December 24th: Christmas Eve and party-
The sound of tiny stomping feet wakes me as I open my eyes confused, the door to his childhood bedroom pops open quickly
Three of his nephews and his niece come running toward the bed. I go to brace for impact as they scale the bed
Little knees hit my stomach and Chris groans in pain as tiny elbows and knees dig into his stomach and side
“Uncle chris! Uncle Chris!”
They poke his face as his niece, Stella pokes at my cheek smiling widely
I smile to her saying “Merry Christmas Eve miss Stella.”
She chuckles saying “Grandma said to wake you because breakfast is ready.”
I look to Chris as his nephews wrestle around with him as the older one rifles through the drawers in the room
“Hey. Quit snooping through my things.” He pushes the drawer shut saying “Tell grandma we’ll be down in ten.”
Stella asks “How do you make your face so pretty? Can I do your makeup?”
“Of course you can. Find me tonight after dinner. You can do my makeup.”
Stella quickly whispers to me “Uncle Chris has stinky breath.”
I laugh and nod saying “He does doesn’t he?”
I sit up, lifting her onto the comforter at my feet saying “how about you save me a spot at the table. I just need to change.”
“Okay.”
Chris looks to miles saying “I expect a spot beside you bud.”
Miles and Stella remain as the only two niece or nephews that haven’t ran off yet
They both nod in agreement as Chris kisses the top of my head and I say “She’s right, you need to brush your teeth babe. That beer last night gave you stinky breath.”
The two kids grow into a fit of giggles as Chris gasps saying “I beg to differ!”
He kisses me and I lean into him and bite at his lip as I push out of his grasp “Brush ‘em please.”
He laughs saying “Fine. Fine.. I’m going.”
The two kids leave the room shortly after and I follow Chris into the bathroom, picking right back up on our domestic routine
We move through the bathroom like we would at home. Handing and moving around each other with ease
He holds out both our toothbrushes as I squeeze the contents of the paste onto the bristles
I drop the tube and grab my purple toothbrush, I pull the brush through my hair, handing it to him seconds later as he pushes the faucet on
He looks to me as he finally realizes and watches how well we’ve developed together
How smoothly and easy this is
Like we don’t even inconvenience each other. It’s not always like this but it is right now, we’re a team and he’s staring at me in awe
My eyebrows scrunch in confusion as I stare at his reflection in the mirror “something on your mind?”
He spits his toothpaste out, at least a minute after me and smiles saying “No. I’m just really happy.”
I smile to him as my hands press to his cheek “Have you taken the Russo brothers up on that suggestion?”
He exhales slowly in response as he melts into my hand saying “Of course I have. The beard is making a comeback.”
My smile grows contagious as he grins widely, his teeth finally showing as his smile widens
“I love you. Have I told you that lately?”
“It never gets old, babe. I love you too.”
“Good. Expect me to never give up saying it.”
I pull away from his grasp as his hand remains pressed to my waist as my hand drops from his cheek “I should wash my face.”
I lean towards the water, rinsing my face then scrubbing in my face wash and rinsing it off
His hand slides across my waist and wraps around me as the other arm cages together with the other
His lips press to my shoulder as I laugh I crack into a fit of laughter as he continues to move his lips across my skin
“Chris.” The words barely leave my lips as I exhale with them
“I know. We should go downstairs..”
But his grip around me says otherwise
His foot kicks the door shut as I slip from his hold
I shriek in laughter as he spins back towards me, charging towards me
He grows risky quickly as his hands pick at the buttons of my top and I shake my head saying “This is your childhood home.”
“I’m an adult.” He admits as he gives each other distance. Not much but some
I smile and say “She’ll send the kids back up if we don’t go down. How did we even end up back up here? I know I fell asleep downstairs.”
“I carried you to bed. At like 3 am. It was just Scott and a couple of the cousins that stuck it out. All the couples had gone back to their rooms.”
“Oh. Well my back and I bet your back thank you.” I smile as I squeeze his shoulder as I leave the room
He follows shortly after me as we walk down the hall and find out what the family is up to. And much to my surprise it’s more chaotic than I’ve ever seen it
There’s an influx of people I’ve never seen and Chris pushes me forward saying “I’m starving, come on.”
My eyes jolt around to all the new faces and influx of Christmas decor everywhere. Waiting to be hung up or presented somewhere
Chris hands me a plate and I look towards Lisa as she seems overwhelmed during her conversation with a few women and Scott and Ryan.
“What is all this?”
“Christmas Eve party. I told you about that, didn’t I?”
I look towards him saying “I don’t think so. All of this? How many people does your family host?”
Chris shrugs saying “Let’s just say it’s a packed house. Mom knows everyone. You’ll get to meet my dad tonight. He’ll be here with his girlfriend. Mom will be as far away from his as possible, as usual.”
“Okay. I don’t have the guest list memorized. I don’t know who I’m meeting. You told me I’d be meeting your immediate family. I only know their names.”
He laughs as he bites into his toast and shakes his head. I eat a bite of the French toast and sigh saying “It’s not funny. I don’t want to mess up their names. That’s rude.”
“They’ve never met you, and you’ve never met them. I’ll introduce you to each. I promise, and then you can memorize their names you weirdo.” He kisses my hand and drops it onto his knee a second later as he smushes the egg with two pieces of toast
Lisa can cook. This is really good
“Your mom looks stressed.” I admit as I look to her. Her hands hold up her hair as her face looks distressed
“Yeah. She gets like this every year.”
“And you don’t help her?” I ask
“Of course we help her. She gets overwhelmed regardless.”
I purse my lips as I smile saying “We never had big scale holidays like this. Half the time my sisters barely made it home. When I was a kid we’d go into town for a nice dinner, and walk the streets for Christmas lights. And my dad would read the night before Christmas when we got home.”
“It was just the three of you?”
I nod saying “Yeah. My sisters were in college and had friends and boyfriends. They followed them home for the holidays.”
He nods saying “I see. What’d you do last Christmas?”
My smile drains from my face as I stab at my plate of food and I clear my throat saying “Oh just.. hung around.”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s pretty self explanatory isn’t it?”
He shakes his head saying “I know we were friends then but what were you up to?”
“Well, I had a script sent to me a week or two prior so I was running those lines and I had a nice takeout dinner sent to my apartment and I watched Christmas movies over a bottle of wine or two.”
His eyes widen as I cough and try to move onto a different topic “Anyway-”
“Hold on. You didn’t spend the holidays with your family?”
Sighing I say “It doesn’t matter alright? I spent New Years with a beautiful man though. That was my favorite holiday by a long shot.”
My hand grazes his cheek as I smile and he says “So for thanksgiving this year, you went to your sisters?”
Nodding I say “Yep. Had a great time seeing her and the kids.”
He exhaled as he says “You told me you went to your other sisters place.”
I groan saying “Chris why does it matter?”
“Because you spent that holiday alone. I should’ve been with you.”
“I wasn’t alone. I had Dodger. And a large bottle of wine.”
He shakes his head saying “Why is your family so distant?”
“It’s how we were raised. I never had anything like this. It’s really cool you have this. I get why you love it here so much.” I smile to him and feel warmth radiate as he hugs me saying “Any holiday, any year, you’re welcome here. With me.”
He kisses me and Scott scoffs saying “Gross. I’m trying to drink my spiked coffee in peace.”
Chris looks to Scott saying “Did you know she spent Thanksgiving alone this year?”
“She finally told you that?”
I glare at Scott and Chris scoffs saying “Seriously?”
“Scott stayed with me until 1:30 that day. I bought his first class ticket to Boston.”
“Why wasn’t I told? I would’ve brought you with me and—"
“My sister was gonna call and my mom was thinking she might’ve stopped by… it was complicated.”
Scott rolls his eyes saying “They’re flakes. I don’t know why she gives them the time of day.”
“They never did those things?”
I sigh saying “You’re really bringing down the Christmas cheer here, bucko. I’d like to not think about the holidays I spent alone.”
He nods saying “you’re going to love the things my family has planned today. It’s going to be your best Christmas Eve yet, y’know.”
I shake my head as my grin widens “I’m ready to be woo’d.”
Lisa squeezes my shoulders saying “Scott says you’re an amazing cook. I could use another set of hands. Do you mind?”
“Of course. Where do you need me?”
I stand up and follow her to the kitchen as Scott says “You should know by now that her family is the worst.”
“I was thinking you’d help me with the appetizer prep. I’m scrambling around like a frying egg. God I’m nervous.”
She pushes the cookbook stand in both our eye sight and says “I was thinking we’d start on the dips. They need to be refrigerated for at least a couple hours.”
“Okay. That’s do-able.”
Chris watches me as I cook and watch his mom and sisters interact. I smile and he looks towards Carly willing her to get his girlfriend to join them
“Mom did you show y/n your famous bread yet?”
“Bread?” I ask
“It’s twisted brioche. It’s my great grandmothers recipe. I have it rising right now. I think we could steal a peek.”
She motions for me to walk over and I watch as she lifts the towel off the dish and I see the bread that looks gigantic already
I smile and say “It looks great.”
“Thank you. We have it every Christmas Eve dinner. My grandmother used to put a bay leaf in one slice and whoever got it was deemed to have the best Christmas. It’s a cheesy tradition but it stuck.”
Carly complains “I’ve personally never gotten it. But Scott’s had it four different years. Shanna’s had it twice. Chris has had it like eight times.” She laughs and I chuckle saying “Of course he has.”
Chris looks to his mom and sees her actually getting along with the woman he plans to propose to. And he feels relief
“I’m gonna go shower. I’ll be down by the time we need to head out for shopping.”
I look towards him quickly, slightly confused why he’s abandoning me like this. Scott sits at the barstools and smirks saying “I think y/n needs to shower too. You two are going to have to share like last night.”
My eyes pop to Scott as I turn flushed. Chris smacks the side of his brothers head saying “You and I both know you’re only starting shit.”
Scott laughs and Chris excuses himself as the conversation in the kitchen turns sour. Lisa teases “We have quite a few other bathrooms if you’d prefer to shower without Chris.”
My skin grows a darker red in embarrassment as I feel heat cover my arms and cheeks
Scott says “I was just joking mom. y/n can’t handle the temperature of Chris’s shower so she had to use mine anyway. His is still stuck at that scorching temperature.”
I stare at him as he tries to remedy the situation he created but all it created was tension and silence
And I just go back to making the many dips I’ve been left in charge of. Slowly making my way through the list
Onion dip, spinach dip, sweet dip, and salsa.
Once I finish Scott helps me carry them to the outside fridge.
I hit him the second the fridge closes and groan saying “You just can’t let me have an easy moment can you?”
“Nope.” He laughs and I sigh saying “Your mother despises me.”
“Maybe.” He smiles
I run my hands down my face and he opens the freezer. He pulls out a brown bag and I look to him confused. He slides out a large bottle of vodka
My eyes widen and he grabs the half empty bottle of cranberry juice “mom used this for a recipe.”
“The vodka?”
He laughs and says “No.”
I stare at him in disbelief as he begins to fill the cranberry juice container with vodka. “Jesus Scott! That’s a lot—”
“This will get you through today. Chris loves Christmas Eve, but I grudgingly get through it with this. This is going to be my Christmas punch.”
“That’s literally just a vodka cran.”
He chuckles and nods happily. I groan and he screws both caps closed. He shakes the container and then quickly takes a sip
He closes an eye and shouts out
He laughs shortly after and says “You’re up.”
“No.” I shake my head in disagreement and push the container away from me “I refuse to get tipsy in front of your mother. She’s scary enough sober.”
Scott shakes his head saying “This is the only way it’ll get better.”
“Liar.”
And then I left the garage, I went upstairs and took a shower.
I had no clothes to change into so I just headed back to the room in my towel and then met an already dressed Chris back in our room.
I sighed as I approached him. His hands pressed to the sides of my face as he then bent down to kiss me
Once we pulled away he said “Ma didn’t tell you the plan for today right?”
“No. Not yet.”
“After visiting the mall Santa and shopping, we go caroling.”
My eyebrows shoot up.
He scratches at his chin and says in a mellowed tone “As a family, all of us. We put on our warmest clothes and have hot coco in travel mugs. And once we’re done with that we go home for my families Christmas Eve party. My aunt stays back with the food and it’s all ready for our guests.”
I stare at him with minor disgust as my body remains stagnant. I feel like I have to be energetic about these festivities but I don’t sing and I don’t visit Santa
My eyes remain wide as I bite my cheek roughly as I choke back the words.
“You’re kidding.”
He chuckles and says “I’m not. It might sound childish but it’s a lot of fun. Trust me.”
“Oh…. Trust me… I’m trying.”

here’s the next part, sorry about the delay. Life happened. Gentle reminders or polite asks for me to update are appreciated.
But I don’t respond well to negative messages that call me a liar and hateful things. I am a person on the other side of this screen and I have my own problems and life. Please refrain from leaving those messages on my feed. I am just a girl, writing in her free time because I enjoy it. And I’m glad that you enjoy my story too! And I’m sorry when I don’t post as often as we’d both like.
But my life is sucky a lot of the time and I have a ton of problems. Which lead to me having to value myself and my health first. I’m sorry for the delay, I’ll try to be more consistent.
Here’s the long awaited next part!

Christmas cheer pt.2

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
December 23rd:
“You told me you had plans with your family for Christmas.”
“I did. And then Chris convinced me to come here instead.”
Scott becomes white in the face as he stands up and heads towards the kitchen “You repulse me. That’s disgusting. Chris convinced you to come with… sex?”
His voice carries as I nearly jump six feet in the air to slap him quiet
“Scott.” I say with anger in my tone
Chris stares at his mother who turns to hear what Scott says and swallows hard saying “Scott is only teasing. I didn’t do that to get her here— she came when I asked her to come here with me.”
“Like a puppy?” His young nephew teases
Chris feels the air suck into his nose faster as he narrows his eyes saying “Quiet. You all are trying to get me in trouble.”
His mom smiles saying “Have you told her what the weekend prior to Christmas is, exactly?”
“A broad idea. I’ll tell her the plan. She’ll be game for anything.”
Shanna smiles saying “You told her about the play?”
“Yeah. About it, not full detail.”
Scott smacks a hand full of flour right into the side of my head and I gasp as his nephews and nieces squeal with laughter
The moment pauses their making of the cookie batter
I huff air into my face as the flour lifts off a bit at the air blown towards it
“You have a lot of nerve dude.”
He laughs as he hoists the cute child in front of him, blocking my line of shot with the handful of flour dropping down as I say “You’re evil.”
“Hey, this is typical for us. December 23rd is always cookie baking day and flour always ends up in someone’s face. You’re basically an honorable Evans at this point.”
Shanna’s husband clears his throat as he lifts the child from Scott saying “He does this to everyone. My first year he and Chris went overboard with the flour. It took days and four showers to get the flour out of my ear.”
My eyes widen as the three of us laugh and he nods to me as he escorts all the kids out
My hand dives into the flour and flings it into Scott’s face before he can even react. He screams with laughter as he tackles me and we hit the fridge, causing a loud ruckus as all the nieces and nephews giggle loudly
I freeze as I hear Chris and his mother approach, and Scott dumps the bag of flour over my head as I stare at the door
Flour pools over my head and body, I close my eyes quickly, feeling like the flour has already gotten into my eyes
“Scott!” His mother shouts in annoyance as two muscular arms wrap around me and I hear Chris say “I’m so sorry, Scott what the hell is wrong with you?”
I’m moved around the kitchen and Scott is scolded by his mother about the mess and I blubber on about “it’s not his fault. Chris. I’m fine.”
Just embarrassed.
The group of family members break into smaller groups while Chris helps me clean up myself
He wipes at my eyes and the cloudiness disappears from my vision like windshield wipers on a window
I blink a couple times and he smiles lightly saying “So you just went through a Evans family passage, did Scott tell you that? Is that why you’re not angry currently?”
“Shanna’s husband told me.”
He ahh’s and responds “I see, and that’s alright?”
My hand moves up to my eyebrow as I scratch it and shrug saying “Makes me feel more welcomed than your mothers introduction and avoidance of me.”
“She’s trying. I swear, she’s just awkward around new people sometimes.”
My lips puff out as I purse them together “Maybe it wouldn’t have been so awkward if you had told her about me prior to two days ago.”
Scoffing he says “She knew about you before that.”
“Did she?” I question as my hands press to my sides
Sighing and basically admitting defeat he says “She knew I was going on dates with someone. I didn’t explicitly mention you until now. And it’s not because I was purposely hiding you, I just knew she would insist on meeting you and it would’ve been a whole ordeal.”
“Like right now? Hm.”
“Come on, let’s not bicker with each other. My mom has our schedule for the weekend and I’m going to need to go over it with you.”
“Fine. Hit me with it.” I show no amount of excitement towards the strict schedule I know he’s going to present to me
He takes a large breath and starts his speech essentially “December 23rd, 3pm is shopping down at the shops near the theaters for Christmas, 5:15 is check in at the front of the theater where we’ll all go in together, 6 is when the play starts. Intermission is at 7:30. The play ends at 8:30. Then we go directly into dinner at my moms best friends house, she lives just down the street from the theater. She insists on being called aunt whitney. And after dinner we all stay in the living room back home together watching Christmas movies as we all pass out downstairs on the couches and floor.”
I blink in response at his literal word barf he just had
He releases a much needed sigh as he catches his breath from the long set of directions
“That’s all?”
“And an occasional family photo in there. My mom gets a yearly photo of us at the theater.”
“I see.” It’s overwhelming thinking about the detailed plans we can’t stray far from “And everyone has to go to this play?”
He laughs at my joke, not even realizing I had no humor behind the comment as my face remains seldom at his reaction
My nose scrunches in response as I say “It’s required?”
His eyebrow lifts as he rubs his hand down his lips saying “Yeah. Pretty much.”
Getting ready and dressed for the play was a task in itself. My luggage was still not here, I called the airline this morning and they’d told me they put it on the plane over last night, and that it should be here
The customer service claimed it is taking longer for received to be processed but I just think my bags been lost
Chris reassures me saying “You look very cute.”
I grumble as I pull on the itchy sweater around my top half. Shanna and Carly didn’t have much for me to pick through. They gave me a box of their old clothes from their teenage years and each item screamed 90’s.
Chris insisted I needed something somehow related to Christmas and this is what was found
An itchy ugly Christmas sweater with a slightly raunchy icon on the front of it. Chris laughed at the sight of it and Scott was just over the moon with laughter and happiness at the sight of me
“You look ridiculous, I love it.”
My eyes roll and Lisa smiles with a chuckle saying “You’re in luck we’re headed to the stores.”
“Thank god. I think I’m developing a rash from this material.” I say honestly as I scratch my arms and the whole group grows humorously loud with their laughter
Exhaling a breath I push Chris out the front door so we can leave
A few photos was an understatement, Lisa got photos of everything
Scott pulling my braid for example, the slap I gave him to the shoulder shortly after.
Everything.
Even Chris kissing me pretty passionately in the Christmas section of old navy
She smiled and wandered around to take more photos
I’d never shopped at some of these stores. What even is wet seal and why would anyone shop at a store named that?
And alas with Scott and Carly’s help I had found something to wear, not after at least a hundred photos were taken of me in this get up
Carly and Scott watch as I pull the sweater off with the dressing room door left ajar and Scott says “There’s a lock, y’know.”
“It’s broken.”
Lisa stares as she approaches saying “Do you want me to hold the door for you?”
I struggle with the top saying “Y-yeah that’d be great.”
The button catches on my hair and I struggle to fix the problem
She hears me shuffling and struggling “you need any help?”
“God yes. The button is stuck on my hair.”
The door swings open and she pauses for a second as I turn towards her, my arms stuck above my head as the button pulls on my hair
She looks to my exposed top half and says “Wow you are in good shape.”
“Thank you…. It comes with the movie requirements.”
“How’d you manage to get this twisted up?”
“I really… have no idea.”
Chris nudges Scott asking “hey is that jeweler still in business here?”
Carly whips her head towards him, nearly giving herself neck pain as she asks “What?!”
Scott winces at her squeaky voice and Chris says “would you keep it down? I need a necklace or something for mom.”
“Oh.” She says with a deflated tone
Scott nods saying “Yeah. I can go with you. It’s just a few shops down.”
“Can you slow those two down? I don’t want mom to see what I’m buying and if y/n escapes mom she’ll go hunting for both of us.”
Carly nods saying “Can do.”
Scott and Chris wander out of the store and Scott says “You bought mom that stupid espresso machine I thought.”
“I did.”
“Oh my god.” Scott smiles and pushes his brother saying “You little brat! I can’t believe you’re actually committing to something so long term. This is crazy. I mean, I don’t blame you. She’s like a million times better than you and so out of your league but still I’m shocked.”
“You’re a pain in my ass y’know?”
Lisa smiles as she untangles my hair saying “My girls used to always get into predicaments like this all the time. This one time Shanna had woken up and she had chewed gum right before she fell asleep. And she’d woken up with it in her hair, tangled up to the roots. I had to cut her hair. She had bangs all 6th and 7th grade.”
I chuckle saying “Oh boy. I bet she never chewed gum before bed after that.”
“You can bet your behind she didn’t chew gum for years.”
We both laugh and the silence sits once our laughs die down
“You’re a beautiful young woman, y/n. I just… I hate the way he does these things.”
I narrow my eyes to her, growing confused as she straightens out my sweater
“He gets so bright eyed and bushy tailed for a woman and he takes her home to us and soon after their whole relationship crumbles. I blame the divorce, it gave him so many commitment issues. No matter how old your children are divorce still effects them so much.”
I exhale a breath and as it leaves my body it feels jagged and pained “What-what do you mean? How many girls has he done this with?”
“Only a few. I’m sorry. He’d be so angry with me if he knew I brought this up. I just can’t bare to see another girl so broken up about this.”
I blink in response to her, long blinks, trying to keep my resolve. Remembering what she said about me before
Maybe this is just her poor attempt at deterring me.
I swallow thickly and my shoulders raise as I tense and take a step out of the dressing room
I pull the tag off the sweater and Carly says “Find the sweater?”
I nod, feeling dizzy and nauseous all of the sudden
It’s the sudden realization that she either really doesn’t want me in her family or Chris has been lying to me or conveniently forgetting to tell me
As soon as my card swipes and goes through I book it towards the theater and the rest of the family slowly migrates behind me
Following my lead
Chris smiles to Scott as they emerge from the jeweler
“Last minute Christmas gift?”
Chris nearly jumps ten feet in the air at the immediate presence of his mother
The bag jumps in his hand and he squeezes it with both hands. His rapid heart beat growing as he shakes his head saying “Forgot gram. Sorry.”
“You alright? You look flushed.”
Her hand presses to his forehead saying “You don’t feel hot. Are you alright?”
“I’m fine ma. Where’s y/n?”
“Oh she took off quickly, those long legs of hers sure move fast. She couldn’t be bothered to walk our speed.”
Chris sighs at his moms snide comment saying “I’m gonna go find her.”
He pushes the gift off on Scott as he quickly goes to find me
I stand at the theater with the husbands and children, waiting.
“Ready for the ugliest family photo to be taken? Somehow Lisa gets the worst angles of us every year.”
I sniffle a laugh saying “Sounds like my sister. She only posts the flattering photos of herself. I still remember the selfie she took with my sick figure in the background when I got mono in the 9th grade.”
The group laugh and Ryan says “Lisa made me stand in for a family photo when I had a black eye from taking a baseball to the face. Most humiliating Christmas card ever.”
The group of men erupt into laughter again as I join them
“I see you’re getting along nicely with the husbands.”
I shrug at Chris’ grasp on my shoulder “Mmhm.” Is all I give him in response before I hear his mothers voice “Gather up, come on. You know the formation we always do.”
Chris pulls me in the formation and grows distracted as his nephew asks him to tie his shoes for him
Lisa smiles to me saying “Will you be a doll for me and take the photo for us?”
I nod and step away from the family feeling uncomfortable all of the sudden
Like the breath in my lungs dried up and the lump in my throat tripled in size
Scott was late to show up and he nearly offered to take the photo before his mother bickered with him to get in the photo
Chris looks up confused as his mother attempts to get everyone’s attention towards the camera
He says “Why isn’t she in the photo?”
“Married couples only. You know the rule.”
“What rule…?” His voice is drowned out as I click the phone camera and every other device that was pushed onto me
Bickering erupts in the family as the kids push each other off each other and my eyes widen behind the phones and cameras at the chaos
It’s all overwhelming
The family breaks apart as they all grab their devices and a few thank me
Chris finds me shortly after and I push his moms camera and phone into his hands as I go to follow the group
He catches my arm saying “Honey.” He exhales into the nickname and I can tell he’s already thinking about damage control for his next sentence
“My mom gets weird about the family photos, I’m sorry.”
“I don’t care about that. I heard her, married couples only. It’s fine. The play is starting soon. We need to get our seats.”
He drops the devices into his pockets and says “Hold on. They can wait. They’ll save our seats. It doesn’t start for another 25 minutes.”
Not wanting to get into an argument or anything right now I breathe in and say “Look, I don’t want to start anything with your mom or to make her dislike me any more. Let’s just go in. If you still want to even talk about this later. We can. Right now I’m just looking forward to the few hours of no talking and just…entertainment.”
He nods slowly and says “I love you, y/n. I know this can’t be easy.”
I press my hand to his cheek, feeling the tears well up as I nod saying “Let’s head inside.”
He kisses the bare skin on the front of my hand, the base of each finger with urgency and delicacy
The crisp and quick chill in the snowy surroundings cuts through me, ruining the moment as I shiver at the discomfort
No matter the beauty of my surroundings, nothing could get rid of this anxiety and nausea I’m still feeling
Not the beautiful theater that is weathered with age and beauty, could be at least half a century old or older
The wood chipped exterior but it still felt welcoming to the eye with the brightly colored bubblegum pink doors and the Christmas decorations hung so high up that it caused me to question how someone got up there to do that
Chris could see the gears turning in my head as I walk into the theater and grew confused on where to go immediately
His hand found mine the minute confusion etched itself onto my expression
“I’ve been here thousands of times. All of us kids performed here for years. You would’ve loved me as the ghost of Christmas future.”
I shake my head saying “I was in the nutcracker meanwhile.” My smile widens and he says “Much more normal I suppose. Should’ve seen my performance as Christopher Robin. My mom still calls it my best performance.”
My eyes roll as I push his shoulder saying “I’m sure she let that go to your head.”
He scoffs jokingly as the smell of stale popcorn hugs the walls of the building like wallpaper as we walk further into the building
It’s crowded, full of big families
Wives with their hands in their children’s hair desperately trying to tame it, or wives bickering with their husbands, fixing their ties. Tightening them as the husband pulls to loosen it
I grow observant as the room grows loud with voices all around me, babies crying loudly, children arguing with each other.
Old grandparents complaining.
Grandchildren whining.
I grow consumed into their dialogue like it’s a script I need to learn and Chris pulls me back saying “Here we are.”
My attention snaps to the big family as they all sit comfortably in the seats. Lisa is in a row with all her grandchildren
My eyes fall on the only two open seats left. One in one row, and the other in the row behind it. Directly behind the other
I swallow thickly with annoyance as I look to Lisa who appears busy with her grandchildren
“Ma, why didn’t you save us seats beside each other?”
“The kids wanted to sit with me. I’m sorry alright? You two are practically beside each other this way anyway.”
“Two completely different rows…” I mutter, my eyes look for Scott as he’s pressed into the corner of the rows and Chris says “Scott move down here—”
“Chris the play is starting in a few minutes, if you would have gotten here sooner like everyone else we could’ve taken your opinion into account.”
Chris let’s puts out a defeated sigh saying “Miles, you’re sitting on my lap.”
“Chris.” His mom gives him a warning tone and I squeeze his shoulder saying defeatedly as my voice grows quiet “I’m just— I’m going to go to the bathroom.”
“No, that’s not necessary. y/n.” He attempts to reassure me
Carly agrees saying “Scott and everyone can move over and we can make enough room—”
“My mom has been calling me. I think I’m just going to do that.”
I quickly leave and the doors shut quickly after me, Chris is pushed into a seat by the usher and sighs loudly
He looks to his sisters and they shrug. Tears wash down my face as I desperately call my mom
She answers saying “You deciding to finally join us?”
“I want to. Mom this is going so badly, they hate me.”
The line holds the silence as I sit at the bench near the water fountain, crying into the phone
“Why would they hate you?”
“I’m controlling.”
She scoffs saying “Let me talk some sense into them. Where is Scott and Chris? Why aren’t they defending you?”
With the deep exhale as my hand stays pressed under my eyes I say “I didn’t tell Chris. It’s like we’re being suffocated by his family constantly. They wanted me to board with Scott and Chris had to interfere on that. And god… everything is a fight. A fight to include me or anything and everything. It’s all so different from home.”
My mother laughs on the other line, completely setting me over the edge as I feel insane and completely invalidated. My mom was never good with emotions. I don’t know what I expected
She was old fashioned, and the strongest person to exist, but lacked the motherly comfort and care all the others had
Maybe it’s because I was born so late into her life.
Maybe it’s just her
She shakes her head saying “Welcome to life with in-laws. I hated your fathers parents.”
I shake my head and a hand squeezes my shoulder. I look up, meeting Chris’ eyes and sigh as I say “I’ve got to go mom.”
The call ends before I wait for her response, I look up to him saying “This sucks.”
He nods saying “my moms being so difficult I’m sorry.”
“That’s putting it lightly.”
The side of the bench shifts as he sits down beside me, I look to him saying “you’re missing out on the family traditions.”
“It’s either fall asleep during the play or stay out here with my beautiful girlfriend.”
My head falls onto his shoulder and the words that leave my mouth bring the guilt forward for him “I just wish they liked me as much as you like me.”
He holds my hand tightly saying “Give it time. I’ll try harder, and my mom will soften to you in no time.”
“She called me controlling. Said you gave that idea.”
He freezes up and my eyes don’t leave the ground as I can feel him thinking through the ominous silence
“I didn’t say anything like that. My mom claims that those women are my type.”
“How many women have you taken to this play, Chris?”
He tenses under me saying “Too many. I’m sorry.”
“I had a feeling, this doesn’t seem like it’s going to get any easier.”
His hand presses to my head as his fingers tenderly fall through my hair as he exhales “It will, you’re so much more to me than anyone I’ve ever brought home.”
We both melted into each other as my body rests on his as we kiss on the bench, my shoulder hitting his as the play goes on
At intermission we enter the play and as I go to sit in the line seat he pulls me onto his lap and his mom gives him a look “Christopher.”
“Not now mom.” He plays her off
Eventually the kids grow restless and a few move back towards their parents. I rest on the seat beside Chris and we watch the second half
The minute we arrived at Aunt Whitney’s I was immediately evaluated. She smiles widely with her silver tooth shining in the back of her molars.
She squeezed my upper arms as she informed me “You’re stunning.”
I smile to her and she looks to Chris saying “you two are picture perfect.”
“Thank you, aunt whitney. Mom needs influencing, can you..?”
She nods quickly saying “of course.” That was probably the last I saw her that night, every once in awhile we saw the blur of her grayed bob haircut as she nearly glided past us
Once the night dragged on it felt more comforting, Chris was practically glued to my side
By the grace of Whitney, Lisa softened a bit to me. I could tell because the way she looked towards me was different. Indescribable but not negatively
It was fun seeing all the grown ups act like kids when it came time for movie night.
You know the feeling of spending the night at your grandparents house when you’re 7 years old? Where you slept didn’t matter, and you felt comfort just being in the house
I could see why they loved this place so much, and with time I think I could grow to love it too.
“Did he tell you what Christmas Eve entails, y/n?”
“No, should I be worried?”
Scott laughs as Chris glares at him. I look between them saying “shit.”
“As long as you’re fine with snow, caroling, farm animals, and Santa we’ll be fine.”
“Is it a bad time to tell you I’m not good with farm animals?”
He tenses and says “great…”
“the polar opposite of our mother in that department.” Scott laughs and shakes his head “mom is going to have a field day knowing that.”

Christmas cheer
When a relationship not known by Chris’ family is suddenly front and center when he insists on her coming to his family Christmas festivities. Just how insane can she expect it to be? And how bad will it effect her relationship?
Tumblr media
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
“I just need my bathing suit and I’ll have all my clothes ready to be packed.” I tell him as I hold the laundry basket in my arms
He nods as he remains half out of it staring at me
“Chris?”
“Mmhm?”
“What’s on your mind?”
He sighs as he sits up saying “I’m not liking the idea of not being together on Christmas. The best holiday.”
I drop the laundry basket and walk over to him, I sit on the armrest of the chair as he pulls me towards him
His lips press to my shoulder as he says “The Bahamas are so lame right now. Change your flight. Let’s go there for New Years. Boston is so beautiful right now.”
Sighing I say “My whole family is there, and they would love to meet you. You know that. I talk about you all the time and my mom already loves you. Why don’t you come with me? And then we can celebrate New Years with your family?”
Slowly he considers giving in as my eyes practically melt him and my lips press to his as I smile widely
The corners of his lips curve upwards in response to me and he groans saying “My mom and sisters would kill me if I missed Christmas. My nieces and nephews are expecting me there.”
Nodding I sigh saying “So basically we can’t spend the holiday together. And we’re back to square one.”
He smiles to me and says “Yeah. I guess so.”
But that look on his face for a split second was awfully mischievous and I know he’s up to something.
He pushes my hair out of my face and kisses my collarbones as we draw closer to each other
“It’s snowing in Boston. Have you ever been to Boston when it’s snowing?”
“No. I haven’t.”
“Winter is my second favorite season there. A white Christmas is my favorite. And my family goes all nine yards.”
“Oh really? What do they do?”
He smiles and says “Well my whole big family pile into my childhood home and we spend the whole week together. My mom has us baking and cooking all week and we go see a Christmas play on Christmas Eve. And we have a Christmas Eve party after. And Christmas Day is the best, seeing my niece and nephews excitement over the gifts is the best. My mom makes us spiked hot chocolate and we have this massive dinner. It’s literally heaven.”
The pause sits for awhile as I think on my family, my parents have my sisters and all their friends in the Bahamas with them currently
I paid for the vacation, called it an early Christmas gift.
But… Boston doesn’t sound too bad
“If.. I can change my flight, I’m in.”
His eyes widen suddenly as he looks to me surprised saying “You’re serious?”
I scoff saying “Was that not a real offer?”
“No! No it was real. I’ll.. I’ll call my mom telling her you’re coming along.”
I nod and stare at the laundry across the room. I sigh saying “im not going to need that bathing suit am I?”
He laughs whole heartedly and I grumble saying “You owe me time at the beach. I need ocean and sun time.”
“Promise. New Years with your family in the Bahamas. We can stay a week longer than your family. Just us.”
I sigh into him as I grow relaxed, nodding saying “That sounds perfect. Just what I need after the shit-show movie I just wrapped.”
“He was a terrible director.”
“He made me pull my hair out. I need to strictly rely on Greta and Sofia for work. They’re the only tolerable directors I’ve worked with. Besides obviously the marvel projects.”
He nods saying “Making everyone work on a holiday is crazy.”
“Well you saw how well that worked out for him.”
Chris laughs saying “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie crew so happy that an actress went full diva for them.”
“They all deserved to be with their families, regardless if they celebrated the holiday or not.”
“Trust me, I know they were thankful.”
I sigh saying “Yeah…. Now tell me what I need to pack for Boston.”
“You need to start with at least 3-4 coats or jackets.”
I make a winced face and say “You’re kidding.”
“That doesn’t include winter coats. Do you have a winter—”
He pauses as he looks to me as I produce a pinched expression and shrug saying “I don’t own anything like that.”
“We’ve got a lot of work to do then.”
The flight was simple enough, I overpacked and had to check my bag. Chris didn’t have to, he had a small enough bag for it to be a carry on
I realized how big of a mistake it was to check my bag the minute I started looking through the carousels for my suitcase
Only to my surprise it never came around. Chris felt terrible as the flight attendant informed me that my suitcase, along with half the passengers were left to fly out on the next plane
I blinked in response to her, feeling anger rise within me “what do you mean you left my suitcase?”
“It will be delivered here in a few hours. We can ship it to the address you—”
“I just want my things! Why couldn’t you fit my suitcase on the plane?”
“There are certain rules and regulations we need to follow, the flight was sold out and we couldn’t exceed a certain weight—”
“Everything I need is in my suitcase! It’s 25 degrees out! I need my things!”
Chris wraps his arm around me attempting to calm me down saying “Honey… honey it’s alright. We’ll figure it out.”
I scoff saying “Don’t give me that. You carried your suitcase on. You have everything you could possibly need. I have nothing. My scripts were in there. I needed to run those lines.”
He sighs and attempts to comfort me as he looks to the lady saying “How soon will it be shipped?”
“The second it’s in our custody. You should get it by tomorrow.”
“That’s not so bad, you’ll have all your things by tomorrow. In the meantime we’ll figure something out.”
The Bahamas are sounding a lot better now
“Yeah. Okay..” I say unconvinced and on edge
Chris had called his mom a day ago telling her he was bringing his girlfriend and she was surprised to find out so late in advance
Pretty frustrated this is one of the few times she’d even heard about me.
But before I wasn’t even his girlfriend, we were just going on a few dates. He thought it was easier to just say that to his mother instead
We were both so busy, there was no time to share with anyone else but each other
And we used every single minute we could find with the other
He’d fly to me and leave in the morning. Or I’d fly in at 9am and have to leave at 12am.
He knows he should have mentioned his girlfriend earlier, to not only his mother but probably his sisters and practically anyone else in his family
I ask as he drives our rental car towards the house “Scott’s there already?”
He’s the one person I really knew from his family, considering how often he visited
“Yeah. He just got to the house this morning.”
I swallow hard saying “And your mom, Lisa knows I’m coming to Christmas?”
“She knows, relax y/n. There’s nothing to worry about. My mom will love you and we’ll have a great time.”
“So your older is Carly, and Shanna is your younger sister. Then there’s your dad and he’s a dentist. And then there’s miles and—”
“Clearly you’ve done your research.”
I sigh as I run my hands down my face saying “I wouldn’t even need to. You love your family, you talk about them constantly. I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve met them. I could probably recite their birthdays at this point… oh my god. Don’t let me say that to them. I’m losing my mind. I’m so nervous, were you this nervous to meet my mom?”
He laughs as I scramble my sentences together quickly, talking way too fast
“Your mother gave me no warning, I met her in my boxers while I was getting the paper. I had no time to be nervous.”
I smile and look to him saying “She thought you were handsome immediately.”
He shakes his head saying with a chuckle “No, her first comment was asking why I was so pale.”
Laughing I shake my head saying “I can’t believe she said that.”
“She wasn’t wrong.”
He livens up my mood just switching the topic, I feel better already. He squeezes my hand saying “Just don’t overthink this and you’ll do great. Promise.”
And that’s when we turned down a street where I saw a suburban neighborhood, it was different than I was used to
There was an inflatable Santa on the large patch of grass in the front yard and lights thrown up onto the gutters, brightly colored
The driveway was full and it made me uneasy. Chris put the car in park and once he turned off the engine he looked to me “you ready to go in?”
“The gifts were in my suitcase, Chris. I have nothing for them—”
“You have your bright smile. That’s enough, we can go shopping in the morning or wait for your suitcase. All that matters is the gifts under the tree by Christmas.”
A sigh releases my lips as I look to the sprawl of inflatables across the front yard that I hadn’t noticed earlier
Some that are so clearly Boston suburbia that it’s odd to me
“Oh. That’s Jim. Moms had that inflatable for decades. It’s older than all the grandkids combined.”
“What is… it supposed to be?”
“It used to be an 8foot tall snowman, one of the first to be released. But it’s face wore off so is kids drew a new one on with sharpie and… yeah that was the result.”
Scott slowly sneaks around the car, and slams his palms into the glass of my car door
I scream as I jerk my head towards him and heave heavy breaths as my screaming stops
Chris laughs loudly and boisterous as I nearly kick the door open. It hitting Scott as I climb out, pushing his shoulder as his laugher only annoys me
“You’re an asshole!”
He and Chris just think my reaction is the funniest thing possible
“Did you hit your head when you jumped that high?”
He tumbles to the ground as he falls in the snow and practically cries with laughter
I huff in annoyance saying “Why would you do that?”
“He didn’t tell you?” Scott struggles to say as he gasps for air as his laughter slows
I look to Scott saying “We have a whole competition going, scaring each other. We do this basically every time everyone’s home.”
Chris smiles as he says “She has an out, it’s her first Christmas with us. She is free of the jump scares.”
“No way! She needs to experience the evans family Christmas in every way.”
Chris gives Scott a look and I walk away saying “I’m freezing. Can we please go inside.”
Scott nods saying “that sounds like a great idea.”
Chris nods as he lifts his suitcase through the snow and pulls his jacket off as he drapes it over my shoulders
I look to him thankfully as I tighten it around me. I slow to a stop as I wait for one of the two brothers to lead the way
Chris steps in front of me as he says “You okay?”
“Yeah. Just cold—” but I’m cut off by Scott running towards us and throwing a snowball into the back of Chris’ head
Scott laughs as I feel the corners of my smile turning upwards quickly as I laugh quietly as Chris huffs out a breath of annoyance
“oh… little brother you so shouldn’t have started this.”
“Chris.” I plead as his hand digs into the snow
“Just let me reach this little punk a lesson.”
And they’re already at it with each other. I stand there as Chris creates a snow ball throwing it towards his brother as Scott ducks out of the shot
My sisters and I were never like this. They were 12-15 years older than me. By the time I was 5-6 years old they were out of the house or in college. I was basically an only child with occasional visits from my sisters
But Bree moved to England for a job and Elise lives across the US. Hawaii, with her husband. Her husband is stationed in the navy there
I wince as both Scott and Chris tumble roughly into the snow but I smile because it’s hilarious
“They do this often.”
My shoulders jump at the voice, I thought I was alone out here
I look to the woman and say “And I’m sure it’s entertaining every time.” My smile shines towards her and she breathes out a laugh saying “Yeah. Most of the time. I’m Shanna. You must be y/n, his girlfriend. Right?”
Nodding I say “yes, that is me. I’m sorry to intrude on your Christmas, he insisted I have a Boston Christmas.”
“You don’t have family around here?”
I pause and say “They’re in the Bahamas for Christmas.”
“And you picked this over that?” She laughs as I shake my head saying “I couldn’t leave him. We try to spend any second we can together. I’m sorry, are you Carly or Shanna? Chris talks about his sisters so much but I can’t place your name.”
She smiles saying “Shanna. His younger sister.”
“Oh okay. Thank you.
She nods saying “How’d the two of you meet?”
“Work. Of course. There’s not really anywhere else I could’ve meet someone.”
“You’re an actor too?”
I nod and say “Yeah.”
“Are you cold? We could go in while they sort this whole thing out?”
I look towards Chris as he has Scott pinned down with knee pressed against his back.
Scott’s face doesn’t leave the patch of snow as Chris tells him to tap out
I look to their sister saying “Is this normal?”
Shanna smiles saying “Yes. When they’re around each other they get like this. They’re brothers that’s for sure haha.”
I bite at my lip saying “I really am freezing. We could go in.. I’m just anxious.”
“Why don’t you head in while I get these idiots into the house?”
She steps away before I can argue the offer
I swallow hard and walk towards the house, I so don’t want to go in alone
Scott is pulled up from the snow and pushes his brother as he looks to me as Chris brushes off the snow on his clothes
“Babe, you can head in. You look like you’re about to freeze.”
I nod to Chris and ask “Just walk in?”
“My ma doesn’t care, she has everyone just walk right in.”
I stare at the door as I push it open and enter the house. Shutting it behind me to keep all the warmth in the house
I’m first hit with voices and I slow to a stop as I attempt not to intrude
But then I quickly realize they’re talking about me
“No, this is really the first time he’s ever brought her up. He told me all about her a day ago and that she was coming for Christmas.”
“Shanna is laying into her for answers and to find out what kind of person she is. God I hope she’s not some arrogant brat.”
My eyes widen suddenly as my arms drop to my sides quickly
“God knows Chris has poor taste in women. Should be interesting to meet her. From what he’s told me she’s a bit high maintenance.”
My eyebrows shoot up at that and I huff in annoyance
“I can only hope she isn’t some privileged obnoxious child. Chris didn’t give me much, only that they didn’t want to be apart. It sounds like they’re pretty serious.”
“How close could they be if he kept her hidden from us? She’s got to be the reason he skipped literally everything for thanksgiving but the dinner. He literally rolled in here at 3 and left by 8.”
The pause in conversation leaves me frozen in the entry way as I feel like I just stepped into something I shouldn’t hear
“You think he’s fallen for a girl who will keep him from us for holidays? That’s often what happens when a son marries someone.”
“You think they’re getting married?! He hardly knows the girl. God bless her but Chris could never commit to something like that. You know the cycle, give it a few more months and they’ll have moved on.”
“He said she can be difficult, especially under pressure. Like I said super high maintenance.”
“Probably means controlling.”
Excuse me?
“If this girl is wrong for him I’ll have a conversation with him. He’s my son, he’ll listen to me. She’ll be just another ex girlfriend if we don’t like her—”
I can feel the lump in my throat growing as I reach for the door handle but it opens and I take a step back as Chris steps in
He looks to me confused as I remain hovering by the door like I wanted to bolt, his arms find their way around my sides saying “you alright?”
My shoulders tighten and wind up as my whole body tightens up, I shrug in response as I slip from his grasp
Scott shouts “Ma! Chris and y/n are here!”
Chris huffs in response to his brother
The group of people file towards us as my hands pull at the zipper sides of Chris’ jacket that’s tightly wrapped around my body
Tightening it around me
“Chris!”
He bounds for his mother, and you could tell how much he loves him mom. That’s a strong hug around her. Clearly he missed her
Maybe she was right, I didn’t think I was keeping him from his family
Suddenly I feel super out of place as their whole family hugs and speaks to each other
Slowly I slip into the background of the family as my back presses to the door, everything growing overwhelming
“My sweet boy. I’m so happy you’re here.”
Controlling.
That word wanders around my head as I feel the weight of it
High maintenance
How could she have all these opinions of me before even meeting me?
Scott pulls away from his older sister saying “y/n, meet my sister Carly… y/n?” He looks behind him not finding me
I’m practically melting through the door as Chris suddenly pulls away from the conversation him and his mother are having
“honey?”
The people in front of me, serving as I wall suddenly break into two groups and the whole Evans family turns towards me
Chris looks to me with a widening smile and walks forward, grabbing my hand and saying “Everyone, this is my girlfriend y/n. I’ll introduce you to each person in a minute. Firstly, this is my ma.”
The woman looks to me and I feel the nauseous feeling grow as I stare at her nervously
She takes a step towards me as Chris’ warm hand leaves my back
She smiles and says “I’m Lisa. It’s so great to meet you.”
My grin slips as she pulls me into a hug and I grow frustrated as she says “Chris just adores you.”
I swear there’s sarcasm coming off her words
“Love, mom. I love her.” Chris confirms as his smile falls from his lips and I’m released. I’m basically introduced around and the minute I’m free from introductions I find Scott
He’s with Carly but I grab his wrist tightly and give him the crazy eyes. He excused himself from his sister as I pull him out front
“I have to get out of here.”
“What? What are you talking about?”
My hands pull down my face as I frown and say “Your mother doesn’t know I heard what she and Carly were saying in the kitchen.”
“What we’re they saying in the kitchen?” He leans forward, practically begging for the information
“Am I controlling?”
“What? Why would you…. Oh.” He pauses as he looks inside the glass panels for a second saying “she doesn’t know you. Don’t take what she said to heart. She probably read a bad article about you.”
I shake my head as I sit down on the front steps and he follows shortly after “They lost my suitcase. I have nothing. I’m feeling insecure enough already. And I know Chris is loving every minute of this but I’m just… overwhelmed and annoyed.”
Scott nods as he rubs my shoulder, and I continue saying “He never told his mom or anyone about me. They don’t know me. Would he have ever told them about me? He basically worships your mom. But I’m not important enough to be a topic?”
“I’m sure he has good reason, bee.”
I huff in response and cover my face saying “This is going to be a long week. You have to promise me you won’t leave my side. If Chris isn’t glued to my side you have to be. Please.”
His eyes widen and he says “That’s a big job.”
I narrow my eyes to him saying “Scott.”
He smiles lightly saying “Fine deal.”
“This is going to be a long week.” We both say in sync

The Marriage Pact
When Sloan and Chris become reunited and get more than a few drinks in their systems they remember something from their past, and it includes a marriage pact they made a decade ago. But the two decide to follow through with the agreement and get married!
warnings: mentions of sex, drinking, and swearing

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
“When I say birthday you say bitch!” My best friend Corrine shouts to the crowd of men at the bar
“Birthday”
“Bitch!”
“Birthday!”
“Bitch!!”
I shake my head at her as she remains standing on the bar stool across the way from me
I stare at the weird colored cocktail in my hands that she insisted I have
It’s extremely strong and very disgusting
“When Corrine texted me last week with an invite to celebrate your birthday I was honestly surprised.”
I look behind me quickly, seeing a very old friend that I haven’t spoken to in years
Chris smiles and hugs me tightly as I stare at him confused
“She invited you?”
“She invited a lot of people, clearly. How many of these people do you actually know Sloan?”
I look towards the groups of people and say “Probably about a fifth of them I’m acquainted with.”
His eyes widen as he laughs saying “Typical Corrine.”
“She sends out mass text messages, for all her parties. That’s where you come in, you must’ve accidentally been grouped in.”
He looks to me suspect saying “What you wouldn’t invite me by choice?”
I sigh saying “I don’t know, it’s been awhile.”
“Yeah it has, from what I’ve heard you’ve basically stopped acting?”
Shaking my head I say “Who told you that?”
He waves his phone saying “The internet. Your last show is going to be that sitcom? Really?”
“I need a break from acting. The roles I get are undeveloped and unenjoyable. I’m tired of playing the female arm candy in an action movie.”
“You’re done with Tom Cruises movies?”
I roll my eyes saying “Unless I get my own spin off, yeah.”
“That’s a shame. You’re so good at what you do, you need a better agent.”
Narrowing my eyes to him I say “It’s been at least 2 years since we’ve talked and this is what you want to talk about? What are you filming? Still at Marvel’s beck and call?”
He grumbles saying “funny. When you get a multi million dollar main character role you can have an opinion on my role but yeah I am still doing the marvel thing.”
“I can tell, you’re only in this good of shape when you’re filming marvel.”
“Thanks?”
I sigh and say “I also want a break to start a family or something. I’m ready to settle down.”
“Ah I see..”
“You want something to drink?” I ask
He nods saying “Yeah sure. What are you…having? Jesus what is that?” He motions towards the glittery glow in the dark drink in my hand
“It’s called a Sloan. Don’t ask me how Corrine thought of it, it’s nearly toxic waste.”
Chris looks over in the direction of our somewhat mutual friend getting men to shout in unison with her “I see she still has men wrapped around her finger.”
“She wouldn’t be Corrine if she couldn’t get men to wrap around her finger.”
“What’s she been up to in acting terms?”
I finish my drink and say “She’s in a new movie with Margot Robbie and Will smith.”
“Interesting pairing, I’ve gotta admit.”
I walk with him to the bar and the bartender says “What can I get you both?”
“Two more Sloan’s and also something drinkable.”
He smiles to us and Chris says “I’m not drinking that glittery toxic waste.”
“It’s my birthday are you forgetting that?”
“I hate when people leverage that. I already got you a gift. It’s in that disgustingly tall pile of gifts.”
“You owe me. It’s been 2 years since we’ve talked, you owe me.”
Grumbling he takes a sip as I carry the other drinks in my hands
He makes a face saying “It’s gross.”
I smile saying “good. Finish it.”
Shaking his head he says “this would kill my street cred y’know.”
“I’m sorry, what street cred?”
He scoffs as he finishes the drink and sets the glass down. He grabs the beer from my hand and says “I’m a beer guy, you know that.”
“And I’m a tequila gal, doesn’t mean Corrine cares.”
He nods and says “no family here today?”
I narrow my eyes to him saying “Surprised you didn’t read about that in the news.”
“What? What happened?”
Sighing I say “it is my birthday you know, and I really would like not discussing my family.”
“Fine, deal. No bringing up ex’s then.”
I smile saying “good. I was hoping you’d say that.”
“Does that mean you broke up with Garret??” He asks dumbfounded
Groaning I say “Don’t make me bring up Minka and Jessica.”
He groans loudly and says “I need more beer.”
He walks away and I follow as I laugh at his avoidance of the topic. I nudge him saying “Still want to ask about Garret?”
He narrows his eyes to me in annoyance as he pushes cash towards the bartender annoyed
“I’ll just ask him myself.”
I make a face and say “And Minka happens to go to the same spin class as me.” I smile to him
He huffs in annoyance and says “They wanted more and I wanted more time.”
I shake my head and say “Sounds about right.”
“Is that why you and Garret broke up?”
I scoff saying “No. Far from it. I wasn’t pushing him for more, he fell for his costar. She’s 10 years younger than me and she worships the ground he walks on. He told me about her and we were done. I threw his things off my balcony.”
His eyes widen and he says “Jesus.”
I shrug and say “There, you’re caught up on my romantic life.”
He laughs as I sigh, he says “I’m sorry. I was just curious. You guys were serious, at least I thought so.”
“We were, then I got swamped with work and he sought out comfort elsewhere. Fucking asshole..”
Chris and I laugh as I motion to the bartender for more tequila shots
“I have work tomorrow.”
“This should do nothing to you. Come on lightweight.”
The drunkenness quickly came over us as we just kept drinking together, the surroundings around us melted away as we caught up
“How’s your mom?” I ask as I squint at the beer in my hand
“She’s doing great. How’s yours?”
“Not going there right now.” I hum as I reach for my beer
“I think I’m drunk.” He says aimlessly as he stares at the ceiling that’s dimly lighting up the bar
“It feels great. It’s been too long.”
He smiles widely as my head hits his shoulder as I laugh and smile to him
His head rests on mine and he says “Another round please.” He motions towards the bartender
I spin the shot in my hand saying “This is the real Sloan! a shot and a beer to wash it down with… you know me so well.”
I smile to him as I turn my attention to him, he smiles saying “I’ve missed you so much.”
“Right back at you Evans. I’ve missed having friends that actually know me.”
We click our glasses together and say “Cheers to our reunion.”
He nods saying “Cheers to you, happy birthday Sloan Sloan.”
I smile and say “Ah I was wondering when that nickname was going to come up.”
I shoot back the shot and he follows after me a few seconds later
“Remember that stupid list we made?”
“When I was 22, i hadn’t met Garret yet and you were with Jessica. We wrote so many stupid things on that page.”
“Can’t remember what the paper even had on it.”
“We both wrote things we didn’t want each other to know for 10 years remember?”
I laugh and say “I remember.”
“God I wish we still had that paper.”
We both laugh as we sigh in defeat. I spin the liquid in the beer bottle as it dawns on me and I repeat “Under the three willow trees in our favorite park.. where the dog shit can’t be smelled from..”
He looks to me surprised and says “We buried it!”
I nod and he stands up quickly as I tumble out of my barstool from his sudden movement.
He steadies me as he holds my shoulders tightly
“We have to go.”
“What..?? This is my party!”
He nods saying “We have to go get it.”
I smile and say “Well okay I guess. But you owe me a cake I am going to miss my cake.”
“Deal.”
An Uber was called, we stumbled into the back seat as the woman says “You two alright back there?”
“Jimminy crickets we’re amazing! Oooo all this is for us? Okay… I see you.”
I grab the free candy and water she has set up for Uber guests
She pulls up to the park saying “You two going to be alright?”
Stumbling and basically rolling out of the car we laugh and i give her a thumbs up
“We’ll be perfect, thank you!” He thanks the driver as we approach the very dark park at this late of an hour
“I just love scary parks at this hour.”
“It’s not that late. It’s only like 1:30am or something like that.” He reassures me
As soon as we got to the trees I fell to my knees and struggled to dig at the grass. He laughed as he stumbled as he laughed so hard he fell over
I shush him and he laughs louder screaming “Who’s going to hear us out here!”
I crawl towards the play structure and steal some kids plastic pale and shovel
I dig at the grass and he grabs it from me saying “No, no let me.”
I sit back and watch as he digs with the weak shovel as it bends from his strength
He hits the box and I quickly push the shovel away as I impatiently pull the box that’s slightly damaged out
The dirt has eaten at it and the plastic bag hasn’t lasted very well
I guess it has been a decade
I pull the papers and read the list in my hands confused
I don’t remember this being in there
He pulls the bottom papers and reads them as I look through this written agreement that we signed
“Get this, I wrote that in ten years I hope I’ll be a more respectable actor and work on a award winning movie.”
He flips the page as he reads “In ten years I want to be married with a baby and a successful career. But all I really want is to be happy, whether that means giving up acting or not.”
His frown deepens as he looks to me as I read the list
1. Don’t let work get in the way of our friendship
Well clearly we didn’t follow up on that one
2. Help each other anytime it’s needed, career wise or otherwise.
He can’t help with things he doesn’t know about.
3. Always be each others backups, in any date scenario
That one was a stupid add, he only added that one because he knew he needed a date to his sisters wedding the next week. But I obliged.
4. In ten years, or less if we haven’t settled down and gotten married we’ll get married to each other
What the fuck ?!
I stare at the list of shit we wrote and I feel the stinging of a headache hit me as I go back to the first page
He pulls the other page from me as I go mute on him and he stares at me in confusion as I don’t respond to his questions
He reads through them with a smile and it only falters when he gets to number 4 and he looks to me as I stare at the agreement
He smiles and says “Ten years, huh?”
“Take this written agreement as a verbal and written contract that we are obligated and honored to marry the other if both see fit in their very single lives. Rules that may exempt the agreement would be a. A relationship b. A baby and a relationship c. A sexually transmitted disease d. a change in sexual orientation.”
Chris chuckles at the last two rules and I roll my eyes as I say “If not met with that criteria we are morally obligated to relieve each other of the embarrassment of being married too late in life.”
I scoff in annoyance saying “who wrote this shit oh my god.”
Chris smiles saying “I think it’s hilarious.”
“I think it’s- it’s… I don’t know!”
“I think we should listen to our twenty-something selves and follow up on this.”
I stare at him in shock and he nods saying “We promised, we’ve gotta follow up on this pact, we fell through with every other agreement, not this one too, come on.”
“We just started talking again,”
He nods saying “I haven’t had fun like this in years.. I feel like me when I’m with you. I haven’t felt like me in too long. Let’s go get our shotgun wedding, c’mon.”
I slowly warm up to the idea and my smile slowly widens as I begin to nod in agreement
He smiles back at me as his arms snake around me and lift me off the ground. Spinning around as we laugh loudly leads to us tumbling over again
“You call the Uber, I’ll look up a place to get married.”
I feel my fingers move but my mind not catching up as I proceed with our plans of marriage.
It seems completely rational to us and he shows me the 24/7 chapel only a city over and I smile widely as I nod saying “deal.”
He presses his hands to the sides of my face as his thumb brushes down my nose and he taps the top of my nose saying “deal.”
The Uber drive consisted of me sitting close to Chris with his arm wrapped around me as my hands held tightly to his other arm
Pulling up to the chapel the Uber driver didn’t say much but there expression wasn’t indescribable
But it irked me.
I straighten up my dress and lick my hands as I press them to Chris’ stray aways
He groans as he attempts to squirm away from me as I insist on fixing his hair
I nod as I smile saying “perfect.. you look perfect.”
“Thank you, you look beautiful.”
We enter the establishment and the lady behind the podium welcomes us and gets us on the fast track to getting married
“We have a selection of rings to pick from if you haven’t purchased one yet, we offer a character wedding, Elvis, and a few other options. There’s a tropical wedding, a traditional-”
I cut her off saying “traditional.”
Chris smiles saying “no Elvis?”
I push his shoulder as I shake my head. We are brought to the ring area and he immediately picks the ring that sticks out to him
It’s what stuck out to me, it was surprisingly beautiful for the other options they had
I shook the fake ministers hand as we met him 2 minutes before we were to be married
“I need you both to sign this document.”
I squinted my eyes as I read the words on the document and it was a basic marriage document and I flipped the page and signed my name across the bottom quickly
Chris scribbled his name quickly, not taking a second glance and says “if the misses says it’s safe to sign I believe her.”
The minister walks us down the isle as the director of the weddings clips a waist length veil onto my hair
I nod to her in appreciation and the ceremony proceeds as the alcohol was still very influential in the ceremony even happening
The pictures were taken as the minister asks “This is both of your opportunities to say something about the other.”
Chris nods and squeezes my hand saying “You’re my best friend, Sloan Sloan. I felt incomplete without you in my life and having you back in my life means everything. I can’t wait to navigate this new adventure with you as my wife.”
My cheeks redden as I blush and my heart flutters and does back flips.
He tilts his head to me as he admires my smile and he pulls my hand to his lips as he kisses them delicately
I swallow thickly as I say “There’s no one else I could possibly do this with, it’s only you that could put me at ease like this. You are my best friend and I can’t wait to be married to you. I love you, Chris.”
He smiles and the officiant smiles as they say “do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
“I do.” I nod as my brain is still foggy
“and do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
“I do.”
Chris smiles widely as the man says “I pronounce you husband and wife.”
Before the man can continue Chris kisses me, and once we got started kissing we didn’t stop
His arms wrapped around me as he dipped me into the kiss and the officiant shakes his head muttering “Jesus..”
The wedding director smiles widely and pats our shoulders saying “A few more pictures.”
We take our pictures and are handed glasses of champagne and a bottle as we are directed to the restaurant next door
Chris says “Hello wife.”
I smile as I look to him saying “Hello husband.”
We both laugh as we stumble towards the Italian restaurant next door
“What would you say to skipping the dinner and going home?” I chime
He looks to me and says “Sounds like a square deal.”
The second we got into the Uber his lips were pressed to my neck as the driver visibly cringed
The car ride was fast as the man clearly wanted us out of his car.
Chris lifted me as he stumbled in step up to my house. I laughed as I hung off his shoulder and he patted the back of my legs as he sang everlasting love by natalie cole
“This will be… an everlasting love..!! Ooo..yes it will be!”
He is hilarious and I haven’t laughed this hard in too long
He jingled the key into the door and shifted me in his arms as soon as the door was open.
He carried me through the door frame bridal style and says “Now it’s official!”
The door is kicked shut behind us as he walks like a blind mouse through the pitch black house
We laugh loudly as we bump into every object in my house as our lips are glued together
His teeth pull on my bottom lip as I mumble “Past the guest room. And laundry… keep going.”
We hit the wall again and he releases my lip as my lips press to his cheek
“You’ve almost got it.”
And victoriously he finds my bed and we fall into it slowly as he lands on me carefully, keeping his lips attached to the exposed skin on my neck
“We should’ve done this years ago.”
I hmm in response as I can’t talk through the blissful tingling I feel throughout my body
“Y-yeah.” I say as his lips trail down the exposed skin around my dress as his hands reach behind my back, searching for the zipper
The zipper breaks through his impatience and I grumble as I grow uncomfortable with the heat between my legs
“Just rip the dress- Chris..”
He didn’t have to be asked twice, the dress was ripped from the fabric at the zipper and he pulled it off me roughly as I mumbled into his skin as he hovered over me “oh finally…”
He pauses for a minute as his eyes retreat down to my exposed chest, my back arching at his hands moving down to my waist, the exposed skin quickly showcasing new goosebumps
“didn’t need a bra with that dress- did-did you?”
His fleeting eyes look to mine as I produce a furrowed look, my expression asking him what he’s waiting for
He slides his hands up to my face and says “Are you okay? You alright?”
I nod quickly and say “I’m perfect. I’m happy.”
“That’s all I want for you, lo.”
I nod as I heave a breath saying “Are you okay?”
“More than okay. I’ve wanted this for a long, long time. Is this- is me doing this, is it okay?”
I nod in agreement quickly saying “Not if you wait any longer, you’re killing me…”
I squirm while I’m under him, in near desperation as his grin runs wide and his eyebrows pop
“Oh… I see..”
He laughs as I hmm in response, patience is not my strong suit
“I got you, as your husband, I’ve got you all taken care of.”
And he does, he easily does. My eyes flutter in relief and the rush of adrenaline hits me as my hips rise up in response to him
“good job, honey.”

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Scott enters our house smiling and says “I’ve got him, he’s a hand full isn’t he?”
My smile widens as my sons handed to me and Scott says “By the way, as usual I better be your first call for babysitting.”
I bounce my son on my hip and say “Oh, for sure. Sure as hell before my sister.”
He laughs and says “Now where’s that husband of yours?”
I sigh and say “Working. But I’ve got to plan for my date night tonight. You still on to babysit tonight?”
Scott nods saying “Of course. I’ll pump him full of sugar and junk food just for you.”
I push him and say “Not funny.”
“Is it really date night or just a work function again?”
I sigh and say “These days they’re the same thing. You know when you’re married for awhile any alone time is a date night.”
I smile and Scott says “Well tell him I told him to buy you a bigger ring. I mean, come on. You’re a steal. You think he could afford a nicer ring.”
I shake my head as I bounce my son and say “What do you think Jack? You think I need a bigger ring?”
He giggles and I say “There’s our answer. I like this ring. It’s got a lot of memories.”
Years ago. This moment was years ago.
But it is replayed through my head so often.
Scott rolls his eyes saying “Chris gets some real acting gigs and you guys still live in this two bedroom house with me?”
“We like being close to family. We get a live in babysitter. And Jack loves you. You know that.”
“Clearly he loves Uncle Scott time. Do you think he’ll always be this happy and easy going?”
Jack pulls on my hair and I say to Scott “I hope so. He’s such a good kid though. Who would’ve thought Chris’s kid would be this calm and easy going.”
We both laugh and the front door opens “Jack Jack!”
I roll my eyes as Chris enters and Jack gets overly excited, nearly squirming out of my arms as he hiccups and squeals for Chris
Chris rounds the corner with a big smile on his face saying “Hello my beautiful and lovely wife. Hello brother.” he kisses my cheek as I smile to him
He nods to Scott and scoops Jack from my arms, tossing him up and sending Jack into a fit of giggles as he catches him
Chris kisses my lips saying “How was the Evans family while I was gone?”
Scott says “She was just complaining about her small ring.”
I scoff and say “Shut up! I was not.”
Chris pulls my hand and body towards him as Jack contently remains in his arms
He spins me and looks at my hand saying “I guess it might be time for a new ring, this things smaller than I remember.”
“Funny I said the same thing the last time I slept with you.”
Scott’s mouth drops open and Chris looks to me shocked. He laughs and says “There’s the Jules I know and love. No need for lies though.”
I kiss him with a smile and say “And now we have a parents night out tonight. Scott says we get the whole night.”
Scott goes to interrupt but Chris says “Oh yeah?”
Jack giggles and presses his hand over Chris’s eye
I shake my head and Scott says “Overnight? That’s a lot to ask you know."
My smile widens and I say "But that's not a no." Scott says "You're so lucky I don't have a life or a boyfriend."
I hug Scott saying "You're the best."
"Mmhm. Enjoy that stupid award show. Is it even airing on tv?"
Chris rolls his eyes saying "I just love having a supportive brother like you, Scott." He pushes Scott's shoulder as he walks away and we enjoy our night. Just the two of us.
Present day:
I stir awake as my smile drops as I realize where I really am. I look to my right seeing Pete asleep beside me
It was just an old memory.
But it was one of the happiest times in my life
I reach for my phone, knowing who I need right now more than anything
“Hello?”
I heave a sigh of relief as I exit the front door “mom… I’m so glad you actually answered my call.”
“What happened?”
I sigh saying “I can’t sleep and I’ve been thinking about Jack so much lately. And I’ve just been so busy after my car accident and Cora just took over wedding planning. I wasn’t planning on getting married anytime soon but she just…”
“Took over. She’s a control freak. It runs in the family. She can’t help it, I’m sorry honey.”
I sigh saying “I wish you were here. I miss you.”
She sighs saying “I’m getting in the car now. Your father is asleep. But I will drive an hour and a half to get to you.”
“What do you mean an hour and a half? Where are you right now?”
She pauses saying “Your father and I wanted to surprise you and come see you early. We thought you might need your parents at a time like this.”
“You really didn’t have to… but I miss you so much. Please get here faster. I just want my mom more than anything right now.”
I hear the sound of the engine and she says “Tell me what happened, did Chris reach out?”
I shake my head as I step out of the house and into the small square of backyard saying “No. Nothing happened, Pete is great, he’s perfectly fine. And Chris hasn’t reached out. I haven’t heard from him in a long time.”
My mom purses her lips saying as she’s driving “and you want him to call?”
“I don’t know… he’s like my best friend, he and I go way back. Before we even were romantically involved we were best friends. I think I miss him.”
“Second thoughts about the wedding, y/n?”
I pause and stare at the street signs as I say “More like 6th and 7th thoughts.”
“Wedding jitters?”
I scoff saying “I am so sick of hearing that.”
“It’s a real thing. Claire had them, and your sister had them.”
I sigh saying “You didn’t have them when you married dad.”
“Well, I’m generally not a very nervous person, sweetie.”
I nod saying “Sure thing mom. That’d be nice right about now, I feel like I’m going to barf every time I see Pete.”
There’s a pause then she says “What would you say to me being outside your house right about now?”
I smile saying “I think I could cry. You have no idea how much I’ve missed you guys.”
“It’s not like you completely cut us out of your life for five plus years.”
I see my parents motor home pull up in front of our house and my mom vacates the drivers seat and quickly approaches me
My arms wrap around her quickly as I immediately feel comfort
Nothing more comforting then being with your mother
I get into the motor home quickly after and I ask “Where’s dad?”
Only to be interrupted by the sound of his snoring. I smile as my mom says “Where’s Pete?”
“Inside. Momma, I need out. I need out of it all.”
Her eyes widen as she says “Let’s get a drink first. Okay?”
I nod and I say “How do I get out of a wedding? I’m being serious.”
She shakes her head saying “For the love of god… relax. My darling daughter, these are nerves.”
Twisting the ring on my finger I say “It doesn’t feel right. This doesn’t feel right. At all.”
She looks to me as she drives saying “The ring?”
“Yeah..and everything…”
“I suppose Chris has your old ring back by now?”
I purse my lips, shrugging and saying “Yeah. He asked for it back. I left it with Scott before I left Boston. That ring was so-”
She cuts in “delicate and small.”
I smile saying “Beautiful.”
She shakes her head saying “I’m sorry Juliana but you’re lying to yourself if you don’t admit that you still love Chris. Pete isn’t the one you want, honey. It sounds like you know what you want to do.”
“He doesn’t want me. He left. He divorced me if you don’t remember, mother.”
My mom laughs and shakes his head saying “You two are the most stubborn people to exist.”
I smile saying “Yeah. And I like it that way. He wouldn’t be my Chris if he wasn’t.”
“Where is he today, do you think?”
“On set, probably filming some movie. Gifted wrapped. But I don’t know. He’s not home. I know that. He never answered the wedding invite Cora sent him.”
Her eyes widen as she says “You invited him to your wedding? What are you trying to accomplish by doing that? He is your ex husband.”
I scoff saying “I didn’t do it. Cora took over. I blame her control freak tendencies. And the fact that she rushed to get married so fast that she didn’t get the wedding she wanted and now she’s taking over mine. She’s living her wedding fantasy through me. I don’t even like Jordan almonds.”
“Those aren’t bad. Your dad loves them.”
“3,000 Jordan almonds is too many. It’s 3,000 too many. And then the cake. She wasn’t happy with my decision of white cake and red velvet for the cake flavors. Now we have lavender-rosemary vanilla bean cake, because it’s elegant. And all she says is that I’m a grown woman. That I should act like it…”
My mom shakes her head saying “You can’t be dismissive with Cora, if you give her an inch she takes a mile. It’s a good asset to have in a career but any other scenario it makes her come off as a control freak.”
I sigh saying “Yeah. And dress shopping was just me getting walked all over with like a pushover, the whole dress shopping. Claire, Cora and Pete’s moms opinion, not mine. I wanted you there, so badly. Cora knew you would side with me. She took that experience away from you. I needed you there. It was like I was just going through the motions. I was a Barbie doll to dress up in that moment. I feel robotic by now.”
My mom tears up saying “I know, sometimes I swear she treats me like her child too. I’m here now and I’m not leaving your side. If you want out, I’m in.”
I shake my head saying “They spent so much money, i have to go through with this mom. Pete- he is a good guy. And he loves me.”
“You don’t love him like Chris, you too have way too much of a past to just call it a quits now.”
My mom sits in the grocery store parking lot as she squeezes my hands tightly as she loses a few tears as she looks to me
“This isn’t going how it should go, a mother is supposed to be involved in the wedding, and you aren’t even. Juliana if this isn’t what you want your father and I will handle this. Moral obligation isn’t a reason to get married. Is there anything you love about Pete that’s marriage worthy?”
I sigh saying “He’s sweet. And he’s a good cook.”
“That’s two great things.”
“And he always brings me coffee in the morning. And he always laughs at dads stupid jokes and puts up with his stupid football commentary.”
She nods and says “And those reasons don’t hold up against Chris do they?”
I sigh saying “Chris is all I know, alright? We started dating when we were young. I was a wife before I even had a career.”
She shrugs saying “And he is different now, right? He isn’t Chris Evans, our neighbor, anymore. Is he?”
I nod and say “Yeah. He’s a big movie star now.”
I smile and he says “I’ve met bigger.” I purse my lips saying “You’re coming to my rehearsal dinner right?”
She nods saying “Wouldn’t miss it for the world. I’m not leaving your side again, until I have to. I still remember your last rehearsal dinner, Jack smeared cake all over himself and ruined the cake.”
I smile saying “I remember. It was adorable. Messy, but adorable. He always made huge messes and Cora used have to do breathing exercises to not freak out.”
We both laugh and she says “I’ve gotta say, I am lacking in the amount of normal children. Jamie is all I’ve got.”
I scoff saying “Jamie is not normal. He eats food in the shower. And he paints his toenails with a clear coat weekly, every Sunday night.”
We both laugh loudly and she says “he is a weirdo. Where’d I go wrong?”
I shake my head saying “At least he’s happy, and I guess Cora is too.”
I smile to her, already feeling better “I really needed this today. Thank you for coming early for me mom.”
“Of course. Like I’d let you do this alone.”
My mom smiles through her tears as my eyes well up. She hugs me tightly and my dad grumbles as he shifts in his sleep
We both laugh as he remains unaffected. As she parks in front of the house she says “We’ll be right here, waiting. I can wake up your father if you need him too.”
I smile to her as I look to the house, “I’ll see you in the morning. Thank you for being here.”
I enter the house, looking for Pete. I see him in the kitchen cooking and listening to music
I smile lightly as I drop my bag and he peers over into the hallway
I walk forward as he says “Ah, you’re home. I just started the chicken picatta.”
I extend my hands to him as he approaches, he kisses my cheek and says “You feeling alright? You look a bit queasy?”
Nodding I say “Of course I’m alright. It smells great.” He nods and says “I talked to my mom, and I want to apologize actually.”
I look to him confused and he holds my face in his hands saying “I just need you. We can grow old together and travel the world and just enjoy each other’s company. No sticky and crying babies. We can be the cool aunt and uncle of the family. Give the kids back after a weekend.”
He gives me a giddy smile and I nod as I feel tears produce “You’ve wanted kids for years, Pete...”
“I’ve wanted you, and a life with you for just as long. I just need you.”
My throat tightens and I say “I need to tell you something actually.. I- remember my trip to Atlanta? Right after we got engaged?”
He nods saying “Yeah?”
I pause as I feel my face run hot, I slide his hands off my face. Squeezing his hands tightly saying “I went there to-”
The smoke alarm goes off and he quickly breaks away from me, jogging into the kitchen
He shouts “The fan in here is defective! I’m telling you as soon as we move I am personalizing the hell out of our house!”
I run my hands down my face shaking my head as I say “Pete?”
“And a huge fridge. We’re still on to look at houses with my parents Friday right? Mom says we’d love to grow old together in New Jersey. We’d be close to my family.”
“My family lives in Boston, Pete.” I say as my energy drains from me quickly, all that momentum to tell him everything quickly dwindling away
“I was thinking about that and we can get a place by the water there and split our time there.” He smiles widely
My stomach churns as I stare at him batting the smoke alarm with a kitchen towel “You’ve really thought this through.”
“It’s only our entire future, honey. Have you ever had Boston cream pie? I know that’s such a stereotype but I think we should get your parents to bring some with them for our wedding. Are they any good?”
I sigh saying “My mom’s made them before. They’re my grandma’s specialty. She’s an original Boston grandmother.”
He laughs saying “What other specialties does Boston have?”
I enter the kitchen as he rambles and cooks and just looking at this sweet man I feel guilt
He says “Clam chowder right? I feel like we need more aspects of Boston in our wedding. I know it’s last minute but..”
I shake my head saying “Baked beans are a huge thing. I don’t know. My grandparents love Boston baked beans. They’re creatures of habit. But we’re in California… don’t worry about them okay?”
“I want to make a good impression. And I-”
“My other half of my family lives here. Don’t change for them okay?”
He nods and says “My Italian roots are showing, I’m sorry. I’m being bridezilla and I’m not even the bride. You only get married once you know?”
“I’ve been married before.” I blurt out, completely unexpectedly
He drops the spoon from his hand, confused. He says “What?”
I stare at him, with my mouth open, trying to produce words but nothing comes to me
“You were married??”
I shake my head saying “I was 18… I was immature and young… I’m sorry. I should have told you, it was years ago.”
“You were married before and you never told me?”
I nod saying “I’m sorry. I should have, but I just- I never got to it. I was a different person. I am a different person.”
He turns the stove off, grabbing his beer and heading for the back porch saying “I need a minute.”
“Pete. I’m sorry.”
He shakes his head and exits the house. He paces outside as I turn the stove off. Sitting in a chair muttering “shit..” I run my hand down my face
Back in Atlanta:
Chris sits at lunch with Jenny as they celebrate wrapping up Gifted with the cast
She sits on his lap as the cast gives speeches and praise
He has his mind on two things right now, the fact that his mom just told him about his ex wife’s wedding that’s happening in a week and filming for the new avengers movie, infinity war
Both weighing stressfully on him
“Chris I want you to meet our marketing manager for the movie, Jules.”
Chris looks up quickly at the name and extends his hand to the woman. Jenny picks up on the look as she crosses her arms
“We wanted to go over your time schedule for pr interviews. We need you to promote your ass off. Pardon my language.”
His eyes widen as he says “I see.”
“Don’t be intimidated these won’t be as bad as marvel interviews. These will be over with in a matter of two weeks. I just need you to… I’m sorry… be at my Beck and call for that.”
“Whatever you say goes, Julia.” He nods to her
She corrects him as she pats his shoulder in annoyance “it’s Jules. And thank you for your cooperation. I’ll be in touch.”
“She does understand I have another project and a life right?”
“You heard the lady, she’s gonna hold your work schedule in her hands for a bit.” His manager fills in
Chris sighs saying “And what about that day off I told you I needed?”
“I’m sorry. It’s premiere day in the east coast for gifted. I can’t let you bail on the premiere.”
“I specifically told you I needed out of work that day. I asked for one day. Is that too much to ask for Mark??”
Mark tilts his head saying “Yes. It is, you have a contract, and you have to go to this premiere.”
“And if I don’t?” Chris challenges
“Then you lose your right to the profits of the east coast, don’t be stupid. They wrote specific rules in the agreement and I warned you ahead of time. You told me you had nothing but time.”
“That was before, and you know that.”
Mark sighs as he says “is this about that woman, the girl that you’ve been hung up on for awhile?”
Chris’s eyes narrow to Mark as he says “Excuse me?”
Jenny steps forward with the man she was speaking with and interrupts Mark as she says “Chris, this is Cameron. He knows y/n dylan, he worked on an organization with her.”
Chris tenses as Cameron shakes Chris’s hand saying “I only heard through the grapevine you were friends with her. She’s great, you know her?”
Chris shakes his head saying “No.. I don’t think we know the same one. Trust me when I say Jules Dylan is a completely different person. I’ve heard of her though.”
“What a coincidence, that’s crazy. y/n dylan was such a people person we loved her.”
Jenny says “It looks like they’re tearing down this place, I’m going to catch up with my manager. Cameron said that the buses just ended their schedule. Chris would you mind taking him home?”
Chris looks to Jenny as she smiles lightly and he nods saying “Of course. Cameron I’ve got you covered.”
They quickly found themselves in the car ride home. Awkward silence took over the conversation as even the radio couldn’t fix the problem
“What was your Jules like?”
Chris tenses as his hands squeeze the steering wheel.
Your Jules..
He shrugs saying “She was a thorn in anyones side for awhile. Especially the sherif in town, she egged their station so many times… with me in tow, that’s a given, and she accidentally torched the lawn at our school in a poorly executed senior prank. The station was just down the road from our high school. We nearly got caught.”
“Sounds like she was great.”
“Oh she was, she was one of my best friends.”
“What happened to her? Where is she now?”
Chris stares at the road saying “oh you know, she got married too young to some asshole, got pregnant. It was a failed high school relationship. Those never end well.”
Cameron nods saying “Sounds very different from y/n dylan.”
Chris rolls his eyes as he looks to the side mirror
“You aren’t curious where your Jules went? How she ended up?”
“No, it’s all meant to be this way. Friends from high school aren’t meant to last. Maybe one day I’ll reach out, doubt she’d like to hear from me.”

Run away with me
warnings: none
word count: 1,975
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Filming for our upcoming movies and shows have been hectic.
Our home is more of a stop over than a home at this moment
And it doesn’t help having my sister and Chris’s brother staying in our house with us. Ever since the pandemic happened they’ve lived with us.
With the pandemic finally winding down we’ve been dropping hints for them to leave
Malia says it’s annoyingly obvious, but I tell her that’s the point. Chris can’t kick anyone out, he’s too nice.
So I’ve been holding back on telling Malia and Scott to give us some space
I can’t remember the last time we just had the house to ourselves.
And I long for it.
Scott was out on an audition while Malia was at a cafe working on her schoolwork for her masters degree
It was just me and the house, silence never felt so good.
My phone chimes and I look to the message from Scott, telling everyone in our group chat that he’s going for drinks tonight
Malia texts back asking where the fuck her invitation is
I shake my head as I sigh
Scott types back an invite and she tells everyone she’s in
Do you know what that means?
I get my moment of peace.
I get a moment with my fiancé
Chris sighs loudly as he enters the house
He says “Honey?”
“In the family room!”
“We have our house to ourselves and you’re watching tv?”
He enters the living room, dropping his bag when he sees me
The corners of his wide smile turn upwards as he stifles a laugh “dressed like that. boy I like our alone time.”
He jumps the couch, landing on me as I move out of impact
He curls his fingers into the straps of the lingerie saying “God where have you been hiding this at?”
I smile as I say “I’ve had it since we got engaged, and you were wondering why I was so pushy with the siblings to get out.”
“First thing tomorrow I’ll send them away.” He says in a muffled tone with his lips pressed against my shoulder blades
A shaky sigh escapes my lips as I say “God I love you.”
As soon as he begins to remove pieces of the top I hear something
Our door opens and slams
Malia says “You embarrassed me in front of your friends!”
“You were flirting with all my gay friends!”
Chris says “shit!”
He covers me as he falls on me, looking for something to cover me with he sees the blanket on the chair… across the living room
He leans to leave but I pull him back over me, in an effort to hide me
Malia shouts “Y/N!! Tell me you made dinner! I’m starv-ING! OH MY GOD.”
She screams in horror as Chris releases an irritated sigh as he glares at her
Scott says “What- oh my god! You are disgusting!”
Chris shakes his head saying “Get out.”
Malia and Scott laugh loudly as Chris covers my exposed self. Malia says “You two have a bedroom, you know that right.”
I sit up, with Chris holding his hands over my exposed body, his eyes widening as I grow angrier and more conflict driven
“We paid for this house, in all cash, out of our own pockets. I bought this couch, I’ve bought everything in this damn room! I have the fucking right to do whatever I please with my significant other wherever I please.”
Scott says “We eat popcorn and watch movies there. That’s- so disgusting.”
I hurl the remote towards their heads screaming “get out!”
It smashes into the wall and they both look to me shocked. Malia says “God, what crawled up your ass tonight.”
Scott says “That’s no way to treat your guests-”
I reach for anything I can find on the coffee table to throw, but Chris pulls the items out of my hands, finally he hands me a pillow
In all my effort I hit Scott’s head as he steps back
“Get out!” I scream in annoyance
Malia says “Off to our rooms we go-”
“No move out!” I scream as I press the pillow to my chest in an effort of coverance
Chris defends them saying “Honey don’t be rash alright? They just need a place…”
I scoff saying “Apparently you want to sleep on this couch tonight.”
I stand up, grabbing the blanket, wrapping it around me and roughly hitting Chris with it
I saunter past my sister and Scott, I glare at them saying “Stay… be our guests! And ruin my sex life, assholes.”
I huff in annoyance as I stomp up the stairs, knowing I’m overreacting but it’s just a constant annoyance them being here
I snapped.
Chris stares at the two of them. Malia says “Well she’s in a bad mood.”
“Shut up. I’m not in the mood to hear you complain about your sister.” Chris says in annoyance
Scott says “We didn’t mean to start problems between you two.”
“Fuck off. You two can fight over a room, I’m getting a guest room. Sleep on the couch. And be considerate of our house and our relationship.”
“We have been. You don’t think we’ve been extremely accepting of the two of you? You practically drool over breakfast every morning while you two remain nearly naked cooking our food.”
“Which is gross, and unsanitary.” Malia fills in
Scott says “And your late night quickies, we can hear those. It’s like I need to cut my ears off.”
Chris shakes his head saying “God.. she’s right, you’ve put this massive strain on my relationship. It’s like you’re trying to make us fail!”
Scott gasps with Malia, they both say in a surprised tone “We would never!”
Chris says “if you ruin my relationship with her I will never forgive either of you. You already have me sleeping in different beds, arguing with her, and not talking now. So thank you… for ruining something that took years to get.”
Chris storms upstairs in a big hurry and annoyance
He knocks on our master bedroom door, knowing it’s a long shot to get a response from me
I’m already sitting in a hot bath ignoring the three annoyances in my life at the moment
He sighs saying “Can we just talk please? Honey?”
He doesn’t receive an answer and he finds his way to Scott’s guest bedroom. He falls onto the bed, punching the pillows and muttering to himself
“Fucking bullshit..”
He repeatedly punches the pillows as he says “And this bed sucks.”
That was about it for the night, other than me sprawling across our king mattress all on my own
But I couldn’t sleep. Half way through the night I got this ridiculous urge
And I followed through with it
I left my room, and went down the stairs to find Chris
Only to find Scott asleep on the couch, and a massive mess of food in the kitchen
And a sink full of dishes, which ultimately almost sets me off again
But I close my eyes and focus on my plans.
I walk back up the stairs and push open Scott’s door
Chris grumbles saying “Fuck off Scott. This is my house, take the couch.”
I step further into the room, climbing the bed saying “Chris.”
He looks to me quickly, the anger dissolving quickly
“I thought you were mad at me.”
“I was mad about the situation. Not you.”
My hands press to his face as I sit on his chest “Let’s leave.”
“What?” He asks confused in a sleepy tone
“Let’s run away, together, come on.”
“What are you talking about?”
He sits up, and I slide down to his legs. He holds tightly to me saying “I’m sorry, what?”
“Run away with me. Let’s leave and go get married. Buy a house somewhere spontaneously and just be off on our own, married, and happy.”
His eyes widen as he says “But our families…”
I nod saying “Yes, our families, they can wonder where we left to for a few days. Come on, be spontaneous with me. Don’t you want to marry me?”
“I do… I do, y/n… I just, I thought you wanted the big happy wedding with your dad walking you down the aisle and all the family being together.”
“We can do that later. I want to get married now, May 30th is a great day for an anniversary.”
He smiles and says “Fine, I’m in. Let’s get married.”
He dives in to kiss me and I loop my arms around the back of his neck
We’re getting married

hi everyone….
sorry I went dark on you all, it’s been awhile, I know, I’m so sorry! It’s been crazy to say the least for awhile.
I want to continue my stories, I’ve been struggling to post on all platforms especially tumblr and I want to make revisions to the stories first, especially past mistakes! I hope you all won’t mind that, but I feel that it’s needed for me to continue the story. I don’t like the choices I made originally for a part or two and I just want to adjust it
I have another story in mind for once it finishes, I actually have two. I’ll put a poll out or a post and ask which everyone would prefer when the time comes
Looking at the stories most have at least 4-5 more parts left which sounds amazing
I have the next couple parts for past mistakes written and I’ll work on editing and deleting parts from previous parts!
Just wanted to update everyone!

An update for everyone:
Tumblr media
I’ve been inactive for awhile. I apologize, I have been struggling with my mental health and a lot of family problems.
I feel guilty for not posting on this account, I check it every day and I feel this sinking feeling of disappointment and guilt for not providing updates as usual as I used to. I haven’t been in a good mindset and my writing feels forced and it’s not my best work
As of now, I need to decide what will be discontinued and what will continue on once I gain some time and confidence back
Please by all means voice your opinion on which stories to keep!
Right now I have these stories on the possible discontinue list:
-Past mistakes (sadly)
- After all
- Tony’s widow
- Motherly intuition
- (the last part to the) sexiest man alive’s Photographer wife
My reasoning for the possible discontinuing of most of my stories:
Past mistakes.. is my favorite writing of mine on here. It’s a story I really liked and enjoyed posting
After my last update, I didn’t like where I took the story and ultimately don’t like the story as much as I should.
95% of me wants to scrap the last chapter and fix it. The other 5% wants to abandon the story completely. It doesn’t do as well as it used to, and my joy for it isn’t the same. I have other books in drafts that I personally like more
Tony’s widow.. hm, I really liked where I was going with this one. But, the plot of she-hulk didn’t fit it the best. Don’t know if I’ll continue it. But I like the character I created but don’t know if she should end up with Tony or Bruce
After all… two parts are out. It’s a cute story, might make it into a short story. Not a long one, need to edit some of the published parts if I continue it
Motherly intuition… I LOVE this story, but it’s been so long since ds:mom came out I feel like it’s gonna flop lol. I’m 85% sure I’ll post one or two more parts to wrap up the little story
Sexiest man alive’s photographer wife.. was just a blurb I wanted to put out there and it did really well surprisingly. Had another sort of story in my drafts from the puppy interview and made a small adaption to make this story. I feel like I covered the story for the most part, idk if I really need another part, if you guys think so I can make a short and sweet ending part!
Stories that will indefinitely not continue:
Protecting the ones you love

Sexiest man alive’s photographer wife pt. 3!
Warnings: none
Word count: 2,176
check out part 2
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Squirming out from under Chris I leave the room as he takes up the entire bed
Dodger follows and I let him out while I turn the heater on in this unnecessarily cold house
While he sleeps off the alcohol I work and respond to emails
The top priority one being the People magazine one. I’ve photographed for better magazines but I think I’d enjoy this one
Who wouldn’t want to photograph the sexiest man alive?
Hell, I would enjoy it
Don’t tell Chris I said that
She calls me as I stare at the coffee pot slowly brewing coffee
“Hi”
“Hi! We wanted to solidify some plans, I have received the final decision and we have plans set in place with the winner.”
“Can I know yet?”
She pauses saying “I’m sorry. We can’t discuss it yet.”
I sigh saying “Figures. Alright, I’m back in Boston. I can do a meeting and some prep work if you’d like at the location. Have you decided where?”
“No… we were actually hoping that you had some suggestions outside of the studio.”
Nodding and drinking the hot coffee, only to spit it back out as it burns my mouth I say “I have a place in mind, but you may need to adjust your wardrobe for the shoot. My friend, is a rancher and owns a beautiful property. I can send you his info but for it to be private you’re gonna need to rent it out.”
“That can be arranged. Thank you!”
“And when do I get to meet the winner?”
“We will have a preliminary shoot a day before. When are you free? He only has one conflict with the dates you’ve provided but all the rest work. He’s pretty flexible with the schedule.”
Smiling I say unknowingly “Sounds like my kind of person.”
We both laugh and she says “Oh for sure.”
Dodger lays on my feet and I say “Let’s shoot for Wednesday. That’ll give me enough time-”
“It’s supposed to rain on Wednesday.”
I groan saying “Okay… Tuesday? Sorry I haven’t checked the weather.”
“Rain, again.”
“Monday?”
“Tomorrow? You think you could do it that early?”
“And the preliminary shoot would be…today?”
She pauses saying “Wait.. it’s Saturday? Sorry. It was a long night.”
She laughs and says “Tomorrow would be the preliminary shoot and interview and Monday would be the shoot. Do you think you could do it?”
“Yeah. I’ll move some things around.”
“Perfect. Thank you.”
I wrap up the call, petting Dodger as Chris begins to wake up. At 11, and he looks around our bedroom confused
“Did I really dream she was here?”
I drop a pan on accident, cursing as Dodger barks at me. I shush him and attempt to quietly put it away
Chris stands up and groans but smiles as he enters the room, I poorly attempt to clean up as his arms snake around me
“Honey, you’re home.”
I smile and he kisses my shoulder as I say “Only took a flight from hell to get here.”
“Well I’m thankful you’re home.”
I kiss him and he holds me tightly. I pause saying “You were drunk last night.”
“Yeah, Scott had friends from high school to meet up with and I joined. I had a bit too much to drink. I need coffee. Tons of coffee..”
He looks to the nearly empty pot as I try to slip out of his grasp. He holds me tightly as he shakes the empty pot saying “Seriously?”
I laugh as he throws me over his shoulder and says “Where did you hide it!”
“I’m sorry! You’re the one who forgot to go grocery shopping!”
He tosses me onto the couch shaking me saying “I need it!” In full actor dramatics he puts on a desperate act
He shakes his head saying “We had half a bag left.. and you consumed it all. At this point I could just..”
He pretends to fall asleep on top of me and I laugh loudly as I say “it only made like 4 cups!”
“4 cups! Only 4 cups! What are you a caffeine addict? My wife everyone… the coffee hog. Who clearly loves coffee more than her husband.”
Laughing loudly he kisses my neck saying “Tell me where you hid it.”
I go into a fit of laughs as his scruff tickles my neck and he shakes his head as he smiles to me “You’re laughing won’t help you out of this. No matter how much I love you.”
I smile widely and hold his face in my hands saying “I’ll drive you to the store. And buy you some coffee.”
“Just when I thought I could never forgive you.”
Smiling he kisses me and pulls me up to my feet
He makes a bee line for the coffee pot, dumping the half a cup of coffee into a cup
He gives me a look and I smile “Sorry.”
He says “I should’ve gone shopping. I was just too busy trying to get through to my wife via telephone. But clearly she doesn’t have a working one anymore.”
I shake my head saying “I’m telling you, flight from hell..”
He shakes his head and follows me out the door. I look to him as he gets into the passenger seat, still with his morning hair and sleepy eyes
“You look very cute.”
He looks to me and says “Handsome.”
I shake my head saying “Sure.”
I squeeze his hand as we make our way to the store, getting our coffee and going about our day
He doesn’t mention the Sexiest man alive news
And I don’t get around to it
It slips our mind as we leave work out of our day off
Just enjoying the time right now
The next day, I wake up early. Too early.
I slip the top sheet off our bed as I cover myself up with something as I slide the comforter over Chris,
kissing his lips and walking to the kitchen
“Were you really not going to call your brother in law and tell him you were home?”
I jump as I look to the door and grumble saying “Scott. Don’t scare me like that. You knew I was home already, when you dropped off my drunk husband.”
“I didn’t think you remembered that.”
Nodding I say “I do. Why are you here? We are so busy I am actually wasting time having this conversation with you.”
“Rude. I’m here to take Dodger to my sisters. Chris wasn’t anticipating you being back yet so maybe that changed. Are you naked?”
I grumble, tightening the sheet around me saying “I’m in my own home. That I own with my husband. I’m allowed to be naked. I have a sheet over me and I wasn’t anticipating you being here right now.”
He makes a face saying “What are you up to today? Chris says he has meetings.”
“Meetings. Editing. Boring contracts I’m sure. And some NDA’s most likely.”
“Fun..” he says unconvincingly
Nodding I say “I’m going to consume the remainder of the coffee left in this pot, would you mind making another while I shower and quickly leave? I need to get across Massachusetts to the site early.”
He nods and I quickly consume all the coffee and get into the shower. Changed, and out the door after a swift kiss to the top of Chris’s head
Arriving at the set I hug my friend, that owns the ranch, Aaron
“What a pay day for me. Thank you.”
I nod and say “It’s the perfect place for what I have in mind.”
He nods and hesitates but asks “So… do you know who it is yet?”
I laugh and say “No. I don’t, not yet. But soon, he’ll be here soon enough. I should go set up.”
He nods and I retreat back to my set up. Lily, my assistant that I have missed dearly that works with me in America most of the times says “I’ve missed you.”
I hug her saying “Never leave my side again. The assistants they gave me in London were so mean. I can’t believe I ever did this without you.”
She laughs and says “What camera were you thinking?”
“I want all the lenses out, but let’s stick with the newest model canon sent me. That’ll produce some good shots.”
Chris arrives and says to the assistant helping him “How did you manage to get this place?”
“Oh, they rented the whole ranch. It’s beautiful, right?”
He nods saying “My friend actually-”
He’s directed into a makeup chair and the hair dresser says to the makeup dresser “Make sure you make the makeup wind proof.”
“Same to you for his hair.”
“There’s actually not much wind here right now.” Chris admits
They both look to him and say “Your hair is darker than usual.”
“Yeah, it’s for a role.”
“Are you keeping it this way?”
He looks to them confused saying “Maybe? I’m not sure yet. My wife usually cuts my hair and dyes it-”
“Your wife is darling. That interview she did is one of my favorites.”
He nods saying “She’s amazing. I know.”
“Is she really thinking about making a cooking book?”
“No. She’s a photographer not a chef. But maybe some day. She only cooks as a hobby. She is in high demand for work lately so she doesn’t have much time for it.”
“I heard she’s actually back in the states, that’s what our assistant manager told us.”
I’m quickly surrounded by people as everyone needs to ask me a question, Chris looks over saying “Who is that?”
The makeup artist Ava says “That’s the photographer. She is amazing. I worked with her on a project a couple years ago and she produced stunning shots.”
He says “Oh really?”
“Beyond amazing. She photographed Harry Styles for Vanity Fair. Oh my god, talk about talent.”
He looks to her quickly, remembering his wife photographed him for Vanity fair and stands up from the seat
“We aren’t done…”
I look to Lily as she helps me answer questions “The winner is here, the model.”
I look around as it begins to filter out and the photo shoot set director points towards Chris
I smile as I look up and Chris quickly produces an even bigger smile as I push my camera into Lily’s arms
Chris quickly does a fast walk, near jog towards me as I step forward.
His arms are wrapped around my hips as he hugs me tightly, lifting me slightly as we both laugh loudly
He kisses my cheek “Chris.” I say as I kiss his cheek in return
I hug him tightly as he says “Well, now look at you. My darling photographer wife.”
“What are you doing here?” I laugh out as I struggle to say as he kisses my neck and his scruff sends me into a fit of laughs
Lily clears her throat, holding up a paper just handed to her saying
Talent: Chris Evans
I smile to him, hugging him tightly saying “Congratulations. I’ve known for many years that you’re the sexiest man alive but I guess the world has finally caught up with me.”
He says “I was going to tell you, but we were enjoying our time just the two of us. We needed that and-”
I kiss him and the staff freeze in place confused at what’s going on
Professionally I go by my maiden name…
But it’s kind of public knowledge I’m married to him, honestly, I go by both.
I respond to both.
Lily smiles widely as she crosses her arms waiting, Lily loves Chris. She’s been over for dinner and parties a good amount of times
We are on quote her “Auntie and Uncle.” Chris eats it up, Lily is sweet and knows us pretty well
She puts up with my artistic fits I have occasionally… more often then not
He kisses me as he says “You’re making me blush already. And here I thought I was going to get some uptight photographer that makes me pose uncomfortably for hours.”
I smile as my feet finally touch the ground once again. “Now, that’s not a given. As your wife I get away with more now. You know that.”
He shakes his head saying “You have no idea how happy I am to have you here.”
My smile beams as I scrunch my nose saying “People are looking.”
He chuckles saying “You’re punny without even trying.” I shake my head as he says “All nerves, gone. Just seeing your goofy face.”
“Beautiful is the word you’re really looking for, my dear.”
He nods and says “This is going to be the best shoot we’ve ever had, guaranteed.”
I shake my head and look to Lily saying “Give me the ole’ reliable please.”
Chris gasps saying “Ole’ Betsy?”
“Get me ole’ betsy, lils.”
Lily sifts through my many bags of equipment
Chris smiles and says “Yep. It’s going to be a good day.”

“No, Mom… I-”
“You didn’t even tell me when you left for London. You do know that a mother worries, right? I had to read a text message from your ridiculously annoying cousin that you’re living it up in Paris and the tabloids say you’re driven and busy!”
I groan saying “I was waiting on a call from Chris by the way, but clearly, I won’t be getting to call my husband today because you feel the need to yell at me. I left in a hurry. I was only meant to be here for a weekend or a week.”
“You’ve been gone for a month. And I never got to say goodbye. How is that fair? I’m sure Chris got to say goodbye.”
I sigh as I rub the bridge of my nose, trying to suppress the headache she’s giving me. “He’s my husband. Yes. He got a goodbye. He drove me to the airport.”
She scoffs saying “I could have come with you. Mommy and me vacation!”
I groan and she laughs “You should have told me.”
“Lesson learned. I’m already heading home.”
“I’ll pick you up from the airport. When do you land?”
Chris steps on set after a lengthy phone call with a representative from people talking about his nomination for sexiest man alive, and what it entails
He asks the assistant that’s stationed in his trailer “Were you able to get through to my wife?”
“No. Directly to voicemail. I believe she’s on another call or swamped in work. Should I call her work?”
“No. I’ll talk to her tonight. Thanks for trying. Keep me updated if she calls back alright?”
“Will do. They’re ready for you in hair and makeup.”
My mom says “Make sure you tell me once you’re on the plane so I can get my crystals out and tell your grandmother to pray.”
“This is exactly why I don’t tell you when I’m traveling. You stress me out when you’re like this.”
“I’m the one that’s weird? You’re weird for not trusting me to protect you, are you boarding soon. I need to get them ready if so.”
I look up at the delayed writing that’s newly showing beside my Boston flight log. My eyes widen as I stand up annoyed saying to the flight attendant “Excuse me. What does this mean, delayed?”
I hang up on my mom quickly as I drop my phone into my bag, not noticing that it’s nearly dead due to the 2 hour conversation I had to endure with my mother
“It’s delayed. A few hours or so, apparently.”
“Why?”
“Undisclosed description.”
I narrow my eyes at him saying “Do you have any other flights to Boston that I could board now? I am a high miles member.”
He looks down to the computer saying “Hm, let me see.”
“I just really would like to get home to my husband soon.”
He nods saying “That’s very sweet. But, I’m afraid there’s nothing in business plus or first class back to Boston besides the delayed flight you’re on already.”
I grumble saying “I’m fine with coach. What do you have then?”
“I have a flight leaving in 20 minutes, coach, middle seat.”
“Which airline?”
“Spirit airlines.”
I really, really, must love my husband.
“There’s nothing else?”
“No. Sorry miss.”
I sigh as I accept my fate.
I think I’m gonna need my mom to get those crystals out for this flight.
And my grandma praying
Oh Chris, if you only knew the struggle to get home
He says “Alright, you’re money will be refunded back to your account and here’s your new ticket.”
I look down to the new ticket as I say “How long of a delay is this flight again? On a safe airplane?”
“It’s just been delayed another 4 hours, we’re soon recommending that passengers arrange a hotel and come back in the morning.”
I nod and say “Okay…”
Walking away I grab my phone from my bag, calling Chris’ number. Getting static on the other line until ultimately I lose connection and my phone dies
I grumble and look around for an outlet as I walk closer to my assigned gate
Approaching the flight attendants I hand over my ticket and they say “Aren’t you Chris Evans wife? y/n Evans?”
“Yeah. I guess so. That’s what it says on my passport.”
“So cool.”
I grab my ticket as they say “They’re going to close the tunnel soon. You should hurry.”
Of course they are.
I quickly make my way down the tunnel to the plane and enter the cramped flight. Everyone’s packed in here like a tin of sardines. This is ridiculous
I make my way through the sections, definitely having a culture shock. And a humbling moment as I see a woman pull hairs out of her husbands ear as I walk by and they wait for take off
Oh my god… she’s moving on to his nose hairs
I look to my seat in front of me, the kid on the man’s lap glaring at me as they have the window seat
The kid has a runny nose and his toys are sprawled across my seat, the mother, oblivious to my existence as she prematurely started a movie on her child’s iPad that looks like it was dipped in child slobber and the toilet
I clear my throat as the man looks to me and I say “Sorry, I actually booked the seat in between you, would you mind?”
“Oh, go ahead and move those to the pocket in front of you.”
The flight attendant pressures me to sit down as my luggage is grabbed from my hand as she takes it.
She slams it into the bins, garnering a wince and gasp from me as she threw my camera bag and lenses in the bins
I glare at her saying “That’s five thousand dollars worth of camera equipment… why would you rip that from my hand??”
“Sit down and enjoy your view please.”
That please wasn’t very nice..
I sit down as my arms accidentally graze the others beside me
I look for an outlet in the plane seating in front of me, now realizing they don’t have those on this plane. Oh goody… a 10 hour flight in agony without my phone, or music
“Evening everyone, we are now taking off and headed to our beautiful destination of Washington DC.”
I look up abruptly in confusion and I ask the flight attendant that walks by “Excuse me, did he just say Washington DC? I thought this flight was to Boston.”
“This plane isn’t going directly to Boston, silly. We have a few layovers. Three layovers and then we reach Boston. Half the fun is visiting all those places right?”
“I’m sorry… three layovers? Where are these layovers?”
“We’ll be dropping off in Washington D.C., then heading to the great state of New York and then Boston. It’s on our way back to London.”
I grumble saying “I wanted a direct flight. I want to go directly home.. how long will this flight really take?”
“24 hours with sleeping time at our first layover. That’s just to Washington D.C. It says it all on your ticket, Miss.”
She quickly scrambles away as I realize the huge mistake I’ve made. Oh my god.
Chris tried my phone again before he heads out for drinks with some of the other actresses and actors
It goes straight to voicemail and he sighs as he quickly says to my voicemail “Just wanted to see if I could catch you. Sounds like you’re swamped with work there. When you get this, give me a call. Don’t worry about the time difference. I’ll be up.”
He sighs as he looks to the group of people waiting for him to wrap up his call. He abruptly calls me again, hoping I might answer again
It goes to voicemail and he says to my messages “By the way, your mother called me, she’s not happy. She lectured me for awhile and told me she wanted grandchildren. I told her to call you so this is just a heads up if she hasn’t already reached you.”
He closes his phone as he sighs at not getting through to me.
I rest my head back onto the seat, trying to just get through this flight as it feels like agony. And I’m so bored it’s ridiculous
I watch the lady beside me’s movie without audio. Soon realizing it’s Chris’s movie, the Netflix movie
Gray man
I purse my lips as I see him with that mustache and villain ego
Oh how much I miss you..
The woman smiles as she watches an action scene and her husband nudges her asking “What are you watching?”
She looks to him and says “A netflix movie.”
“Who’s in it? Is it any good?”
“Ryan Reynolds and Chris…Pine.” She says doubtfully
When Chris says people confuse him for other Chris’s I didn’t fully believe him
“Actually, that’s Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans.”
The man says “Captain America right?”
“Yeah. That’s him. And the other guy is from the notebook. I’m sure you’ve watched that.”
“Oh.. that’s where I recognize him from.”
The woman says “Have you seen this movie before?”
Nodding I say “A few times actually.”
She says “You look familiar. Where have I seen you before?”
My eyes creep down to the gossip magazine she has on her little table, with a picture of me and Chris.
I look fully unflattering and he looks like he just did a thousand push ups
And the tabloid beside us claims that our relationship is on the rocks and I’m desperately trying to conceive to keep Chris
And the big red letters say… Is this it for the couple? Is it about time?
Good grief. I didn’t know my relationship was that bad! And I didn’t know I was trying to have a baby, maybe I should notify Chris!
I laugh at the thought and motion to the magazine saying “I get that I look like her all the time.”
She looks down to the magazine saying “I don’t really see it.”
I roll my eyes and the woman goes back to her movie, that I watch also
After some more elbow pushing on my arm rests with the people beside me, we land in Washington D.C. and I get up so fast and push my way through all the people to get off the flight with my things
I approach the woman at the flight attendant desk saying “I need to change my flight. Desperately. Please tell me you can help me. I don’t care what I have to pay. Please.”
Her eyes widen and she says “Where are you headed?”
“Boston. Massachusetts. Please…”
She nods saying “It’s a crowded weekend here, it’s Labor Day weekend.”
I nod and she says “The flight you booked isn’t exchangeable.”
“Oh. That’s alright. I need a new ticket then.”
Her eyes widen and she says “Coach again for your next ticket?”
“No. Please no middle seat either.”
She nods saying “I have a flight that leaves in a few hours to Boston. First class, window seat.”
I sigh saying “Which airline?”
“United, miss.”
I nod and book my flight, feeling relieved to have changed the flight
I find a plug in the United lounge and immediately try to get through to Chris “come on. answer…”
It rings in his trailer as he runs lines on camera. His assistant sleeps through the call and I attempt to call again
The assistant jolts awake saying “Shit!”
She dives for the phone, as she scrambles to her feet. Answering the call two seconds too late
I hang up and listen to the voicemails he left me. I call again as the assistant walks across set, trying to locate Chris
The phone rings in her hand and she quickly answers it, putting it to her ear and saying “Hello?”
And the voice on the other line, not being me says “Hi! Uh.. I was looking for my brother.”
For the love of…. Scott?? Really?
I’m sent directly to voicemail as Scott remains in the line
This is getting ridiculous now. I give up. I say into the voicemail “We’re playing phone tag and I hate it. I want to hear your voice. This sucks. I hate the distance, I’m sorry I ever agreed to this stupid job. My mom called. She’s mad. She’s the reason I didn’t get your call I’m sure. Anyway, I’m here… for the time being, waiting on your call.”
Scott says “I wanted to touch base on his schedule, and when his next availability is. I know, it’s pathetic a brother needs to schedule in time to see his brother.”
She says “No. Sorry, Mr. Evans was just hoping for a call from his wife. And I’ve been struggling getting through and they’ve been playing phone tag for the last day and a half.”
“So that’s why he’s so angry and annoying. She keeps him at normal amounts of annoying.”
She laughs and says “Would you like to talk to your brother? I have him here.”
“Yeah. I guess so.”
Chris is handed the phone and he says “Honey?”
“Yes?” Scott says mockingly
Chris sighs saying “Scott.”
“I know. I’m not who you want a call from, but I am going out for drinks with some of the kids we went to high school with, a lot of my drama friends and I wanted to invite you. If you can find any time in that free time you have that you spend wallowing around, missing your wife.”
“I don’t wallow. Shut up. It’s been a month and I miss her. Especially when she can’t seem to pick up the damn phone and answer.”
Scott laughs saying “You’re the same way.”
“Shut up. Fine. I’ll go for drinks with you. But that’s it. I need to be home by midnight for Dodger’s bed time.”
Scott laughs loudly saying “Tell me you’re kidding!”
“No. I’m not.”
Landing while Chris is out with Scott and some old friends I call an Uber and take it home
Chris slowly finishes his last drink and Scott pats his back saying “You alright?”
He nods saying “I got offered sexiest man alive this year.”
Scott’s eyes widen and he says “No way. Does y/n know?”
“No. I haven’t been able to tell her. It’s been radio silence for a bit. Can’t catch her on the phone. The distance is getting to us.”
Scott says “Can you go visit her?”
“No. Not yet. We’re right in the middle of filming and she’s swamped with work.”
I approach the house gate with my keys as I unlock it. I enter the front yard after I shut the gate behind me
Chris looks down to a motion alert from our security cameras and says “Uh oh.”
Scott says “It’s probably that damn cat next door.”
Chris groans saying “I drank too much. I’m so tired.”
“Just stay over then.”
“No.. I need to get home for Dodger.”
Chris lays across Scott’s couch, opening the notification and dropping his phone as he nods off
His phone turns off and people quickly leave soon after. Steve, Scott’s boyfriend says “Should we take him home?”
Scott nods saying “Grab an arm.”
They set him into the back seat as they drive him to the house. I scribble a message on the fridge in dry erase and let my head hit the pillow
I’m exhausted from those ridiculous flights
Scott and Steve enter the house with Chris, leading him to our room. Entering the bedroom as Dodger happily greets all of them
Scott and Steve stop in place as they turn the light on and look to a person under the covers of the bed
Scott hits Chris in the shoulder saying “Are you kidding me?? Did you cheat on y/n?? Mom and I will kill you.”
Chris groans and I stir in my sleep, turning towards them
Scott says “Oh my god.”
Chris says “I sleep in the nudeee I need to get these off.”
He pulls on his jacket but Scott just pushes him onto the bed saying “She’s his problem now. Let’s go.”
He turns the lights off and leaves as Chris moves around an annoying amount, half way waking me up
I reach for Chris and he mumbles “Hi.”
I kiss him saying “Hi.”
I hug him tightly as he squeezes me in a hug “You don’t get to leave me again. I missed you.”
I smile saying “Mmhm. Your breath reeks of tequila.”
He kisses me with a big smile and we quickly drift off to sleep, sprawled over each other

Sexiest man alive’s photographer wife pt.l
Chris Evans is to be named People’s 2022 sexiest man alive, what he and his wife don’t know is that his photographer for the magazine is his very own wife. Who better to give the smoldering sexy look to than his wife?
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
“Yes I am still scrambling around London trying to make it back in time for Miles birthday party. The models I’m dealing with here believe I’m a complete ninny. If only they knew the real stars I’ve photographed. Tell me why I agreed to this shoot again?”
He smiles on the other end of the video chat saying “It was something new. You wanted to broaden your portfolio.”
I grumble saying “Biggest mistake ever. Never let me make another like this okay?”
He chuckles saying “I think you’ve spent too much time in Europe, you’re beginning to speak like them. Ninny? What does that even mean?”
I stifle a laugh saying “Gah.. I’m so sorry. I should be home. With you and Dodger. Not here.”
“Hey, we understand. You’re killing it there and we’re couch potatoes while you’re gone. After shooting I’m exhausted.”
I nod saying “How’s the shooting for the red one going?”
“Good. I love Dwayne. I know I said I didn’t know if he’d be weird but he’s so funny and so nice. You’d love him. You need to meet him soon.”
“I’ll be home soon. And I won’t leave again, for as long as humanly possible.”
He nods saying “Sounds like the best idea you’ve ever had.”
I shake my head saying “You look tired. I am screwing up your sleep routine calling you this late. I hate this stupid time difference.”
He shakes his head saying “I can’t and will not go to sleep until we have our nightly calls. You know that.”
I frown and say “Sometimes I hate my job.”
“But, you love it. You know that.”
I shrug as I feel tears produce, “it’s just so difficult being away from you for so long. I don’t know anyone here. My assistants are French and talk terribly about me to each other. And the models think I’m a servant to them. I miss America. I miss you. I miss home.”
His eyes widen and he says “It’ll be done in no time. We’ll be here, waiting. Just do what you’ve gotta do. I can send Scott over if you’d like. He begs to go to Europe all the time.”
I smile as I wipe my tears saying “If he’s my best bet, yeah. But he’s not my first choice in Evans’ visiting me.”
He nods saying “I know how much you love my mom but I think she’s pretty busy in Boston, even though…”
I laugh through the tears at his efforts to make me feel better, my assistant quickly calls for me as I look to the laptop
“Miss Klava is requesting you to do… your job. No offense.”
I sigh as I look to her saying “Klava was supposed to be on set of the shoot an hour ago. She doesn’t run the show here. Get her in makeup and make her look like she cares to be here. I’ll be there soon enough.”
Quickly she leaves as I groan and Chris mellows as I shake my head saying “They can never not interrupt our alone time, can they?”
He shrugs saying “Big shoot day. I know you need to get out there now.”
I look down to my watch saying “No. No, tell me more about what’s going on with you.”
“I got a call from People magazine actually..”
Klava pushes her way into my room, shouting in a language I don’t understand, pointing towards my laptop and huffing and puffing.
Making a whole tantrum in front of me
I shake my head saying “You should be in hair and makeup! You’re so lucky I don’t find literally any other model to replace you!”
She shakes her head saying “I told you I model best. But you waste time with this! This ridiculous device.”
I look to my laptop screen, seeing Chris’ flushed expression. I glare at Klava saying “You can’t barge into my private office-”
My assistant says “She refuses to go into makeup, she claims she looks perfect as is.”
I sigh saying “Get Rachel, send Klava to Wes while I figure out how yo handle this.”
I look to my laptop saying “I’m sorry, Chris. I will call you later. Alright?”
He nods and says “I love you. Good luck with Klava.”
I smile to him quickly, saying “I love you too. Good luck with shooting.”
“You too.”
The call ends and I spend the rest of the day scrambling around, attempting to position and direct models that are nearly more than a foot taller me in heels to do as I request
I didn’t get around to calling Chris again, but I had enough time to check my email before I ultimately let my head hit my pillow and pass out
A rep from people magazine have reached out, asking for a call to speak about a job offer
I set plans and fall asleep with my phone unplugged and with a low battery
Chris messages me as I sleep, giving me updates throughout his day
Only going through to my dead phone
The sun shines in my face and I abruptly sit up, scrambling to read the time “please don’t be late..”
I look to the clock on the microwave, groaning as I rush out of the room.
Another painful day of dealing with models begins as I plug my phone in, missing my daily call with Chris
Missing the email telling me I would receive a call from People magazine’s Zoe.
Rachel pushes my ringing phone to my ear as it answers “Honey, I know I missed our usual call but-”
“Oh? Sorry, do I have the wrong number?”
I set my camera down, grabbing my phone confused saying “Sorry.. thought you were my husband. My assistant didn’t tell me it was a business call. Who is this?”
“Zoe from People.”
“Oh! Hi, sorry. I’ve been swamped here in London. What can I help you with?”
She cheerily says “As you probably know, People announces the sexiest man alive yearly with a large photo shoot and article. And we need a photographer for this years 2022 sexiest man alive. I’ve been following your work for awhile and wow… you’re work is stunning. My employers and I would like to offer you the job.”
My eyes widen and I say “Who would I be working with? Who won?”
Zoe pauses and says “2022’s sexiest man alive..”
I smile and say “Ah.. so confidential for now. When will the photo shoot take place?”
“Soon, as soon as you have an opening actually.”
Debating taking on more work I say “Who’s in the running for the job besides me?”
Zoe pauses saying “We were hoping it’d be you. We have a few people we’ve used in the past but my boss really enjoyed your photos from the Met gala earlier this year. You took some phenomenal photos.”
I pause and say “I don’t finish this job for another few weeks and I- I need to speak to my husband first before I accept another job.”
“We’d be willing to be flexible with times. And we know the model would be too.”
Looking to the models in front of me I say “Can we shoot in Boston?”
Zoe happily says “Yes, wherever you choose to photograph!”
I nod saying “Alright, I’m in. I just need to reassure my husband. I can just do the editing from this job from home. I’m almost wrapped up here. I will send you some dates that work for me, you pick one and let’s set some solid plans okay?”
“Perfect, I’ll expect your email. Thank you!”
I wrap up the call, dropping my phone and saying “Alright, this is the last day of shooting and none of you will have to hear my harping voice again. Just cooperate with me.”
Sending my unedited shots to my higher ups at the magazine I request finishing the final product in the states
With some convincing it’s approved and I call Chris on my taxi ride to dinner
“Didn’t think you’d get some time away to call me.”
I huff a breath in response saying “Yeah. I didn’t either. From the looks of your texts it sounds like you’re enjoying filming on red one.”
“I’m actually about to go meet someone for breakfast. Would you mind if you just texted me what’s up?”
I pause and mask my voice saying “Yeah of course! I’ll talk to you later.”
I hear a couple different voices in the background, one being Scott shouting “tell her I’m booking my flight immediately!”
I smile and Chris ends the call with a hushed goodbye. I sigh and the taxi driver says “Where to?”
“The airport please.”

After all pt. 2
word count: 2,210
warnings: none
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Carly looks down to her phone as I call her as I scramble out of the preschool later than I should.
Parents forgot to pick up their kids on time.
I saw Ryan, Carly’s husband again. It’s been awhile. But he was just as I remembered him.
“What’s up?”
“I’m just leaving work. I’m locking up. I’m freaking out. Tell me about this guy again.”
Carly smiles and says “I sense nerves. He’s a nice guy. Stable job, just not a lot of time to find someone to date. Which is why this works so well.”
“And he knows I’m just a preschool teacher?”
She scoffs and says “You’re so much more than that. You’re a owner of a preschool with her masters in child psych and education. Shut up. You’re easily too good for him. But, he does work out daily and he is very attractive.”
I smile and say “Too attractive for me?”
“Don’t give me that. You’re beautiful. Sam is sweet and has good taste. He’ll love you. Just get your cute dress on and get to the restaurant.”
I nod and say “Okay. You’re right. I totally can do this.”
I pull into my driveway saying “Ryan hasn’t changed by the way. He looks the same.”
“Unfair right?”
I laugh and say “If things work out between this Dr. Sam and I, we should go on a double date.”
Quickly as I walk up to my steps of my house I reach for my keys, dropping my phone into the huge puddle on my porch from my leaking drain pipes
I scream “No!”
Dropping my bag and keys as I desperately try to salvage my phone from the water damage.
I run inside, trying to see if the phone is still working “Carly??”
“Carly?”
I groan as I drop it into a bag of rice, which to my surprise DOESN’T work.
I grab all my things and head to my bedroom looking for my MacBook. I call Carly saying “Oh my god. I ruined my phone. I dropped it into a puddle.”
“No..”
I nod as I look to her face through FaceTime on my laptop.
She says “That sucks. Just forget about it and get ready. You’re supposed to meet up with him at 9 right?”
Nodding I say “Isn’t that kind of late for dinner?”
“He’s a doctor and dinner that late is normal for dates. Thats at least what Scott told me when I told him about this blind date I set up.”
I look to the screen annoyed saying “You told Scott? Why??”
“He’s good at the whole dating thing! And I needed something to bring up during the family barbecue.”
I gasp and say “tell me you didn’t tell your whole family I’m a lonely desperate spinster! Oh my god!”
She winces and says “I didn’t say it like that!”
“Your family thinks I’m a loser! What 30 year old is unmarried and not even engaged?? All I need is cats!”
“You’re allergic to cats.”
“I’ll just have to let my throat swell up and my eyes swell shut and then I can die a spinster like I’m supposed to apparently!”
“y/n. you’re not going to die alone. Relax.”
“I’ll have my cats!”
“y/n.”
“What’d they say? Who heard you?”
Carly sighs as I slip out of my jeans and top and into my dress.
“I only told the siblings. And my mom.”
I groan and say “Tell me you didn’t tell Chris and your mother.”
“I did. Oh my god… tell me you don’t still have that crush on him!”
I slip in my dress as I struggle with it, nose diving as I grow flustered. I tumble to the ground groaning
She laughs as she says “I can’t believe you haven’t gotten over that! He is so beyond overrated.”
I reach for the laptop as I slowly climb up, zipping my dress in the process “I don’t have a crush on Chris. We aren’t in junior high anymore.”
I hang up and scramble to my car, without a phone, without a jacket. In a complete scramble as I get in my car and fix my makeup while I drive
Carly shakes her head as she laughs at my antics after she gets off the call
Ryan enters the house with the rest of the family as the family home gets rented for termites
Scott says “So? I need an update.”
Carly shakes her head saying “She’s just as funny as I remember her. She’s hilarious.”
Chris says “Who?”
All three of the others besides his mom say “y/n. Sloane.”
His head tilts towards them and says “You were serious about setting her up with someone?”
Carly nods saying “Yeah. Couldn’t just let her be a spinster.”
“She’s young. She’ll find someone on her own, Carly. Why’d you step in?”
Carly scoffs saying Excuse me? She’s 30. 30 something actually. And she wants a husband and kids and Sam, Ryan’s doctor friend, is perfect for her.”
Scott looks over to Chris as he crosses his arms. Lisa says “I’m glad she’ll get to settle down. She deserves that life. Especially after her grandmother died.”
“Her grandmother died?”
Everyone looks to Chris and he says “What? I’m not up to date on the gossip at home.”
Ryan says “How’d she take the news that Sam had an emergency patient come in and had to cancel?”
Carly looks to him confused saying “What? What are you talking about?”
“Sam called me while I was at work, I know I texted your cell. He has an emergency surgery on a 4 year old.”
Carly shakes her head saying “No. I received no message. Give me your phone.”
She pulls the phone from his hands and scoffs “Apparently you texted our landline. That doesn’t even receive texts. Oh my god! Why do you even have me listed as that?”
“My assistant did it. She thought-”
“Well your assistant is wrong.”
“Can’t you just call y/n and tell her an emergency happened and he needs to postpone the date?” Scott asks
Carly shakes her head saying “I could if she didn’t drop her phone into a puddle and complete trash it today. But now I have no way of calling her.”
Chris says “So let me get this straight, you set up Sloane, our Sloane. The family friend Sloane that’s an extremely good friend of all of us on a blind date that will never show up and will lead to her being so incredibly embarrassed?”
Scott winces and says “She’ll never go on a blind date again.”
Carly groans saying “I’m going to call the restaurant.”
Ryan says “I can call John and see if he can fill in.”
“John is a unemployed asshole who lives in his sisters basement! No!”
Scott says “I would suggest men but all the guys I know aren’t playing for that side..”
Chris sighs as they all look to him. “What? Why are you all looking at me?”
Lisa pats his shoulder and says “I love you so much, honey.”
He narrows his eyes at her and Scott says “You’ve gotta do it, dude.”
Chris’s eyes widen and he says “No. No can do. I’m not going to do that!”
Ryan looks to Carly and says “That might work.”
Chris scoffs saying “She would be beyond angry with me, do you not understand that? I don’t feel like getting yelled at.”
Scott says “It’s better than her getting hurt.”
“I-I don’t like this.”
“Just do us all a favor. Come on, Chris. Please.”
He sighs and says “I need to run lines. And- god… never mind, where is she?”
Carly smiles to him and the others smile to him. He sighs and says “I need to hurry if the date started at 9, who starts a date at 9? That’s so late.”
Her smile widens as she says “She said the same thing.”
I sit down in the bar of the restaurant discouraged and embarrassed as I nurse my drink, slowly drinking it as the bartender says “Date gone wrong?”
I sigh and say “He’s apparently a doctor and he’s coming straight from work.”
“Oh. Interesting.”
I push the glass towards him saying “More please.”
He smiles and pours more into my glass. He says “You look so familiar. Are you my sons preschool teacher?”
I look up shocked and groan as I drop my head onto my hands. “Elijah’s dad... oh god.”
He laughs saying “This is a different look for you I have to say.”
I look to him and say “Teachers night out.”
He smiles saying “Don’t worry, your secrets safe with me.”
“You have no idea how embarrassing this is. I rarely ever go on dates like this and the one time I do… here you are.”
He laughs saying “Trust me, you aren’t the only person I’ve known that’s came in here. I had an ex-girlfriend come in here, while we were still dating with a blind date.”
I wince and say “Okay, so clearly your day was worse than mines going now.”
He nods saying “Then I met Elijah’s mom a few months later.”
“Fate.” I nod to him
He shrugs saying “I guess so.”
He slides me the bowl of peanuts saying “Should probably eat some of these.”
I shrug saying “Not like I have work in the morning. How’s Elijah? He good?”
Nodding he says “Oh he loves your preschool. So do his mom and I. It’s a beautiful school.”
I nod saying “thanks. I’ve been trying to improve it since I inherited it, my grandma was one hell of a preschool teacher and owner. It’s a lot to live up to.”
“Yeah, must be difficult, for what it’s worth you’re really great with the kids. I don’t think any of them could ever say a bad thing about you.”
I chuckle as I sip my drink saying “I’m sure they’ve called me butt face or something behind my back.”
He smiles and says “It’s pretty empty in here, what kind of guy sets a date for 9pm? I’m usually eating dessert or asleep by that time when I’m not working.”
I nod and open my mouth to agree when I’m interrupted
“I was just about to say the same thing, what idiot plans for a late dinner like this and stands up a beautiful girl like her.”
I tense up as the bartenders eyes widen as he looks between the two of us, back and forth
Chris approaches as I sink into my seat
“It’s been a long time, Sloane.”
I grit my teeth and say “Not long enough..” standing up to brush past him quickly
“Sloane...come on.”

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
I can’t imagine what it must feel like for Chris.
I shouldn’t have waited years to deal with my marriage problems. I shouldn’t have ran from the man I loved.
But my mind doesn’t wander to the what ifs of the past. It pains for the lost future I could lose. There’s no reunion where I get my husband back like I've been hoping for.
It's just death and him being without me.
Me being without him. Sounds like the worst time of my life all over again.
Chris stares in horror as the paramedics pack the wounds quickly saying “You need to speed up John! She’s losing a lot of blood!”
Chris narrows his eyes at my face, shaking his head saying “You don’t get to leave me... you told me you wouldn’t leave me... don’t do this Jules... don’t you dare hurt me like this. We almost got our marriage back. Don't you dare give up now. Please, honey.."
The paramedics say “Give me some space sir.”
Chris sinks into a seat as the paramedics work to pack the wounds. With blood loss finally under control one of the paramedics ask “Are you Captain America?”
Chris can feel the anger in himself peak as he grits his teeth. So ready to punch the EMT out.
But... sadly, he needs this stupid guy to save his wife.
The other paramedic pushes the man saying “Dan!”
Dan shrugs saying “Sorry. Horrible timing..”
Chris glares at them saying “She’ll be alright. Right?”
The paramedics each look to each other and silence lingers as they hesitate.
“Yeah. We’re working as fast as we can to get her help. She should pull through.”
Present day:
“I’ve got it. I don't want your help right now."
I push Pete’s arm off my back as I stand on my own and walk into the kitchen. He says “y/n..”
“I need to do things on my own. Alright?”
He nods and I say “My mom says my dad and her are going to leave on Thursday for their road trip out here.”
“Ah. Yes. Your dads fear of airplanes. Has he really never been on one before?”
No. He has. Once.
Chris called my parents landline after my crash. My dad answered the call. Never in his life had he flown on a plane.
He was terrified, but my life was in danger.
Chris always had a way of convincing my dad into things and comforting my family in crisis.
He was their lifeline while I wasn’t all there in the beginning
The crash caused emotional issues. I was angry that I couldn’t do things that I could before. Recovery was taking longer than I could handle
My sister brought Pete to me a day or so after my accident. I snapped. He blamed it on the pain and meds.
But, it was my honest thoughts. I longed for my past mistakes to be gone. To have my real husband beside me.
But, inevitably Cora and the awkwardness of the situation handled that problem…. Sadly.
Chris took himself out of the equation after he saw Pete’s devotion to me and my sisters liking of him.
He left me. And I don’t think I’ll be whole again. For awhile at least.
Cora never supported Chris and I’s relationship.
Stupid brat…
I look down at the sink in front of me, sighing as Pete continues talking “They’ll have a few days to spare before the rehearsal dinner at least.”
I squeeze the granite counter top as he says “You’ve been practicing your walk down the isle without your limp from your leg surgery. Your sister told me, how’s it going?”
“It’s fine.”
Pete nods saying “My mom told me I should have a real talk with you before the wedding. About our future.”
“Mmhm.” I say uninterested as I look down to the rsvp list stuck to our fridge, held on by a magnet.
Cora invited all the Evans’ including my ex-husband I still have unrequited love for.
“Kids. Where do we stand on that again? It’s been awhile since we’ve talked about it.”
I tense up and he says “My mom has baby name suggestions she’s been saving for years apparently.”
I told myself I didn’t want to put myself through the pain of loosing a child ever again.
Losing Jack destroyed everything. It destroyed my life and my sanity. And my marriage.
“I don’t want any kids.”
He stands up, entering the kitchen quickly saying “What?”
“I thought I told you this.”
“You told me you were open to the idea eventually. We’re getting married, I thought you just meant later on.”
I skim the list on the fridge seeing that nearly everyone answered their rsvp, including the Evans’.
Only 4, Lisa, Scott, Carly, and Shanna.
That’s it.
And that’s only because I went to most of their weddings.
No Chris.
“I don’t want children.”
“I understand that after your accident you’ve changed a bit but-”
I sigh saying “I haven’t wavered on my no kids decision. I can’t and won’t have anoth.. a child.”
He shakes his head, not even processing my slip up to say “You said you were open to it.”
“I never said that.”
“You came out of that accident a different person. I don’t even recognize you. You don’t want to have kids with me?” He says hurt
I shake my head saying “I don’t want to have kids in general.”
“Why?”
I sigh saying “It’s a long story.”
“Clearly it’s important to you if you feel the need to not have kids because of it.”
I pause, and debate telling him. His phone rings before I can even say anything about Jack.
He sighs and says “This is the band I booked. Let me just handle this and we will finish this talk.”
He leaves the room and I walk to the guest room and shut the door behind me.
How did I get here?
In my life how did I end up here?
My hand reaches for the phone beside me and I press call as I hold tightly to the phone.
Calling Chris’s old number just to hear his outdated voicemail
Chris looks to the ringing phone and Jenny says “You still have a flip phone?”
“I need to toss it. I know. I’m just sentimental.”
I smile as I hear his voice on the voicemail. I sigh and say as it tells me to leave a message “Can’t believe this thing still has your voicemail. Your voice sounds like a 10 year old. Late bloomer I guess. I miss you. So painfully much. I thought it'd be getting easier without you. I'm getting married in a week and a half. Doesn't feel the same as the first one. Or our second one. We really could have been something amazing.. This is purely for the voicemail to a phone that doesn’t exist anymore but god I miss you.”
Jenny looks down to the flip phone as Chris scribbles his signature on the bill
“who’s Jules? And why are there so many hearts beside it?”
He tenses up and looks down to the phone as my voicemail embarrassingly goes through
“A friend from high school. It doesn’t matter. She’s getting married next weekend.”
Jenny smiles and says “Oh! Are you going?”
Chris grits his teeth and shakes his teeth saying “No.”
He stands up and says “Let’s go.”
I dial Cora’s number feeling my anger rise. She answers and I hear my nephews arguing in the background
“Hello?”
I grit my teeth saying “Why do you hate me?”
“God… of course it’s you. I don’t have time for this right now, y/n.”
I shake my head saying “I’m your little sister why do you hate me?”
“I don’t hate you. I have to go. I have kids and responsibilities, umlike you.”
I pause and say “I told him I never want kids with him.”
Cora stops talking and I sit in silence with the phone pressed to my ear.
“And you don’t?”
I feel tears well up and I say “No. Not with him. Not with anyone. I’m too afraid. If I burden another child with cancer I won’t survive it. I barely survived Jack’s death.”
She sighs and says “Does he know about Jack?”
“No. He doesn’t need to know about him. He doesn’t deserve to know.”
She pauses and says “You’re marrying him. I’d say he deserves it more than anyone else.”
“And if I told you I want out? I don’t want to marry him?”
She scoffs saying “You’re letting the wedding jitters get to you. Jack would want you to be happy. He only ever wanted you to smile. So don’t be emotional about this. Come on, y/n.”
I frown and say “Yeah..”
She nods saying “Yeah. Exactly. He’s a good guy.”
“Mmhm.”
I’m so checked out of this relationship. I'm not happy.

Protecting the ones you love pt. 6
Warnings: none
Word count: 2,890
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
My hand squeezes Obi’s tightly as I stare at the storm troopers seated in front of us.
"You a miner?"
Obi shakes his head saying "A farmer, from, uh, Tawl."
Stormtrooper asks "What are you doing out here?"
I cautiously look to the girls as Obi says "That's a long story." They quickly counter "It's a long way."
Leia says "They brought me here to see the place where he met my mother before she got sick..."
Obi says "She's dying and we wanted to see the place one more time as a family. It's been a very difficult time."
I squeeze Obi's hand so tightly out of anger he bites his lip to suppress the wince.
"What about you? You have any information about two Jedi's?"
I look to them saying "We wouldn't even know a jedi if we saw one."
"You haven't heard anything?"
Leia says "Nothing, nothing at all in fact. Are you sure he's even on this planet?"
"They know what they're doing, Leia."
Leia, Demi, and I all look to Obi angrily and I slide my hand towards my lightsaber as the stormtrooper says "You called her Leia. I thought her name was Luma."
"That was her sisters name... before we lost her a few years ago. She looks so much like her. I get confused. Like I said, it's not been easy on my family, losing everyone we love so close together. Sometimes when I look at Luma, I see her mothers face. I am going to miss her very much."
He holds me closer and I tense in his grip.
"Well, just keep your eyes open."
I nod and Obi and Leia and Demi all say "Of course."
"This is us! Thanks Freck!" The vehicle slows and I remove my hand from my lightsaber and push Obi further away from me as I run my hand down the bridge of my nose.
Demi glares at Leia and Leia narrows her eyes at Obi. I look to her confused as Obi asks "What?"
"You knew her, my real mother, didn't you?"
I feel my body tense again and Obi's eyes trail to me. "It was just a story Leia."
"The whole time I've known you, you've been hiding something. Lying to me."
"Leia." I warn and she asks "Are you two my real parents? Are you my real father too?"
My mouth drops as Demi looks to us confused "Mom?"
I shake my head as Obi says "I wish I could say I was, but no, we're not your parents."
I kiss the top of Leia's head saying "You are still very much so a daughter to me even if not biological."
She says "Sometimes I try to imagine what he was like."
"I know that feeling. As Jedi, we're taken from our families when we're very young. I still have glimpses, flashes really, my mother's shawl, my father's hands. I remember a baby."
"A baby?" Demi asks
"Yes. I think I had a brother. Really don't remember him. I wished I did. Then I joined the Jedi, and I got a new family just like you. Including May- Lind. I would have never met her if I didn't join the jedi and Demi would never have been born too."
I soften to his words and I smile at him. I shake my head saying "Obi was the only family I had. I have no memory of my life before becoming a Jedi. I was an orphan, and Master Windu took me in when I was incredibly young. Always told me I had so much potential."
Demi says "You were a Jedi longer than Obi?"
I nod and say "Yeah. I was practically a baby when I was found."
"Where were your mother and father?"
I shrug and say "I don't know."
We're interrupted as we approach laser gates. I look up and Obi says "Freck! Freck? Can we get off here?"
"Oh, it's a standard inspection. Don't worry, won't take long. I know these fellas."
I make eye contact with Obi and nod. I slide his hood to his coat and hide my face in mine. I hear Freck warn the Stormtroopers of us. Leia and Demi look to the both of us
My hand wavers over my lightsaber and the stormtroopers approach. "Not a lot of reasons to be in the outpost today. Where you headed?"
"Uh, back to Tawl. We have family here we were visiting."
"Alright, step out of the vehicle. Initiate protocol 23."
I stand up as Obi shields us as he goes first. Demi and Leia stay behind me, holding tightly to my robe. I watch as Obi warns me with his eyes and I watch his hand slip onto his weapon
I step down, helping the girls as Obi's hand rests on my side. I stand beside Obi, with the drone approaching in the air
We both step in front of the girls and he makes an effort to pull me behind him but I shake my head and give him a look. It lands in front of us and the storm troopers say annoyed "Raise your head."
"I said raise your heads."
I lift my head, Obi right after me. The alarm beeps right on my face as I slide my hood down. Obi shoots it before it shoots and everything moves quickly as we jump forward towards the troopers
My light saber slicing the head off one cleanly.
Obi handling the other. I look to the girls momentarily before driving the lightsaber through one of their chests. Obi uses Freck as a shield and I hold my light saber out to the approaching trooper.
Freck is hit down and I slice the storm trooper with the saber. I look to Obi as he approaches relieved. He pushes the hair out of my face and I smile to him.
We round the corner and freeze in place as the storm trooper holds Demi and Leia.
I'm filled with anger and the trooper shouts "Put it down! Put it down!"
I slowly drop my light saber as Demi and Leia's eyes bare into me. Obi nods saying "Alright. I'm putting it down. I'm putting it down. Just... Let the girls.."
He shoots the storm trooper and the girls run to us quickly. Each of them grabbing one of our hands.
The gate doesn't power down and a shot to it quickly works. But a truck full of stormtroopers approach. "Get down! Get down on the ground!"
"Put your head down!"
I hesitate and Obi does as asked. I look to the general as she shoots the stormtroopers dead. "Come on, now. They'll have sent a transmission. We have to hurry. I'll take you the rest of the way."
I look to her confused as I say "Tala?"
She nods saying "May-Lind. I thought that was you."
I smile saying "I haven't seen you in ages."
Quickly she brings us to safety and explains everything going on to the best of her ability and where we will go next.
"He gave you the right coordinates but by the time I had gotten there you were gone."
"I hadn't expected anyone to come." Obi admits. I nudge him and say "I told you."
"The Empire's gone into high alert. They've locked everything down."
"I can tell." I admit
"Can we still get out?"
"I can get you to the port. There's a pilot who's agreed to take you, but he's not scheduled to leave for a few hours. so we need to lay low. Wait here while I make sure it's all clear."
Demi clings to Leia's side as they both grow nervous. I feel the nerves grow for me and Obi reassures them quickly as I immediately remember why I loved him so dearly
He rests his hand on my back and I reassure Leia saying "It wasn't your fault Leia. It was me who was supposed to keep you safe in a situation like that. I'm the one that failed."
"I miss home."
"Me too." Demi agrees as her pout on her face grows
"You'll all be home very soon."
Tala leads us to the safe area and we meet the droid that can't speak, NED-B, which prompts Leia into introducing Lola.
Which leads Demi into saying "Why did you give me the stupid name when you got the better name when we were on the truck? You named me after your droid!"
They bicker and I quickly push them apart as they argue and Obi speaks with Tala as I tell them to stop bickering. I look around at the safe house as Tala explains it.
"You're not the first Jedi's to come through here. And May knows that."
My jaw tightens as they all look to me and she says "And from there, we give them new identities and get them out. There's a lot of good people risking their lives out there."
Demi says "Are they all Jedi like my mom?"
I look to her and smile slightly. She's proud that I'm a jedi. Tala smiles saying "Not all. These days, the empire hunts anyone who's force-sensitive. Even children."
My grip on Leia and Demi's coats tightens at the mention.
"What happens to them?" Leia asks as Demi gulps out of fear. "We don't know. But no one ever sees them again."
Obi asks "And May knows of all of this? How?"
"She helped create the path."
They all look to me as I look to the ground. Leia says "Oh woah."
Obi says "And when did she do this?"
"After everything, before Demi was born. I knew I needed safe guards put in place for Jedi's and force-sensitive because of people like Leia and Demi. I wanted a back up plan and it ended up saving countless Jedi's. I only started this. It was the others that really contributed. I stepped away from it all as soon as Demi was close to being born. A few months prior. I didn't want anyone to know of her so, I left."
Tala says "And we never even knew of her until now. Well, me, at least."
"Quinlan was here."
"Yeah. He helps now and again. Smuggling younglings."
I smile and listen to him transcribe the writing "Only when your eyes are closed can you truly see."
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Well, surprise! I'm back.
I don't have much to say! But I have an idea for who Demi should end up with. heheheheh... and a whole plot for her daughter too. :)
