A new way to navigate Tumblr
If you use Tumblr on a web browser, you might have noticed us testing a brand new navigation on your dashboard in the last month. Now, after some extensive tweaks, we’ve begun rolling out this new dashboard navigation to everyone using a web browser. Welcome to the new world. It’s very like the old world, just in a different layout.
Why are we doing this? We want it to be as easy as possible for everyone to understand and explore what’s happening on Tumblr—newbies and seasoned travelers alike.
Tumblr media
Labels over icons: When adding something new to Tumblr in the past, we’d simply add a new icon to our navigation with little further explanation. Turns out no one likes to press a button when they don’t know what it does. So now, where there’s space, the navigation includes text labels. Since adding these, we’ve noticed more of you venturing to previously unexplored corners of Tumblr. Intrepid!
What’s already been fixed? Thanks to feedback from folks during the testing phase, we’ve been able to make some improvements right out of the gate. Those include returning settings subpages (Account, Dashboard, etc.) to the right of the settings page instead of having them in an expandable item in the navigation on the left; fixing some issues with messaging windows on smaller screens; and streamlining the Account section to make it easier to get to your blogs.
What’s next? We’re looking into making a collapsible version of this navigation and improving the use of screen space for those of you with enormous screens. We’re also working on improving access to your account and sideblogs.
That’s all for now, folks. For questions and suggestions, contact Support using the “Feedback” category. Please select the “Report a bug or crash” category on the support form for technical issues. And keep an eye out for more updates here on @changes.

UPDATED ON 8/16/2023
Differences between this universe and canon: Aang
Aang is taken by Windwalkers at around 10yo when the air nomads realize war is brewing.
Because while air nomads have successfully been avatars before, they have never really had to deal with a full blown war of this scale and the avatar couldn’t afford to be a pacifist.
You have no idea how much the elders hated this. Windwalkers were both a taboo and a cautionary tale of straying from the "correct" path
Aang is very traumatized hurt, especially so when he doesn’t see Gyatso sending him off (not realizing that Gyatso has been locked away temporarily to keep him from interfering).
(Ironic considering Aang being a pacifist and refusing to kill was literally his main struggle in the series)
Also a very real threat to the temples. Said air temples are far more fortified against raids than in canon due to this, allowing for more individuals to escape during the initial attack
No Appa because he dies I'm sorry
I am so so sorry I made this worse than the original
I'm going to assume that in canon he meets Appa when he's 8
In this world Appa unfortunately contracts an illness and dies when Aang is 9 (he was unfortunately culled along with other sick bison to prevent the sickness from spreading to the healthy calves)
Yes this is a bad omen and the elders of the Air Temple recognize this (the Avatar's animal guide becomes sick with a fatal illness and of course you're going to be worried)
Aang doesn't get a new bison because of the standard period of mourning + not being able to find another bison in the limited time he had before going with the Windwalkers
The air nomads are attacked at around the same time, but Aang and other factors mitigate the damage Aang is an active agent in supporting and protecting survivors despite their wariness of him.
Due to the Air Temple nomads having created defenses and protocols to prevent the stealing of their members they are more prepared to defend themselves against Sozin's attack
Aang is also able to stall the complete genocide of his people in this world by somewhat successfully, and other times unsuccessfully, helping scatter them to the wind
Unfortunately the hunts do continue for decades after the initial attack on air benders so their numbers are extremely low by the time Aang wakes up
A note: The Air Temple Nomad air benders do not survive in ATLA present time
There are non-benders that were either previously air benders or had air bender ancestry who adhere to their beliefs and way of life - so in that sense the culture hasn't completely disappeared
Windwalker air benders are much more successful with survival to present because their culture and philosophies are largely unaffected (their air bending in general is actually weaker than an air temple nomad - hence their liberal use of conduits)
Aang spends 2-3 years with the Windwalkers.
The tattoos themselves connect him physically and emotionally to the specific sect he was a part of.
Aang spends 1 year in the Northern Water Tribe
It was established that water bending was one of the easiest forms of bending for him to learn. Hence why he spends very little time there.
Spends approx 2 years in Omashu/traveling the Earth Kingdom learning to Earthbend
He actually spends about a year in-between his earth bending training accompanying air nomad fugitives to and fro places while being forced into earth bending training.
You’ll notice as this AU progresses, the mental gymnastics and hoops Aang is going to be performing.
Earth is difficult because despite being heavily adopted into the Windwalker culture, he held very tightly to the air nomad pacifist ideals.
Essentially, he worked very very hard to hold to those ideals to an extreme in an attempt to maintain his old identity of an air nomad. Using a “violent” or explicitly deadly form of bending is the equivalent of giving in when he’s worked very hard not to.
Rescinded the above. Some aspects of this just doesn’t work with the AU anymore. Aang’s difficulty with Earth still lies with the fact that he hates confrontation and prefers dancing around the issue rather than facing it head on.
He's still holding on to his pacifist ideals at this point
At this point he is very active in the war but at the same time literally no one can track him. He gets “trapped” in the iceberg when he’s 17, traveling to a secret sect to learn fire bending. No one else is trapped with him
No Appa = a lot of walking or traveling by ship. He still has his glider but it’s not sustainable for long distance transport.
He gets downed in a storm alone.
I'm not saying anything specifically - but a lot happens in between the being trapped in an iceberg and his earthbending training - by this point he is no longer a pacifist and extremely disillusioned with the state of the world
He meets Katara and Sokka briefly but errs on the side of caution and leaves once he has all the information he can get from them.
Primarily that there is STILL a war going on and he has been gone for a very long time. The first thing he thinks about is how much more work he has to get done (he is so tired)
Also, they are very confused by the fact that he’s wearing fire nation red and gold so neither Katara nor Sokka trust him (Katara is less cautious and more eager to involve herself, but even she is wary of Aang).
Aang isn’t trusting enough to reveal that he’s an airbender (having been a part of a literal genocide - he’s not willing to advertise). He says that he’s a water bender and had been traveling in disguise before being caught in the iceberg (not far from the truth)
He stays with the two for a while as he tries to figure out what he should do, but he's having a hard time processing. He's pretty numb at this point so he can't even appreciate that everyone believes air benders are extinct and that the avatar had abandoned everyone (propaganda war machine goes brrrr) or was dealt with by the Fire nation
Aang has a pretty diverse reputation
Water tribes are neutral, yet reverent of him. Would provide asylum if requested and assist in the war effort.
The remaining Air temple nomads (non-benders) are respectful yet wary. The years have diminished the threat of Windwalkers and many consider the rumors/warnings surrounding them to be a part of the fire nation's anti-air bender propaganda.
The Windwalkers are welcoming of him, but don't have any collective opinion. Being a Windwalker, in their eyes, supersedes his title of "Avatar"
The Central Earth Kingdom does not like Aang. At all. However, the farther away you get from the major Earth kingdom cities, the less obvious the fear and dislike is.
The Fire nation - the Fire nation - they see Aang as a coward (however they're also extremely fearful of him)
Though... there is a bit more variety in the Fire nation
(more later. Next part will be on Zuko - because I’m throwing him into this world with some changes as well)
Parts: (1-Info on Windwalkers)
Differences between this universe and canon: Aang
Aang is taken by Windwalkers at around 10yo when the air nomads realize war is brewing.
Because while air nomads have successfully been avatars before, they have never really had to deal with a full blown war of this scale and the avatar couldn’t afford to be a pacifist.
You have no idea how much the elders hated this. Again, Windwalkers were a very taboo subject
Aang is very traumatized hurt, especially so when he doesn’t see Gyatso sending him off (not realizing that Gyatso has been locked away temporarily to keep him from interfering).
No Appa because he leaves before they’ve met.
I am so so sorry
Aang is much less stable without his animal guide.
I REALIZE THAT THIS IS A PLOT HOLE UMM - we’re just going to say that the eastern air temple had to move Aang to a more secure location where he would have been better defended and better taught much earlier than canon.
The air nomads are wiped out around the same time, but Aang is aware of the attack on his people. He actively supported and protected survivors despite their wariness of him.
Aang is able to stall the complete genocide of his people in this world by sometimes successfully, and other times unsucessfully, helping scatter them to the wind (even hiding some among the fire nation, hoping they wouldn’t turn on their own people).
Unfortunately, much of his aid didn’t help a lot as the hunts continued for decades after the initial attack on air benders.
Aang spends 2-3 years with the Windwalkers.
He receives his air-bending mastery tattoos with them.
The tattoos are mostly the same as canon with some minor additions/stylization on his arrows and down his spinal cord, marking him as a wind walker.
He actually spends about a year in-between his earth bending training accompanying air nomad fugitives to and fro places before being forced into earth bending training.
He gets a bison temporarily that stays with him up until after he completes his earth bending training.

He’s alone. Quite literally very very alone.
I’m so so sorry. The point is that he starts out in this AU as someone who has had everything stripped from him, from his very beginning to his descent into the ocean.
Aang loves people. He’s grown up in a community setting since he was very little, and even more so while with the Windwalkers. It’s more than painful.
(more later. Next part will be on Zuko - because I’m throwing him into this world with some changes as well)

I may or may not have fallen back into ATLA.
Mostly because of Windwalker au, I'm going to be looking back to old posts and modifying/posting new things. As I mentioned on Ao3:
"Hello everyone who is subbed or still somewhat interested in this universe! It's been a long time since I've come back to this because, honestly, I've been struggling with the world building and what topics to tackle. There's been some plot holes that I've been working on patching up and some things I'm changing, primarily that which is related to Zuko, the Fire Nation (and their relationship with Windwalkers), and fundamental concepts surrounding Windwalker culture (specifically related to soulmates and their relationship to emotions). I've also been struggling with myself on how dark (or mentally unwell) Aang will become in this AU. There are some... plotlines that I'm hesitant about establishing as canon to this universe because some of Aang's actions would be borderline (if not blatantly) irredeemable. And that's if I want to go the neutral (unhappy/happy) ending (the type of ending where things seem like they ended up on the "good route" but in reality is actually really messed up). Thoughts??
Regardless, I'm going to be making updates/creating new posts to amend previously uploaded notes to adhere to the updated canon of this universe. Once I get that fixed up I'll start posting actual chapters/narrative.
Thank you to anyone who is still interested or showed any sort of interest at any point. I appreciate you all!! <3
- Anna/Ani"

Bruce was not a superstitious man.
He was a suspicious man, paranoid even. But not superstitious.
He knew magic existed. He knew it was not something he could easily explain to himself or anyone else, and so he generally stayed away from it. It existed. But that didn’t mean it changed all his worldviews based on the discovery of its existence.
He just stayed away from it. It was easier than trying to drive himself insane from trying to make sense it. The Lazarus Pit brought people back to life, there was an equivalent of hell, some people could split the world into those above 18 and those below. If he didn’t question the ‘how’, he would generally stay more sane than if he tried to pick it apart. He preferred to focus on the ‘why’ instead.
So when the mansion suddenly became haunted, Bruce didn’t notice for over a week.
Having a wide range of children that filtered in and out of his house didn’t help in tipping him off either. Especially ones that acted a lot like the ghost in question.
A missing slipper would be blamed on a new pet Damian must have acquired and was attempting to hide in the mansion. Broken vases blamed on rambunctious children tearing through the house playing a game that required leaping off the walls. Disappearing snacks were also blamed on his very active household. Flickering lights were blamed on the mansions age. Cold spots also blamed on the fact the the mansion was massive and a furnace can only do so much at times. A passing black haired child could be a good number of his children based purely on height.
The ghost could have gone a lot longer without being noticed if they hadn’t shown any activity the week all his children were out of the mansion.
He knew that Damien was at his friends house for the night, that Dick was back in his own city and wouldn’t have time to visit during the week. Duke was on a vacation with his friends, enjoying a much needed rest, Jason mentioned being out of town for that week, Barbara was planning a party for her friends, also out of town. Cass and Steph were on a girls week tour out of the city, and Tim was with the titans for a couple of days.
Bruce was all alone.
Or so he thought.
He first saw a mop of black hair walk past him in the middle of the night, and he wished Tim a good night before realizing Tim wasn’t at the manor. When he spun around to check, the child has disappeared. He blamed it on a lack of sleep and moved on.
Then the snacks kept disappearing. Even the ones Bruce had managed to hide. Ones that none of his kids knew of.
One room in the manor was especially cold. An empty spare room. Cold even on a hot summer evening.
What finally tipped him off was when one of the sturdiest vases he owned tipped over behind him and shattered. And a small ‘shit’ was whispered behind him.
He didn’t do anything at first.
He mostly began to just observe, try to catch what else this ghost had been doing. He could tell it wasn’t malicious in any way. Nothing flew off a shelf in anger, there was no wailing or screaming, and so far nobody was getting hurt. He considered calling John.
But the idea was dismissed as John was more likely to anger the ghost of Wayne Manor than help them.
He noticed little things, how he could tell when the ghost entered the room just by how the temperature would drop. The small sighs from empty corners, soft chuckles when Bruce put on comedic television, how close the ghost was just based on the temperature, he even began to notice the ghost was helpful at times. He once complained about losing his keys and 5 minutes later, it was on his side table.
He also noticed at night that he could hear sobs. Soft, contained, a fear of being heard but unable to stop. Times when he would enter a room and the temperature would rise as the ghost quickly moved somewhere else.
Bruce figured the cold room he discovered was the one the ghost favoured. That was the one he heard most of the sobs coming from.
The ghost was much more active during the night than they were during the day. But there were times in the late afternoon that Bruce would notice the change in temperature, the soft hums of something buzzing, and then the cold sitting right next to him.
He saw the ghost the one morning he didn’t hear any crying, opening the door to the spare room and peeking in.
There was a shape in the bed, familiar black hair peeking out from the edge of the blanket, a soft rise and fall of the mound as the stranger slept.
But ghosts didn’t breath.
They didn’t sleep.
He didn’t know a lot about magic.
But Bruce knew the dead didn’t sleep or breath.
So maybe they didn’t have a ghost.
Bruce stepped silently into the room, years of experience keeping his steps light and soft. He got closer to the bed, and eventually he got a clearer look at the stranger.
Black hair, like so many of his kids, pale skin, with strange freckles lining his cheeks that seemed to shin slightly green in the dim light. There were scars too. Lots of little ones on his cheeks, a few on his lips and eyebrows, all healed.
Bruce lightly sat on the bed next to the child, who luckily didn’t stir just yet. He gently reached out, placing a hand on his head and running it through his hair.
“Five more minutes, Jazz…”
Bruce froze, then slowly retracted his hand. He took his time standing up and leaving the room, carefully closing the door behind him to be sure not to wake the boy.
He turned around to see the Alfred watching him, a smile playing at his lips, “shall I get the papers, sir?”
Bruce nodded, “how long have you known?”
Alfred turned around to get the papers, “I was the one that let him in.”

Tips for new Tumblr users:
* Liking posts is a good way to bookmark them to find later
* Do not reblog anything between the hours of midnight and dawn or you might summon the Beast
* You can use your queue to post on a schedule even when you’re offline, which is very handy
* Every year on the anniversary of Dashcon staff will pick one user at random and kill them
* You can use simple HTML to put clickable links in your bio
* If you die on Tumblr, you die in real life
