📢 Our 2021 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health makes it clear how much LGBTQ youth need our support. 42% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, including more than half of trans and nonbinary youth. But LGBTQ youth who had access to spaces that affirmed their sexual orientation and gender identity reported lower rates of attempting suicide. 📢

This... this is too relatable. Huh, I'm happy that I'm not out to her
If you have emotionally abusive family members:
It is not your fault.
It is not your fault.
It is not your fault.
Earlier today, my mother had a long "conversation" with me in which she made me feel guilty for many things, including my sexual orientation and gender-identity, the fact that I hid these things from her, the fact that I went to the school counselor for support about this, and the fact that I talked to my trusted friends and my older brother about this. She's very homophobic and transphobic, and since being outed to her I've had to pretend that I've "become" straight. She threatened to not pay for college if I continued being queer (and then denied this when I brought it up with my counselor) and has repeatedly prayed for me to be put "on the right path".
After we talked, I felt bad that I had hidden things from her, and that I was still hiding things (like this tumblr). But then I realized that it is not my fault, that if she wanted me to be open she should have loved me for who I was, not the daughter she thought she had. If she wanted me to talk to her instead of my brother, my counselor, and my friends, then she shouldn't have belittled me and threatened to abandon me. I spent years making excuses for her behavior, telling my friends who thought she was abusive that they were wrong, believing her every time she put the blame on me even though I was a kid.
I'm done letting her make me feel guilty. It is her fault that I'm afraid of her. It is her fault that I had to hide who I am. It is her fault that I have an escape plan. It is not my fault. It is not my fault. It is not my fault.

Me: No, I am not depressed I just have chronic exhaustion.
Me: Yes, I am aware you are my therapist. I am the one who came here.
Me: Did you read that on the files? The other lady that wrote it was nice but clearly delusional. She was my previous therapist, she sent me here!
Me: What? No, I would know if I were in denial. Thats how it works, isn't it?

For those who followed me, you may have noticed the meme I posted on this reblog. Well, I decided to continue it based on the situation Palestine is going through due to Israel's terrorist acts.

Being apolitical means being complicit.
IF YOU ARE NEUTRAL IN SITUATIONS OF INJUSTICE, YOU HAVE CHOSEN THE SIDE OF THE OPPRESSOR.

Why should Americans care about Palestine?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh and Bid-n just signed off $735 million weapons sale to Isr***l.
735 million. Imagine what the government could be doing to better your lives with all this money , instead it's funding murder of innocent civilians.
This post isn't to make anyone pick a side. Just highlighting where the government's priorities lie.
Source to the OG post if anyone's interested

What should you be reading to maximize your language learning?
Tumblr media
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of literature we can learn from. Baby books bore you, but you’re not ready for any type of novel, so what’s left?
Here are some tips
For beginner/A1/A2 learners
Watch a YouTube video in your target language, then read the comments
you’ll already have vocabulary from watching the video, most of the comments will probably use that vocab
it’s a short enough text that you won’t get fatigued
the only downside is that sometimes people utilize abbreviations and slang terms, but even these are good to know
Read news headlines and if you find one you understand almost fully, try to read the full article
sometimes the vocabulary used is not common in everyday usage, but it’s a total win for an A1 learner to fully read and mostly understand any text
while vocab is not used everyday, it will give you the ammunition to talk about that particular topic
Watch Netflix in target language with subtitles in the same language
believe it or not, you will learn to read better, especially because you don’t have to understand written description of visuals (usually uses very niche vocab) or emotion
and now you can slow down or speed up
I watched DARK in German before I felt like I could read a book, and I understood 85% of it. This is because I looked up some vocabulary in the first episodes and they continued to use it throughout the show so it really cemented in my head to the point where I don’t even think about it. Now, I had to rewatch some conversations the characters had, but that’s much better for understanding than switching it to English or looking up full phrases and sentences.
For intermediate/B1/B2 learners
read fanfiction
it’s ALWAYS good to read about something you’re interested in so if you like any major movies, books, television, this is the perfect option for you
most people use relatively basic language and you can choose the length
find a comic book or graphic novel
like watching tv, that visual aid really helps with understanding of the plot without all those tricky descriptions
read a book in your target language that you’ve read and loved in your native language
this is by far my favorite way
you don’t have to worry about trying to understanding the bigger picture because you already know what’s happening/what will happen, you really have to discover the meaning of each sentence and then you begin to picture the scene using only your target language
Check out my other post for methods of how to get the most out of reading !

Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor - “How We Get Free: Black Feminism and the Combahee River Collective”
Zoe Samudzi & William C Anderson - “As Black As Resistance: Finding the Conditions for Liberation”
this is a curated list of texts that i find the most helpful for illustrating why we all should also be abolitionists. the bolded are the ones i’ve found the most helpful thus far. & reminder to buy the books when you can, preferably from independent / leftist / black-owned bookstores… and see what you can find at your local library! keep these works in circulation!

You're allowed to romanticize life. Every little stir of your coffee, every sip of your tea. The sounds of leaves and snow crunching under your shoes, and the way your breath curls through the air when it's cold. Life is beautiful, never forget.

Say it as many times as you need
It’s going to be ok, everything is temporary. It’s going to be ok, everything is temporary. It’s going to be ok, everything is temporary. It’s going to be ok, everything is temporary. It’s going to be ok, everything is temporary. It’s going to be ok, everything is temporary. It’s going to be ok, everything is temporary. It’s going to be ok, everything is temporary. It’s going to be ok, everything is temporary.
Remember to:
Take deep breaths, and count them. Make in and out equal
Repeat until you feel more relaxed
Take a shower and make it as long or fast as you need. You need to take care of yourself
Take your meds if you have any
Get out of those PJs!! You’ve been in them for so long today!! Don’t you want to feel fresh and clean?!
Brush your hair
Change whatever you can in the house. Out with the old, in with the new! Start fresh!
If you can, eat something. You need nutrition in that body of yours!!
Get outside today and run or walk, even if it isn’t for long. You need to exercise every once in a while
Do that thing you’ve been holding off on for forever now. It’ll be so much nicer to know it’s done and over with. Remember to reward yourself afterword. That is extremely important
Remind yourself your feelings are valid no matter what people tell you
If you’re having a bad day:
Take the day off. It’ll be hard, but sometimes you just have to
Snuggle up under a favorite blanket
Listen to a favorite song
Watch a favorite movie/TV show
Drink some hot tea
Try meditation
Don’t be afraid of spending the day alone or with others, whichever you prefer! There’s no shame in it!

something that my therapist taught me that really helped me have more self compassion was the concept of an inner child (please note this is not the same as having different personality states)
when I'm having a hard time with my mental health I often have a lot of negative self talk and struggle to look after myself but when I imagine telling a young version of myself the things I tell myself now, I can't.
beating myself up about a mistake? it's alright, we make mistakes and we can learn from this.
struggling to get out of bed? just try for 10 minutes, watch YouTube or listen to music and if you can't stay up we can go back to bed for a bit and try again later
need to do eat something but can't find motivation? I wouldn't let them go hungry so I'll grab a snack while I make something
need to do chores but feel like I can't? let myself dance to taylor swift and do as much as I can, maybe offer a reward afterwards.
I've found it's so much harder to be hard on myself when I imagine I'm saying those things to younger me. in an ideal world I would be kind to current myself but if I can't? I'll be kind to the six year old version of me who deserves to be looked after and cherished and told they're important. when I can't bring myself to do something for me I'll do it for them.
