I've spent the past week knitting up 5 of these market bags. This project has been a successful stash bust and helped me create some stock for my etsy shop (I'll have a shop update in may!)
This is my own design and I have a pattern on ravelry and etsy if anyone is interested!

Earlier this month, my husband lost his job. Unemployment had made changes to their program, resulting in a massive glitch that resulted in no one receiving unemployment assistance. We've been doing alright, but today we have $62, and we won't have any money until May 1st.
I have several shop listings available for purchase, digital downloads included, and many start at $0 with the option to Pay What You Want. Commissions are open as well, but I think some of y'all are well aware of that by now.
I do accept donations as well, but I would much rather sell my work. If you opt for donating, here are several options, not including the option to donate on ko-fi.
If you choose to use the PayPal option, mark it as a gift. Otherwise, it will require I mail you what it assumes you're paying for.
We'll be mostly alright after May 1st. All my sales and commissions have gone towards my ko-fi goal thus far. But we need fuel and food, and we have a bill coming out soon. As for exactly how much we need right now, $187 for the bill, $25 should be enough to cover fuel for the month, and groceries I'm gonna guess $100 should get us the bare basic essentials for a few days.
If you can't help financially, I kindly request you share my shop and commission information on whatever social media you use. I'm on only tumblr.

The Re-Opening Of Handmade Hearts
Itās been an icy hot minute since I wrote a proper update, but I wonāt complicate this one. The update series started with the presence of a workspace and the first shop opening; the second post was about the progress and success so far; the third wasĀ almost a year laterĀ because so much had happened, and Iād moved, and the store was on standby, and I was getting married, usw.
Iāve since not only moved countries, but Iāve also moved my main storefront from Ko-Fi to the Artisans Cooperative. (But youāll still find patterns on Ko-Fi.) Like I have from the start, I do the math and show my work in the description of each item listing in a breakdown of the price: In bullet list form, I state the material costs, the platform fees, the time Iāve estimate I could most efficiently take to complete one of each item (which will almost always be less time than it actually took), and the wage per hour that Iām paying myself. If you add it all up, itāll equal the price in the listing ā minus a tax based on your area that the marketplace adds automatically.
There are six fixed shipping prices based on size and location, with the least expensive being within Germany and the most expensive being anywhere outside the EU. Iāve got two different sizes of box, but I really should get me some envelopes and offer a cheaper no-tracking alternative for certain (very small, mostly not-yet-existing) items.
Here are the listings so far!

Iāve done the math, and I have made just shy of 370ā¬ in earnings in the time Iāve had Handmade Hearts open. I havenāt been able to work since 2019, so thatās 370ā¬ in earnings within the last five years.
Ouchā¦
Ouchā¦?
Well, I have chronic depression, but Iāve managed to carve myself into an optimist; Iāve not had the chance to really grow yet as an indie seller, so having earned anything ā not operated at a loss (at least within business expenses; general life expenses is another beast) ā is a bright shining star to me.
My parter and I are waiting on job applications and government assistence. In the meantime, Iām hoping to gain more eyes and start making at least one sale every month in the middle and/or latter half of 2024.
Iāve yet to sell anything through the new storefront, so Iām trying to get more eyes on it. Iām considering opening a secondary storefront with Products With Love, a Germany-specific handmade marketplace, to get more eyes that wonāt have to pay more than seven euros on shipping for any given thing.
Shipping is, unfortunately, not something I can do for free. To take a moment for personal politics: I really think mail should be one of those things governments work together to pay for and make free on the most basic level, like public infrustructure, roads and such. It shouldnāt cost $24 for me to send you a snake shaped neck pillow if youāre in the US.
That said, it does cost me 23ā¬ (which is $24.53 as of writing this) to send you a snake shaped neck pillow right now. I want to emphasize that because itās so common when shopping online to find something āunderpricedā whose shipping is blown way up for profits, and I think sometimes itās become habitual to assume thatās the case when shipping is over what Amazon would consider normal.
Another thing people do is including the shipping price within the price of the item to artificially remove shipping costs. Thatās something I donāt do because A) I like transparency, and B) that would increase the platform fees you have to pay, increasing the overall price for no reason.
Ultimately, I hope that the way I do things helps people be more mindful of why things cost what they do.
To close out...
In preparation for posting this update, Iāve uploaded my tenth listing on the Artisans Cooperative marketplace. For my trans siblings, and for the pedants who have noticed that none of my wares have hearts on them:

With a perfect tie, it's decided: When I sell these, they will be available in quantities of one, three, or more than three, but not two.
I was motivated to finish designing the teeny tiny turtle I started aaaages ago for a birthday present for my Schwiegeropa tomorrow.
[Collective ID: various poses of a turtle crocheted using greenish yarn for the head and limbs + pale yellow yarn for the back and belly with grey accents on the shell. It's about the size of a quarter, and a tiny bit of yarn sticking out of the butt is what serves as a tail. /end ID]

Really struggling with the whole Job Getting thing so financial support through my craft would be nice.
I'm debating... how to go about strawberry selling. Of course I'll make a listing just for them, but I could also maybe let people add one to other orders for super cheap since that would get rid of the need for shipping and listing fees on the strawb?
I'll maybe do the same thing for bracelets...

Chaosfay's 2024 Quilt Commissions
Due to an ice store in January putting a tree on our roof, tearing off some gutters, damaging other gutters, the outdoor faucets exploding, and other damages, I had to open commissions three months early than planned. We had a $1000 insurance deductible that needed to be covered, and now it is thanks to your help!
I'm keeping commissions open until all slots are taken. They will be closed in June and all through the dry season. This is due to how incredibly hot my sewing room becomes. A window unit a/c isn't an option because of how extremely small the room is. Commissions will reopen probably at the end of September, then close in November.
Quilt commission prices start at $20 (pins and magnets) and come with the option of paying more than my listed price.
There are five slots available, and it's first come, first serve. I offer the option of paying 50% up front, with weekly and monthly installments thereafter. When the final payment is received, I'll ship you quilt. Contact me for the 50% option so I can either set up a custom listing OR an invoice and commission contract. The invoice is sent via PayPal, but you do not need a PayPal account to pay it.
@anastasiaoftheironwood - Lap quilt, 50%, finished quilt top
Ko-fi client - just the quilt top, 50%, arranging blocks into rows

For reference, it takes about 7 hours to make a big bag like this that costs $96 plus shipping:
And just under an hour to make a small plushy like one of these which costs $17 plus shipping:
I'm thinking of listing very very very small and simple things like yarn chain bracelets for 5ā¬ but that'll never be most of it.

These were the first plushies I wanted to sell and I'm sosososo hopeful and excited with this storefront. Check it ouuut and maybe buy one if you can afford it? Price breakdown in the description; I'm getting 10ā¬ per hour.
