The happy Belcher bunch. From left to right: Kuchi Kopi, Louise, Tina
Tumblr media
Hi Louise.
Tumblr media
Look at Tina.
It’s a tragic story …. Or is it? 🧐
My favorite kitchen jar set. EVER!
In between moves, I nagged everyone about my jar set. Don’t break them, be careful, not so rough, oh my don’t grab them like that.
Who better to take care of them, than me? Pffttt 😮‍💨Was I wrong. I carefully wrap them in paper and place them in a bag. I place the bag on the table and I hear a sound. The most mortifying sound. Was that the sound of ceramic cracking? I open the bag and there it is. Louise‘s cute bunny ears have snapped!
It‘s okay, I have the other two. I can make this work. 😅 Perhaps, I can even fix the bunny ears. We know how that goes. I never get around to fixing them. I get home and place them on the counter top. Moments later…. it all just happened so fast.… All I remember is seeing Tina’s lid fly off the countertop and smashing into the floor. Paralyzed, I stood watching as it shattered to pieces. It was accidentally flung from the countertop when moving things around.
I kept Kuchi Kopi (green one) on the dangerous counter top filled with coffee, and the other two stored in that dark top shelf in the cabinet. I didn’t even want to look at them, it was too sad.
Months later, I ask myself, what's the point in keeping them? As I am about to throw them out, wait.. I want them displayed, so why not bring them back to life? Picked out some easy to care for plants and put life back into my jars. 😊 🪴 From left to right, I decided on croton, aloe and pothos. These plants are so easy to care for. Not fussy about water or light and happy to be indoors.
Don’t throw out that jar you love , cup, pot or even bowl.
Repurpose it!

Potted Succulents
Houseplants, where to start? I go to the garden section I see perennials, annuals, succulents, herbs, climbers. Sunflowers, lilies, pathos, daisies…. Ahhhhhh but what can I keep alive???
Everyone says desert plants. They require minimal care, and not too fussy if you miss a watering.
This arrangement of succulents pretty much takes care of itself. Over four months strong 💪
Proud succulent parent 🏜

Wildflowers and hydrangeas oh my
When in Washington DC don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers. Okay, maybe not literally but take a second to admire and appreciate all the different kinds. From federal buildings, office buildings, small businesses, tiny stoops and large fields. Can you spot one you haven’t noticed before? It was the artichoke plant for me.😜

Giant Swallowtail
As I’m watering the hedges near by, this giant butterfly follows my trail. The hose spraying a couple feet ahead of me as I sway side to side. There, he sways with me. Mesmerized by his large wingspan, I follow to see where he will go next. I say “he” because I believe it to be a male due to the thick yellow spots on the wings. But he lands. He plants himself on the soil. “Hey little guy, are you alright?” I wonder .. I get closer and closer to examine him, which he doesn’t seem to mind. He looks fine. In fact, he looks absolutely beautiful and healthy. His wingspan is about 4-5 inches, with the top surface covered in black and yellow spots that make lines. The inside of the wing is mostly yellow with subtle touches of blacks, blues and oranges.
Puddling… apparently that’s a term I was unfamiliar with. Butterflies get most of their nutrients from flower nectar, but some need the soil to soak up other nutrients like salts and minerals. Usually, the male will be the one puddling because the salts and minerals help improve their sperm, which in turn helps reproduce when mating with a female.
Keep on puddling my little butterflies 🦋

That time of the week comes around, the farmers market is here. They have endless options from handmade clothes, fresh juices, organic vegetables and fruits, to the most beautiful flowers. I stop, and ask them to pick out the most beautiful arrangement to put in my house. From babies breath, to exotic looking orange flowers, like needle protea and purple snapdragons. Satisfied with my new arrangement, I just can’t wait to place it in the center of my home for everyone to see. I pick the perfect vase, and the perfect spot on a side table right by the front door. Any one walking in will be sure to see it, there’s no missing it!
Moments later ... I’m absolutely mortified. My cat decided this beautiful arrangement looks like a delicious snack. Now, I have half eaten flowers and cat spit all over them. I try to move them, but she follows the scent and can’t help but go back for round two.
What about those toxic plants and flowers? It can be easy to lose track of what’s safe and what’s not. Along with catnip leaves, and cat grass my cat enjoys wheatgrass. Just like wheatgrass is full of health benefits for humans, it is just as beneficial to your fur baby.
Cats look to grass to help with their digestive system. Their bodies aren’t able to break down grass due to a lack of stomach enzymes. So, what does that mean? It needs to come out one end or another. This actually helps with healthy digestion and helps rid of hair balls, fur and bones that they may get from their prey. Ok, I know not all cats are as wild as mine, but good to know just in case. Also, vitamin A helps with your cats night vision, vitamin B-complex helps promote healthy nervous system and chlorophyll helps aide in producing stronger blood and eliminating toxins. It can also make their skin soft and fur silky smooth. And sometimes they just need oral stimulation, and something to chew on or even alleviate anxiety and stress.
Give your kitty what they want and need.
