The Coming of Dusk
The sun fades on the plight on mankind. The light of its rays have brought only a cheap dogma and corroded structure of human morality. How we have outgrown that. The pathetic worship of sky and sun deities has plagued us for millennia, and what have we to show for it? Nothing. Clearly, the solar powers have either given up, never cared, or have never been. At any rate, the light of day has nothing more to offer us. And so, we turn our gaze to the ever-dimming horizon.
Thusly, we stand at the edge of dusk, awaiting the rise of the moon and its wisdom. The wisdom that our fears, our wants, our true desires lurk within Darkness. The Night shall cover us, embrace us, guide us. We will find wonderment among the nocturnal glories that have terrified and tormented us since the dawn of time. And they shall be our brethren.
By way of the nocturnal coronation, we shall cover the earth in darkness. Our crown will be our self-actualization, our scepter will be our courage. Our rule will be over the fearful, who remain slaves to the phobias. From Shadows, a glorious reign shall come to be. And no light shall pierce the fortitude of our majesty.

What are the Dark Forces?
Tumblr media
The Forces of Darkness are an enigma. Trying to pin them down into one explanation is nearly impossible, as they evade proper examination. However, the attempt must be made to communicate the glory of these strange currents.
The Dark Forces are ever-present in every fascination with death, horror, the macabre, the occult, and the unknown. They are the ghosts in every scary tale told around a campfire, under a star-filled sky. They are the rappings of a raven, who speaks clear as day. They are the Shadows of humanity and they go by many names and have many forms.
Satan, Choronzon, Thanatos, Ahriman, Hekate.
Baba Yaga, Chernabog, Cthulhu, The Three Mothers.
Ghosts, demons, vampires, werewolves, psychopomps.
All of these are prime examples of Darkness manifesting itself through human imagination. But these forces extend beyond just our own animal brains. The Shadows are manifest in the bruising of a fresh corpse. They are the dirt over every grave. They are the hinges of a casket. They are the night sky, and the bats that fly. They are the moon, both illuminating the world and shrouding it in mystery. They are the Night and all its children.
The Forces of Darkness, whether we like it or not, own us. In our phobias and anxieties, they live and thrive. Our reluctance to accept death as the end is a home for them. They nestle in our fears. All who live have a personal relationship with the Nocturnal Current, positive or otherwise. How could they not? The current runs through them. And eventually, they will be enveloped by that current and find that their final destination is in oneness with the Dark.
Is this a definitive description of what these arcane forces are? No. But it doesn’t matter. What matters is how one connects to this current to manifest their goals and desires in their earthly existence. Does one find inspiration in their fears? Release from mainstream religious dogma? Self-transformation by way of Night? If so, then one is communing successfully with the Forces of Darkness. Such is the mark of Tenebrism.
May Darkness cover the earth.
Hail to the Shadows!

Tenebrism
Tenebrism is the acknowledgement and celebration of the darker sides of life. It is a celebration of the macabre, of death, of life in shadow. Those that find themselves in accordance with this strange religion aren’t shy to admit they have a fascination with the unusual. In fact, that is what the religion is built on, almost entirely. The main crux of the religion is receiving empowerment and appreciating the Dark Forces and all of their machinations.
Tenebrism is derived from a plethora of sources, all over the world. Whatever lurks in the shadows can be made into a symbol, archetype, tool, or fetish in Tenebrism. One can find inspiration in ghostly folk tales, witch trial records, and nocturnal mythology from every culture. In fact, one might even turn to fictional sources, such as the mythos of H.P. Lovecraft. Tenebrism acknowledges that there is power in the fictional. It’s where all our power comes from.
This shadowy religion elevates itself above the mainstream religions and subjugation to any deity. Instead of finding ourselves constrained and suppressed in the name of faith, we forge our own path to salvation (deciding for ourselves if we even need it). Tenebrism offers fantasy, creativity, and self-reflection in place of rigid moral codes, outdated superstition, and avoidance of earthly responsibility. We don’t bend knees to the Dark Forces. Instead, we dance with them on moonlit nights, content to indulge in our most wild imaginations.
A Tenebrist is someone who happens to find beauty in darkness and celebrate it in accordance with their own satisfaction. They bow before only themselves, charged by their passions and the Powers of Darkness. The Tenebrist uses graven images to express their love of Night and all that dwells within. They might choose to do this through ritual, fashion, or by any means of lifestyle correspondence. Tenebrism can be applied in as many ways as there are Tenebrists.
Ritual and Magic:
As stated above, Tenebrism utilizes ritual, for those who want to do so. We use ritualistic acts to communicate to ourselves our desires. Magic can be a powerful tool to use, especially for someone that particularly enjoys doing it. In this sense, Tenebrism acts as a facilitator to a kind of transcendence, though the Tenebrist must be careful not to dilute themselves with too much fantasy. A mark of true Tenebrism is having one foot in reality and one in the realm of fantasy.
The Church of Night fully acknowledges the power of magic as a form of transcendental self-transformation via ritualistic gestures, actions, and states of mind. If a Tenebrist chooses to engage with ritual and magic to achieve a certain goal, we encourage them to do so, however they must also keep in mind that what is done in ritual must be supported by actions in the mundane world. A ritual won’t earn you the world, unless you utilize earthly means to conquer it, as well.
Feel free to come forward with any questions you have and we will be happy to answer them. Night is upon us.
May Darkness reign eternal.
Hail to the Shadows!

Darkness lives.
It might be shut out by most, pushed away by the self-proclaimed “righteous and moral authorities.”
But whether or not anyone chooses to admit it, we all have our shadows. And they will always be the most raw and genuine part of ourselves.
And whether or not it is acknowledged, the Forces of Darkness are always present, always transforming, and always influencing.
Hail to the Shadows! Praises be unto Darkness!

Under the darkness of the light,
The Old Ones dream.
In R’lyeh,
Chaos reigns,
Soon covering the opened sore
Of humanity on the dirt and earth.
Near draws the time
Whence they awake.
