Wonder Woman
Yes. Wonder Woman fulfilled my expectations to a tee. I wanted a female led superhero movie where the lead can be beautiful yet also strong and Gal Gadot delivered. Thank you.
Humorous yet also touching, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
Let me get this straight though, it does not compare to The Dark Knight or Ironman or Captain America, but it is a heck of ton better than Superman, Guardians of the Galaxy and Dr Strange.
We finally got the female superhero movie we have been waiting for.
My criticisms include:
1. I could do without the classic DC final battle that is just a session to show off the explosive graphics in what looks to be a wasteland. DC could learn from Marvel and how they do a final fight scene as in The Avengers, I want to still see civilisation and how the fight interacts with the city/where ever they are. I don’t know why DC have to make their final fight so secluded?
2. Gal Gadot could have shed some tears in a couple of scenes. She’s a badass I get that, but she’s also seeing the worst part of humanity for the first time, shattering her illusions. Gal needs to channel Milla Jovovich in the Fifth Element for the look of devastation when WAR is shown on her screen.
However, overall a great film that I would happily watch again and show my future children in the hopes they are inspired to be a badass superhero.
I hope this starts a new age of female lead movies where they can kick ass but still be feminine.

Dr Strange more like Dr Whydidiwatchthis?
Wow Dr Strange is such a bad movie. Marvel tried too hard with the whole inception style filming, just made me yawn. Benedict Cumberbatch is not great, super boring and I hated his character. It takes a talented actor to be able to play an arrogant asshole but still likeable. Maybe he should have asked RDJ for some tips? BC managed the arrogant asshole bit, but missed the likeable part, which instantly disconnected me from his character. I didn’t care whether he lived or died.
I think I laughed once during the whole movie and I can’t even remember what part that was now.
At one stage I went to the bathroom, came back and asked my fellow cinephile what I missed. Her reply ‘Literally nothing.’
What a waste of 2 hours or however long the movie is. I expected better from Marvel.
My expectations were extremely low, but somehow I was still let down.

Hunger Games
So last night was the second time I have seen The Hunger Games and it was just as amazing as the first time.
While there are a few sections of acting I could be picky and whinge about, the rest was divine. They stayed true to the book, and maybe even enhanced it in some ways. It was everything I imagined and more. Although, I have to say, Peeta seems a lot more unsympathetic in the movie than the book. He comes across shady and untrustworthy, which is the total opposite of in the book. I'm not sure why or who this has happened but maybe because they never explain why he goes with the Careers, people seem betrayed.
Katniss comes across as less selfish as in the book, which is good because that was one of the things I hated about her. She seems strong and determined while also scared.
The portrayal of Caesar was an unexpectedly great. He brought life to sections that needed to be livened up. The way they explained trackerjacks and the boobie trap was brilliant. Cudos for the movie makers for that.
The movie had the right pace and the music set the tone beautifully. It didn't feel contrived or forced. I have to admit I pretty much cried throughout the whole movie the first time I saw it. I did a little better the second time but there are some scenes that hit me hard.
The relationship between Katniss and Prim were emotional and believable, Gale, not so much. I wasn't too sold on Gale's portrayal in the movie.
All in all, a brilliant film I know I will watch over and over. It is one of the best book to film adaptations I have seen in a long time, and I can't wait to see Catching Fire.

The Hunger Games
I feel it is appropriate that the first entry of this blog is for The Hunger Games. Although I may be setting the bar too high.
I'm going to see it tomorrow night, I've been waiting since what feels like forever. I admit, I was one of those people who jumped on the bandwagon way after it had gathered speed. However, I did read the books so I'm not one of those people who claim they're an ultimate fan yet haven't even touched the ink it's based on.
I read the book in about 1 or 2 days, I practically couldn't put it down. So I can only imagine how amazing the movie is. I like Jennifer Lawrence as a person, yet the jury is still out about her acting and whether she is the perfect Katniss.
I have high hopes for this movie, I'm practically dragging anyone I can to some with me to the screening. I watch the trailer on a daily basis and am not afraid to say I shed a tear or two whenever Katniss volunteers herself. I'm probably going to be a blubbering mess tomorrow.
I'll give my review after I've seen it. If I can still remember words.
