Steve is staring at Nancy all doe-eyed, completely oblivious to the fact that just a few tables away Billy is staring at him the same way.
Steve is oblivious to the fact, much like Nancy is to him.
He doesn’t even realize he’s staring, or at least doing so blatantly, till Max elbows him in the ribs and tells him just how pathetic he’s being. “He’ll never see you the way you see him,” she said, stretching her arms the length of the blanket she was holding and then folding it in half. “There’s no happy ending here, this isn't a fairy tale, and if you keep on like this you’re only gonna end up getting hurt.”
Ouch. It was the truth, something he knew all too well, something he’d tried so fruitlessly to ignore in favor of staring at the boy just a few tables away from him. He knew deep down he’d never have him, but he couldn’t help the way his heart would beat emphatically in his chest, skipping a beat, just at the sight of Steve Harrington. The boy was an Adonis, and Billy was weak to his charms.
Heaving a heavy sigh, Billy cast his gaze down to the pile of clothes he’d been folding. His heart ached in his chest, stuttering and breaking as the realization that he’d never be able to call Steve his settled in the pit of his stomach. He took in a deep shuddering breath, chancing a glance back in the direction of where Steve was standing, sorting through boxes of clothes, his gaze still fixed longingly on Nancy.
Billy dropped the shirt he was folding with a little more force than was strictly necessary. “Fuck this shit.”
He hurries toward the exit, unshed tears weighing hot and heavy behind his eyes. The dam was just moments from breaking and he was still a little ways from the door when he could hear the sound of his name being called. He almost stilled, wanted to stop and see what Steve wanted, why he’d broken out of his reverie long enough to notice that Billy was leaving.
But Billy didn’t. He kept going, charged through the double doors that led to the parking lot just outside the gymnasium, and practically ran to his car. But he didn’t start it. For some reason, he just couldn't bring himself to put the keys in the ignition and start it. He breaks down in the parking lot. It earns him a few stares but nothing more than that.
By the end of it his face is red and splotchy, he feels tired, a wave of exhaustion washing over him. He knows he’s being pathetic, knows he looks just as much the part as well, but he can’t bring himself to care. He bets Steve is still staring at Nancy, like she’s something of a marvel, something to be cherished.
The thought brings a sour taste to Billy’s mouth.
No matter how much it hurt though, he knew that when all was said and done he'd lay down his life just for a chance to have Steve stare at him the way he did Nancy.

Eddie and Chrissy hanging out at Lover's Lake after one of his shows at The Hideout, drinking little shots of vodka and laying on the shoreline together looking up at the stars:
"Do you have any like, weird talents?" Eddie asks, turning over to look at her and grinning, his veins buzzing pleasantly from the booze.
"Umm," Chrissy purses her lips thoughtfully. "I can do a pretty good impression of a movie character?"
"Oh yeah? Which one?"
She turns over onto her elbow and hooks her finger, hovering it near his nose. "E.T., phone home," she utters in a perfect, gravelly impression of the extraterrestrial.
Eddie's resulting scream startles a huge flock of birds into the sky as he scrambles away from her. "What in the ever-loving HELL, Chrissy???"
She's still dying of laughter as he struggles to explain how deeply that movie terrified him when it came out several years ago, and how she must never do this again.
(She definitely does it again later that night - in bed. "CHRISSY, I AM LITERALLY INSIDE YOU RIGHT NOW." 😭)

It's all bright lights and fireworks before the darkness.
It's screaming until his throat gives out and his lungs ache. It's coming face-to-face with evil and flipping it off. It's thinking about his mom and his dad; about Heather and the others; about Max. It's that once-in-a-lifetime moment - the defining moment. The only moment that counts.
And then it's white-hot, searing pain, followed by numbness. It's total darkness, like somebody's switched off the stars in the night sky. It's black and it's dizzying, and it's falling down, down, down until his back hits the ground.
It's Heaven, or it might be Hell.
Billy can't keep his eyes open. He doesn't fight it; simply lets the wave roll in and drag him out, bring him under. It might be Heaven, or it might be Hell. It's fifty-fifty, or twenty-eighty. It's probably Hell, and Billy's resigned to it. He'll do his time. He deserves it.
There's a crash and it smells like smoke and it's all just black, and Billy's eyes are closed but there are hands on him. Max's voice, telling him hold on. Telling him please.
Another voice, getting closer. "We need to get out of here."
"I can't leave him," Max sobs, and if Billy had any fight left, he'd shake her and tell her to go. Get the hell out. Leave it. Leave me.
"Let me see."
More hands on him. Fingers pressing his wrists and the side of his neck. Hair tickling his face.
"He's alive." The voice says. "Max. He's alive."
"We can't leave him," Max urges, voice breaking.
"We're not going to."
"He's alive?" Max asks, and - she sobs. Her throat finally gives and she sobs. Squeezes Billy's hand. "Is he?"
Am I?
Billy doesn't know who the other voice belongs to, but he wants to ask it the same question. Am I alive? Are you sure? How do you know?
"He's breathing, Max."

Who do you think says i love you first Steve or Billy??
aah man
steve would be gun shy after nancy, but he’s so earnest when he’s in Love he wouldn’t want to hold back when he can say it and get in some good smooches.
billy would either be so emotionally constipated and terrified it would take a life or death scenario to get it out of him or years into the relationship where he’d try it out when steve was asleep OR billy would be so pissed off and so in love he’d bite it out at steve out of nowhere, motherfucker, i love you.
when steve says it to billy for the first time, billy cries.
when billy says it to steve for the first time, steve wrestles him to the ground and kisses him until one of them loses a tooth.

"there's more to life than stupid boys" but it's Max and Billy sitting on Billy's bed facing away from each other as Max does the courtesy of not acknowledging that Billy's crying, cause he and Steve got into some small, petty argument that he now thinks has ruined their relationship forever, Max quietly plotting murder in her head
