I rly hate the Satanic Panic & the moral panic surrounding violence in video games in the 90s, coz it's now impossible to talk about the social implications of violent video games in a realistic sense.

No, violence in video games does not create serial killers in the way most people imagine it would.

However, it's very important to notice how after 9/11, a lot of violent video games pivoted their content from silly gratuitous cartoon gore to more realistic military shooters set in the Levant from a US American lens. It's also important to notice the connection of these games & their toxic online multi-player voice chats to Gamer Gate in 2014.

It's obviously not as black & white as it was presented in the 80s & 90s, I dont think everyone who played early Call of Duty games is a white supremacist who wants to join the military to kill people in the middle east, but I think it's dangerous to pretend like video games or any media can't have an impact on the way people think about violence.

I think what makes all the difference here is how that violence is portrayed, what the message behind it is, what the motives are behind the people who crafted that message, who the victims of that violence are, how they are portrayed & the greater cultural context that surrounds it.

Everyone knows how much I love Dogmeat, and stories of a lone woman and her favorite dog wandering the wasteland are well known across the Commonwealth. So when — last week, while I was out in Bradberton — a strange woman and her dog appeared at the Dugout Inn in Diamond City, everyone naturally thought of me. Vadim described her face as soft and almost cherubic, and curiously free of scars and marks. Ellie told me her hair was pink, “like something out of a fairy tale”, but spoiled with mange. She’d arrived in power armor — a variant not even Arturo recognized, studded with the same Tesla coils I saw on that customized T-60 in the hangar in Fort Hagen. She bristled with weapons: slung on her back was an engraved antique level-action rifle, on her hip was a 10mm pistol, and across her chest was a bandolier of grenades made from Nuka-Cola. For dinner, she changed into a matching pre-War sundress and bonnet — she looked elegant, according to Miss Edna, refusing to drink anything but Purified Water straight from the can. Her lovely companion was an Australian cattle dog, which Dr. Sun noticed exhibited heterochromia — one blue eye and one brown one, something I saw from time to time at the office before the War. Despite all the attention she commanded, however, she was quiet and spoke little. When she did speak, it was to ask about me: a “fellow survivor of Vault-Tec’s disturbing housing practices” and someone else “always on the radio”. She stayed two nights, and was gone.

Writing prompts about vampires

"Are you a haemophiliac?" the villain suddenly asked.

The hero turned to them with a look of surprise. "Yeah, I...how did you know?"

The villain's fangs were practically throbbing. Everything in them was screaming to bite, bite, bite - to take the hero's throat between their teeth and drink.

But instead they held themself back. Smiled sly and slow.

"Because I'm a vampire. How else?" they said.

The hero rolled their eyes. "Yeah, right. The only thing you suck out of anything is fun."

The other would never know how much the villain wished that was true...
