Yeah the VAs sound the same to me -- I can only tell any difference with Alastor. I think the pilot animation made everything really cutesy, which added to the dissonance of, y'know, the setting being HELL. Also part of why I think Alastor in pilot is widely considered creepier/scarier -- he's so cutesy and jovial that the times his mask drops in pilot are HORRIFYING. Alastor in the show seems… sharper? His voice seems less softened by static, his hair is less fluffy, his expressions aren't constantly moving, etc. Colours in pilot are also more desaturated, I think, which might add to it.
I mean, just with these two clips, Alastor's expressions in the show always look slightly less out there. Sure, the grin is there, but his eyes are allowed to show annoyance more, where the scary part of pilot!Alastor is that we are told he is dangerous, but his demeanor doesn't reflect that. We get glimpses, but he basically matches Charlie for sheer energy and charm.
Meanwhile, S1!Alastor is openly a shithead. He's such a disarming pendulum between "fairly helpful" and "please let's not do this right now, dude, can you have any worse timing." Don't get me mixed up, here, I absolutely love both versions of Alastor! He's hardcore my problematic fave that trumps basically every other such character from other fandoms. Thing is, I kind of register pilot!Alastor and S1!Alastor as similar but separate characters. I get that pilot is still technically canon and whatnot, but in terms of "if I was to write something exploring these characters," Alastor is the ONE character from this show that I wouldn't be able to incorporate his pilot personality into. Everyone else is kind of a caricature of themself in the pilot, so it wouldn't be much of a leap to just use the show, but Alastor just seems to have a disconnect.
Anyway, I love this character so much. It's nice to have a confirmed ace character who I find fun and relatively emotional. I hesitate to say I relate to him, because, y'know, murderer cannibal sociopath, but it is nice to have someone on screen who people recognize and are talking about whose sexuality (and probably views on sex/romance) is so close to my end of the spectrum.
Comparison of animation (and VAs ig) from Pilot vs Overture. (Pls no fighting about who's voices were"better")

Me when I say I'm nonbinary, then agender, then gendervoid. Queer for non-ally cishets, nonbinary for ally cishets, agender for queers (and fellow neurospicy folks), and gendervoid if all qualities of the agender category apply and they are close friends.
so when straight people ask me why I say I’m “queer” or “gay” instead of sharing my actual identity as a panromantic demisexual non-binary sapphic queer I just tell them “ok look, when you’re talking to someone who isn’t local and they ask you where you’re from and you either say the name of the largest city nearby or ‘town name, suburb of large nearby city’ so they can get some geographical context of where you’re located right, bc they’re probably not going to know the name of the little town you actually live in.”
but if you’re talking to a local you can say the name of your actual town bc they have a greater chance of knowing where/what that is.
ok well when I’m talking to a straight person I start with queer bc chances are they aren’t as familiar with the context of all the little towns in that big queer city and need gps (gay positioning system) to find me.
if I’m talking to another queer person and I say I live in a suburb of gay city in a town called panromantic on the demisexual side of the tracks which is in the county of queer and I live off the intersection of non-binary and sapphic, they’d probably be able to find me with little to no problems, make sense?

it was kind of a one-off thing because I had a free elective in community college. Maybe once I'm graduated, moved out, and employed, I'll take another class or find a studio that will let me fire in their kiln or something, but that's a ways in the future. I liked pottery well enough, but my favourite bits of ceramics or throwing on the wheel were the decorative sculptures. If I ever got access to a wheel and a kiln, I would love to do functional sculpture art!

One of my favorite TFP fics ever is the one where Soundwave watches Megatron pass up on killing OP to whale on Starscream and thinking "OK time to get Starscream in Megatron's place" and then Shockwave comes and ends up joining in.
There's also one that really lets Starscream act like a beleaguered admin. I think it counts as a crack fic, but I think it's good.
How Starscream should have been - TotallyARealPerson - Transformers: Prime [Archive of Our Own]
“Thank You For Listening, Soundwave” - ckret2 - Transformers - All Media Types [Archive of Our Own]
Transformers theory
Specifically focused on canon from prime, so don't come at me if this doesn't align with g1 or something cuz I haven't watched most of it. I know it's a big joke in the fandom of "Why does Megatron keep Starscream around when he's always plotting against him?" Of course, in Prime he does some nonsense that is likely influenced by being on Space Crack, but this dynamic with Starscream is pre-earth. So, why would a Megatron not mentally or cognitively compromised let Starscream live?
When Starscream is on the Nemesis and not in his solo/banished era, the only active/serious plots against Megatron are the ones he orchestrates. Starscream has no competition within the Decepticon ranks to take out Megatron; this makes sense because, in my opinion, Starscream is actually quite competent in everything EXCEPT killing/deposing Megatron. Any other Decepticon actively working against Megatron is either directly allied with Starscream and under his leadership or is plotting while Starscream is out of the picture.
Megatron, as leader of the Decepticons, has to keep an eye on plots against him; if those plots only ever come from one person, that makes his life EASIER. I also believe that Starscream is Megatron's second because, yes he is competent and good at administrative/combat duties, but also because he has no other upper ranks to plot against except Megatron. Every time Starscream is deposed from his position as SOC, he switches his immediate plots from Megatron to whoever is in his spot.
Of course, this well-established, semi-functional system goes out the window as soon as Megatron's mental faculties do, and the Decepticons suffer from it. This war has been going on for millennia, and the Autobots (with like 8 warriors and human aid) defeat the Decepticons (who have a fucking army) over the course of, presumably, a year and change of time.
Unrelated, but I also honestly think that the Decepticons would have survived, if not won, had Megatron never returned and Starscream remained leader.

TFP was my introduction into Transformers, and I was like 12-13 when I first saw it, so that all went about 5 meters over my head. I haven't been able to watch most of the series since because I never owned a physical copy and only the first season is on Netflix anymore.
I get what you mean, though, now that I've read what you said. I will say that I think there's no escaping military propaganda in most Transformers media I know of, purely because of the premise itself. I haven't seen it, but maybe Rescue Bots is an exception?
I'm mostly here for the characters and character interactions, because that's my jam.
Actually, you know what, I'm not done providing my unsolicited opinions on Transformers: Prime.
Specifically, the movie add-on, Predacons Rising. I liked the additional screentime for Predaking and the new Predacon characters (even though the movie was TITLED after the Predacons and they got like two and a half scenes of actual dialogue, but whatever).
I did NOT like the conclusion with Megatron. "I have been on the receiving end of oppression and now I have a change of heart" (paraphrased) that is ridiculous. Did the writers not watch the rest of the series? Do they not know any Transformers lore from basically any continuity I know of, ever? The whole POINT was that Megatron started life as part of an oppressed caste, rose to a higher caste (wherein he literally had to fight for his life to stay in that higher position) and organized a revolution against the upper class. He literally was the figurehead of a goddamn worker's riot and these writers want to say he only recently has been oppressed? Seriously?
If they wanted to have Megatron live on after Unicron left his body (which should have left him a lifeless husk bc Unicron was all that was animating his body, but whatever), what they could have done instead was a shift in perspective/seeing the bigger picture/taking a step back and reflecting. The war had changed by the events of the series such that it seems both sides had forgotten or lost sight of why they were fighting at all. Dying and then being puppeted would have had Megatron literally looking at his actions from the outside. Unicron didn't do much, if anything, in Megatron that he wouldn't have done while he was alive. If we give Megatron any credit, which we should if we're keeping the premise that he isn't pure evil and can have a change of heart, then we can assume he would recognize these facts and reflect.
Maybe the writers meant to have Megatron say that as in he had been REMINDED of his initial oppression and goals, but that is NOT what I got from it.

it's gonna drive me bonkers that some of the totem is missing from my picture folders. I think that some parts hadn't fired yet when I had to take all these photos. I'll edit this later if I find the missing pics.

For reference, the cylinder that dragon is attached to is about 6-8 inches across and I had zero access to armature materials. Everything here is pure clay and glaze

I can't remember for the life of me when I did this, but it was before I graduated high school, and I think it still holds up to my current art and interests.
