In devastating news today, 26 Oct 2020, VicRoads has destroyed 300 years of living cultural heritage.
The Directions Tree (pictured above) was felled today at around 1.30 pm Australian Eastern Standard time.
This tree was over 300 years old. It was a place where the Djabwarrung people could go to seek spiritual guidance and to feel connected to their ancestors.
And it was cut down today, to make way for a road that has multiple other viable routes.
This has been an ongoing battle since 2018. There have been protectors on site since June 2018, and multiple attempts over the years by VicRoads to bully or intimidate protestors off the land, including getting the police to show up in drives to arrest protectors. Police have also spent the last two years specifically targeting known protectors, going so far as to jailing one (indigenous) man for six months because he had an expired drivers licence. When that one finally made it to a judge, the judge was disgusted and and threw the whole case out, cause who the hell imprisons someone for six months for having an expired licence?? Cops with a vendetta, thats who.
There have been multiple legal challenges from multiple directions over the route of this road, and the fact that the planned route requires the destruction of three indigenous heritage sites. There is an open court case at the moment, set for December, and by moving ahead with works and destroying one of the sites, VicRoads is in direct contravention of a court order.
Not only did they cut it down, they also then loaded the tree onto a truck and drove it up and down the stretch of road past one of the other sites where the protectors are camped. They know full well how devastating this destruction is, and they drove thw felled tree back and forth in front of the people who've spent three years protecting this tree, deliberately taunting them.
The destruction of the Directions Tree is an abominable crime. And its one that they want to commit again. Theres a Grandfather tree -- over 700 years old -- that is next in their firing line.
If youre in Australia, please call or email Dan Andrews (Victorian premier), Sussan Ley (Federal Environment Minister) or your local MP and protest the destruction of the Directions Tree, and ask them to protect the Grandfather Tree.
If youre international, please email them. Feel free to call, too, but international rates are pricey, and them getting flooded by international emails will be really, really helpful and will show them that the world's eyes are on them.

Katerina Morningstar’s Deity Guide: Hecate

Here we are with entry two in this series! This is my interpretation of Hecate in all her Dark Moon glory.
Representation:
Inner strength
Embracing your true self
Embracing darkness (this does not mean evil)
Protects mothers, especially new mothers afraid of what the world will hold for them and their offspring
All phases of the moon, however she favours the New Moon or Dark Moon when magick is most potent
Protects all who ask her for it
Mother goddess, offers support and warmth with ferocity and strength to all those who ask for her help
Blesses the courageous and the brave who cannot see the light at the end of their tunnel but keep fighting
Protects those who have been abused and releases her wrath on the abusers
VERY protective of her witchy beans
Soothes the grief stricken
Provides invisibility to those who are too overwhelmed with life (as the clouds make the sun disappear, she will shield you from the bad juju)
Aids in sex magick to add intense passion and heat
Aids in protection from psychic or empathetic vampires
Helps you to indulge in your deepest desires
Type: Hellenic Goddess of the Dark Moon, Triple Goddess
Light: Navy, wine, plum, dark grey, and matte black - Hecate’s light fluctuates, as I feel all of these coming from her. Her light is very deep and warm and accepting.
Wings: None that I can perceive.
Good or Evil: Neutral. While Hecate has a very potent and noticeable essence, I don’t get ‘good or evil’ vibes from her. She will aid you in any spell you choose and won’t punish you for it. She wants you to indulge in positive spells and curses alike, as long as the cause is justified.

Dark sweet drinks (for those who cannot drink alcohol)

Aphrodite altar ideas
1. Pick a place for the altar. This can be a shelf in a closet if you want it to be discreet, a bathroom counter, or my personal favourite it setting it up on a vanity if you have one.
2. Stick to an Aphrodite colour scheme. Think pinks, reds, sea foam blue, and gold. I use a pink scarf from the dollar store as an altar cloth.
3. Have something in the middle to represent Aphrodite. This doesn’t need to be an expensive statue. Some ideas include
- An old barbie
- a picture of Aphrodite you printed off from the internet
- any photo of a woman you find beautiful
- a figure you made yourself
4. Have an offering bowl or dish of some sort in front of your Aphrodite representation. The thrift store is a perfect place to get this. I found an iridescent seashell dish for $2.
5. Decorate! This part is the most fun. Stick to things that represent Aphrodite. This may include:
- a vase of roses (fake ones are honestly best since they don’t die)
- alternatively you can get some potpourri with dried roses
- make up and jewelry, especially pearls
- anything with hearts (check out the dollar store around valentines day)
- seashells or anything ocean related
- Doves, swans, rabbits, bees, and dolphins are all favoured my Aphrodite (avoid pigs, she hates them)
- Fairy lights or pink Christmas lights
- Get a few small pieces of rose quartz if you can
- Really anything beautiful (think flowers of any kind, snow globes, antique music or jewelry boxes)
- You can also create a collage of beautiful pictures on the wall behind the altar
6. Maintain your altar. Try not to be disrespectful by letting it get too messy. Keep it looking nice and every once in while take the altar cloth off, wash it, and spray the surface down with some rose water if possible.
