Pro Hero Touya loathes Hawks.

It’s not that Hawks ever did anything wrong (that Touya and the public know of), it’s just that the No. 3 Hero is a heavy reminder that one can reach that high at Touya’s age, he just wasn’t good enough to do it himself. Hawks is so close to the top, has teamed up with Endeavor more than once and was able to keep up with him the entire time, his quirk is astonishing (and doesn’t actively hurt or try to kill him).

Plus, it doesn’t help that Touya has such an embarrassing, stupid crush on him that makes him wobbly in the legs and stuttering in the words. I mean, how dare Hawks be so successful AND make Touya babble senselessly like a fool whenever someone mentions him? That birdman is SO annoying!

I will go down with this ship and author.

When Hawks starts getting comfortable around people, he tends to go non-verbal.

The first time it happens, Dabi figures he's done something wrong.

He's so used to Hawks' constant chitter and chatter, about anything and at any time, even when they start just spending time together, the guy is constantly going on and on about something or another, as if he's terrified of the silence, if it were to ever occur.

That's why it's so surprising to him the day Hawks suddenly just... stops talking.

They're not doing anything special, just hanging around the PLF house, and up until that, they had just being chatting like usual.

At first, Dabi figures the bird finally ran out of things to say, but when he doesn't pick up the talking again after ten minutes, his curiosity is fully peaked.

So, he tries asking him something, and to his surprise, Hawks does answer, just, not in the way Dabi expected him to.

He chirps.

Or thrills, or something like that.

Dabi isn't an expert on bird sounds, okay?

But it's something like that.

And much to Dabi's surprise, he finds they can keep a conversation going pretty decently like that.

Just because Hawks isn't using his words, doesn't mean he can't make himself understood, at least not with Dabi.

It's not like Dabi likes the long, drawn out conversations anyway, and he's quite impressed at how Hawks can chirp in a certain tone, or flap his wings in a specific way, and Dabi immediately understands what he means.

As their relationship becomes more physical, so does the non-verbal conversations.

Quiet crooning into his neck in stead of soft words on a rainy morning, excited chirps and quick flaps of his wings when Dabi brings home yakitori from Hawks' favorite place in stead of hugs and thank you's, nudging their shoulders together while thrilling lowly and looking over at a member of the PLF that always keeps droning on and on in stead of chuckling.

It becomes something that feels like it's only theirs, and over time, Dabi realizes it's one of his favorite things about their relationship.

One amongst many.

THEM AND THIS HEADCANON AGHH SOMEONE SAVE ME ☹️

Most people assume that Hawks is the puppy-like one in his relationship with Dabi

After all, Hawks is the one who's always so charming, outgoing and cheerful when they're out in public, or even just around their friends

While Dabi is next to him, resting bitchface always present, heavy eyelids and steely gaze a clear sign he does not want to talk, silently glued to his boyfriend's side at all times

What they don't know, however, is how the couple acts behind closed doors, either by themselves or with their closest friends and family

That here, Hawks is no longer Hawks, but Keigo, and Keigo is actually quite introverted, and just because he enjoys being social now and then, doesn't change that he needs to charge in peace with his boyfriend

They also don't know that it's Dabi who's anxiously waiting by the door when Keigo comes home, ready to hug and kiss and tell him just how much he missed him, no matter if he was gone for hours or minutes

That Dabi is the one following Keigo around their apartment, constantly just being near him, touching him lightly, holding him closely, or placing himself in the others lap

How Dabi hates falling asleep at night because he don't want to stop looking at Keigo sleeping beside him, or how he wakes up every day to Keigo's golden eyes watching over him with a calm warmth he never shows outside the moments when it's just the two of them

No, most people have no idea who Dabi and Hawks are behind closed doors

And that's they way they'd like to keep it, if they were honest

I wholeheartedly believe in this. Funfact: I even tried writing a fanfic once about this only to drop it.

I'm of the opinion that Hawks and Dabi are an introvert and extrovert who are mistaken as an extrovert and introvert, respectively.

Hawks' entire hero persona relies on him being bubbly, friendly, always ready to talk to fans, pretty much the textbook definition of an extrovert, so I think it would make sense that his persona is a creation of the HPSC that isn't at all reflective of his real personality. I also believe he has very few friends, none of whom he ever completely relaxes around, because socializing for him is so tiring because he's only ever done it in the context of his hero persona and he doesn't know how to do it as himself. I imagine he's most comfortable when he can do stuff alone, hence why he leaves his sidekicks behind all the time. He can fulfill his need to be useful and maintain his public identity by utilizing his fastness to be alone.

Dabi is a theatre kid who's never done theatre that wasn't a crime, I think we know this by now, but specifically the kind of theatre kid that was quiet around "normal" kids and loud as shit with other theater kids. Like those theatre kids, he avoids being loud and extroverted when it could get him mocked (or, more accurately, get his plan found out before he can complete it), but when he's free of that worry he's the bane of everyone's existence simply because he's so outspoken and unembarrassed about everything he does.
