April (80’s Villains) Week Four: “The Master of Midnight Castle”
"O Rainbow of Darkness, the Darkness sends! Now begin the Night that never ends!"
Wandering a bit off the beaten path with this one, it's Tirac, the very first "My Little Pony" villain from 1986's "Rescue At Midnight Castle"! I've always been very enamored of the idea of a Centaur as a Satanic Villain for Horses, it's the kind of conceptual play I wish we saw more of in the franchise.

I genuinely considered a few possible candidates for this week, but in the end, I will always take an excuse to draw Topkraft characters, so in the end it's that Ever-Living Evil, Mumm-Ra, who gets the spotlight here.

April (80’s Villains) Week Two: “Instrument of Destruction”
"I would've waited an eternity for this. It's over, Prime...."
Going in chronological order here, here's a Bad Guy who's become arguably only more iconic and popular since his 80's heyday. I always enjoy getting to explore the unique blocky angles of "Transformers" character design, and I figgered I'd take the chance to also recreate one of my favorite shots from the iconic 1986 "The Transformers: The Movie" while I was at it!

"Very well, He-Man, you've won this time...but I'll be back!"
They say that April is the cruelest month, so I thought my new theme for this month ought to match, and since I'm feeling especially Nostalgic in my old age, I thought I'd put the focus on Villains from my childhood, that is to say the 80's. Naturally, we had to start off with Skeletor, one of the earliest examples of the form!

He has come, our hero Ultraman!
Here he is, arguably the Granddaddy of the entire Tokusatsu genre as we know it today, Ultraman! I went with 1996's "Ultraman Tiga" specifically because it's one of the only entries in the franchise outside of the original to be localized for and air on a major American TV network.

January (Godzilla Month) Week Four (Final): "Godzilla Never Dies"
And so we wrap up our first month of weekly sketchbook pics for the year with one last Godzilla! I considered doing the original 1954 version that started it all, but, especially in light of the recent passing of Kenpachiro Satsuma, it only seemed right to do my very favorite Godzilla design, the version used from 1989 through 1995 which Satsuma portrayed so distinctively.
