In 2013 I created a small assemblage series called "Her Words" inspired by my dear friend and brilliant poet Silvi Alcivar of the poetrystore.net
A deconstructed cuckoo clock was collaged completely on 3 sides in a composed "skin" of meticulously cut-out words from several books that I arranged into a deliberate poem  of my own titled: “Her Words Gave Home to My Heart” as transcribed below:
She had her mystery Typewriter knowing everything in-worded black sweat
Unplug sincere Wind from The glisten applied to your eyelids
One letter, one word Never solves itself.
Each letter luminous
a world dream
Poets pulled from its rollers praying & preying the in between in the passage sea, the light
Be reinforced against poetry’s fists.
Let me be with my pieces
Needle thru cloth
closures & openings turns each page
her body Splinters my brain into cluster of Words in knowing metaphor
way out yes,
death by layers sometimes the more lovely
Keep night company
They remain fragments.
Sewing jokes into One line at a Time u held in a poet until doubt letter formed a shark cartilage
Visions woke me up
slick slippery perfume & all of the hummingbirds Sing to her as she turns the pages.
a Poet I knew even what I didn’t
No judgment
she had a plan
sew pieces together
I Grieved & Raged
Open the book and it turns into wings. poetry
she stands in front of the splatters of text in space.
I thought I knew
Question my poem
asking questions leads to more Words
dark eyes Protect each key stuck in our distinct pain chains
poetry
Sectioned flesh looks back through blood mouths, so precise
motion through a monocle & those who grieve Night the canopy our poem
a hummable tune art rides on.
Song against dark. O mere words,
but sing the blues soft guitars
Pull long veils down majestic hallways
what’s unsaid you can barely speak Praises, sorrows, joys unknown
deeply The page is in pieces focused on each remaining moment
what’s to be said Fragments & whispers have big eyes for death
the ozone
Worm into words which too small & adhere to life
once-upon-a-time lemming typewriters Enter this white room it’s kaleidoscopic
& Everything beyond the margins of a bird which refuses to fly or speak Rimbaud
Each word the word hung from each word
trace it like a shooting star wingless and mulched roses.
How To the end spoke
The watch whose hands fall off high pitched sing Laughing against knowledge swallow song
My poem is bits & splinters
I plant it within Page after page of my book To see A coin deep in Writes thru time
Darkness allows me dark overcoat pocket
face to face by death’s mystery before they turn into cold awakening
everything was Poetry Ready for distraction in the dark Into dawn
Scattered like stars Now at the end of the line of all traits, straight
the letters assigned as words
what anything means or meant gets lost
Remainder and skeleton of my soul is restless.
I return from a past that never entered itself to the shining things in the end  no more
My blood mixes with plaster
A patchwork poem - My poem is pieces
Allow me these fragments on a page or in a museum in the end forever
Art’s desire to get it all said Reminds me of a poem from despair
Assembling words already caught haunt me.
I seek it in black poem more approachable Upside down looking for a home.
but vocabulary because of music that loops a mystery around love & imagination.
All are my poem
Art’s struggle to sing it all now dying unties that to naked open beings under a half-shell drenched in all her extravagant ways of forgiveness
loss by loss the great cosmic imaginary vein
Vision requires love’s attention but yet write the notes of poems and they can be anything Forever captured to sing afterwards
I saw it in my words, saw its wings move heart left over the desk I work on.
Who hears the poem sing, Snowfall
but it’s what’s not there within glass windows disconnected
push against the edge of romance spreading Letters, numbers, codes
Memory Arise, touch eyes open angel wing’s tongues over my head, over my bed with ink.
turn into blood, sing splinters from dreams.
poems are elusive. they know they can’t look back in and see the sea, a stranger beneath moonlight Alive with song and content with elephants.
words work best and lead to everything unsaid.
I'm an orphan - my skin darkens into night
I was a Poet free-falling where once fearful first seen in a phone booth there
Let me stay with you a while.
thin skins black with language to tame my rage arising.
Her haunted words to read triumphing Truth.
So much confession torn between enjoyable spirals then we vanish in photographs sensing Death and what do you say?
always something
she multiplies extraordinary & lights of the ordinary word to become swallowing stars.
Poetry you’ll see Nostalgia
The past that changes Brown eyed Hunger for love so hidden in this feast of dueting poetry
small detail gathering first thoughts on a thread of words in her eyes

Like pieces to a puzzle, I utilized a bag of donated textile scraps, a box of deconstructed hard bound book covers and reasonably flat connective objects to create a series of new collages set with in wood stained trays. These will be submitted for the "Cut to the Chase" Collage-a-Rama 2023 Exhibition coming to @arcgallerysf April 15th - May 6th, 2023. Last year I was very fortunate to have been contacted by at least a dozen art supportive, generous people who offered to either bring to me at my studio boxes and bags full of interesting items they had collected, or they invited me into their homes to sift through countless articles they thought I may be able to use in my art. Some were a result of “spring cleaning”, others were simply downsizing or making room for new stuff, and a few were mourning the loss of creative loved ones who had collected these item with artful intentions of their own. It is always a honor and great privilege to be bequeathed such treasures and entrusted to do right by the love and consideration it took for them to reach me. Using a bag of ratty textile scraps, a box of deconstructed hard bound book covers, and reasonably flat yet random connective bits, I puzzle pieced together a new series of collages set with in wood stained trays. These will be submitted for the "Cut to the Chase" Collage-a-Rama 2023 Exhibition coming to @arcgallerysf April 15th - May 6th, 2023. I was at a friend’s birthday gathering earlier this week and a couple arrived that was introduced to me. I gave my last name for distinction because another guest there shared a variation of my first name. Upon hearing it a woman of the couple said “oh, that’s interesting, George has an artwork by artist Dianne Hoffman”. I proclaimed “That’s me!” She soon after made a reference in conversation to her horse and that triggered a memory for me of them having come through my studio in 2021 and purchasing this piece (Guidance, 2020 assemblage) because she had mentioned her horse then too. And I rarely forget meeting a fellow horse lover. Anyways it was nice to sit down and get to know them better and learn that they were still very enamored with my work and in particular are pleased with their purchase. Perhaps next time I’ll have a chance to meet her horse 😉 (at San Francisco, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnIRDqFShd9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Today, what is being called a “Bomb Cyclone” is anticipated to hit the San Francisco Bay area so I’m taking refuge on this wet dreary day in my 3rd floor flat, staying home from my first floor art studio to burn a candle in summons of Mother Nature’s protection for all shelters and creative dwellings from flooding and loss from water damage. Sending love to my community while many are already coping with that very thing from the NYE storm. As much as I fully embrace big changes for 2023, I still kept up my annual tradition of spending New Year’s Day in my studio to begin a new project and set active intention for continued productive practice. I did however incorporate something new to start the day when I got out a yoga matt and followed along to a Yoga For Beginners video as best as my stiff muscles would allow me to this morning. Wishing everyone luck with their own resolutions ❤️🙏🥰👍😘🤞 (at Arc Studios & Gallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm5TNO3Lujv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Greetings my friends on this NYE! To set the tone of positive intentions for 2023 please allow my brief moment of reflection on the good things that manifested in 2022……. 42 one-of-a-kind new assemblage works came to fruition from my imagination and were created entirely from repurposed objects that I acquired from the generously offered donations of friends, fans and followers. I exhibited these and more in 11 exhibitions including a solo show in Sacramento dedicated to concepts of gratitude demonstrated by the study of crows. I hosted another successful assemblage making workshop in August and took part in SF Open Studios at Arc the first weekend of November. The "Lost & Found" fine art book I was fortunate to be featured in with 8 Northern California assemblage artists was published for purchase in the Fall followed by the Fateful Findings exhibition I was able to curate at Arc to celebrate it. The year concludes with my departure from my seven year role as administrative support with the nonprofit, ArtSpan. I hope each of you are genuinely eager to embrace a fresh start on New Year's Day as much as I am! I have plans in place to spend the first half of the year making my personal wellness a number one priority by recuperating, recalibrating, and restoring healthy mind, body and soul nourishing practices carefully balanced with art making studio time. Later in the year I will be taking on artist support projects like ghost writing artist statements, hosting two workshops and offering private mentoring. Stay tuned to learn more about how our paths may have opportunities to cross this next turn around the sun! #happynewyear #yearendreview #endofanera #newyearseve #thisartistslife #howIspent2022 #starttofinish #nye #reflection #settingintention #creativeconnection #gratitude #freshstart (at San Francisco, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm1luniLncx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The last time I travelled during the holidays to visit with my family was for Christmas 2015. My parents live in Prescott Arizona and one very cold and snowy day while I was there that year my sister, her daughter, my mother and I gathered around the kitchen table with a modest stack of magazines and catalogs to cut up for a day of collage making. This was the result of my efforts that day. While I'm not excited for the journey it takes to get there...I am looking forward to seeing and spending time with my family in AZ for the holiday again this year. Perhasp we will pick up glue and scissors again to make it a new tradition. A Winter's Dream, 2015 11" x 14" collage by @diannehoffmanart https://www.instagram.com/p/CmXPVlrSAFE/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Fateful Findings Exhibition came down at @arcgallerysf yesterday BUT....the Lost & Found fine art books are STILL AVAILABLE and can be purchased online to be sent to you anywhere in the world! Find the link in the Lost & Found book tab in my bio's Linktr.ee This is a gorgeous hardcover book with 207 pages that feature 8 exceptional assemblage artists of Northern California. I am super proud to be counted as one of them along with Hans Bruhner, Larry Fuete, Cat Kaufman, Monty Monty, Sean O'Donnell and Spencer Brewer + Esther Siegel of @harmonygaits (who are also the book's curators and publishers). Most of these artists are not active on Instagram so to experience their work you need to view it in person OR through the high resolution and beautifully printed pages of this publication. I personally have work featured on 20 pages! For those of you already in receipt of the book, I'd love to hear your feedback. Please share a review of your impressions. The group has been invited to show again in Carmel, CA this Spring and I'll be sharing more information about that in the new year. #assemblage #assemblageart #assemblageartists #assemblagebook #fineartbook #lostandfound #lostandfoundbook #artbook #foundobjectart #foundobjectartists #upcycledart #recycledmaterials #creativereuse #booksmakegreatgifts #assemblageartcollectors #assemblageenthusiasts (at Northern California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmVHX8wpmfy/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

In 2013 I will host TWO WORKSHOPS at my studio building @arcgallerysf —one in March and another in August. Dates and Details will be announced and registration made available through my January 1st newsletter that is sent out to everyone on my mailing list. Are you on my mailing list? You really should be. Check out the tab in my Linktr.ee (in my bio) and sign up. I send out just one email around the beginning of each month with info about new work, shows and opportunities to connect with me and my art. My workshops have gotten a lot of interest in the past couple years which is why I am offering two next year. I expect them both to sell out quickly since only 8 spots are offered for each date. I'd love to have you join us and learn my assemblage making "secrets". Reach out with any questions. I'll be posting a lot more about it in the new year! #assemblage #assemblageart #assemblageartist #assemblagestudio #artstudio #assemblageworkshop #artistwokshop #mixedmediaworkshop #upcycledart #foundobjectart #diannehoffmanart #artclass #livandlearn (at Arc Studios & Gallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmNBD0tyFMO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Excited that Sunday, December 11th Arc Studios and Gallery will be hosting our 2022 Holiday Gift Market from 12noon until 4pm at 1246 Folsom Street in San Francisco, CA. I've created 15 "gift-sized" assemblages from recycled found objects and affordably priced them in the $50-$200 range. To encourage a robust turnout, I am not offering pre-sales of these pieces. However, keep in mind that in previous years I've been fortunate to sell out of my holiday collection so I encourage you to arrive sooner than later. I am also keeping up my annual tradition of offering 25% off the rest of my available inventory during the four hour duration of this event so if you've had your eye on something, it's a good time to take advantage of this once-a-year sale! All the Arc artists will have our studio doors open with "gifty" items for sale and we have invited 9 talented guest artists that will be displaying their wares tabletop in the gallery areas so there will be a wide variety of handmade works for your shopping convenience. You are sure to find something for all the art lovers on your holiday list while supporting 23 local artists on two floors under one roof. And street parking is free on Sundays! Wishing everyone a lovely holiday season and hope to see you on the 11th at @arcgallerysf (at Arc Studios & Gallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl_pf5dpKQc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
