‘She sat at the back and they said she was shy,
She led from the front and they hated her pride,
They asked her advice and then questioned her guidance,
They branded her loud, then were shocked by her silence,
When she shared no ambition they said it was sad,
So she told them her dreams and they said she was mad,
They told her they'd listen, then covered their ears,
And gave her a hug while they laughed at her fears,
And she listened to all of it thinking she should,
Be the girl they told her to be best as she could,
But one day she asked what was best for herself,
Instead of trying to please everyone else,
So she walked to the forest and stood with the trees,
She heard the wind whisper and dance with the leaves,
She spoke to the willow, the elm and the pine,
And she told them what she'd been told time after time,
She told them she felt she was never enough,
She was either too little or far far too much,
Too loud or too quiet, too fierce or too weak,
Too wise or too foolish, too bold or too meek,
Then she found a small clearing surrounded by firs,
And she stopped...and she heard what the trees said to her,
And she sat there for hours not wanting to leave,
For the forest said nothing, it just let her breathe.'

I know this blog is supposed to be a bit of fun but this is technically kind of a big issue with Alice being - sure, a bit of a brat in kind of an enjoyable way in the original novels haha - basically married off against her will in the more recent film adaptation. I’m reaching. I don’t care, it true and it’s important.
It’s crazy that every female you meet will agree like yeah i get sexually harassed all the time, yeah i’ve been assaulted, yeah i’m afraid walking in the dark, yeah i check under my car and in my backseats, yeah i look over my shoulder when i’m alone, yeah men have said creepy things to me since i was 13, yeah men get aggressive with me, yeah strange men touch me in public without my permission, yeah i’ve been called a bitch or a cunt or a whore, yeah i’m afraid of being raped and forcibly impregnated, yeah i am afraid of not being able to access an abortion, yeah i am luxury taxed on period stuff even though i have no choice in the matter, and men will agree this happens and exists, yet anytime anyone is like, “Women are an oppressed group, which means they act like oppressed people, have rage and stressors specific to their oppression, fantasize about escaping oppression, and are still oppressed even if they’re privileged in every other single way,” everyone is like NOOOOOO!!! NOOOOOO EVIL BITCH

I love this style on the usually so very dry copyright page... and I’ve seen so many at the used/antiquarian bookstore I used to work in. So dry, and often disappointing - but now and then you’d get a strange edition or someone who had interesting ideas had written in the margins. Those are now in a different collection, called “My personal library.”

I was gazing covetously at this reading nook when suddenly I realized, it was simply a neat and tidier version of any area in which I spend a noticeable amount of time... Books are sometimes tables, writing desks, or pillows (depending on the value and scarcity I admit, occasionally books are coasters). Heck, a lot of books are often used as stands for other books. Why, of course they’re walls!
All my signed, antique, out of print, or first editions obviously wouldn’t end up like that... I mean... probably. Hasn’t happened yet, so, right.

Um, yes. Yes, that’s all. I think it’s a must to make up for all the travel we canceled all year...

Nice. I have no skills at all and the first time I tried to sew something, I remember my home economics teacher was like, “How did you even manage to DO this so BADLY?” ...Basically. I tried crochet and knitting many years afterward and I could literally not even get the first row done... my friend can do all these things, she lives a million miles away now and knit me a scarf once, and her needlepoint stuff is great, so I’ve thought of it, but history considered, it doesn’t bode well for my success. But that’s neither here nor there and also the kind of thinking that makes people fail so forget all of that.
Anyway, here’s a nifty thing someone made and put on Etsy that I’m wondering if I can convince my mother in law I made myself... (no, not really, but I’m actually certain I could...)

It’s like The Princess Bride meets Alice in Wonderland meets Harry Potter, this tree door thingie is freakin’ frabjous... I think it’s one of those fairy door things people put in the garden, but if so, I still can make this happen. Maybe.

Children and grandparents have a special kind of whimsy that I can’t always find in myself, but always appreciate. That’s why we need books and tumblr and this. I don’t know what brought this about, but I love it and it makes me want to bust out my alpha 6300 and head to Willowbrook park. It’s crap weather outside though, sadly.

I found this amazing journal on Amazon and had to pass it on to you guys. It’s only letting me post ten pictures at a time, and I think that’s a good thing so I have to learn to edit myself... the affordable, less than $10 one you see here is used but I think it looks perfect. If it’s sold out there, use a web search for the ISBN: 978-1-63106-120-2 (things you learn as a book shop girl, always research prices...) because sites like bookoutlet often carry great Alice stuff as well.
The ‘new’ ones are going for about $55, which for me is a nope, but really just the cards alone make it nearly worth that. That pages are lightly lined, and not those giant fancy lines - college ruled, which for Rock Point journals seems a rare treat. Teacups, Cheshire Cats, flamingos, and all sorts of things border unique pages that I’m too in love with to write on. And the pictures on the border not only change on the pages as you flip through, it has plates/illustrations throughout that go with the cards (and it looks like a few unique ones, but I just got it).
I immediately ordered another one.
(There’s fun Moleskine brand (they aren’t worth half what they think they are, as a stationary company, but they know marketing) for Alive in Wonderland, too, and I bought doubles of three kinds in a self made set, from Amazon as well. And it’s not just Alice - The Hobbit, Batman, Toy Story, Star Wars, etc., all have versions.)

I love street art. I love fan art. Street fan art is a rare find, though. Nice.

Sorry, I’ve been missing, I think? Not every rabbit hole leads to Wonderland- how boring would that be? But it’s easy to find the path to places you hadn’t meant to be.
