâknow heâll be gone by the time I get back. Iâm done, either way-.. he made his choice nâ it ainât one I can get behind.
Mia: Well, itâs hard to understand without the full story but Iâll take your word for it.
Ivan: I thought about askinâ him tâmarry me at one pointâŚ
Mia: Why didnât you?
Ivan: Maybe I could tell his heart wasnât in it by then-.. maybe it was daft tâthink we actually wanted the same things. I dunno if Iâm even surprised the more I think about it.
Mia: Donât think about it then.
Ivan: Easier said than done, âspecially with Tilda rubbinâ salt in the wound-.. gallivanting all over the place with Triss.
Mia: Iâm sure youâll find someone else to gallivant with one day.
Ivan: Nah, Iâm fuckinâ cursed.
[Mia sighed as Ivan launched into a self-deprecating tirade about his miserable love life and the many, many failed relationships and subsequent breakups heâd been through that were all his fault. By the time heâd reached his teens, sheâd had enough]
Ivan: Oi, Iâm talkinâ here!
Mia: Youâre ranting.
Ivan: I was singinâ your praises for helpinâ a second ago nâ now yâfuckinâ off?
Mia: Cutting this pity party short is helping, so keep singinâ em!
Ivan: [scoffs] It ainât a pity party.
Mia: Time heals all wounds, youâre amazing, youâll find someone else-.. byeeeee.
Ivan: Tch, not likely.
Pixie: What?
Ivan: Nothinâ, petal.
Pixie: This couch smells rank.
[Ivan chuckled as his imitating lil lady joined him, fond as always-.. maybe none of it mattered as long as she was happy]
Ivan: It really does, huh?

(TW/disclaimer; gun violence, death)
Flashbacks to the smuggled asteroid in Windenburg
[Flashbacks from two months prior play in Viktor's head]
Grim Watch Commander: *demanding* Drop your weapons, any movement and we will shoot you on site.
Security guard: Viktor- we're entirely surrounded, we won't be able to leave with the asteroid-
Viktor: Don't worry, I have it under control.
Security guard: What ar-(a muffled gunshot igniting through a suppressor is barely heard.)
Viktor: *addressing the commander* Well done on the diversion tactics. As we discussed previously, the asteroid is yours... only on the condition that my contact at Windenburg labs receives a portion of it for analysis. I also expect updates for the profits made on the asteroid. Do not falter on your efforts.
Viktor: Hmph.

Young Thomas and Emelia O'Shaughnessy â¤ď¸
Since it's almost been 10 years since Emelia's death, Thomas navigated his grief by writing. Read more below the cut đ¤
"Whenever I miss her, I remember the breezy walks we went on from right after we got married until she passed. I go back to the places where the world blurred around us and we were 100% present with each other. We checked in with each other about our marriage, the kids, work and whatever was consuming our minds at the moment. I go back to us being Tom and Emmie, and it feels like home. After I reflect on those moments, I can be present with what's in front of me. Each year since her death, the grief doesn't go away, it just feels different. Year 10, I'm filled with gratitude.
These days, I'm grateful to have spent 20 years married to her and to see her impact on the world continue. Where I see it the most is what personality traits our amazing kids got from her.
Owen has her tender heart, Kathleen has her work-ethic, Caroline has her ability to make people feel seen, and Elizabeth has her quiet strength. I love our beautiful kids so much and I'm proud of the incredible adults they've become.
We miss you, Emmie. I miss you desperately. Thank you for choosing me and giving us an amazing family."

Chapter 43.5
Idiot.
The voice in my head is persistent. Itâs been over two months but itâs not letting up.
I try to focus on the lines, struggling to keep the faint remnants of my Tartosan accent from creeping into Llama Manâs commanding voice. Itâs always more difficult just after Iâve been home.
Idiot.
Images from the last year keep flashing by, little details seared into my brain. Her green eyes. Her smile. The delicate birthmarks artfully strewn across her face. I used to insist on kissing each of them goodbye before I left and it always made her laugh.
It was the best sound in the world.
Idiot.
The more recent images are a different story. Her tears. The look of shock and confusion in her eyes. She didnât understand, of course, and some days Iâm not sure I do either. Am I an idiot for leaving her? Or for letting myself fall in love with her in the first place?
Both?
âAlright, Paul, that was good, but letâs do an extra take just to be sure.â
I nod at the sound technician and start over.
âIâve sent the files off to Mike. Personally, I donât think heâll demand another round, the last two takes were flawless.â
âThanks. Iâm sorry for dragging you in for pick-ups again, Iâve been feeling a bit off lately.â
âHey, itâs a pay check. And Iâm going to need it for the move. We want to get settled into the new house before my sonâs wedding so weâre already packing.â
âDid you find a job in Henford yet?â
âNot yet, but my wife got an offer. Weâll make it work. My kid is the only family I have left, so if he moves abroad, we follow. And I never liked staying in one place for too long anyway, I get restless.â
âWell, best of luck over there, Charles. The new sound tech will have some big shoes to fill.â
âThanks, Paul. Itâs been a pleasure working with you.â
Charles leaves, and I turn on the coffee machine.
Iâve just finished pouring two mugs when Lee arrives.
âOh, you must have read my mind, love, I am positively dying for a coffee right now.â
âWhen are you not?â
Lee settles onto the sofa with a sigh.
âItâs been one of those weeks, deadlines put such a damper on my creativity. But how was Tartosa? Did you have a nice birthday?â
âIt was fine. I didnât feel like making it a huge thing, but my mother had arranged a family dinner at the vineyard.â
âAh, just an intimate and completely non-threatening gathering with fifteen to twenty people, then.â
I lean back against the counter and take a long sip of the coffee to avoid responding. Itâs still too hot, and I grimace as the liquid burns my mouth. Idiot.
Lee isnât so easily deterred, though.
âSo, thatâs it? Youâre just never going to see her again?â
âLee, first of all, she blocked me. On my birthday, no less. So Iâm going to take that as a big fat hint and respect her wishes. Second, I broke up with her because it was a dead end. Sheâs not going to settle down for another decade, and when she does, sheâs not going to pick some fifty year old relic.â
Lee raises an eyebrow.
âI beg your pardon?â
âYeah, I said it. Sorry to break it to you, Lee, but youâre old. Ancient. Practically dust.â
âIâm choosing to ignore your hurtful remarks because youâre clearly heartbroken and out of your mind with grief.â
I snort. âSorry. Iâm fine, really, Iâm just annoyed at myself.â
âFor irrationally breaking up with the love of your life or for stubbornly refusing to reconsider?â
âFor being an idiot in general, I guess. I knew it was a bad idea. I even told her as much the first time I met her. But then I just had to go back and talk to her again like a complete dumbass and she practically invited herself back to my hotel. How could I say no to that?â
Lee chuckles. âOh, but you couldnât, of course you couldnât. I mean, sheâs not exactly my type, but I can still appreciate the aesthetics, as it were.â
âRight? And that might even have been fine if it never went any further, but I got carried away and kept seeing her even though everyone could tell it was going to end badly. Weâre both better off like this, Iâll get over it.â
Lee just looks at me over the rim of his glasses.
âAre you sure? I may be a dusty old relic but as far as Iâm aware, the only way you could possibly know that she blocked you is if you spent your birthday trying to look her up.â
âThanks, detective. It was a moment of weakness, you donât need to rub it in my face.â
âIâm not trying to rub anything in your face, love, I know itâs not your thing. But you were clearly serious about her if you were planning to bring her to Tartosa. And just because the poor girl understandably got slightly intimidated, you drop her like a newborn giraffe. Why not give her some more time?â
âI didnât⌠Lee, it was the sensible thing to do! I just turned forty, I canât just spend years waiting for her to make up her mind and hope for the best.â
âI donât share your fetish for monogamy, but I believe all relationships are like that, you can never be certain. But youâve always been stubborn so Iâll just give you the usual break-up advice. Get a haircut, hit the gym, put yourself back out there. Will you at least see my stylist?â
âNever. I am not brave enough to let Jessica Clemons near my wardrobe.â

Episode 29: Bright Ideas
Lucy followed Damien to his office, unsure of what to expect. âSo, we finally meet!â He was cheerful and upbeat, not quite what Lucy was anticipating when she envisioned their first meeting. She sort of thought heâd be cloaked in the shadows, speaking in riddles with a hushed voice. But standing before her now, he was warm and friendly, which eased her worries about their impromptu meeting.
âYes, Iâm glad weâre finally having a conversation!â she told him.
âI would like to apologize for that,â he stated sympathetically. âI know I havenât been leading things here the way I should, and I owe you an explanation.â He paused and cleared his throat.
âA few months ago, I basically cleared out upper management. They knew the ins and outs of the business side of things, and that helped me grow Rainy Day to where it is today. But they didnât understand the people. Iâve been wanting to tap into the creativity of our team and explore new ideas for a while now, but after losing my mom earlier this year I had to step back.â Lucy could see the pain in Damienâs eyes as he spoke about his loss.
âIâm sorry to hear that. I can understand why youâd need to take some time away,â she told him.
Damien thanked her. âIt has helped, but I wish I had been around more to facilitate all of the changes. Then again, it seems everyone is doing a great job without my interference.â
Lucy was relieved to finally get some feedback about how things were going. âSo youâre happy with everything?â she asked expectantly.
âIndeed I am. Everything went exactly as Iâd hoped. I guess I found the right person for the job.â He smiled at Lucy with a little wink.Â
âOh, well I canât take credit for our success,â she admitted. âWeâve got a great group of people here. Theyâre the ones whoâve really put in the work.â
âThey are a talented group, thatâs for sure,â he agreed. âBut in order to really tap into that talent, I needed someone who could look at this group and see all the nuances: their strengths and their weaknesses, their chemistry with other people, how they work the best. That someone was you.â
Lucy was flattered but unsure if she was deserving of all of Damienâs praise. âAnyone could have done that,â she countered.
âAnyone could have. But no one did. That is, until you came along. Thatâs why youâre different.â Lucy thanked him for his faith in her, but she was still hesitant to take too much credit.
Damien promised her he would be more hands on going forward. âIâve been hiding for too long. I think itâs time for me to become a part of the team,â he told her, his face lighting up.
âWelcome to the Sunny Side!â Lucy smiled, glad to finally have Damien's support.

Episode 28: Balancing Act
Matt and Kaylynn finally felt comfortable enough to share the news of Kaylynnâs pregnancy with their loved ones, and Kaylynn was having a hard time hiding her growing belly. First Kaylynn told her family the news. They were all happy for them, but they weren't really the types to make a fuss about things like that.
The DiMarcos, however, were a different story. At their weekly Sunday dinner at Lou and Lucinda's, Matt and Kaylynn shared their big news. Everyone was thrilled to learn there would be a new little DiMarco joining their family! There were lots of questions for the couple, many which they hadnât even considered yet.
There was so much to think about when preparing for the arrival of a new baby, but the one thing that was weighing on Kaylynnâs mind the most was what she should do about working. Given the recent incident with Daniel Pleasant, Kaylynn was starting to question if she wanted to continue working in other peopleâs homes.
It was fine most of the time, but some of her clients were a little too comfortable when Kaylynn was in their homes. She'd seen it all, from cheating to fighting to intimate moments. She was tired of dealing with the townâs dirty laundry, both literally and figuratively. But what would she do about work? With Matt in school, they needed the extra income.  Â
Kaylynn expressed her concerns to the other parents in the family, figuring maybe they would have some insights on how to maintain a good work/life balance. Lou and Lucinda had gone the traditional route, with Lucinda staying home with the children until they were older while Lou worked outside of the home. âIâm grateful for all of the time I had with my kids, but I do wish Iâd balanced things a bit better,â Lucinda told her.
For his part, Lou felt he missed out on a lot of big moments. She thought of her own mother, who had expressed similar regrets about working too much when Kaylynn and her brother were young. That was certainly not a dynamic she intended on repeating with her own family.
Lucy and Christopher had a much different experience. With their flexible work schedules, they were both able to spend a lot of time with their boys while also maintaining a good income. Kaylynn liked the idea of having more time at home, but that would definitely mean working in another field.
The only problem was that she had no idea of what she wanted to do. At least she had a few more months to figure it out.

Episode 27: Little Moments
Throughout his life, Paul had experienced many moments that reinforced his decision to ignore his sexuality. Most only lasted a few seconds--
Teacher: âBoys don't play with dolls.â
Students: "Paul is always staring at Deshawn." "I know, what a weirdo!"
-âbut the weight of these moments made them feel like they lasted forever. As time passed, society progressed and attitudes changed. In high school, some of his friends, including his crush Deshawn, had even come out as gay. Paul thought he might finally be able to be himself. Yet even when in the company of those who should have been accepting, those little moments continued adding up.
Deshawn: âI wouldn't date a bisexual guy." Wesley: âThey don't know what they want.â Danica: âI think they're just in denial.â
The seconds turned to minutes and minutes to hours until those small moments added up to a lifetime. A lifetime of avoiding the truth, of pretending. A lifetime of feeling like an outsider, a liar, an empty shell. Â
A lifetime of loneliness. It wasnât that he wasnât attracted to women. He knew he wasnât gay, and for a while it seemed like the easiest solution to feeling unaccepted was to put his attraction to men aside, to store it away in a part of his brain that he would simply choose not to access.
He thought he could continue to date women and pretend like that side of him didnât exist. He could still have everything he wantedâa devoted partner to have children withâwithout having to face the potential of rejection from the rest of society. But it wasnât true. He could marry a woman that he truly loved, but he would still feel rejected, lonely, and dishonest as long as he continued hiding who he was.
Paul knew that something had to change. As scary as it was, he couldnât live the life he dreamed of if he remained in the closet. Paul looked at himself in the mirror and took a deep breath before finally speaking aloud the words heâd been holding in his whole life. âIâm bisexual.â It felt better than he could have imagined.
Now he just needed the courage to say it to everyone else.
