to be a daughter is to worship
but to whom do we sanctify ourselves?
do we scrub our feet to raw, red welts for a cleanliness to bring us closer to our god,
or to wipe all trace of a presence from the shining floors?
shall our eyes weep crystalline rivers,
shall our fingers gnarl to please you, o Father, who art thou in heaven?
are we worshipped as hestia was at our families’ hearth, silent and tending, the family jewels kept covered until an opportune moment?
we shall be kissed and simmered under all unsatiated eyes, cooking til tender, brewing til sweet.
we grow crooked, caged, cared for.
is it all we know to be worshipped under the ever watchful sun?
it shall be all we know to worship on soggy knees and damp skirts.
the waters rush pass, but I am a stone, eroding until the dancing pebble sweeps me past that fraying loom.

shameless self-promotion: zoyalai playlist.
why do you never kiss me sweetly in the morning, zoya? / I do nothing sweetly, your highness.

soc/crooked kingdom spoilers! unpopular opinion... but i think matthias had the best character arc out of the crows. he’s not my fav character but his DEVELOPMENT was phenomenal. matthias goes from a druskelle whose whole life has been about eradicating grisha from ever existing, even if they’re just living a peaceful life, because they were simply born grisha. then he meets nina. he does the stereotypical “oh, she’s the only grisha i like. everyone else is still a monster“ thing. then we get the enemies to potential lovers to enemies to allies to lovers trope, and the whole time he’s changing. it’s a realistic, slow change, not based on a single interaction. matthias is able to realize that grisha are not inherently bad. in fact, he’s able to still connect with his religion while coming to terms with this. as a non religious person i thought this was amazingly done, showing that you don’t have to give up your faith to mature and develop your beliefs. even at the end of his storyline *sobs violently* he acknowledges that he might not ever be able to grow out of his bigotry towards grisha, but it’s a daily struggle and one that he wants to have if it means he grows as a person.
anyway i wanted to rant aisjskaskej sorry cuz i love matthias’ character and he doesn’t get enough attention for how great he is
