Daemon AU headcanons
(Uni has been kicking my ass, hopefully I’ll be back to posting and answering asks semi regularly, either way this is what it says on the tin. My headcanons about characters from different media and what their daemons would be)
Percy Jackson: His daemon is andromeda, she settles as a snowy albatross on his 16th birthday. The events of Tartarus and specifically meeting misery traumatically resettles her and she becomes a black mamba. The two of them end up going to therapy to deal with that after the events of Blood of Olympus. Andromeda is wise and somewhat detached, her moods are generally the opposite of whatever Percy is feeling at the moment, the two sorta synched up after resettling and neither of them are happy about it, they really valued each other’s differences.
Annabeth: Her daemon is a termite queen named Stella, they settled very early, probably only a few weeks after they ran away for the first time. I just really like the idea of subverting expectations(most people would probably give her an owl or snake daemon, while also still have a connection to architecture). Stella is brash, excitable, and oddly enough impatient. Annabeth keeps her in a small glass container that she has on her necklace.
Taylor Hebert: Her daemon is Amun, as a kid he generally took the form of owls, hence Taylor’s nickname, but started taking smaller forms until the locker in which he settled as a golden scarab. After the events of gold morning and the two of them blending together with QA he finally settled in the form he should have taken, a pharaoh eagle owl, albeit one whose wing feathers look more like those Horus is depicted with than his own species. That sort of distortion is common among daemons of people who’ve gone mad or had extremely bad mental health issues.
Hawkeye pierce(what can I say I’m a sucker for older shows): His daemon is a Russian blue cat named Elliona. She’s flighty, irritable but always down for a prank and is more than willing to harass frank burns at any given moment. She’s not especially helpful during surgery though. As the war drags on she starts going gray and chewing parts of her hair off in stress, mimicking Hawkeyes decline in mental health.
I might do a part to to this if people are interested and I actually have free time soon.

Scug Biology
just some thoughts on the scugs:
I'm on team scugs are slimy. My thoughts are basically that scugs actually do have a sort of bristly hair type structure but they produce a ton of slime that sorta goops up between the bristle and gives scugs are really unique texture. Basically my entire reasoning behind this is that scugs are descended from pipe cleaning purposed organisms so the bristles are a leftover from that and like help scugs fit through pipes.
When a pearl is inside of a scug -specifically a blank pearl- it records the scugs life/memories. This doesn't happen when a pearl already has recorded data in it.
Scugs can sort of retract their limbs in a similar way to how a snail can pull it's eye stalks into its body. They can do this with their arms, ears, and partially their legs. It helps them fit through pipes.
I think that if scugs have bones they'd be cartilaginous pseudobones. Basically they'd have much lighter and more flexible skeleton than lizards and scavs n such. Interestingly this means that there would likely be very few if any scug fossils after their extinction.
Scugs range a ton of natural colors, the purple of the spearmaster is theoretically within their natural color range but would still be pretty uncommon. And nightcat might just be melanistic.
Scugs and Scavs have similar intelligence, they're not related closely at all but the way I see them is kinda how I see humans and neanderthals. Like Scavs being the humans in this scenario and being physically weaker but living in bigger groups. I think the tribe of scugs at scug tree is a particularly big one. Scugs can basically be solitary or live in colonies and be fine but either way they tend to have smaller families.
Scugs really prefer humid environments but do to their dense slime coat they're actually surprisingly good at surviving in dry and cold climates.
Rivulet is a freak of nature(I'll give them their own post probably)

gazing in wonder at the wikipedia page for meander
Out of all the terminological categories in the English language, geological terminology is the most intensely poetic; who could fail to be moved by metamorphism and orogenesis? There is something awesome and mythic about it.
Anyway as I was reading this article I recalled a dim, possibly inaccurate memory of Chinese mythology where four dragons transformed themselves into the four rivers that flow through China.
I've been taking walks beside the creek. The creek has "an erosion problem" as it was once described to me. I notice on one bank the creek cuts underneath the roots of the trees and threatens to collapse the bank, and on another it deposits a low, broad beach of broken stones and mud.
The recent history of humankind would mislead us to think that erosion is a linear process of degradation, but the article for meander tells me that rivers move, the loops in their channels steadily rolling along the river's length, like the slithering of a snake over a time scale of thousands of years...

A little tired of people saying Moon can’t stand up for herself. Like yeah I think one of the flaws she has is she is too lenient and forgiving, but also in her situation it’s VERY HARD not to be. And it’s very situational, usually manifesting with Five Pebbles.
She stops talking to you if you annoy her enough, and only starts again if you win her back over. You have to put in the work. She isn’t “rolling over” and letting things happen to her, despite the fact that she is in absolutely no position to bargain. As stated by her, her kindness and her words are the ONLY thing she has. So her taking those away from you, the player, is absolutely her standing up for herself.
Everyone brings up how she handles Five Pebbles (esp the comms thing) and it is incredible to me just how many people lay this entirely at her feet when the game states over and over again that even despite Moon’s intentional feather-light influence over him, he still resents her for being his superior. He seeks out a mentor who is her opposite.
He wants to be something more than what he is, wants to be detached from her, and she can’t do anything about that but do the best she can to exert as little influence over him as possible.
She is stuck between a rock and a hard place here, and was betting on her kindness to have fostered enough mutual respect that she wouldn’t have to resort to forced communications. She was wrong. He was driven by fierce desperation, something that she wasn’t privy to. And she paid for it.
Yes, this is a flaw of hers. But it’s not a universal one. (the rest of the iterators look to her for help- she’s the group senior for gods sake- and people act like she can’t take a stand) I genuinely doubt Moon would’ve waited so long to used forced comms if it were happening to anyone else. If it were being committed by anyone else. And that just makes the tragedy even sweeter.

Star Stringed Web
My iterator OC! I finally made a design I like.
Star Stringed Web is an old gen 1 iterator. She’s not the first one ever, but she’s definitely not new— I’d say she was built a bit before Moon. Web served two purposes, finding the Triple Affirmative and also mass producing parts for other iterators. Her can takes up most of the space within her retaining wall, leaving little room for ground structures. There’s a larger than average amount of railways leading in/out of her superstructure to deliver parts to far off projects.
Web’s local group consists of two other iterators (not currently named or designed) that were built loooong after her. She appreciates their company, but also wishes the two of them would stop flooding her inbox with game invites and photos of every creature they see through their overseers.
Web is aware of the growing slugcat colony making their home on her grounds. She’s fine with them being there, as they don’t cause structural damage like the scavengers do, but would rather the colony keep out of her main systems.
Web somewhat tolerates the little beast crawling through her can. No matter what she does, Lightbulb won’t leave. She could zap them to death, but she considers that needlessly cruel. She counts herself lucky that she’d been build with the machinery necessary to craft more neuron flies, as the Little Prion seems to favor eating those.

Is anyone else haunted by the idea of a mass effect and hollow knight crossover? Like just the idea of a very very distant future for the world of Hallownest is them being among the stars. So anyway you’re gonna be forced to listen to my thoughts about it.
Two possibilities:
One:
The time of Hallownest(Hallowworld? Hallowholm?, idk man) arriving in the stars is during the rise of the prothean empire, and the two of them end up sharing a very very uneasy border. See I imagine the bugs would generally be a lot hardier to damage but would probably be behind technology wise. I imagine the war would escalated as both civilizations grow in power with the Protheans glassing planets and the bugs doing crazy shit like dumping a higher being on a Prothean world and letting them slowly(or very very quickly) subsume it, or like intentionally making world uninhabitable by dropping Wyrms onto them. Like without any of their natural predators or detergents Wyrms could completely devour the life of a planet kinda fast.
Why the reapers show up both civilizations begrudgingly band together to fight them, and like things go mostly like in cannon? But the bugs weather it way way better because the gods and higher beings can and do protect their people, but because of that the overall civilization of the bugs splintered into basically a bunch of nation states but on a planetary scale and while there’s still nominally a capitol in the form of Hallownest(run by little ghost or perhaps Hollow??) the bugs largely stayed isolated and eventually stopped spacefaring—with the reapers basically saying good enough—and that’s basically the state they’d be in when canon rolls around, with a lot of their larger scale infrastructure having fallen apart and a very stressed Hollow basically supergluing shit together and maybe having time to meet with human delegates.
Also I like to imagine that the earth was one of the worlds that got Wyrms dropped on it during a border skirmish, for whatever reason the particular Wyrms that got dropped didn’t do too much damage and basically just live in the Sahara desert, that said they’re completely genetically different from beings that evolved on earth so humans in this verse would be very unsurprised to find alien life given they’ve been living with some freeloaders on earth.
Two:
The other option is that the bugs come onto the scene a little bit before humans do, but as a race that isn’t dependent(at first) on mass effect technology. Instead they’d use dreamgates and other soul magics(especially giant soul batteries that basically work like a stargate) to move world to work without ships. This might sound great but it’d be much more intensive energy and resource wise so I imagine they’d start using ships eventually, though still way less than other species.
I think they’d end up being the species that the Rachni end up with, like a sort of political asylum thing, but that decision would put them on the shit list of the council, they definitely wouldn’t be getting a seat on the council at all.
I feel like they might end up stumbling across the first combat war between the humans and Turians and basically trying to mediate a peace accord of some sort.
Also Hollow would still be extremely stressed.
In both of these AUs here’s what I think Shepard would be like:
She’d most likely be a demigod of some sort, specifically I love the idea that she’s a half root, and like her wounds just get sealed up by this pale pink wood.
she’d absolutely have the lifespan of a root and probably be somewhere between a hum and root in height
she’d really look like a bunch of flesh colored roots grown into the shape of a human I think.
Her hair would be like, really fine needles or maybe really bushy leaves.
she’d probably fully ascend when the Normandy gets shot down, and like the planet ends up being fully overgrown by her when Cerberus comes looking for her.

Little Scholar.. If you truly wish to know the state of this world, if you seek with all of your being to Know the folly of those who came before, well...
Go west of this place, west until the rains end and the sun scours all life from the ground, west until you can go no further and the seas boil into salt. In that place seek enlightenment, attune yourself to the world. If you can do this there's a chance, a terribly terribly small chance, that you may able to here the last echoes of the god who died there...
And Little Scholar? if you do make it, if by some luck beyond my imagining you truly find them there... tell them Drinks a River sends her regards
part of a recorded conversation between the second gen Iterator Drinks a River and the slugcat titled Hierophant.

Quick question yall, hypothetically if an iterator could ascend, did so, and then got stuck as an echo what would they look like? Would their entire structure end up as an echo? It’s certainly food for thought.
