It's giving me concerns. At first, it was cute, then it was alarming, and then it was confusing.
It's only the first chapter, so I don't have all the details, but it was very suspicious. It seems like Misaki's boyfriend(?) is abusive. We only get 2½ scenes in reference to him, and they're not good. Bad vibes. And the title of the series further pushes my belief that that is what's happening. The title alone implies to me tears and secrets. I got this book assuming it would probably be depressing with a bittersweet ending, and I'm already feeling like that was a good assumption.
Aside from that, I'm curious how prominent flowers are going to be in the story. At first I thought it would be a really specific reference to a certain flower with meaning to the story as a whole, but since Misaki does plant physiology, I'm now thinking that different flowers/meaning will come up throughout the story, with the most prominent one being related to his necklace. I'm not sure about that, but I would love it. It's always great when a story incorporates flowers and their meanings.
My confusion comes in Arikawa saying Misaki's name in his sleep despite not knowing who he is. His friend mentioned the name earlier, but Arikawa doesn't even remember that. So, where did the name come from? I'm confused.
I'm intrigued though. It fits with what I was going for when I bought it. I will probably read the whole series just because that was what I wanted.
(Also, it's really pretty, and Only the Flower Knows is a pretty sounding title to have on my shelf. Every reason counts.)
Books-A-Million is having a Buy 3 Get 4th Free manga sale, and I'm a bit offended by it. Where is my Buy 2 Get 3rd Free sale? Am I supposed to be excited by this sale? Am I supposed to be happy? It's disgraceful. The audacity. I have no problem going in on a regular day and dropping $200-300 for some full-priced manga. But I'm petty, and this sale makes me mad. It doesn't even make sense. And it's online exclusive, and it's not even on all of their manga. Screw this.
What's the name of the character in Tower of God who opened an arcade and called it a day? Like, his dream was to open/own an arcade, not to make money from it or anything. Literally, just the arcade. No more. No less.
It's a wild cast of characters in this one. To be honest, that's my entire review of the first chapter. Interesting chemistry. It's cute. It's funny. I'll probably get the whole series.
But am I the only one who thinks the characters are awkwardly normal? Like, he likes zombie girls and the idea of taking care of them. And she's just, "Yeah, you can try your reanimation potion on me~." Do these only sound like real-world motivations and responses to me? Am I just surrounded by weird people?
In other manga, characters seem fairly dull in comparison. Even their weirdness and quirks are rather. . .mundane. The true weirdness is the lack of natural character.
The main characters friends are also pretty boring, on that note.
Anyway, I looked at the back of the book, as I always do. There was no 'Stop! You're reading the wrong way!' page. However, there were 15 other manga recommendations. And since of them were wild. I don't even know. Something's Wrong With Us, Gleipnir, Sweat And Soap.
I cannot explain how extremely uncomfortable the room in the Nightmare teasers looks to me. It is literally a nightmare. A texture nightmare. I'd be clawing my skin off. Ew.
I would like to applaud myself for making it 8 whole days into the new year before buying a Kpop album. I was hoping to hold out longer, but the Daydream teaser images were simply too stunning. And so, I am out $30, but guaranteed a photobook with some of the most beautiful imagery known to humankind.
Also, I have already changed my phone wallpaper accordingly. My laptop is next.
What is this thing about some Boys Planet dude punching JYP in a parking lot?
I haven't seen any evidence, and a funny rumor is a funny rumor, but where did it come from? Who started this and why? If this is just false advertising by a fan to get others to vote for Wooseok (?), it's excellent. It's definitely working, but still, I must ask: Why?
Truthfully, I would probably buy this whole serious just because of the soft-matte cover. It's my favorite.
However, story-wise, I still want the whole series. I ended up reading two chapters since they're a bit short, but even based on just the first chapter, I still want the other books. It's adorable, funny, and it actually works. I can see how he thinks he's being bullied, and how she thinks she's being romantic.
I'm curious about the cat logo as the volume marker. And the cute cat on the back cover. I wonder when a cat will come into the picture. I just want the context for it.
I also think it's interesting that the characters are renewed versions of one from a doujinshi the author had done a few years prior to this. I'm mad though, that the author wrote,
but didn't drop the doujinshi. I want to read it. I want to do a comparison of the characters.
Also, Toramaru reminds me of Saetbyeol, which is great. That's a great character type.
The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You
I don't think I can keep up with this one.
There's a lot of Fourth Wall breaking.
There's a lot in general. A lot going on.
If none of the girls die in this series, I'm going to be a bit disappointed if decide to collect it. I can easily see the comedy that would ensue in him trying to date 100 girls, but that's a lot to try and keep up with, not just for him, but for me as a reader.
Backstreet Rookie is currently my favorite drama. But, I swear, if Yeonju gets a happy ending. I'm going to cry. I hate her.
And the audacity to be offended and hurt because her boyfriend never gave her a piggyback ride. Like, you are literally a manipulative twat. He would do anything you want. And even without that horrible personality trait of yours, all you had to do was ask.
And piggyback rides aren't even particularly romantic. Literally, she's so petty for no reason.
And the scene in the hospital where she tells her to stop working at the convenience store. Absolutely not. I'd've knocked her front teeth out.
