I think that, in a way, symbols like Barbie are important to be able to reflect back the enoughness of just being a girl, being a woman, being a person. And I think that's what I wanted to sort of explore in this movie, because Barbie's for so long been a symbol of the thing you could never be.
Listen, I donât know if you remember that I fought that speech so hard. Thatâs another really interesting thing about life â some things that I was so against, and I was like, âWhy would I beg a man? I canât beg a man on TV! This is so embarrassing.â And then it turns out to be, like, one of the most successful scenes, or the most famous scenes ever.
